Ravens Rally, Avoid Embarrassing Loss To Cardinals

Rice runs for 3 TDs, Cundiff boots game-winning FG as time expires in 30-27 win

BALTIMORE - Before launching the biggest comeback victory in the history of the Baltimore Ravens, Joe Flacco first had to withstand the indignity of being booed by his usually supportive hometown fans.

Flacco didn't care for the treatment, although he could appreciate the sentiment. And it didn't prevent him from carrying the Ravens past the Arizona Cardinals 30-27 Sunday.

Billy Cundiff kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired, Ray Rice scored a career-high three touchdowns, and Flacco fueled the comeback with a gritty display of leadership and precise passing.

Registered Sex Offenders Told To Keep Porch Lights Off On Halloween

WASHINGTON -- Your little ghost or goblin will be safer trick-or-treating this year -- especially if they pay close attention to which houses they visit.

That's because of "Operation Porch Lights Out," an effort in several local counties that mandates registered sex offenders -- either on probation or parole -- keep their porch lights out and not hand out candy.

"I think it's a good thing," says Dale City resident Diane Nesmeyer. "The kids do stay away from the houses that don't have the porch light on."

‘No Candy' Signs On Halloween In Frederick County

Daphne Gabb says parents are children's first line of defense when it comes to trick-or-treating safety on Halloween. As PTA Council president for Frederick County, Gabb takes community relationships seriously and she said families should know the people on the other side of the door when children start knocking on Monday.

Maryland's online registry currently lists more than 100 registered sex offenders in the county.

"You need to be aware of who is around you and you need to know who your kids are around," Gabb said.
She has never seen one, but Gabb says it's important for parents to be mindful of signs posted on sex offenders' doors, warning them not to ask for candy on Halloween.

"I think it's a good idea for people to know who's been convicted for sexual offenses," Gabb said.

Each year an initiative put in place by the state Division of Parole and Probation asks sex offenders to post a sign reading "No Candy" on their doors to inform parents and trick-or-treaters

Communities Struggle With Representation On School Boards

No easy answers, no hard data on elected vs. appointed panels

When temperatures in the classrooms of Ridgely Middle School reached the high 90s, Julie Sugar and other parents invited Baltimore County school board members to check out the problem. The board members didn't come — but local lawmakers did.

"That's when we realized that our school board was not responsive or accountable to the public," said Sugar, who once headed the middle school's PTA and is now president of the Loch Raven High School PTA. "And it made us realize that they did not have to be responsive or accountable to the public because the public didn't put them on the school board."

In Wicomico County, where the board is appointed, County Council members recently voted to put a non-binding referendum on next year's ballot, asking voters whether the board should be elected or appointed. State lawmakers must approve changes to a school board's makeup.

Proponents of elected boards say they offer accountability because voters can potentially oust those they don't like. They also argue that they are more connected to their communities because anyone could run for the seats — members wouldn't need to be political insiders with connections to whoever is making appointments

Don’t Be Surprised If Obama Wins In 2012

Don’t hate me. I’m only the messenger of the bad news. With the economy as bad as it is, President Obama’s approval rating is over 40 percent.  The comments of Bill Daley, the current White House Chief of Staff, are telling:
“Considering the debacle that he came in with, the tough choices he’s made and how there have been few, if any breaks, he says it himself all the time. [The President] doesn’t know why he’s as high as 44 percent.”
This is bad news for the GOP. Every bright sign in the economy is touted by the press as an Obama accomplishment. George Stephanopoulos is a perfect example. When the market jumped more than 300 points on Thursday, Boy George could not contain himself. He let out a sigh of relief as if to say, “This gets Obama off the hook for 2012.” When the market drops, bad economic numbers are released, and unemployment numbers don’t budge, the media make excuses for the president. “The hurricane contributed to the downturn. . . The Japanese earthquake has to be factored into the equation. . . It was Bush’s fault.”
The media are propping up the president and attacking every Republican they can. The attack on Marco Rubio is a perfect example. The Washington Post is attacking the junior senator from Florida for “misrepresenting” his family’s story. There was almost no vetting of Obama by the press, but Rubio is fair game. Liberals fear Rubio as a vice presidential candidate, so they must destroy him before he even considers the position. That’s the way liberals play the game. It’s only going to get worse.
Obama and Co. are blaming the Republican “Do Nothing” Congress. Like the “it’s Bush’s fault” refrain, they are adding it’s the fault of the Republican Congress. Most voters don’t know that the Senate is controlled by Democrats, and it was Democrats who scuttled the President’s “jobs bill.”
To show that he’s a rough and tumble leader ready to take on the obstructionists, Obama is issuing a series of unconstitutional Executive Orders. Did you hear the applause when he announced that he would restructure the college loan repayment program? He’ll do more of this to shore up his base of those who believe government should be the savior of the people.
The Republican presidential field does not inspire enough people. Paul and Cain have their loyal supporters but I don’t think it’s enough. Talk is in the air about a third-party run. Paul has not dismissed the idea. A third-party run on the Republican side would be a disaster. It’s about electoral votes, getting on the ballot of all 50 states, and a whole lot more that a third-party candidate has to think about. Ross Perot had millions of dollars behind his third-party bid. He didn’t get a single electoral vote.
Perry looked good on paper but he stumbled coming out of the gate, and I’m not sure he can recover. Romney is the pick of the establishment. It’s almost a fait accompli that he’ll be the nominee. He doesn’t generate any excitement among the conservative base of the Republican Party. He’s not as bad as Dole and McCain, but he’s close. He supported Roe v. Wade, the assault weapons ban, the Brady Bill, and believes in manmade global warming. Then there’s Obamacare that was modeled after RomneyCare which has proved to be a disaster for Massachusetts. I have to add Romney’s “Mormon problem.” Evangelicals have always been skittish about politics. Romney’s Mormon beliefs aren’t going to help.
Then there’s the Black vote. Obama will get more than 90 percent of it. The desperate economic news for Blacks will not move them to the Republicans. They will believe that Republicans, Wall Street, the big banks, and the rich are the problem. Obama has been trying to fight these Goliaths but the Republicans have removed the stones from his pouch and stolen his sling.
Talk about fixing the tax code does not help the Republicans since nearly 50 percent of Americans don’t pay any federal income tax. Cain’s 9-9-9 plan will mean that these non-tax payers will have to start paying taxes. They’re a sure vote for Obama in 2012. The same is true for a flat tax. Even the Fair Tax will have the non-taxpayers paying. Don’t get me wrong. The tax code needs to be changed.
Then there’s the weakness of the GOP leadership. They don’t know how to fight. They’re all about compromise. “Maybe if we play nice the Democrats and the media will like us.” Yeah, right. Mark Levin nails it:
“So if we have people at the head of the Republican party who are sabotaging the conservative agenda they need to be called out. And unfortunately I pointed out that the only way conservatives in the House are going to make progress is if there’s new Republican Leadership. John Boehner’s been around for over two decades; he’s not part of the conservative movement, he’s not part of the Tea Party movement. And even though he’s not part of those things he doesn’t respect them. He jawbones us.”
Republicans are slow learners.
The GOP is poor at rhetoric. Their explanations are long and complicated. Cain is good at getting to the point quickly. The rest of the GOP should take lessons. Please help to prove me wrong.

Top Court Upholds Revocation Of Child Sex Offender's Real Estate License

Agent fought to keep livelihood

Maryland's highest court has upheld a state panel's decision to strip a real estate agent of his professional license because he is a convicted child sex offender.

The Court of Appeals ruled Friday that the Real Estate Commission, which licenses and disciplines agents, acted within its bounds when it decided in 2008 that the convictions were a stain on the agent's character and spoke to his trustworthiness in dealing with the public.

The ruling affirmed the decision of two lower courts.

I was in the six item express lane at the store quietly fuming. Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into the check-out line pushing a cart piled high with groceries. Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly, 'So which six items would you like to buy?'

Wouldn't it be great if that happened more often?

The man then pleaded, 'I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning me,

The Rabbi then offered, 'Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll let you know.'

The man said yes and the Rabbi replied, 'Take the poison.'

Michelle O's $800,000 Entitlement?

It's evident by now Mrs. Obama will not yield to public opinion regarding her profligate globe-hopping.
Michelle's week-long junket to South Africa cost taxpayers nearly $800,000 according to an analysis by White House Dossier. The trip ended at a five-star hotel in the middle of a game preserve where rooms exceed $10,000 dollars per night. Michelle was accompanied by her daughters, brother Craig's kids and granny who all enjoyed the "luxurious suites" and "one of the world's finest art collections" at the Mateya.

The cost of local transportation, Secret Service protection, food for her family and staff members, and the cost of firing up "Air Force Two" not to mention the pre-trip preparations all contributed to the final amounts.

Mrs. Obama's goodwill tour was supposed to "help youth leadership, health, education and wellness" in crime-ridden South Africa. The photos of her and the 'fam' showed them feeling "surreal" meeting Nelson Mandela, eating "fat cakes," dancing and going on safari. A U.S. Embassy spokeswoman "made clear that the trip was partially a personal pilgrimage for the first lady."

A visit to South Africa is important for them as a family. She'll be visiting many Struggle-era landmarks, including the Apartheid Museum (and) the Hector Pieterson Memorial.

Warren Buffet Speaks Out!

Warren Buffett, in a recent  interview with CNBC, offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling:"I could  end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a  law that says that anytime there is a deficit of more than 3% of  GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election.  The 26th
amendment (granting the  right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days  to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.  Of  the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or  less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*

1. No Tenure / No Pension.  A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2.  Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.  All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote  themselves a pay raise.  Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time.

AUTOPSY RULES STATE HOSPITAL PATIENT DEATH A HOMICIDE

(BALTIMORE, MD) – An autopsy has confirmed that a state hospital patient’s death last night in Howard County was the result of a homicide.

An autopsy was conducted today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore on the body of Rogelio Mondragon, 40.  Mondragon was found unresponsive by staff in his room at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital in Jessup, Md. last night.

The autopsy determined the manner of Mondragon’s death was homicide and the cause was multiple blunt force injuries.  The autopsy showed the victim sustained injuries to his face and neck which included severe trauma to his larynx.

State Police have charged Andre Mayo, 46, another patient at the hospital, with the murder of Mondragon.  Mayo remains in the custody of the Howard County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

STATE POLICE CHARGE PATIENT WITH MURDER AT STATE HOSPITAL

(JESSUP, MD) -- Maryland State Police have charged a state hospital patient in connection with the murder of a fellow patient at the hospital last night.

The victim is identified as Rogelio Mondragon, 40, who was a patient at the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, in Jessup, Md.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  His body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

The accused is identified as Andre Mayo, 46, who is also a patient at the hospital.  After consultation with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, Maryland State Police homicide investigators have charged Mayo with first and second degree murder.  He was taken to the Howard County Detention Center for his initial appearance before a court commissioner.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the Waterloo Barrack were requested to respond to the Clifton T. Perkins Hospital by staff.  Responding troopers secured the area where the victim was found.  Troopers noted there was evidence on the victim’s hands and face that indicated he may have been in a fight. They requested that investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit respond to investigate further.

The preliminary investigation by the State Police Homicide Unit indicates that shortly after 6:30 p.m. yesterday, hospital staff were conducting their regular rounds to check on patients.  They found the victim lying unresponsive on the floor of his room.  Immediate emergency care was provided by hospital staff and Howard County emergency medical services were requested through 911.  Paramedics responded to the scene, but the victim was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.

While hospital staff were subsequently moving patients off the floor for the investigation, the accused approached a security staff member and provided information to the staff member about the assault on the victim.  During a review of video surveillance from the floor where the incident occurred, investigators saw the accused enter the victim’s room on two occasions within a half hour.  The victim was alone in the room both times Mayo is observed entering.

State Police investigators from the Homicide Unit and the Waterloo Barrack were at the hospital throughout the night conducting interviews and reviewing evidence.  Maryland State Police crime scene technicians responded and processed the scene and collected evidence.

A motive for the homicide has not been clearly established at this time.  Investigators hope to learn more about the victim’s cause and manner of death following the autopsy.  The investigation is continuing.

White House Orders Review Of Energy Department Loans To Avoid Solyndra Subpoena And Exercising "Executive Privilege

The Solyndra-gate scandal, which the GOP realizes has the potential to shake the Obama administration to the very top, refuses to go away. Earlier today AP reported [5]that to a republican Subpoena demanding all documents instead of just those selectively produced, "could trigger a claim of executive privilege by the Obama administration and elevate the political stakes. The loan is being investigated by two House committees, which have released Solyndra-related documents from federal agencies including the Energy and Treasury departments and the Office of Management and Budget." The White House has refused a request by the House Energy and Commerce Committee for all internal White House communications about Solyndra. White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler said the committee leaders' request has implications for "long-standing and significant institutional executive branch confidentiality interests." Naturally: it would be a big hit to the presidency's interests if it was uncovered that crony capitalist vigilante #1 [6] himself is more than willing to distributed taxpayer capital to the highest bidder. So instead the The White House is ordering a review of loan guarantees made by the Energy Department after a California solar company that got a half-billion-dollar federal loan went bankrupt. There are more than two dozen of these to a variety of clean energy companies." And here is where the latest joke from this president jumps the shark: "[White House chief of staff] Daley said he's tapping a former Treasury official to conduct the review." A former Treasury official... of the Obama administration?

To paraphrase Erin Burnett, "Seriously?"

At least in Europe they assume the audience is somewhat sophisticated before they baffle them with endless bullshit and non-news after non-news.

Here, they skip that key assumption completely.
