Man Who Discovered CTE Says Football Should Be Considered Child Abuse
BOSTON (CBS) — The doctor who discovered CTE believes that letting anyone under 18 years old play football should be considered child abuse.
Dr. Bennet Omalu, a neuropathologist and expert in the study of the effectsof concussions, recently reacted to the study that found 110 of 111 former NFL players who had their brains donated suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). He said that letting children play football is the definition of “child abuse,” and doesn’t believe there is any way to make the sport safer.
“Someday there will be a district attorney who will prosecute for child abuse [on the football field], and it will succeed,” Omalu said during an event in New York, according to Sports Illustrated. “It is the definition of child abuse.
“If you play football, and if your child plays football, there is a 100 percent risk exposure. There is nothing like making football safer. That’s a misnomer,” Omalu continued.

'Aspiring Pastor' Hillary Goes From Seances And SpiritCooks To Bible Thumping
According to deep state’s department of brand management & optics, Atlantic division, the ever-pious Hillary Clinton wants to become a pastor – a move which is sure to bring religious rust-belt swing voters back to the blue side for any future political endeavors…
“Hillary Clinton wants to preach. That’s what she told Bill Shillady, her longtime pastor, at a recent photo shoot for his new book about the daily devotionals he sent her during the 2016 campaign. Scattered bits of reporting suggest that ministry has always been a secret dream of the two-time presidential candidate: Last fall, the former Newsweek editor Kenneth Woodward revealed that Clinton told him in 1994 that she thought “all the time” about becoming an ordained Methodist minister. She asked him not to write about it, though: “It will make me seem much too pious.” The incident perfectly captures Clinton’s long campaign to modulate—and sometimes obscure—expressions of her faith.” –The Atlantic
Because what better way to make people forget about a massive pay-for-play scheme, raping Haiti, and a bitchy image than God?

MD Tax-Free Week: Backpacks Now Included
MD Tax Free Week:
Backpacks Now Added to the List of Tax-Free Items
Mark your calendars for Maryland’s Annual Tax-Free Week! This event will be held in stores statewide from August 13th to 19th. During this time, there will be no sales tax on qualifying clothing or footwear, priced at $100 or less. Such items include, but are not limited to, shirts, slacks, jeans, dresses, robes, underwear, belts, shoes, and boots.
Each qualifying article of clothing or footwear selling for $100 or less will be exempt from taxes, regardless of how many items are sold at the same time. For example, two $60 sweaters sold at the same time are both exempt, even though the total purchase is more than $100.
In addition to these items, I fronted a bill that passed this past session titled Sales and Use Tax – Tax-Free Period for Back-to-School Shopping – Sale of Backpacks and Bookbags (SB622).This allows backpacks and bookbags to be added to the list of tax-free items during Maryland’s tax-free week. The first $40 of any backpack or bookbag will, as of this year, now be qualified as tax-free, allowing you and your family more flexibility when it comes to back-to-school shopping.
As both a mother and a grandmother, I understand the need for affordable back-to-school supplies, and knew how important it was to get backpacks and bookbags added to Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot’s list of approved tax-free items.
For more information on Maryland’s tax-free week, please visit www.marylandtaxes.com or call 1-800-MD TAXES. Happy shopping!

Weekly Fishing Report: Aug. 9, 2017
As I was coming across the Bay Bridge yesterday evening, I could not help but marvel at the schools of juvenile menhaden playing along the calm surface of the bay and drifting along in the currents on both sides of the bay. The bay is truly a bountiful basin of life and on this evening there did not seem to be any hungry striped bass or bluefish nearby. All was calm on the Chesapeake this evening, at least at this area.
The Conowingo Dam has been releasing a lot of water at mid-day intervals for power generation, and there is a lot of discolored water moving down the lower Susquehanna and into the uppermost parts of the bay. It is beginning to clear some in the past six days and hopefully fishing will improve. In the satellite image on the left taken on Aug. 4, one can see the stained water coming out of the lower Susquehanna River.

Why you shouldn't put your feet on the dashboard, woman warns
As soon as Audra Tatum would hop into the passenger seat of a car, the mother of three from Walker County, Georgia, would lean back and relax with her feet up on the dashboard.
Her husband warned her about the dangerous habit, but Tatum didn't care — it was comfortable.
"All my life I had my legs crossed and my foot on the dash," Tatum told CBS News. "My husband always told me, 'You're going to get in a wreck someday, and you're going to break your legs.'"
Tatum assured him he was wrong.
"I'll put my foot down in time," she would always reply.
But two years ago, on August 2, 2015, Tatum's perspective changed completely.

Dish misses profit expectations but limits subscriber losses
Dish Network Corp's (DISH.O) shares declined on Thursday after the satellite television provider's quarterly results missed analysts' estimates, and its chief executive declined to give specifics on merger discussions, saying that the company was focused on building its new wireless network.
Dish has been buying up wireless airwaves, or spectrum, in recent years as its satellite business has come under pressure from cable as well as cheaper streaming options. Analysts have long thought the holdings could make Dish a natural fit for a tie-up with wireless carriers such as Verizon Communications (VZ.N) or T-Mobile US Inc (TMUS.O).
But the company is pursuing its own plan of putting the airwaves that it has acquired to use. Dish plans to build a low-cost wireless network by 2020 to meet the U.S. government's deadline for deploying some of the spectrum. Dish said on the company's post-earnings conference call that it was negotiating contracts with vendors and having discussions with tower companies and other partners.
Chief Executive Charlie Ergen said it was realistic to assume that Dish would need help in the second stage of a network build-out as standards for a next-generation wireless network, or 5G, evolve. 5G is expected to offer faster speeds and shorter response times.

‘It’s Like The Perfect Storm This Weekend’ In Berlin; Town To Host Variety Of Events For All Ages
BERLIN – Visitors of all ages are expected to flock to Berlin this weekend as the town hosts an array of summer events.
A sidewalk sale, 2nd Friday Art Stroll, block party, outdoor movie and bluegrass concert will all be hosted in Berlin Aug. 11-13. While it’s not unusual for the town to host special events, there aren’t typically this many happening in a single weekend.
“It’s like the perfect storm this weekend,” said Ivy Wells, the town’s economic development director.
Festivities kick off Friday, with a town-wide sidewalk sale beginning at 10 a.m. The sale, which continues Saturday and Sunday, coincides with the launch of Maryland’s tax-free shopping week, which is Aug. 13-19.
Downtown merchants, able to set up their wares outside their shops, will offer a variety of sales and discounts.
“Come early to get the best deals,” said Megan Cosman, proprietor of Patty Jeans Boutique.

Tax Reduction and Simplification — How to Defeat the Dems
The regulatory cuts ordered by President Donald Trump are already saving consumers billions of dollars. His next objective is tax cuts.
After deliberating about “tax reform” for the last six months, the GOP’s congressional leaders announced last week that they had reached broad agreement with the Trump administration on common principles and goals for tax reform measures that they aim to implement by year’s end.
Of course, Democrats quickly responded with a letter to Trump ostensibly expressing their “interest in working with [the GOP] on bipartisan tax reform,” but playing their class-warfare card: “Tax reform cannot be a cover story for delivering tax cuts to the wealthiest.”
Fact is, their classist claims are a deception, as Democrat policies and programs have promoted income inequality for decades.
Notably, only 45 Demos signed the letter.
Joe Manchin (D-WV), Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and Joe Donnelly (D-IN) were slammed by their party for refusing to sign — meaning there is not unified leftist opposition to the GOP tax reduction plan. (Recall that Manchin, Heitkamp and Donnelly were the lone Demo voters for the Supreme Court confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch.)
Manchin tersely rebutted the condemnation of his party: “I don’t care if I get defeated. … If [Democrats] think because I’m up for election that I can be wrangled into voting for s—t that I don’t like and can’t explain, they’re all crazy.”

College Park postpones plan to allow voting for people in US illegally
WASHINGTON — A plan to allow people living the United States illegally in College Park city elections has been postponed.
College Park Mayor Patrick Wojahn said a city council vote will likely be pushed back to early September.
The city council was supposed to vote on the proposal Tuesday but the bill’s sponsor, Councilwoman Christine Nagle, said that city leaders will first consider the possibility of placing the issue in the ballot in November.
Nearly a dozen cities in Maryland already allow all of its residents, including citizens living in the country illegally, the right to vote. College Park could become the biggest city in the state to grant that right if the bill passes.

Fitton: Justice Department Blacks Out Talking Points on Lynch-Clinton Tarmac Meeting
We have begun to see how the Trump administration responds over time to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) queries, especially our requests regarding shady dealings in the Obama administration. We aren’t encouraged. One must wonder if Obama holdovers at the Department of Justice (DOJ) are still calling the shots, or whether President Trump’s appointees simply don’t care about battling government corruption and enforcing the rule law.
Here are the particulars.
The DOJ has refused to disclose the talking points developed by the Obama Justice Department to respond to press inquiries about the controversial June 27, 2016, tarmac meeting between Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
The DOJ heavily redacted the documents under FOIA Exemption b (5), which allows agencies to withhold draft or deliberative process material. The blacked-out material centers on talking points drafted and used by Justice.

Breaking News: President Trump refused to back off his threat to rain down "fire and fury" on North Korea, saying "maybe it wasn't tough enough"
“Frankly the people that were questioning that statement, was it too tough, maybe it wasn’t tough enough,” Mr. Trump told reporters. “They’ve been doing this to our country for a long time, many years. It’s about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries. So if anything, maybe that statement wasn’t tough enough.” |

Man uses flower ruse to steal from senior living facility, authorities say
BEL AIR, Md. —Harford County investigators are searching for a burglar who targeted the elderly. Surveillance video shows how he made his way inside a senior-living complex.
The video shows the man bringing a bouquet of flowers in with him -- a simple but clever ruse. The thief got away with loads of valuables, and the way he got into the building is raising questions about security at the complex.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office captioned the video "Who does this?" In a Facebook post that's getting thousands of views.
It shows a man peeking into the windows of the Avondell Assisted Living Complex in Bel Air, carrying a bouquet of flowers, then walking into the building just after 7 p.m. on July 28 with no apparent problem. Once inside, he's accused of burglarizing several apartments.

Baltimore murder crisis: 2 deaths on 'Nobody kill Anybody' weekend
Telling Baltimore’s criminals not to kill anyone for three days turned out to be too much to ask.
Two deadly shootings Saturday marred the city’s “Nobody kill anybody” weekend but activists behind the grassroots ceasefire campaign aren’t conceding defeat.
Another shooting Monday occurred an hour after the ceasefire period ended.
“I would point to Friday,” Corneilius Scott of Mothers of Murdered Sons and Daughters told Fox News. “There were no killings on Friday and how often does that happen?”

Ocean City Wins Court Case Over Boardwalk Building
OCEAN CITY — An historic Ocean City property near the Inlet could soon be coming down after a Worcester County Circuit Court judge last month opined it was encroaching on the town’s property on the east side of the Boardwalk.
The iconic building on the east side of the Boardwalk at South Division Street has been home to different businesses and enterprises since at least 1910 and for the last several decades has been home to a Dumser’s Dairyland ice cream parlor. It is one of just a couple of buildings that sit on the east side of the Boardwalk.
The ownership of the land on which the historic building sits was called into question last year after a 50-year agreement reached between the heirs of the original owner, Nathan Rapoport, and the town of Ocean City in 1966 expired. The building is owned by Nathans Associates, which includes the heirs of Nathan Rapoport, and has been leased to Dumsers for several decades.
In 1966, Nathans reached an agreement with the town to tear down the existing structure and erect a new larger building with a commercial interest, now Dumsers, on the Boardwalk level with living quarters above on a second level. When the 1966 agreement expired last year, the Town of Ocean City asserted its ownership rights of the property and requested Nathans Associates vacate the premises. Nathans Associates then filed suit in Worcester County Circuit Court asserting the Town of Ocean City had essentially abandoned its ownership of the parcel by allowing the structure on the site for over a century.

Breaking News: Scientists reported a breakthrough in gene-edited piglets that may open the way for organ transplants from animals to humans
In a bold scientific step that helps open the door to organ transplants from animals, researchers at Harvard and a private company have created gene-edited piglets cleansed of viruses that might cause disease in humans.
The advance, reported on Thursday in the journal Science, may make it possible one day to transplant livers, hearts and other organs from pigs into humans, a hope that experts had all but given up.
This $5 Trillion Time Bomb Will Devastate Americans
Over 3,000 millionaires have fled Chicago in recent months.
This is the largest outflow of wealthy people from any US city right now. It’s also one of the largest outflows of wealthy people in the world.
But it’s not just millionaires… Every five minutes someone leaves Illinois.
In a recent poll, 47% of people in Illinois said they want to leave the state. Over the last decade, more than half a million people have done just that.
This is the largest outflow of people from any state in the country.
The people who leave are generally better educated, more skilled, and earn more money than those who stay. Entire towns of affluent Illinois refugees have sprouted up in Florida, Arizona, and other states.
Illinois is bleeding productive people.
This is a major warning sign.
Wealthy people are often the first to leave a bad situation. They have the means to simply get up and go. And when they do, they take their money and their businesses with them.
This hurts the local property market and the rest of the local economy.
Many of Illinois’ millionaires own businesses that employ large numbers of people. As they leave, there are fewer people and businesses left to shoulder the state’s enormous and growing financial burdens.
Many of these people are leaving for one simple reason: rising taxes.

School letter says AP and Honors classes will be decided by race
A Virginia high school sent a disturbing letter to parents and students announcing they would be selecting students for Advanced Placement and honors classes at least partly based on skin color, a concerned parent told Fox News.
Martin Luther King, Jr. must be turning over in his grave.
A parent forwarded me a copy of the letter sent from John Handley High School in Winchester.
“Through our collective work, advanced classes such as AP and Honors will have proportional representation,” read the letter. “Proportional representation is 40% White, 35% Hispanic, 12% African American, 10% mixed race.”
The letter went on to explain that public schools across the country “continue to see outcomes that are disproportionate by race and social class.”

Maxine's housing as reported by the LA Times is a little fishy
Maxine counts her LA house as an asset having a minimum value $1,000,000.
Yet Zillow lists it at $4,258.578.
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/549-S-Lucerne-Blvd-Los-Angeles-CA-90020/20775243_zpid/
She lists
701 W. Barstow Palm Springs, CA
as an asset.
There is no 701 W. Barstow in Palm Springs, CA
There is a 701 W. Baristo Road, though. It's the Palm Springs Tennis Club and a restaurant called Spencer's. Maxine lists it as a joint asset worth $15,000. Maybe they own part of it with other investors, but it certainly isn't worth only $15,000.

CBS News Poll Shows Nearly 75% Of Americans Disapprove Of Congress
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Now that Congress is in summer recess, how do Americans feel about the job they’ve done?
A new CBS News poll asks that question, and the answers aren’t good.
86 percent of Americans say not much was done. 73 percent disapprove of the job Congress is doing.
And while 19 percent of voters who say Congress didn’t get much done are glad, because their priorities weren’t right, 73 percent feel frustrated by the unfinished business.
WJZ contacted Republican Congressman Andy Harris and Democrat Senator Ben Cardin by phone for reaction to the poll.

Death Spiral: 6.5 Million People Choose To Pay Tax Rather Than Buy ObamacareM
For those who still aren't convinced that Obamacare is trapped in an inescapable death spiral that will inevitably end in nothing short of an epic collapse of the federal and state health insurance exchanges, perhaps you should consider the following facts from the National Review and Mark Farrah and Associates.
- Four heavily promoted open enrollments have taken place run by the Obama administration and the state exchanges.
- Federal law has required people to purchase insurance or pay a fine — and the individual mandate was administered through 2016 by the Obama administration. In fact, in 2015, 7.5 million people paid the fine, while 6.5 million paid the fine in 2016, according to the IRS.
- Every one of the people in the insurance market earning less than 400 percent of the federal poverty level were eligible for premium assistance — and those below 250 percent of the poverty level were also eligible to have their deductibles and co-pays subsidized.
- After all of this, only about 40 percent of those eligible for subsidies have signed up for coverage. In what other business or government program would such a dismal acceptance by those it was targeted to serve be considered a success?
- The number of insurance companies participating is on track to shrink by 38 percent in 2018.

White Males Barred From College's Social Justice Journalism Grant
Investigative journalists have a tendency to be crusaders, eager to right the perceived wrongs of the world. They're treated as romantic figures in literature alongside people like cowboys and spies, and there are instances where those comparisons are well-deserved.
However, on issues of "social justice," whatever that means, a college thinks the job isn't suitable for white males. From The College Fix:
If white males have a role in investigating social justice issues, not everyone sees it.
Journalism grants to probe social justice issues offered through Brandeis University are open only to women and journalists of color, according to a news release announcing the opportunity.
The research grants are offered as a collaborative effort between Brandeis University’s Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism and its Fund for Investigative Journalism.

Tucker: Waters' $4.3M 'Housing Coup' Might Qualify Her for Ben Carson's Job
Tucker Carlson reacted to Rep. Maxine Waters' (D-Calif.) threat to "take [HUD Secretary Dr. Ben Carson's] a** apart" by noting she might indeed be qualified to take his job.
Carlson said Waters, a 40-year politician, lives in a 6,000 square-foot mansion worth $4.3 million that is not in her congressional district.
He asked how Waters could afford a home like that in a ritzy neighborhood while solely working as a representative of the 43rd District.
"We should take her seriously on this subject," Carlson said, calling her a "confirmed expert on the question on housing."

Suspect: Raymond Warren Mathis, 28, Salisbury, MD

Upon arrival the deputy met with a subject later identified as Raymond Mathis standing in the front yard. The deputy found that Mathis was involved in the altercation and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Mathis. Instead of cooperating with an investigation as to what caused the deputy to respond in the first place, Mathis went on a profanity laced tirade that ultimately drew neighbors out of their homes to see what was going on. After refusing multiple attempts to calm down, the deputy placed Mathis under arrest.
Following his arrest, Mathis became non-complaint and continued his belligerent profanity laced yelling and physically struggled against the efforts of the deputy to transport him back to the Sheriff’s Office. At one point Mathis attempted to place his hands on the deputy.
Mathis was brought to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. Following an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Mathis on a bond of $3,000.00 in the Detention Center.

Newly Announced Gubernatorial Candidate Voted in D.C. Multiple Times While Registered in Maryland
Krishanti Vignarajah, who announced Wednesday she plans to run for Maryland governor, has voted four times in Washington, D.C., while also a registered voter in Maryland, records show.
Vignarajah, 37, an attorney, first registered to vote in Maryland in 2006 at an address in Catonsville. However, she didn’t vote in the state until the 2016 general election, according to her Maryland voting history, which Bethesda Beat obtained.
While her Maryland registration remained active, she registered to vote in D.C. on Sept. 14, 2010, then voted in the city’s primary the same day, according to her D.C. voting history, also obtained by Bethesda Beat.

Former Michelle Obama aide enters Maryland governor's race
Krishanti Vignarajah, a former policy director for former first lady Michelle Obama, is entering the race for Maryland governor.
“I am running for Governor because I am worried my daughter will not have the same opportunities my parents gave me when they brought our family here when I was a baby girl," Vignarajah, 37, said in a statement. "I hope Marylanders will agree the best man for the job is a woman.”
Vignarajah said that, if elected, she would focus on "improving schools, increasing wages, reducing crime, treating drug addiction, alleviating traffic, investing in infrastructure, and protecting" the environment.
The former Obama administration official also ripped the state's current Republican governor, Larry Hogan, accusing him of running a "deficit in leadership."

23% of all federal prisoners are illegals
Nearly one-quarter of all federal inmates are illegal immigrants and virtually all are in deportation proceedings or already face removal orders, according to a new Homeland Security report.
The Justice Department's Bureau of Prisons, fulfilling a presidential executive order requiring transparency on prisoner immigration status, said that it houses 187,855 inmates of which 42,034 are foreign born.
The DHS report said that only seven of those 42,034 have been granted deportation "relief."
According to experts the percentage of prisoners who are illegal immigrants is down slightly, but still remain a significant population.

How Did the Dems' IT Scandal Suspects Get Here?
Here is a radical proposition: The public has a right to know the immigration status and history of foreign criminal suspects. Their entrance and employment sponsorship records should not be treated like classified government secrets — especially if the public's tax dollars subsidized their salaries.
In March, I contacted the D.C. offices of House Congressional Democrats Joaquin Castro of Texas, Sander Levin of Michigan, Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Greg Meeks of New York and Ted Deutch of Florida. These public officials have at one time or another employed one of three Pakistani Muslim brothers or their family and friends caught up in a criminal theft and hacking probe of the House Democrats' information security systems. In all, IT worker Imran Awan and his family and friends hoovered up an estimated $4 million in government funds over a period of 13 years.
My question to the House Democrats was simple: Were the Awans and their family and friends H-1B tech workers — like so many of the 650,000 "temporary" foreign guest workers imported into America under that program over the past quarter-century and predominantly working in IT?
And if they're not H-1Bs, how exactly did Awan and company get here, when did they get here, and who brought them over here and why?
Awan first landed a job with former Democrat Rep. Robert Wexler as an "information technology director" in 2004 at the ripe age of 24 or 25. His younger brother, Jamal, is reportedly only 23 years old, yet has pulled in a salary of nearly $160,000 a year since 2014 (when he was 20!) as an information technology worker for Democrat Rep. Julia Brownley. That's 3.1 times greater than the median salary for a House IT worker, according to InsideGov.
Who sponsored these young foreign techies and chose them to do work in our nation's capital doing a job that countless young Americans are qualified to do?

Ralph Peters on N. Korea: ‘I Don’t Believe in Threatening Our Enemies, I Believe in Killing Them’
Retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters told Fox News host Bill Hemmer on Wednesday that he does not believe in "threatening" enemies of the United States like North Korea, but instead "killing them."
"Bill, first of all I don't believe in threatening our enemies, I believe in killing them," Peters said. "War should always be a last resort, but we are coming to the point in North Korea because of the utterly botched diplomacy because of the inanity of our approach to China on all this."
He went on to say that military conflict may become inevitable in order to protect the United States.
"The primary reason for our government isn't Social Security or health care or anything else, it's to defend our people and our territory and North Korea is making wanton threats," Peters said.
"We have the technical capability to militarily do anything we want on North Korea right up to wiping it off the map and leveling its mountains," Peters said. " My concern is that over a couple of generations now, our military has been schooled into the ideal, is to minimize casualties, even enemy casualties—break stuff, but don't hurt people."
"If we must go to North Korea with our military force, we need to hammer them and give the world a lesson of what we can really do," Peters said.

Clean Up Continues After ‘Unusual’ Tornadoes Hit Eastern Shore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Still reeling from tornadoes, people in two Eastern Shore communities are assessing the damage and beginning to rebuild.
Unusually strong summer storms over the past two weeks spawned powerful twisters that destroyed homes, but spared lives.
The recovery in Salisbury and Stevensville continues, but some residents are wondering why the weather warnings came just minutes before the storms hit.
The National Weather Service says the tornado on Kent Island was atypical because it happened in the middle of the night, the tornado in Salisbury had low-level rotation that was hard for radar to detect.

New York Times Soliciting Anti-Trump Bureaucracy Leakers
Emails from a reporter for the New York Times to government employees obtained exclusively by Breitbart News demonstrate that the newspaper’s employees are not just on the receiving end of leaks, but are actually soliciting government employees to become leakers. What’s more, the emails demonstrate theTimes colluded with the president of government union to encourage and solicit these leaks—something that may become highly problematic for both institutions.
“Thanks again for taking the time to speak today,” Coral Davenport, an “Energy and Environment Correspondent” for the New York Times, writes in an email to John J. O’Grady of the EPA workers’ union. O’Grady is the president of the AFGE Council 238 in Chicago—which represents EPA workers.

Legal Witch Hunts & Mad Hatters
By Thornton Crowe
Last Tuesday morning, in Wicomico County’s Circuit Court, Dove Pointe’s Director Donald Hackett was demonstratively absent as his former employee, Amy Francois, faced criminal misdemeanor charges; neglect of a minor (Statute Code CR.3.602.1.(b)). We all remember the inciting incident that happened over a year ago June at Leonard’s Mill Pond when a special needs child, Jyrah Brown, in the organization’s summer program, passed away days after he was found face down in the water.
Situations such as this always incites an urgency to ‘hold someone (anyone) accountable’ for such an unthinkable tragedy. In this case, the wrong ‘someone’ was put on trial and while Francois was acquitted because the State failed to meet the intent standard, she will live with this experience the rest of her life and the heartbroken Brown family have yet to see justice served for Jyrah’s death.
In reality, it’s Dove Pointe’s upper management, not Francois, whom bears the criminal negligence charge because it was their laxity that set the stage for this catastrophe to unfold. Yet, no upper management from the organization was present in Tuesday’s proceeding.
This leaves one to question why the State has not gone after Dove Pointe or its administrators, the ones ultimately responsible as they knowing put two severely special needs children with one caregiver who lacked the training to handle such a task. To date, no civil suit has been filed against the organization either. The question here is, why?
Are we seeing a two-tier justice system in play right here on the Shore?
We’re always told Dove Pointe is a great asset to our community, but how can they be when they allow their former employee to go through this ordeal without so much as an obligatory appearance. Of course, some could argue Hackett wants to distance his association from this event – perhaps in the hopes of not suffering scrutiny. However, one must wonder what kind of positive influence he has on Salisbury when his management threw their employee under the proverbial bus, knowing she was far from being a decision and/or policy maker.
Additionally, why would the State choose to go after the weakest link when all directives made, were far beyond her scope of influence and didn’t meet the statutory standards to secure a criminal conviction? This fact was brought to the State’s attention late June in a Dismissal Motion filed by Francois’s attorney, Luke Rommel. By not thinking through their stance to any legal or logical conclusion, the State Attorney's office not only set the victim’s family up for an imminent disappointment, it also needlessly wasted taxpayers’ money.
Did the State Attorney’s Office create more victims?
At its bare essence, the only thing Francois did was go to work that fateful day and do what she was told to do. Is this mundane activity now a reason to be threatened with a five-year prison sentence? If so, we’re all in legal peril every time we go to work!
Even though she was completely exonerated of any wrongdoing, Francois, a woman in her twenties, will live with future consequences as a result. Therefore, does she now have an excellent case against the State Attorney’s office for wrongful prosecution?
What happened to judicial duty and due diligence? If we still have any semblance of said responsibility in our jurisprudence, Dove Pointe should be next to face repercussions for their hand in this senseless death!

Long Beach Township Beach Patrol, LBI New Jersey
You're here to relax and kick back - leave the ditch digging to the pros.
Usually out of view of lifeguards, we find a wild number of these projects when we are patrolling the beaches. Chief Harrison managed to snap a pic of this one while on routine patrol the other day. Just after requesting the gentleman to fill it in, it started to actively collapse (he's ok).
This is a seriously dangerous, potentially life threatening activity. There have been numerous incidents of sand hole / sand tunnel collapses (to include here on LBI), where the results are catastrophic.
Once more, we're appealing to our followers to be our eyes and ears. If you see this occurring, please report it to a lifeguard or beach patrol officer. Doing so can save a life.

Nissan workers vote against union in Mississippi
Workers at a Nissan assembly plant in Mississippi have voted against forming a union, adding to decades of futility by United Auto Workers organizers at foreign-owned auto plants in the American South.
Representatives of Nissan Motor Co. and the UAW said late Friday that 2,244 workers, or 62 percent, voted against the UAW, while 1,307, or 38 percent, favored the union.
Company spokeswoman Parul Bajaj said employees' voice has been heard.
"They have rejected the UAW and chosen to self-represent, continuing the direct relationship they enjoy with the company," she said in a statement. "Our expectation is that the UAW will respect and abide by their decision and cease their efforts to divide our Nissan family."

Wells Fargo to pay US government $108M for veterans' loans
Wells Fargo & Co will pay the US government $108 million to settle a whistleblower lawsuit claiming it charged military veterans hidden fees to refinance their mortgages, and concealed the fees when applying for federal loan guarantees.
The third-largest US bank on Friday said the accord resolved claims that its Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loans should have been ineligible for guarantees under a US Department of Veterans Affairs loan guaranty program.
Such claims were raised in a lawsuit filed in 2006 and made public in 2011, in which Georgia mortgage brokers Victor Bibby and Brian Donnelly sought to recoup losses that the government, and by extension taxpayers, suffered on guaranteed loans that went into default.

Trump: Another Nixon?
Approximately two months before the election on September 10th I locked down the final draft of my book, Trumped!
In the opening sentence I ventured the following opinion, which was most certainly not in the mainstream at the time:
FIRST THERE WERE 17. THEN LITTLE MARCO, LOW ENERGY JEB AND LYIN’ Ted were gone. At length, there was one. And now there is even a chance he may become President.
That he did, and contrary to all expectations, too. But now there is an excellent chance that Mike Pence will become the 46th occupant of that office.
This time the pundits do see it coming. That’s because they are complicit — functioning as self-appointed magistrates of a recount of the 2016 election.
Indeed, the mainstream media is no longer even in the news business. It’s conducting a grand witch hunt and venomous prosecution that will not be sated until the Donald vacates the Oval Office — one way or another, probably by a threatened invocation of the 25th Amendment by the GOP elders on Capitol Hill.
Yes, it sounds a tad far fetched. But the key to what comes next is hiding in plain sight.
The Donald is exceedingly vulnerable because he is an insurgent outsider who will eventually end up alone in the Swamp in helpless isolation.
Trump’s impetuous tweeting is a case in point. Take a recent tweet about Germany, for example. It was essentially on point, but amounted to waving a red cape in the face of the already enraged establishment bull:
We have a MASSIVE trade deficit with Germany, plus they pay FAR LESS than they should on NATO & military. Very bad for U.S. This will change.
Of course, the establishment’s concerns have less to do with peace and security than raising sales, earnings and stock prices in the Atlantic-area’s military industrial complex.
And the establishment won’t abide any threat to its power.

McGill Uni says eating protein is key to muscle in old age
Eating protein throughout the day could be the key to maintaining muscle strength in old age, new research suggests.
An even protein intake throughout the day is associated with greater muscle strength in both sexes as they grow older, a study found.
Yet, frequently eating protein is only linked to improved mobility in elderly men, the research adds.
Eating protein with every meal is thought to replace that which is constantly being broken down. This occurs at a faster rate in older people.
An egg or tablespoon of peanut butter with every meal should be sufficient to boost a person's protein intake, according to experts.
