Assault and Armed Serious Robbery Investigation Concluded Suspects Charged

On July 15, 2008, Ocean City Police responded to a room at the Dunes Motel, located at 2700 Baltimore Avenue, in reference to an armed robbery and serious assault.

When police arrived at the scene, they found an adult male victim with several severe injuries. The victim related to the responding officers, an unusual set of events leading up to the victim being assaulted and robbed.

The victim initially told police, earlier in the evening he had met several subjects on the Boardwalk and agreed to meet them later at his room at the Dunes Motel. Sometime later that evening, the victim stated he received a telephone call from one of these persons asking him to exit his hotel room and to meet them in the motel parking lot.

The victim stated he went down to the motel parking lot and met one of the men. The two men went up to the motel room. Once in the motel room, two additional men arrived. At this point the victim told police he was attacked, bound and gagged.

The victim said the three men demanded money and began to search and ransack the motel room for money and valuables. While the suspects were going through the victim’s room, they beat him during which the suspects broke a glass beer bottle on the victims head. During the attack the victim related the suspects discussed killing him.

After the suspects left the motel room, the victim was able to free himself and contact the police.

OCPD investigators arrived on the scene and began to focus on the victim’s account of the events leading up to and during the robbery. Detectives eventually determined the victim had met the three male suspects earlier in the evening in the downtown Ocean City area. The victim related he had attempted to negotiate an illegal drug transaction with suspects.

The victim said he believed the males were meeting him at the motel for the purposes of selling him illegal drugs. The consequences of this arrangement left the victim severely beaten and injured.

Gas Prices

While gas loomed around $3.49 per gallon yesterday, Sams Club has regular gas today at the price of $3.38 per gallon, 11 cents less than yesterdays retail prices. I'm told the lines were 3 deep at the pumps waiting to fill up at this price. Photos to come.

More Love On The Plaza

This trash has been sitting outside on the Plaza the entire day and I first walked past it at 7:30 AM Thursday morning. Keep spreading the love Barrie!

Daily Accident Report

"Joe,

Once I get in every morning I try to spend at least 5 minutes to get the morning news, I usually hit WBOC and THE DAILY CRIMES, via the internet. I have recently found your site to be quite amusing and love to get the real inside reports. I just wanted to make a quick comment "editorial" on the fact that every day this week I have had to read about the lose of a live due to poor driving. it's a shame that a family had to loose a member of it's family due to someone else's poor judgement and lack of driving common sense. I just wanted to say to everyone please remember that your bad judgement could effect another family FOREVER! PLEASE hang up and drive, SLOW DOWN, BE PATIENT, and most of all LOOK TWICE! I do not want to look at the news and see my wife's SUV crumpled up on the front page! And neither do you!"

Dear Zoo Staff

While WMDT's Stacy Sakai did a fantastic job on stories referencing Dr. Doug Nolte, ONE MAJOR QUESTION was left out of Stacy's story after she attended the Zoo Commission Meeting last Wednesday.

Stacy should have asked this simple question AFTER the Zoo announced they stand behind Dr. Nolte. Here's the question. "HOW MANY OF YOU TAKE YOUR PERSONAL ANIMALS TO DR. NOLTE?" Ask Anne what happened to her Golden Retriever or her dog named Goldie when it was hit by a car years ago. Ask Anne why she went in the next day to see how her dog was doing and found NOTHING had been done so she picked it up and carried it out of his Office immediately and took it to another Veterinarian as it almost bled to death in Nolte's care.

If that question is asked I think you'll find no one at the Zoo would be stupid enough to use his services, yet they, (like Rapp) support him 100%? And why would they support him 100%? Because there is NO OTHER VETERINARIAN on the Eastern Shore that has ever dealt with exotic animals and has the experience the former Veterinarian Dr. Tragle has. As the Director of Public Works stated, Nolte is cheap and that's why they use him. They have NO CHOICE!

The majority of the Zoo Staff used Dr. Tragle when he worked at the Zoo and probably still do. Again, those poor animals at the Zoo!

Dead Man Walking

Farmers Being Irresponsible

This is the time of year in which we all see these irrigation systems shooting large volumes of water onto their fields in order to help their plants grow and survive.

However, there's no denying that pretty much every one of these systems that comes close to a road sprays a ton of water onto the road and in some cases it becomes extremely dangerous.

Last week, two motorcyclists were actually thrown from their motorcycles after being hit by this large volume of water. Some even complain they just had their vehicle detailed, spent all that money and while driving home they got sprayed down by these systems.

I personally believe these Farmers should be regulated by assuring NONE of their irrigation system hits any roads their farms butt up to. This series of photos is actually Rt. 54 in the Delmar/Mardella area. That's right, that large volume of water is on a State Highway!

Will The Rolls Reverse This Saturday?

Be prepared for the Formal Grand Opening this weekend at the new Fire Station for Chief See to announce his retirement. From the word I'm getting on the street, See is absolutely miserable, cranky and treating everyone like crap right now.

There are many rumors as to his having been beat up last week and coming into work with two black eyes and cuts all over his face. I'll not get into what rumors are being said as to how this all happened other than to say See says he slipped and fell. Uh Huh, right. I'm told he told two or three versions of the falling story, therefore no one is buying that one.

Anyhow, there could be a roll reversal in the very near future as many are saying Gordy will be made the new Fire Chief and See is out of there. Delaware Cops won't cover your a$$ like the local Salisbury Cops, will they Chiefy? I'll get into that little plug on another day.

If it makes you feel any better, even though this Grand Opening is allegedly by invitation only, I'm not going to attend. I have better things to do and I think people are sick and tired of seeing that $10,000,000.00 Building and what a waste of taxpayer money it was.

ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST.

Salisbury, Russia

So you tell me Folks. If YOU owned a building in Downtown Salisbury, Russia, and they installed a surveillance camera on the building right next door to you, knowing you have no choice but to park in the parking lot next door, wouldn't you be suspicious as to why the Police Department is placing a camera there?

Let's see, there's NO CRIME there. Certainly not like Church Street and other high crime areas. I've never had a vehicle broken into there. Yet I step out of my building and take a walk around Downtown and the next thing I know the Chief of Police all of a sudden pops out of nowhere and gives that silly childish smile like he's got one up on me.

Well, maybe he does. However, isn't this harassment? Don't they have to justify these camera going into high crime areas. Isn't it interesting how they're set up at one end of the Plaza at One Plaza East so he can see everyone walking on the Plaza, yet rather than sticking another one at the other end of the Plaza he sticks one where he can see me instead? Talk about Big Brother! Or shall I say. Mr. Paranoid?

Is this abuse of Grant Funding for these cameras? I know that Crime Solvers requires these cameras only in areas where there's a high gun crime. Take the one down near my building Chief before I sue the City for Harassment. One Officer tried to claim they used this camera to try and catch the graffiti guys but guess what, the graffiti still went up and no one was caught anyway. I say, stop your BS excuses and take the camera down and use it where crime is actually high.

Elmo’s Green Thumb Goes On Sale Monday, August 25

The Red Monster with a Green Thumb Arrives in Salisbury on October 7

(Salisbury, MD) Sunny isn’t just the weather forecast on Sesame Street - it’s also the name of Elmo’s sunflower friend! Join all your favorite friends on an amazing adventure as they help Elmo find a new home for Sunny when Sesame Street Live “Elmo’s Green Thumb” performs at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center on Tuesday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 8.

Tickets for all three performances go on sale Monday, August 25 at 10:00am. Ticket prices range from $13 to $25 plus applicable taxes and fees. Military and group discounts are available. Tickets can be purchased online at www.WicomicoCivicCenter.org, charged by phone at 410-548-4911 or in person at the Box Office open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Elmo has raised his sunflower, Sunny, from a seed, but his floral friend has outgrown the flower pot. Elmo and friends find Big Bird’s garden the ideal place for Sunny to flourish and grow but they are too excited to wait. Rather than let Sunny follow nature’s course, Abby Cadabby, Sesame Street’s fairy-in-training, casts a spell to make Sunny grow. The spell does just the opposite and, instead of growing, Elmo and all of his friends shrink! While Abby searches for just the right words to reverse the spell, Elmo, Zoe,Telly and friends explore Big Bird’s garden from a smaller perspective and learn some big lessons about patience, overcoming their fears and appreciating the role that each creature plays in our ecosystem – from dancing ladybugs and beautiful butterflies to grouchy beetles that scavenge the garden floor. Will being small help Sunny grow tall? It’s a fresh, original Sesame Street Live on a whole new scale!

Like television’s Sesame Street, each Sesame Street Live production features timeless lessons for all ages. The universal appeal of each Broadway-quality musical production continues long after preschool. Adults will appreciate the high-tech stagecraft, cleverly written script, and music they’ll recognize and enjoy sharing with children, such as “Ladybug Picnic,” “Inch by Inch” and “I Love Trash.”

Will the Wicomico County Council Defend the Taxpayers?

November, 2010 is the earliest practical date for a referendum on the Wicomico dispensary. Assuming that the dispensary is abolished, it will be at least until 2011 or 2012 before this corrupt dinosaur breathes its last. In the meantime, the taxpayers of Wicomico County are being denied what is due them from the WCLCB.

Can something be done about a group of non-elected officials spending taxpayer money like a bunch of drunken sailors on liberty? Absolutely! It all depends on whether or not the Wicomico County Council has the intestinal fortitude.

Will a majority of the county council continue to allow the pockets of the taxpayer to be picked? Will this council continue to support corruption through their inaction? or ... Will at least four of our elected officials stand up and say, "NO MORE"? Read More ...
