Wicomico Board of Education, Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money!

As usual the BOE packed the County Council chambers begging for more money, $7.5 million. We've already watched them go out and lease, (extremely long term) space for their main offices from one of the "Good Ol' Boys" in the millions. Then there was the "Gift Cards" SBYNews exclusively exposed while the rest of the local media ignored their Hooters spending, "for the children".

More importantly, Ladies & Gentlemen, this is nothing short of a political show, year after year. When I saw that interview of the President of Veteran Builders saying he and his Wife don't believe their children can get a proper education here. I thought, what an Idiot! They set their roots here, had children and NOW out of nowhere another Good Ol' Boy gets interviewed attacking anyone who doesn't feed them what they want.

I ask all of you, did you see any of us NORMAL people being interviewed on WBOC or WMDT saying, tough sh!t, we don't have the funding and we've done quite enough for the irresponsible BOE.

Finally, the funds just aren't there, especially $7.5 million and they know it and knew it well before that circus last night. The County Council and Executive are NOT interested in raising taxes just to fulfill this ridiculous request. Taxpayers are fully funding the BOE and you need to understand that YOU elected a different kind of leadership in which, (for example) Pollitt regularly went well above and beyond maintenance of effort and it cost the taxpayers dearly. Let's also not forget, this Council and Executive have in fact given the BOE all of the new school requests in order to BETTER educate our children. Where's the media on that topic?

No Sound Zone For Rt. 13 In Salisbury

One has to wonder, what will happen when and if you have a concert at the new amphitheater and there's a fire, or a need for an ambulance and they get stuck at the light? Then there's the typical daily traffic with loud eastern shore trucks and of course the hip hop, BOOM, BOOM speakers. Yeah, this was a great spot to host concerts. Too funny!

I Can't Believe Julie Brewington Is Still Running For County Council

This is exactly what's wrong with politics today. Break laws, get found GUILTY and then continue to run for a political position as if nothing ever happened.

What's even worse is how Julie Brewington is in such denial. She LIED to the Central Committee by claiming she was not drunk. She went on Facebook in complete denial, passing blame off to law enforcement, as if she was set up. She then claimed she was never in an accident. I know for a fact she drove right into a major ditch and had to climb out a window to get out of her car.

The above image was just taken yesterday whereas Julie is openly running for office. This woman should be ashamed. She might have had a chance before her DUI arrest against John Cannon but at this point she will, (once again) lose miserably because she's a LIAR. The voting public will not tolerate it.

This may work for LIBERALS but conservatives will not have anything to do with liars. Julie screwed her party once again. She has no shame.

The road to the Eastern Shore has a new lane, and one less awful bottleneck

Maryland has completed construction of a fourth lane on Route 50 eastbound over the Severn River Bridge, providing what officials expect will be congestion relief especially during the busy summer months.

Gov. Larry Hogan cut the ribbon on the new lane Monday, a month ahead of schedule, he said in a tweet, adding, “For far too long, Rt 50 at the Severn River Bridge has been a serious bottleneck that was a constant headache for many MDers.”

The $22.8 million project involved the shift of an existing median barrier and restriping the roadway between Rowe Boulevard and the state Route 450-Route 2 interchange. The bridge now offers four lanes eastbound and three westbound. The width of the lanes has been reduced from 12 to 11 feet.

Crab crisis: Maryland seafood industry loses 40 percent of work force in visa lottery

Maryland's seafood industry is in crisis: Nearly half of the Eastern Shore’s crab houses have no workers to pick the meat sold in restaurants and supermarkets.

They failed to get visas for their mostly Mexican work force, including many women who have been coming north to Maryland for crab season for as long as two decades. The Trump administration for the first time awarded them this year in a lottery, instead of on a first-come, first-served basis.

“This is going to cause the price of crab meat to go out of sight,” said Harry Phillips, owner of Russell Hall Seafood on Hooper’s Island. “There’s not going to be hardly any Maryland crab meat.

“It looks like it’s a matter of time before they’re going to shut all of us down.”

Boy Scouts Will Change Program Name to ‘Scouts BSA’

Boy Scouts of America announced on Wednesday it will be changing the name of its flagship program, the Boy Scouts, to ‘Scouts BSA.'

The name change announcement comes after the 108 year old organization unveiled in October 2017 that it would allow girls to join, the Associated Press reports.

"We wanted to land on something that evokes the past but also conveys the inclusive nature of the program going forward," Chief Scout Executive Mike Surbaugh said about the new changes. "We’re trying to find the right way to say we’re here for both young men and young women."

Family blames youth football for tragic death of boy in California

A family is blaming youth football for the death of a 13-year-old boy who committed suicide a year after a particularly hard tackle.

In September 2015, James Ransom was playing offensive lineman for his middle school football team in Ladera Ranch, California, when his helmet collided with that of a boy from the opposing team.

It wasn't until after the game that his father, Greg, noticed dried blood around his son's ear. James didn't complain about the incident and moved on.

But his family said his personality changed following that hit.

James suffered from short-term memory loss, mood swings, and erratic obsessive behavior, Greg told the Orange County Register.

The younG boy attempted suicide three months after the hit and spent months in a mental institution. Then, in November 2016, he took his own life.

'People love football [but] football killed my son,' he told the newspaper. 'I'll say it again. Football killed my son.'

WBOC Refuses To Mention Bike Week

In years past, all local media sources would be kind enough to bring up Bike Week. More importantly they'd regularly ask their viewers to LOOK TWICE and be very careful as thousands of bikers will be here on the shore. I wonder what changed???

Amid crab industry labor shortage, Maryland Rep. Harris says approval of 15,000 guest worker visas 'imminent'

Federal immigration officials have agreed to approve 15,000 new guest worker visas for seasonal work, including in a Maryland crab industry grappling with a significant labor shortage, U.S. Rep. Andy Harris said Thursday.

U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services would not confirm any changes to its H-2B visa program, which brings 66,000 immigrants to the country for work that employers can show they are unable to hire Americans to do.

But Maryland’s lone Republican congressman said the expected approval was imminent, and that he is working with President Donald Trump’s administration to find a way to raise the cap on the visas or to allow Maryland seafood businesses to employ workers through a different visa program.

Resort Task Force To Examine Paid Parking Expansion

OCEAN CITY — With an eye on tapping potential unrealized revenue, Ocean City officials this week voted to form a task force to begin exploring an expansion of paid parking in certain areas around the resort.

During budget deliberations, the Mayor and Council directed staff to do an analysis of expanding metered parking on the public streets in the ocean block from 11th to 33rd streets. City Engineer and resident parking guru Terry McGean then analyzed the potential revenue and the estimated cost of expanding metered parking in that 22-block section of essentially upper downtown.

McGean estimated there were 444 potential metered spaces in the section of ocean block from 11th Street to 33rd Street. The estimated annual revenue from each of those spaces ranged from $2,500 on the high side to around $1,250 on the low side. Similarly, the percentage of residential parking spaces in that 22-block section ranged from a high of 75 percent to zero percent in some cases.

MSP PREPARE FOR INCREASED PATROLS FOR CINCO DE MAYO

(PIKESVILLE, Md.) —As Cinco de Mayo approaches on Saturday, Maryland State Police are urging those who plan to celebrate with alcohol to be safe and smart and avoid impaired and distracted driving.

With an increase in impaired drivers expected throughout the state this weekend, state police will be conducting saturation patrols at each of the 23 barracks focusing on impaired, aggressive and distracted driving. Enforcement this weekend will be bolstered by impaired driving saturation patrol funds from the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Office.

Initiatives will include saturation patrols in areas known to have a higher number of DUI crashes or arrests and sobriety checkpoints, which are also conducted in locations where experience indicates they are most appropriate. Additional troopers will be assigned as needed. From May 5-7, 2017, troopers made 101 DUI arrests, 69 criminal arrests and 17 controlled dangerous substance arrests while also issuing 553 speeding citations, 82 seatbelt citations and 1,792 citations for other violations.

Kanye West: Obama Was ‘Opioids’ to the Black Community

Rap Superstar Kanye West described former President Barack Obama as the “opioids” of the black community, during an interview with TMZ’s Harvey Levin on Tuesday.

“Obama was our opioids. It made us feel like everything was good,” he said during the interview.

Kanye West said Obama was held in such a high regard that it alienated himself from the lower class.

“The class war is one of the reasons why Trump won, because Obama was so high class that it stopped speaking to the middle and the lower class,” he said. “He’s so classy, and to break the class system, we have to start by loving ourselves.”

Baltimore County eliminates unhealthy options from government building vending machines

BALTIMORE —An executive order mandated vending machines in all Baltimore County government buildings can only offer healthy choices.

"Today, we're going to be eliminating the temptation of poor choices in vending machines," said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.

"We're looking for healthy foods that are lower in calories, lower in fat, lower in carbs and salt and sugars," said Gregory Branch, Baltimore County health officer.

Gone are the candy, fried foods and sugary sodas, replaced by things like baked chips, granola bars and bottled water. In county buildings, mostly employees and other adults are affected by the change.

Somerset County Homicide Under Investigation

(PRINCESS ANNE, MD) – A search is underway for a suspect as Maryland State Police continue their investigation into the murder of a Somerset County man who was shot early this morning in Princess Anne, Md.

The victim is identified as Earl Thomas Marshall, 3rd, 32, of the 12,000-block of Chestnut Circle in Princess Anne, Md. EMS personnel pronounced Marshall deceased at the scene. His body has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. this morning, officers from the Princess Anne Police Department responded to 911 calls reporting shots fired at a residence in the 12,000 block of Chestnut Circle. Responding officers found the front door of the home open and the victim lying just inside the door with an apparent gunshot wound.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was requested to respond and take the lead on this investigation. Additional assistance is being provided by State Police Criminal Enforcement Division investigators, as well as officers from the Princess Anne Police Department. State Police crime scene technicians processed the shooting scene. The Somerset County State’s Attorney also responded to the scene and assisted investigators throughout the night.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Marshall returned home after midnight last night. Ten minutes later, there was a knock at his door. Once Marshall opened the door, a confrontation occurred between Marshall and the suspect. Moments later, the shooting occurred and the suspect, believed to be a man in dark clothing, fled the scene. Police have not yet determined the motive in this case.

Investigators have been interviewing witnesses and residents in the area throughout the day. Crime scene evidence has been transported to the State Police Forensic Sciences Division crime laboratory for analysis.

Anyone with information about the murder is urged to contact Crime Solvers of the Lower Eastern Shore at 410-548-1776. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered to anyone with information that leads to the apprehension of the individual responsible for the murder of Earl Thomas Marshall, 3rd. Callers may remain anonymous.

Dick’s Sporting Goods Hires Gun Control Lobbyists

Dick's Sporting Goods has hired three lobbyists to push Congress for gun control measures, according to federal records.

Records show Dick's had hired two Democrats and one Republican from the Washington-based public affairs firm Glover Park Group, The Federalist reported. The only specific lobbying issue listed on the form for their work was "lobbying related to gun control."

Their effective registration date for the lobbyists' work was April 27:

The three lobbyists tapped by Dick’s to push for gun control are listed by name in the federal disclosure forms, which are required by the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 to be filed quarterly: Joel Johnson, who worked for both President Bill Clinton and Senate Democrat leadership; Andrew King, who worked for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.); and Christina Brown, a former staffer for Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.).

Cable prices have been too damn high for nearly 20 years

Cable TV is undeniably expensive. With the average bundle sitting around $105, it costs substantially more than a cell plan and some people’s electricity. But it hasn’t always been this way: According to a new report from Kagan, prices have increased by 74 percent since 2000, even when accounting for inflation.

Over the same period of time, average wages have remained stagnant, meaning that cable companies are asking people to pay nearly double what they were 20 years ago for TV that seems to have twice as many reboots. No wonder everyone’s cutting the cable.

A multichannel TV package cost $60 per month in 2000 (adjusted to 2017 dollars), but the same package has risen to nearly $100 right now. Meanwhile, median wages have remained flat over that time period. It’s easy to see where the money goes: gross revenue for cable and other pay TV companies has risen by a steady 5.5 percent per year over that time period.

Is The City of Salisbury Renting This Lot From Salisbury University?

I promised someone on Facebook I would no longer call Mayor Day and Idiot, so, Jake, are you renting this newly owned former tax paying property from the University to store these bikes.

If you look close enough you'll see there are a TON more of these bikes on that lot in the background.
