Bennett Class Of 1992 Reunion
James M. Bennett High School Class of 1992 will hold its 20 year class reunion on Saturday, July 14. Three events are planned - a tour of the new JMB at 10 a.m., a picnic at Leonards Mill Park at noon and the main event at Black Diamond Lodge in Fruitland at 7 p.m. The reunion committee is still looking for several classmates. If you graduated from Bennett High School in 1992 and you have not been following our Facebook page or receiving group emails from the reunion committee, email your information to bennett1992classreunion@gmail.com. Be Frugal With Your Mail
The Postal Service needs more money, but it may not come from federal customers. The General Services Administration is asking agencies to be frugal when it comes to mail. A new GSA bulletin encouraged agencies to use the Postal Service's flat-rate boxes and envelopes, schedule mail in advance to take advantage of USPS discounts and go electronic whenever possible. Executive orders geared toward making agencies less wasteful, more efficient and more green prompted the bulletin. Meanwhile, the Postal Service said it was losing billions of dollars in part because customers, including agencies, are turning away from snail mail and toward e-mail.
Main Street Gym Has A Silver Weekend In Ohio
The four Main St Gym boxer that won their way to the Regional Junior Olympic Tournament in Chesapeake Ohio this past weekend, did themselves, Team Maryland and Salisbury's Main St Gym proud.
All four boxer, Kobe Moore, Rudy Calixto, Ivan Calixto and Corey Moore, brought home Silver medals. “I know they were a little disappointed that they did not grab Gold, but they all fought very well and all their bouts were very close. That means they were suppose to be there” said Coach Hal Chernoff. Lots of bouts were stopped either due to a coach feeling his boxer was outclassed or one boxer stopping another during the bout, or the referee believing the safety of a boxer might be in jeopardy. All four of our kids were in close fights and neither corner could be sure of who pulled out the win when the final bell rang. It would have been great for one of the kids to grab a gold, especially Corey, where he would have advanced to the nationals, but their performance taught them that the hard work is paying off and harder work will pay off even more. The experience was something that will motivate these kids to train harder because they see what they are fighting for and they see how slim the margin can be between a win and a loss. As always I have every reason to be proud of each of them. Not only did they perform well, they took the process of making weight very serious and that takes a level of maternity not all kids have. We will continue to compete at club shows and get ready for the next tournament which will be the Silver Gloves “ added Chernoff
House Tackles Human Trafficking
The House approved language to prevent agencies from working with companies involved in human traffickers. It was an amendment to the 2013 defense authorization bill, which passed the House Friday. The provision would require all contracts to allow for termination and penalties if the contractors engaged in trafficking. It would also require large overseas contracts to have compliance plans and force agencies to investigate complaints of trafficking. The measure was aimed at contractors working in the Middle East. Last year, the government uncovered some firms allegedly holding back employee passports, forcing people to stay on work sites. There have also been allegations that some companies have lied about compensation.

Sleep Apnea Linked to Higher Cancer Death Risk
Sleep apnea has already been
linked to a host of adverse health problems, such as high blood pressure
and heart disease. Now, new research suggests that in people who already
have cancer, the sleep disorder may raise their risk of dying from
cancer.
People with the most severe sleep apnea -- those who have 30 or more
episodes of low or no oxygen in an hour of sleep -- had almost five times
the risk of cancer death compared to someone without sleep apnea.
"Sleep apnea is the periodic pausing of breathing during sleep that
results in drops in oxygen levels in your blood. It causes snoring and
sleepiness during the day," explained study author Dr. Javier Nieto, chair
of the department of population health sciences at the University of
Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, in Madison.

China's Dalian Wanda Group Co. to buy AMC Entertainment Holdings
A Chinese conglomerate has announced it will buy U.S. cinema chain
AMC Entertainment Holdings for $2.6 billion to create the world's
biggest movie theater operator.
Dalian Wanda Group Co. said Monday it is willing to invest an additional $500 million to fund AMC's strategic and operating initiatives.
Wanda said AMC's headquarters will remain in the Kansas City area and day-to-day operations will remain unchanged.
Privately owned Wanda operates hotels, department stores, tourism and other businesses. Its assets include 86 theaters in China and film production and distribution businesses.

‘Eat the Rich and Smash the State!’: Up to 1,000 Protesters March Through Chicago
Up to 1,000 protesters flooded the streets of Chicago Saturday night,
protesting NATO and spreading an Occupy Wall Street message.
The Chicago Tribune reported protesters and police clashed repeatedly, resulting in 18 arrests, according to the Associated Press. Still, the night was relatively peaceful and without reports of major damage as demonstrators marched and chanted for hours.
Large contingents of police officers were on hand, some in riot gear and others on bikes, but they generally let protesters remain in the streets, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:
At one point, a police van with sirens flashing drove down the middle of Jackson, forcing the marchers to disperse. A protester jumped on the front fender of the van, then got off, and someone screamed, “They hit him! They hit him!”

Today Alex Guerrero faced Judge Wade in one of the most ridiculous cases Wicomico County has ever seen. Under pressure, Alex plead guilty but Judge Wade saw right through the political crap in his case and only gave Alex a 90 day PBJ, UNSUPERVISED.All along I had thought Alex was pulled over for not wearing his seat belt, not true. Alex was wearing his seat belt. He was just pulled over for that reason. The K-9 Dog never came out of the Sheriff's Deputies vehicle and get this, Alex was finally served with his ticket IN JAIL.
Chalk one up for the all mighty Sheriff Lewis on this one. He must be so proud of his Department. Then again, if you talk to any one of the Deputies there that Department has become somewhat of a laughing stock. No drugs were ever found, go figure. I'm amazed the Sheriff didn't insist on a DNA test. Then again, look at what happened the last time he pulled that one on the public.

This daughter of Chinese immigrants is hoping to do what no other American has ever done: Win a medal in table tennis.
Ariel's dad said he "still cannot believe it."
Erik Ellefsen, Ariel's school's counselor, says she has a deal with her parents.
"If she keeps A's, she can keep playing table tennis," Erik said.

"This lawsuit is about an unprecedented attack by the federal government on one of America’s most cherished freedoms: the freedom to practice one’s religion without government interference," the archdiocese says on the website. "It is not about whether people have access to certain services; it is about whether the government may force religious institutions and individuals to facilitate and fund services which violate their religious beliefs."

Mayor Ireton Makes It Up As He Goes Along
Over the weekend Mayor Jim Ireton was published as saying no longer with certain Blogs say there's a parking problem Downtown. He suggested that Salisbury News had claimed there was no parking and went on to say he wanted to surplus the parking lots because there's so much open space in the parking garage.
Now, considering I am not a POLITICIAN and I tell the TRUTH, let's get a few things straight here. The ONLY parking problems I suggested was for those handicapped people only having ONE parking spot in lot 15 at the west end of the Plaza. You all do remember that, right? I did mention that on Thursday's there's an issue with metered parking spots being available when the Opportunity Shop opens. I went on to explain how many people are being ticketed because there isn't enough available parking IN THAT LOT.
You have to love it when a politician twists your words and makes his entire speech revolve around false facts. I guess we'll see a lot more of that down the road from him but the cool part will be, in those debates I'll be able to confront each and every one of those lies head on and he will look like a fool.
Nevertheless, look at the photos above. OK Jim, you want everyone to park at the parking garage. What about the elderly or handicapped? I know, you couldn't care less because that's the selfish kind of guy that you are. IF you had thought about it I'm sure you would have mentioned them but now we can all know you've been called out and you'll now have a plan for them as well. IF you cared you would have already FIXED the parking problem for the handicapped weeks ago after we exposed it.
Salisbury can no longer afford to have a child who speaks well running the City with bogus lines and borrowed money. Downtown will get revitalized without section 8 housing and government grants. My plan rebuilds Downtown with private funds in which businesses will be lining up to make offers for properties above and beyond their asking price. Yes, that's right, it will get done. If you want to know how, come by 300 W. Main Street like hundreds of other people have and I'll tell you how. You'll walk out of my Office with your jaw on the ground amazed at how no one ever thought of it.
I have shared it with young people as well as old people and not one person has said a negative thought. Everyone said they thought it was the greatest idea anyone has ever come up with. My plan is to remove a majority of parking meters Downtown without ever losing a PENNY. My plan is to beautify Downtown without costing the taxpayers a PENNY. My plan is NOT a fantasy. Its not election words. My plans are REALISTIC and fiscally responsible.
Now, if you want affordable housing, if you want to give away valuable riverfront property and create an inner city within 10 years, well, you'll vote for Jim Ireton, should he actually choose to run. I'll not subject you to such falsehoods. Politicians want to sell you on stuff like Ireton is proposing and figure they'll be gone in a few years. Then they'll point the finger at whomever is in office 10 years down the road, just like the Fire Boat, as an example.
I say eliminate all of the parking meters as long as I can show you and prove to you there's another way to raise that money. Stop by and let me show you how it can be done. Again Mr. Ireton, I have a platform to counter your BS in the Daily Times. We'll just see who wins in the end.
NC Teacher Screams at Student: It’s Criminal to Criticize Obama
A YouTube video uploaded on Monday afternoon apparently shows a schoolteacher from the Rowan-Salisbury school district in North Carolina informing a student that failing to be respectful of President Obama is a criminal offense. Breitbart News has uncovered that the student is a high school junior, and that the teacher is apparently one Tanya Dixon-Neely.
The video shows a classroom discussion about the Washington Post hit piece about Mitt Romney bullying a kid some five decades ago. One student says, “Didn’t Obama bully someone though?” The teacher says: “Not to my knowledge.” The student then cites the fact that Obama, in Dreams from My Father, admits to shoving a little girl. “Stop, no, because there is no comparison,” screams the teacher. Romney is “running for president. Obama is the president.”

Udder Nonsense: Raw-milk Confiscations Begin
The dispute over raw milk has reached a fever pitch in recent weeks, with a judge ruling that owners of cows have no right to the milk their herds produce, and protests being staged by mad moms whose access to such foods is being threatened.

Same Sex marriage in Maryland has been signed into law and takes effect next year. But opponents are working on a petition to force a referendum on same sex marriage on the November ballot.
Karen Artis, a member of Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton Maryland has talked to her 11-year-old daughter Sydney about gay marriage.
"As far as explaining it to her, she's aware of it and we are fine with it. With the NAACP supporting it, may be people will be more open to discussing it or at least think about it."

SU WOMENS LAX UPSET IN NCAA FINAL
Montclair, N.J. - Trinity wins its first NCAA Women's Lacrosse title in its first appearance in the NCAA Final Four, finishing the season with a best-ever 21-1 final record. Hildebrand, senior co-captains Liz Bruno (Andover, Mass.) and Liza Beckler (Potomac, Md.), junior goalkeeper Olivia Whitney (Danvers, Mass.), and sophomore attackmer Shea Kusiak (Longmeadow, Mass.) were named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team, and Bruno took home Most Outstanding Player honors. Salisbury ends its year at 22-1.
Trinity scored the only four goals of the first half, as the defensive unit of Beckler, junior Mallory Hinman (Longmeadow, Mass.), and sophomores Lyndsey Shepard (Hamilton, Mass.) and Midge Daniel (Wellesley, Mass.) held Salisbury to just five shots and Whitney made saves on all three shots on goal.
Hildebrand scored the first goal of the game 2:04 into the contest on a wrap around the back of the goal, beating Salisbury sophomore goalie Ashton Wheatley (Cambridge, Md.) who had left the crease. Bantam rookie midfielder Caroline Hayes (Greenland, N.H.) scored on a free position with 10:43 on the clock, and junior attacker Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.) scored on a spin move followed by a bouncing shot past Wheatley for a 3-0 Trinity lead with 7:12 remaining.
Kusiak completed the first-half scoring with just under five minutes left before the break, darting through the Sea Gull defense up the middle. Kusiak completed the first-half scoring with just under five minutes left before the break, darting through the Sea Gull defense up the middle. The first-ever wedding show in Maryland catering to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people attracted couples from throughout the region to Towson on Sunday. The event comes three months after Gov. Martin O'Malley signed into law the Civil Marriage Protection Act that would allow same-sex marriages in Maryland. That law is delayed from taking effect to allow for a potential referendum question.

Babe Ruth Jersey Sells for a Record $4.4 Million at Auction
Babe Ruth equals big bucks.
A baseball jersey worn by The Bambino sold for more than $4.4 million Sunday, a record for any item of sports memorabilia, according to the buyer and seller.
SCP Auctions, based in California, said the circa 1920 New York Yankees uniform top is the earliest known jersey worn by Ruth and it fetched $4,415,658 at the company's April auction, which ended Sunday. That price broke the previous record of $4,338,500 set in 2010 for James Naismith's founding rules of basketball.
Lelands.com said it submitted the winning bid for the jersey, which had been displayed for years at The Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore. The road top has "New York" written across the front and the Hall of Fame slugger wore it shortly after he was sold to the Yankees by the Boston Red Sox for $100,000 following the 1919 season.

My husband has a long record of money problems. He runs up huge credit-card bills and at the end of the month, if I try to pay them off, he shouts at me, saying I am stealing his money. He says pay the minimum and let our kids worry about the rest, but already we can hardly keep up with the interest. Also he has been so arrogant and abusive toward our neighbors that most of them no longer speak to us. The few that do are an odd bunch, to whom he has been giving a lot of expensive gifts, running up our bills even more. Also, he has gotten religious. One week he hangs out with Catholics and the next with people who say the Pope is the Anti-Christ, and the next he's with Muslims.. Finally, the last straw. He's demanding that before anyone can be in the same room with him, they must sign a loyalty oath. It's just so horribly creepy! Can you help?

Individually the poor are not too tempting to thieves, for obvious reasons. Mug a banker and you might score a wallet containing a month’s rent. Mug a janitor and you will be lucky to get away with bus fare to flee the crime scene. But as Business Week helpfully pointed out in 2007, the poor in aggregate provide a juicy target for anyone depraved enough to make a business of stealing from them.
The trick is to rob them in ways that are systematic, impersonal, and almost impossible to trace to individual perpetrators. Employers, for example, can simply program their computers to shave a few dollars off each paycheck, or they can require workers to show up 30 minutes or more before the time clock starts ticking.
Lenders, including major credit companies as well as payday lenders, have taken over the traditional role of the street-corner loan shark, charging the poor insanely high rates of interest. When supplemented with late fees (themselves subject to interest), the resulting effective interest rate can be as high as 600% a year, which is perfectly legal in many states.

Automaker Tests Show Damage To Older Car Engines From Running On E15 Ethanol
A 2010 decision by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to allow the sale of gasoline blended with up to 15 percent ethanol (called E15) has come under fire from many groups. January have become the $600 billion contingency they can’t plan for.
Military planners are under strict orders not to devise scenarios for meeting the demands of “sequestration,” as the automatic, across-the-board spending reductions are called. Such paperwork, if leaked, would tell Congress there might be a way to deal with such drastic cuts.
“The department is not currently planning for sequestration,” Air Force Lt. Col. Melinda Morgan, a Pentagon spokeswoman, told The Washington Times. The White House budget office “has not directed agencies, including [the Defense Department], to initiate any plans for sequestration.”

Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu Reportedly Ignoring Pentagon Rules in Plan to Sell Military Equipment
An Arizona sheriff has allegedly ignored a Pentagon rule, collecting
millions of dollars’ worth of surplus military equipment that is
intended for law-enforcement use and distributing some of the gear to
non-police agencies.
During the past two years, the office of Sheriff Paul Babeu has received more than $7 million worth of Humvees, fire trucks, guns, defibrillators, barber chairs, underwear, thermal-imaging scopes, computers, motor scooters and other items, The Arizona Republic reports.
According to the paper, the merchandise – secured through the Defense Logistics Agency -- is made available to more than 17,000 police and sheriff's departments nationwide. Last year, nearly $500 million worth of new and used items were distributed by the agency -- more than double what was requisitioned in fiscal 2010.

U.S. Department of Justice Slaps Baltimore Police Over Right To Record Issue
The U.S. Department of Justice is coming down hard on the Baltimore Police Department as it prepares to issue a settlement to a man whose footage they deleted after he recorded them making an arrest.
The settlement stems from a 2010 incident at the Preakness Stakes, which prompted the Department of Justice in January to send a statement of interest to the judge presiding over the resulting civil suit, advising him that such blatant action violates the Constitution and should not be tolerated.
That letter provoked the police department into issuing a 7-page General Order to its officers February stating that citizens have the “absolute right” to record cops in public as long as they did not "violate any section of any law, ordinance, code or criminal article."
Baltimore cops simply expanded existing laws to allow them to continue cracking down on camera-wielding citizens, including threatening to arrest a man for loitering.
On Monday, the Department of Justice slapped the Baltimore Police Department with another letter, condemning it for writing such a vague general order and for allowing the harassment to continue.

Suspect: Julia L. Wagner, 20, Laurel, DE
Narrative: On 16 May 2012 at approximately 1230 PM, Julia Wagner initiated a series of text messages to an individual in an attempt to sell a quantity of marijuana. Unbeknownst to Wagner, she was inadvertently texting a law enforcement officer who then continued the text conversation. Wagner told this officer where she would be and what kind of vehicle she would be in. That information was relayed to an on-duty deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the parking lot Wagner texted she was en-route to. The deputy entered the parking lot and located the vehicle matching the description that was texted out. Upon identifying the driver and sole occupant as Julia Wagner of Laurel, DE; she then admitted to having the marijuana in her possession.
The marijuana was packaged and in a sufficient quantity to indicate an intent to sell it.
The deputy placed Wagner under arrest and transported her to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Wagner in the Detention Center in lieu of $15,000.00 bond.

SU MENS LAX STOPS STEVENSON AGAIN TO GO TO NCAA FINAL
Senior attackman Lantz Carter ripped a shot into the back of the net in the second quarter to break a 0-0 tie that lasted for the first 26:14 of the game, and No. 1 Salisbury defeated No. 5 Stevenson on Sunday, 7-2, in an NCAA tournament semifinal game at Sea Gull Stadium to advance to the Division III national championship game.
Carter's goal broke the longest scoreless streak of the season for the Sea Gulls to begin a game, and it was the first time that Salisbury did not score a goal in the first quarter.
"I figured that the next time I came in, I would just take what they gave me," Carter said. "Sammy (Bradman) gave me the ball ... I faked and just stuck a shot. I took what they gave me."
The Salisbury defense, led by senior defender Andrew Sellers and sophomore goalkeeper Alex Taylor, dominated the Mustang offense to hold Stevenson to its largest scoring draught to start a game this season, as well. The Gulls held their opponent scoreless for the first 40:22 of the game.
The goal, which came with 4:34 left in the third quarter, ended a scoreless streak that lasted 52:45 for the Mustangs against Salisbury, dating back to the Capital Athletic Conference championship game.
"Defensively today, starting in the back line with Alex Taylor, who was really seeing the ball well, we were forcing them to take shots that a goalie could save," Salisbury Head Coach Jim Berkman said. Taylor turned away a career-best 19 Stevenson shots in the contest. "I think that the defensive effort was truly outstanding today."
After the scoreless first quarter and Carter's go-ahead goal in the second, Salisbury took control of the game in the third frame with two goals each from senior midfielders Sam Bradman and Cory Nowak. The players tied for the team lead in goals for the game, and Bradman led the team with three points.
Despite being outshot 12-10 by the Mustangs in the quarter, the Sea Gulls won 3 of 5 faceoffs and were successful on all seven clears. The defense continued to step up, smothering both of Stevenson's man-up opportunities, and Taylor made seven of his 19 saves in the third. For the game, the defensive unit held Stevenson to 0 for 6 on man-up chances. Defenders, senior Chad Surman and sophomores Danny Sherr and Zeke Smith, all had a hand in holding the Mustang's offense at bay.
"We are fortunate to have a good man-down defense," said Bradman. "Once we get into a man-down situation, we know that we have a good chance to stop them."
Junior midfielder Ryan Clarke and senior attackman Tony Mendes both netted scores in the fourth to cap the game and the trip to Foxborough, Mass. next Sunday, May 27. Senior attackman Matt Cannone registered two assists in the game to lead the team in that category.
Salisbury will move on to its third-straight national championship game to take on the Red Dragons of State University of New York at Cortland. Cortland topped Tufts University, 12-10 in the other semifinal on Sunday. The championship game will take place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., and is set to start a 4:00 p.m.

Alberto's maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 kph) early Monday with little change in strength expected.

I am very concerned about my son, he is incarcerated at the Wicomico county detention center, he is a 20 year old, being held on a $25,000 bond for violation of probation charge for a drug charge, he is a young man who has never been in jails before, yes he has a drug problem, but not a bad person, a very kind hearted young man with a 2 yr old daughter, struggling with an addiction problem. I went to visit him and found him with 2 black eyes, a razor cut across his nose, swollen lip, bruised mouth, bloodied inside his lip, swollen eyes, he was attacked by a man in his 30's , extremely muscular with a jail house made weapon made with a razor attached to toothbrush, in the bathroom where he was cut and beaten. When I complained to the detention center they told me that shower areas were private. They have female guards and they can't supervise that area. Are you kidding me? What kind of society do we live in when our young men are being caged like animals for drug addiction, there is a drug store on every street corner to buy “legal drugs” but if you possess drugs you get arrested and caged, treated like an animal. Big “Pharma” and our corrupt government gets richer, “peasants and royalty” we slide through time into our new “tech-world” totally oblivious to what is going on around us, nothing ever changes.

A prison guard was killed Sunday during a riot that also injured five
other correctional officers and hurt three inmates at a privately run
facility in Mississippi that holds illegal immigrants, authorities said.
The riot began about 2:40 p.m. CDT and involved dozens of inmates before it was brought under control late Sunday night. Adams County Coroner James Lee confirmed that a guard died, but said he could not provide any other details until the correctional officer's family was notified.
Emilee Beach, a spokeswoman at the Adams County Correctional Center in southwest Mississippi, said the uprising involved multiple inmates but she wasn't sure exactly how many because the investigation was still ongoing.
