Today, Gasbuddy says Sam's Club Gas is $1.70 a gallon, WRONG! Sam's Club gas is $1.76 a gallon. I don't know who's running things over there but this is not at all accurate. That being said, don't be fooled into traveling to Sam's to get the best gas prices in town.
To top it off, I did go up there to gas up my truck today and I also wanted to grab me a Nathan's Hot Dog and a Soda but no sooner did I get to the register to order they took one look at me and said, Uh, Oh, who's gonna tell him. They were completely SOLD OUT of Nathan's Hot Dogs and couldn't figure out why they had sold so many over the weekend. DUH!
The next time you people go in there and slam them with a bunch of business, be kind enough to say, no thanks, leave that last Nathan's Hot Dog for Joe. PIGS!

13 Things To Know About Daylight Saving Time
Americans will set their clocks ahead by an hour this weekend, as daylight saving time begins Sunday. "Springing forward" creates another hour of sunlight in the evening. It also has some effects on health and public safety that many people are unaware of. Interesting facts about daylight saving time include:
1. Officially, it's "daylight saving time," not "daylight savings time." But don't feel bad if you thought there was a final "s" on "saving"; far more people Google the incorrect phrase than the correct one.
2. Daylight saving time has mixed effects on people's health. Transitions into and out of DST can disturb people's sleeping patterns, for example, and make them more restless at night. Night owls tend to be more bothered by the time changes than people who like mornings, Finnish researchers concluded last year.
3. There's a spike in heart attacks during the first week of daylight saving time, according to another study published last year. The loss of an hour's sleep may make people more susceptible to an attack, some experts say. When daylight saving time ends in the fall, heart attacks briefly become less frequent than usual.
4. People are safer drivers during daylight hours, and researchers have found that DST reduces lethal car crashes and pedestrian strikes. In fact, a study concluded that observing DST year-round would annually prevent about 195 deaths of motor vehicle occupants and about 171 pedestrian fatalities.
5. A U.S. law signed by President George W. Bush in 2005 extended the length of daylight saving time by four weeks. It now begins at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March. It ends on the first Sunday in November.
6. Also in 2005, Kazakhstan abolished daylight saving time, citing negative health effects. The country's government reportedly calculated that 51.6 percent of Kazakhs responded badly to the time change.
7. Many other countries observe daylight saving time, but not all do so on the same day. That can create confusion for international travelers, business communications, and more.
8. Daylight saving can also cause confusion close to home. In March 2007, a Pennsylvania honor student was mistakenly accused of threatening his school with a bomb. He had actually called an automated line to get info about scheduled classes. Someone else made the bomb threat an hour later.
9. Two states--Arizona and Hawaii--and three U.S. territories--American Samoa, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands--don't observe daylight saving time. Indiana adopted DST in 2006.
10. Local time determines when DST begins, so America's eastern time zone makes the switch before the rest of the country. This Sunday, cities like New York and Atlanta will be two hours ahead of the central time zone, instead of the usual one-hour difference, from 3 a.m. to 3:59 a.m. EDT. New York City will be four hours ahead of Los Angeles--instead of the usual three--from 3 a.m. to 5:59 a.m. EDT.
11. Daylight saving time was first used during World War I, as part of an effort in the United States and other warring countries to conserve fuel. In theory, using daylight more efficiently saves fuel and energy because it reduces the nation's need for artificial light.
12. The first American to advocate for daylight saving was Benjamin Franklin. He realized in 1784 that many people burned candles at night yet slept past dawn in the summer, wasting early-morning sunlight.
13. The effect of DST on energy use has changed over time and varies from place to place. Experts even disagree on whether DST still saves the nation energy. But so many people like to "spring forward" that it might be hard for officials to end the tradition, even if they determined it's wasteful.

Brooke Mulford Is The Biggest Celebrity The Eastern Shore Has Ever Seen!
Allow me to start this Post off by thanking Leighton Moore, (Owner of Seacrets) for allowing the Mulford Family such a Grand Facility, (Marley Hall) to Host such a Fundraiser.
I'd like to thank ALL of the people who attended this event as well as those who contributed in so many different ways. The volunteers who put this whole thing together, sat at tables registering people to get in, selling Tee Shirts/Sweat Shirts and ALL of the people who advertised this event to make it such a huge success. No, this wasn't my party to be the one giving thanks, I just felt these people needed to be recognized because they're behind the scenes and putting off such an event with such a grand success was very impressive.
I have been told there were more than 800 tickets sold and as you can see from the photos above, that main entertainment room at Seacrets was absolutely packed. Little Brooke would have been blown away if only she could be there in person. However, I hope these photos reach her and she sees for herself just how big a Celebrity she has become.
To the Mulford Family, you are ALL in our thoughts and prayers daily and I'm so grateful the prayers are working. I sat in a chair watching the slide show on the Plasma TV's and I have to be honest with you, it took everything in my powers not to start crying in front of a thousand people. A healthy child's life is so precious but to have a child going through such difficult times, I just don't know how you do it every day.
That being said Folks, give your kids a big hug and let them know just how special they are each and every day. Educate them on children like Brooke and teach them to give their support every opportunity they can because life can sometimes shock us with the unexpected and even as adults we all of a sudden have to swallow pride like we've never experienced before and drop everything we had just to come to the rescue of a priceless life.
Brooke is not the only child locally going through these difficult times and as I stated in the beginning of this year on this Blog, this year is about Giving Back. It's about never forgetting where we came from. It's about giving back to those less fortunate and I can't say enough about this Eastern Shore and just how wonderful ALL of you are by supporting such events.
We've seen the Salvation Army come back strong. We've watched the Wicomico Humane Society actually running out of animals. We've watched Women Supporting Women fight Breast Cancer like we've never seen before. Now we're watching Fundraisers for Brooke Mulford and other local children experience huge success because of YOU!
So Thank You for all of that support and I'm convinced together we're going to make the Eastern Shore a place many will want to live and be a part of because we give back like no other place on earth.
Brooke, YOU'VE BEEN BLOGGED! :-D
Thank You Sheriff Lewis

Joe,
Sometimes, I don’t even know why I write or why I get involved on things that I may regret later on, but that is life for me. I always express my mind the way I think for the moment. That causes me troubles sometimes, but at the end, I am happy because I used one of the greatest gifts this great country founders gave us: the freedom of speech.
Anyway, I just wanted to share with you and your readers about my daughter who is four years old. Her name is Emily and she loves books. If someone comes and reads her a story that one becomes her best friend. My wife and I try to read her as many stories as we can, but she always wants more.
This past Saturday my wife took Emily to the Wicomico Library for a reading presentation where Sheriff Lewis was one of the readers. My daughter was grumpy at the Sheriff when he greeted her (that is her personality when she first meets strangers). He called her “princess” but she just gave him a dirty look.. Yet, when she came home, she told me that she had a new best friend and he was policeman. she said “the police read me a story”. I asked my wife and she told me about their experience with the Sheriff. I wish all law enforcement officers would take time to read to children just like Sheriff Lewis did this weekend. Many people from all social background would have a different opinion about them. I respect the police no matter what jurisdiction they serve, but I respect them more when they spend time with our kids.
Thanks Sheriff Lewis for doing a great Job. On behalf of my daughter I say MUCHAS GRACIAS, keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Justiniano León, Jr.

THIS IS SALISBURY’S BIGGEST WEEK IN YEARS
Extreme weather and a momentous primary election have coincided in what is the most significant week for Salisbury in the new Century. Jim Ireton beat the Tilghman-Comegys political machine run by landlords and developers, and Bubba is so close to total defeat that Richard Insley must be in meltdown mode until next Monday, at least.
Shanie Shields is now trailing Cynthia Polk, who should be supported in the general election by many, probably most, of those who voted for Tim Chaney on Tuesday. It just don’t get much better than this, despite Tim not surviving the primary, unless Bob Caldwell bumps Bubba out of the box when the rest of the ballots are counted next week.
There’s that and much more to come before Salisbury residents vote again on April 7 – and it all will be covered on this blog.

MATHIAS AND CONWAY SPONSOR LIQUOR LEGISLATION FOR WORCESTER
Folks, the ink is so wet on the latest sponsored legislation - House Bill 1522 - that details on the exact language is not even available to the general public.
Just a couple of years ago Liquor legislation was sponsored for Worcester County whereby their borrowing authority was increased from 1 million to 3 million dollars. Then it was increased again in 2005 from 3 million to 5 million - HB 91. Now, once again, for a - third time in just a short period - our elected Delegates are proposing to increase the Liquor borrowing authority by another 5 million dollars to 6 million dollars. The last time it was raised in Worcester County the Liquor Control Board bought one of the largest warehouse facilities available in the entire County, former Pilchard Bros.
What population could possibly warrant such a massive influx of alcohol? And I thought Wicomico's Liquor Borrowing Authority was high at $1 million dollars. All I can say is that I hope there is someone on the Worcester County Commissioners who is also requesting emergency funding for additional AA branches and 12 step program funding.
For those of you who haven't realized what Worcester's primary industry is . . . it's not tourism . . . . it's more like its newly found wealth in alcohol.

Show Me A Landlord With A Heart Of Gold?
I am issuing this challenge to any decent landlord if there is one out there in the Salisbury area. My grandson lives on life support. The parents living room looks like a hospital room because of all of the medical equipment. They are in a very small, one bedroom apartment. They need a bigger place with at least two bedrooms. They are eligible for night time nurses there so they can at least sleep. The nurse gets there early and with the crib, medical equipment and the baby and 3 adults, counting the nurse, you can hardly move around. This is the most important part of my challenge. They have to have a place free of mold, lead paint, rodents, AND in a safe neighborhood. The medical equipment alone is worth thousands and with the crime rate like it is, I would not put it past a thug to try and steal it if they thought they could sell it. Also, their income is basically the baby's disability right now so the rent can't take all of it so they can have money left over for other bills. Son-in-law works as often as he can. Daughter can't find a job even with a wealth of banking and billing background. Both can work full time and then be eligible for daytime nurses. But first, they need a better place to live.
Then maybe they can find better jobs. Then they can get a good vehicle. Theirs can't make the numerous trips to John's Hopkins.
So..step up and show me that there are some landlords who are willing to help this family and not do it for the money.
Thank you,
Cindy

This Is The Salisbury I Miss
Joe, the is the Salisbury of old before all the bickering and dissension that now prevails.
Do you remember?
Do you remember swimming in the park? The Christmas parades on Main Street and the old swag lights that hung across Main Street and Route 13? You knew Christmas was getting close when White & Leonard's opened its toy store on the second floor Johnny's and Sammy's on Wednesday nights for chicken and dumplings and Gino's on Friday nights after Wi-Hi football games.
Then there was "Party Line" on the radio with Bill Phillips, and the great dj of country music, CR Hook at WICO -- and of course there was Jolly Jack during the WBOC news with John B. Greenberger and Roland Twigg reminding us to "tell 'em RT sent you.".
The S & H Green Stamp store was down by Carroll's. Use to get good prizes for collecting these stamps from grocery stores. Giant used to be more than just groceries. You also got your groceries from the Colonial Store on South Salisbury Boulevard
Remember the Wicomico Theater, the Boulevard Theater or the the Oaks Drive-In?
People would go to downtown Salisbury to Benjamin's or Hess Apparel or The Fashion Shop. Salespeople were friendly, mature and knowledgeable. And we actually dressed up for it. Hungry? There was also the Saddle Club or either go downstairs to Reads Drugstore lunchroom on your way out the back door to the parking lot or sit at the lunch counter in Woolworths. Read's Drug Store was the only place to pass through when other stores closed at 5 p.m. on Saturdays on the way to the new parking lot. Woolworth's had the long counter upstairs. Remember kids popping the balloons at the Woolworth's counter to see the discount? McCrorys on Rt 13 also had a lunch counter but they had a deal where if you ordered a banana split you could pick a balloon to see how much you paid for it. They said there was a balloon with a penny. As for the Benjamin family. They made sure that customers were treated with respect. That is what customer service was all about. Stores like that just don't exist anymore.
Does anyone remember how Watson's Smoke House stamped the date on a record when you bought it? Watson Smoke House was cool for not only 5 cent cigars but for the latest 45 record. An older gentleman by the name of Howard Riggins ran it, and was so very nice to kids. He would let you listen to recordings he had for sale, knowing we probably didn't have money to buy one. There was a soda fountain in the store, as well as a very hip magazine rack. We would often read it standing there. He never bothered us about reading and not buying, and whenever we had some money, we really would buy the magazine -- and even an album once in a while.
Do you want fresh vegitables? Go to any farmers stand and buying whatever was fresh-picked that day, and putting the right money in a mason jar.
Remember Polar Bar ice cream?, It tasted like home made.
What I really miss about the old Salisbury is being able to go places without being accosted by thugs. And feeling safe . . . and a sense of class in the businesses.
Salisbury was one of the last small towns (at the time) where everything would be closed on Sundays. No shopping or anything. It was sorta like they forced you to take a deserved day off.

The Rest Of The Story
Remember when the economic crisis hit and the giant investment banking firm of Bear Sterns filed for bankruptcy? The company asked for financial assistance from the government but
Congress decided (wisely) that private businesses make their own decisions and should be held accountable for them. Consequently, Bear Sterns went out of business..
Then several months later AIG, the h u g e insurance company, announced it too was in financial difficulty. Congress did a 180-turn in their philosophy and provided bailout money for AIG Why the change of heart? Was it out of concern for the tens of thousands of citizens who might loose money? Or perhaps Congress was suddenly concerned for the economy as a whole. Well, it was nothing that complicated.

Underwear Is Important
Always wear clean underwear in public, especially when working under your vehicle... From the Northwest Florida Daily News
This is a story of a Crestview couple who drove their car to Wal-Mart, only to have their car break down in the parking lot. The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car in the lot. The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car.
On closer inspection, she saw a pair of male legs protruding from under the chassis. Although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned private parts into glaringly public ones.
Unable to stand the embarrassment, she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand UP his shorts, and tucked everything back into place. On regaining her feet, she looked across the hood and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by. The mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his forehead.

Spot Crime Alerts
All –
I now receive free SpotCrime alerts each day that provide me with a list of crimes that have been reported in the city within a 2 mile radius of my house. I find it a very useful tool in assessing what’s going on and also in thinking about how to safeguard myself, my family and my home. It gives me a better sense of what to be on the lookout for so that I can notify the police of suspicious activities. I encourage you to visit SpotCrime.com and look at the map for Salisbury and think about signing up for the free alerts. SpotCrime is a mapping service provided free of charge to the City of Salisbury as a result of the work of the subcommittee that I work with as part of the Crime Task Force. I don’t want to fill people’s in-boxes up, so I won’t continue to send them, but wanted to give you a look and let you know that this is a resource.
Thanks.

Thanks.
