Congressman: Jewish Settlers Are Like Termites

PHILADELPHIA—A Democratic member of the House Armed Services Committee compared Jewish Israeli settlers to termites on Monday while speaking at an event sponsored by an anti-Israel organization that supports boycotts of the Jewish state.

Rep. Hank Johnson (D., Ga.) launched into a tirade against Israel and its policies toward the Palestinians, comparing Jewish people who live in disputed territories to “termites” that destroy homes. Johnson also compared Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, a remark that drew vocal agreement from those in the room.

“There has been a steady [stream], almost like termites can get into a residence and eat before you know that you’ve been eaten up and you fall in on yourself, there has been settlement activity that has marched forward with impunity and at an ever increasing rate to the point where it has become alarming,” Johnson said during an event sponsored by the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, an anti-Israel organization that galvanizes supporters of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement, or BDS.

Five Foreign-Born Cases of Multi-Drug Resistant TB Diagnosed in Philadelphia

At least five foreign-born cases of multi-drug resistant TB were diagnosed in Philadelphia over the past three years, according to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health Tuberculosis Control Program.

One case of the foreign-born ‘MDR’ TB was diagnosed in the city hosting this week’s Democratic National Convention in 2015, two were diagnosed in 2014, and at least two were diagnosed in 2013, though that number may be as high as three or four.

No U.S.-born cases of MDR TB were diagnosed in Philadelphia during these three years, according to the report.

Zero American Flags Seen at DNC Convention, Palestinian and Soviet Flags Raised Instead

If you watched the Democratic National Convention last night, you saw walls were built outside the event – as well as around the podium where people were speaking.

But Dems hate walls, I thought?

They’re only useful to keep away Bernie supporters, apparently.

Also, the American flag was noticeably absent.

However, Soviet flags and Palestinian flags were raised proudly.

Thanks, Obama.

Economic growth has stagnated under Obama

This week the Democrats officially coronate the battered Hillary Clinton as the torch bearer for the party. She has slouched to the finish line. She is tired and the country is tired of her. Sorry, Democrats, no do-overs. You’re stuck with her.

But it isn’t just Hillary who is out of touch and in tragic decline, it’s the whole Democratic Party. My friends at the American Enterprise Institute reported last week that the Democratic platform is silent on “economic growth.” Maybe that is because across the country during the past eight years of Obamanomics economic growth has been silent.

This is an exaggeration, of course, but not much of one. We have had 2 percent growth under President Obama, but that’s an economy treading water. It’s sister-kissing growth that, yes, has thankfully kept us out of recession, but doesn’t lead to much if any rise in living standards.

DNC ‘Interfaith’ Prayer Space Has No Sign Of Any Religion Except Islam

PHILADELPHIA — The Democratic National Convention has curtained off several “interfaith” spaces for prayer, but the only sign of religion in any of the spaces is Islam.

Convention goers looking to get in touch with the god of their choice can visit the “Interfaith Prayer Room” on the first floor of the Wells Fargo Center, which consists of a series of spaces sectioned off by curtains. A sign hangs over the first space, which is simply an empty room.

The second area has a few chairs and some prayer mats. A third large space is set up to accommodate Muslims, with a mat set up on the floor presumably facing Mecca and a sanitizing station so Muslims can wash before they pray.

Stocks Could Easily Fall 40% From Here

The US is in a recession.

Quarterly earnings by publicly traded corporations have fallen for SIX straight quarters. That covers a time of 18 months.

This has never happened outside of a recession.

Against this economic backdrop, stocks are in “la la land” rallying to new all-time highs.

The more earnings fall while stocks move higher, the BIGGER the bubble gets.

Stock bubbles are formed when stocks detach from fundamentals. By the look of things, this hit in 2015. And is has gotten significantly worse since then.

At current levels, the S&P 500 needs to fall almost 40% to catch up with earnings.

OCEAN CITY RESORT THRIVES WITH SUMMER TOURISM TRAFFIC

Francis Scott Key Family Resort is a sprawling family-friendly resort with 232 rooms, a mini-golf course, water park, diner and other exciting attractions. Family-owned and operated, the resort is currently run by Jim and Annemarie Dickerson—Annemarie’s father originally purchased the property in 1972. Back then, the expansive resort had only 60 rooms and was surrounded by corn fields in the underdeveloped part of West Ocean City, but there was great potential for growth and success.

The beauty of the resort is in the small details, like an old concrete stamp in the fireplace that details the original year of construction, and animal-shaped towels that are carefully constructed for younger guests to ensure a joyful end to the day. The amazing staff at the resort makes this sort of magic happen behind the scenes. Their dedication is what keeps the facility running so seamlessly, with many of them logging decades of employment with the resort.

“We couldn’t accomplish anything without them,” said owner Annemarie in regards to her exceptional team. The commitment and attentiveness of the staff drives the development of the resort.

Mario Armstrong, award-winning talk show host, convinced the family to change the name to Francis Scott Key Family Resort because it offered so much more than the average hotel experience. While FSK continues to expand with eight new vacation homes set to open next summer, the focus remains on preserving tradition and providing high-quality amenities.

Flashback: When the Clintons Loved Russia Enough to Sell Them Our Uranium

The Democrats’ newfound paranoia about Russian influence on American affairs was certainly nowhere to be found when Hillary Clinton was cheerfully selling them a huge chunk of America’s uranium stockpile, right after a Russian bank paid Bill Clinton $500,000 for a speech.

The Uranium One story is among the incidents detailed in Peter Schweizer’s Clinton Cash. A quick recap: Uranium One was originally a Canadian company, bought out by Russia’s state atomic energy agency, Rosatom.

Uranium One’s big shots were very, very generous donors to the Clinton Foundation, the “charity” through which so much foreign money flowed to Bill and Hillary Clinton. The New York Times reported in April 2015 about how those donations spiked as the deal for Rosatom to secure Uranium One and its holdings in the United States was brought to a successful conclusion, along with one of Bill Clinton’s biggest paydays ever:

Intel Experts: Putin's Goal is to Discredit American Political System

If the Russian government is behind the theft and release of embarrassing emails from the Democratic Party, as U.S. officials have suggested, it may reflect less a love of Donald Trump or enmity for Hillary Clinton than a desire to discredit the U.S. political system.

A U.S. official who is taking part in the investigation said that intelligence collected on the hacking of Democratic National Committee (DNC) emails released by Wikileaks on Friday "indicates beyond a reasonable doubt that it originated in Russia."

The timing on the eve of Clinton's formal nomination this week for the Nov. 8 presidential election has raised questions about whether Russia may have been trying to hurt her, to help Trump, her Republican rival, or to fan populist sentiment against establishment politicians as it has sought to do across Europe in recent years.

"Certainly Russia has become a master at manipulating information for their strategic goals: Witness the information bubble they have created for their threatening behavior in the Crimea, the Ukraine and elsewhere," said former CIA and National Security Agency director Michael Hayden. "A step like this, however, would be really upping their game."

The emails showed that DNC officials explored ways to undermine U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign against Clinton and raised questions about whether Sanders, who is Jewish, was really an atheist.

The disclosures confirmed Sanders' frequent charge that the party played favorites against him and clouded a party convention Clinton hoped would signal unity, not division.

Maryland officials prominent at Democratic convention start

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland officials were highly visible at the start of the Democratic National Convention on Monday, with prominent Democrats appearing on the stage and calling for unity in support for Hillary Clinton amid an embarrassing email scandal that was hanging over the convention’s first day.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake gaveled in the convention’s start, stepping in for outgoing Democratic Party chief Debbie Wasserman Schultz who abruptly canceled in the aftermath of an email scandal involving her aides. The Florida congresswoman is leaving her position after publication of emails suggesting the DNC favored Clinton over Bernie Sanders, when it had pledged to stay neutral.

Rep. Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 House Democrat and the convention’s parliamentarian, took the stage shortly after the convention opened in Philadelphia. He told the convention hall that “all of us must bind together for our country” and support Clinton.

MICHAEL JORDAN: ‘I CAN NO LONGER STAY SILENT’

As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well.

“I was raised by parents who taught me to love and respect people regardless of their race or background, so I am saddened and frustrated by the divisive rhetoric and racial tensions that seem to be getting worse as of late. I know this country is better than that, and I can no longer stay silent. We need to find solutions that ensure people of color receive fair and equal treatment AND that police officers – who put their lives on the line every day to protect us all – are respected and supported.

“Over the past three decades I have seen up close the dedication of the law enforcement officers who protect me and my family. I have the greatest respect for their sacrifice and service. I also recognize that for many people of color their experiences with law enforcement have been different than mine. I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change.

Latest News from Piedmont Airlines

Salisbury, MARYLAND - Piedmont Airlines is further expanding its fleet of Embraer 145 regional jets with accelerated deliveries of aircraft from American Airlines starting in early 2017.

“This is a vote of confidence from American and a goal we worked very hard to achieve,” said President and CEO Lyle Hogg. “American had previously committed 20 jets to Piedmont and we are pleased that our parent company will now continue to increase that number. The expanding fleet of jets puts Piedmont on an exciting path to the future, and that will lead to even more opportunities.”

Piedmont began operating the E145 regional jet in February, and has taken delivery of seven jets so far. All Piedmont jets will operate out of the American Airlines Philadelphia hub.

“We will greatly expand our operations in Philadelphia, including placing more crew members there,” said Hogg. Piedmont offers a $15,000 signing bonus to new hire pilots and plans to hire more than 200 pilots in 2016. “This is a very good opportunity for pilots who want to work for an airline that promises growth, stability and a guaranteed job at American Airlines one day."

As a result of the accelerated jet expansion, Piedmont will begin to transition away from its traditional aircraft, the de Havilland DHC-8 turboprop. Piedmont expects to start retiring turboprop aircraft at a rate of about one aircraft per month. “The Dash has served us well for years,” said Hogg, “but we know that passengers prefer the regional jets and we want to provide the best service we can for American and for our customers.”

The expansion of Piedmont’s jet fleet comes amid growth in other areas of the company. Piedmont is adding 300 customer service jobs in Charlotte, N.C. this year and recently opened a new maintenance base in Richmond, Virginia. “At a time when so many regional airlines are shrinking, we are adding jobs across the country, adding aircraft, adding new routes,” said Hogg. “It’s exciting to be part of a very robust American Airlines Group and we’re thrilled to be part of that success.”

Miller Defense Team Seeks Testimony Of Prosecutors Over Concern Of "Tainted Prosecution"

One day before a pre-trial hearing in the case of a police officer charged in the death of Freddie Gray, the defense is worried about a "tainted prosecution."

In motions unsealed on Monday, defense attorneys for Officer Garrett Miller have advised the Court that they have issued subpoenas to six Baltimore City prosecutors, to determine if they discussed Miller's case.

Miller was offered immunity when he testified for the prosecution on May 16 at the trial of Officer Edward Nero.

Under an immunity agreement none of what Miller said on the stand at Nero's trial, and no evidence resulting from that testimony, can be used at Miller's trial.

QA County Sherrif Press Release ARMED ROBBERY - DEPUTY INJURED.

At 0050 Hours a 911 call was received from subjects at the Court Yard Inn located on RT 213 near Chestertown (QA) reporting an armed robbery involving a gun and knives.

It was reported that the suspects were three African-American males who allegedly took prescription pain medications and a cell phone from the victims and fled in a white Volkswagen passenger car.

A short time later after an attempt to locate broadcast was issued, a Queen Anne’s Deputy observed a white Volkswagen going south on RT 301 north of Centreville.

Backup units were requested and a felony style stop was made. With the possibility of a firearm in the suspect vehicle, additional responding units stopped traffic in the opposite lane for citizen safety.

Hearing the broadcast from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office regarding the armed robbery in the northern part of the county, Maryland state troopers from the Centreville Barrack responded to assist deputies in their search for the suspects.

Trooper First Class Kyle Morrison, a five-year-veteran, was in a marked 2015 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle following another trooper as they both traveled north on Rt. 301, south of Rt. 305. Both troopers had their emergency lights and sirens activated.

In the interim, deputies located the suspect vehicle traveling south on Rt. 301. In preparation for making a felony stop of the suspects, deputies began to shut down northbound Rt. 301 traffic prior to the location where deputies and other troopers planned to make the stop. Deputies were out of their patrol vehicles and on foot in the roadway.

Without warning, TFC Morrison and the other trooper responding from the south came upon the deputies closing the highway. Both troopers braked suddenly and, due to the wet roadway, TFC Morrison swerved into the median to avoid striking the patrol car in front of him.

Rio Olympics: Athletes welcomed with condoms, cool air

But when you step out on the balcony of one of the 3,604 apartments, the complex -- with its swimming pools, tennis courts and bike lanes -- looks downright five-star.

"The athletes are going to have everything they could possibly wish for during the Games," said Paul Ramler, founder of RSG events, which has been supplying furniture for athletes' villages since Sydney 2000.

Tim Kaine: 'F' Rating From NRA, Opposed Letting Virginians Have Gun In Car For Self-Defense

Hillary Clinton’s likely running mate, Sen. Tim Kaine, received an “F” from the NRA in 2012 and, as Governor of Virginia, vetoed a bill that would have allowed Virginians to keep a gun in their cars for self-defense

Once Clinton made her VP decision public, Think Progress quickly pointed out that Kaine is “pro-gun control” and lauded both his “F” rating and his efforts to prevent Virginians from keep guns with them for self-defense.

Think Progress also cheered legislation Kaine introduced as Senator, which would have placed new restrictions and liabilities on Federal Firearms License holders (FFLs)–even to the point of holding FFLs liable for the misuse of guns sold to purchasers who pass an FBI background check. Breitbart News reported that Kaine put forth this legislation in September 2015, two weeks after Vester Lee Flanagan passed an FBI background check then used his gun to kill reporter Alison Parker on-air.

Ginnie Mae Hired Fake CPA To Run $1.9 Trillion Portfolio

Officials at the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) hired a tax scofflaw with a resume including a false claim to be a certified public accountant (CPA) as chief financial officer (CFO) and put him in charge of a $1.5 trillion loan portfolio.

David Fender shirked his official duties and instead ran a government contracting company out of the government office building. He had just been fired from his previous job for running that contracting firm on company time, and Ginnie Mae officials knew it — and that he lied about it — when they hired him.

Ginnie Mae, an agency in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), left Fender at the helm from April, 2014, to April, 2015, even though it quickly became clear he was unqualified. He left Ginnie Mae’s finances in such disrepair that HUD’s inspector general said $6.6 billion couldn’t be audited.

Leaked emails reveal what Dems REALLY think about Hispanics

Democrats like to pride themselves on being the party of “equality” and “inclusivity,” constantly badgering conservatives and common sense Americans who believe in legal immigration as being insensitive and racist, a loaded term that has been so overused it’s really lost its meaning in modern culture.

Well, it turns out, folks in the DNC might be the ones who are in need of a cultural sensitivity class after what was discovered in the batch of emails leaked over the weekend that is causing the Democratic Party to collapse in on itself.

Check out what Dems had to say about Latino voters.

Black Votes Matter

Black votes matter. If Republicans could get 20 percent of black votes, the Democrats would be ruined. This is highly unlikely, given the approach used by Republicans. However, the point is that Democrats must not only continue to get nine-tenths of black votes, they also need to get a high turnout of black voters on election day.

People who expected the election of President Barack Obama to lead to racial healing and a post-racial society failed to take account of the political reality that racial healing and a post-racial society would, at a minimum, reduce black voter turnout.

Black votes matter to many politicians — more so than black lives. That is why such politicians must try to keep black voters fearful, angry and resentful. Racial harmony would be a political disaster for such politicians.

Racial polarization makes both the black population and the white population worse off, but it makes politicians who depend on black votes better off.

Hillary Clinton desperately needs black votes in this year’s close election. Promoting fear, anger and resentments among blacks — and, if possible, paranoia — serves her political interest. Barack Obama has mastered the art of keeping black voters aroused while keeping white voters soothed — thanks in part to the gullibility of much of the public, who mistake geniality and glib rhetoric for honesty and good will.

Obama has repeatedly put the weight and prestige of the presidency on the side of those who denounce the police before any facts are verified — and even after facts have come out, exposing the fraudulence of such claims as the claim that the “gentle giant” Michael Brown said, “Hands up, don’t shoot.”

FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE BACKSTAGE COP TROUBLE Police Pull Escort Detail

Florida Georgia Line dissed law enforcement working security at their concert ... according to an Iowa Sheriff who says the band banned officers, and then came crawling back for protection.

Jones County Sheriff Greg Graver tells TMZ he was headed backstage Saturday night at the Great Jones County Fair to discuss security protocol with the band when he was stopped by a crew member and told no uniformed officers were allowed backstage, per the band.

Sheriff Graver says he was told the country duo even threatened to pull the plug on the concert if they saw any cops.

Graver says midway through the performance, he was told the band wanted a police escort out of town after the show -- but he told them he wouldn't spend "one tax dollar assisting them" ... after being disrespected.

To Reduce Bias, Some Police Departments Are Rethinking Traffic Stops

Though it's his job to enforce the law, Thomas Wydra — police chief of Hamden, Conn. — is not so sure about the laws on defective equipment.

"You may have something hanging from your rearview mirror. That's technically a violation," Wydra says. "You have an attachment on your license plate. That's technically a violation."

"It's a legal reason to stop the vehicle," he continues, "even though, in the officer's mind, that's not the most important reason why they're stopping the car."

Wydra says officers can use these stops to look for things like guns and drugs. But if an officer finds one illegal gun in 20 stops, is that effective?

"I just don't know," Wydra says. "And I think that's part of the debate here on this topic and, really, in the country. Are these stops worth it?"

There's also another question: Are they fair?

The New Black Lives Matter Threat You Won't Believe- We Didn't!

African Americans voters have been the backbone of the Democratic Party for decades, giving upwards of 90 percent of their vote in three of the last four elections. Yet some high profile #BlackLivesMatter activists are saying enough is enough.

Hawk Newsome, an activist from the Bronx, New York has unveiled a campaign aimed at getting Democrats and Republicans to pay attention called “I Ain’t Voting.”

“Black Americans have a chance right now collectively to say to the Democrats,” said Newsome in a statement on Monday. “‘Hey, if you don’t give us criminal justice reform, we’ll give the country to Donald Trump.’ That’ll send the Democrats into a frenzy. Black lives will matter then, I guarantee you.”

The campaign is to inform black Americans that their vote is too important to be ignored and to be owned by one party.

The Changing of the Guard in Cleveland

What a difference four years makes. The just-ended Republican Convention in Cleveland was a lot different from the Tampa GOP convention four years ago, and a lot different from the St. Paul Republican convention four years before that. One is tempted to say, “Let’s count the ways,” starting with the conventional wisdom-defying rise of Donald Trump, but it’s hard to count that high. So let’s just focus on six:

First, look who wasn’t there. No John McCain, no Mitt Romney, no Jeb Bush, no George W. Bush, no George P. Bush—no Bush family whatsoever; we can all decide for ourselves how many Republicans were truly saddened by their absence. And if they had appeared, we can guess how many channel-surfing swing voters might have caught a glimpse and said to themselves, “Hey, there’s Mitt Romney! That reminds me: I need to vote Republican this November!” (Said nobody.)

Second, gay rights. The days of overt Republican hostility to gays are long gone. And so, even, are the days of benign neglect. Today, Trump, a New Yorker to his core, has brought at least some “New York values” to the Party. And gays have reciprocated; as Silicon Valley mogul Peter Thiel declared on Thursday night, “I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican. But most of all, I am proud to be an American.” And the crowd went wild—with a standing ovation. And a few minutes later, from the same podium, Trump himself gave an extended shoutout to gays, carefully articulating the letters “LGBTQ”—twice.

Maryland faces possible lack of female lawmakers in Congress

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland has been among leading states in electing women to political offices for decades, but the state could have its first all-male congressional delegation in more than 40 years unless at least one of two Republicans or a third-party candidate wins in November in the heavily Democratic state.

Republican Marjorie Holt became Maryland’s first elected congresswoman, serving seven terms from 1973 to 1987. Democrat Gladys Spellman served three terms from 1975 to 1981. They were followed by Republicans Helen Bentley, who served five terms from 1985 to 1995, and Connie Morella, who served eight terms from 1987 to 2003.

And Sen. Barbara Mikulski, a Democrat, is the longest-serving woman in the history of the U.S. Congress.

But Mikulski’s retirement next year could leave Maryland without a woman in the 10-member delegation.

Kaine Promises Amnesty Plan ‘In the First 100 Days’

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) was officially announced as Hillary Clinton’s running mate in Miami this afternoon as she introduced him as a “progressive who likes to get things done.”

“Hey, guys. Thank you!” he said as he took the podium, before immediately launching into a message in Spanish.

Kaine repeatedly referred to his missionary work in Honduras, where he learned to speak fluent Spanish.

“I taught teenagers the basics of carpentry and welding, and they helped me learn Spanish,” he said.

He also used Spanish to describe his Catholic faith and his plan for immigration reform.

“In our administration in the first 100 days we’ll put forward a comprehensive immigration reform package that includes a path to citizenship,” he shouted.

Weary of protest, Baltimore activists seek change elsewhere

Under the beating summer sun, retired steelworker Arthur B. Johnson Jr. stood outside the Clarence Mitchell Courthouse in Baltimore, clutching the fraying wooden handle of a homemade sign.

“Justice for Freddie Gray,” it read. Inside, a fourth officer was about to be cleared of criminal charges in Gray’s death last April, a week after Gray’s neck was broken while he was handcuffed and shackled but left unrestrained in the back of a police van. Johnson has shown up for every trial, in pouring rain and sweltering heat.

Thousands took to the streets last spring. The refrain of “No justice, no peace” rang through corridors on the city’s east and west sides for more than a week; after a riot broke out, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake instituted a 10 p.m. curfew. The National Guard rolled into town to restore order.

But these days, Johnson and his sign typically stand alone.

The most recent acquittal, for Lt. Brian Rice, the highest-ranking officer charged in Gray’s death, was rapidly preceded by two others, including Officer Caesar Goodson, who drove the wagon in which Gray’s spine was snapped.

Still, where once the streets exploded in fire and fury, the sidewalks are calm; the flames extinguished and the palpable rage dissipated.

Some activists say the anger many citizens feel is simply manifesting itself in different ways, and that the focus has shifted from the streets of Baltimore to the state’s capital: due to increasing pressure, this year lawmakers enacted reforms to the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights for the first time since its inception nearly 40 years ago. Others say the feverish momentum of last spring was simply unsustainable.

But all agree on one thing: Although initially emboldened by the criminal charges brought against the officers by a fresh-faced state’s attorney eager to make her mark, the procession of acquittals has left nearly hopeless the residents most familiar with the problematic police practices that landed the city under federal review in the first place.

“There were hopes and expectations that these officers wouldn’t just be indicted, but convicted,” said Tawanda Jones, a well-known Baltimore activist whose brother died three years ago after an encounter with Baltimore police.

“People felt hopeful, because this is the first time we’ve ever seen officers get prosecuted. But watching them one by one walk away, there’s mournful disappointment,” Jones said. “They’ve lost hope.”

Biometric Scanning Use Grows, So Does Security Risk

Without you necessarily realizing it, your unique attributes — or "biometrics" — are being used to verify your identity.

Every time you unlock your smartphone, use a fingerprint scanner at the airport, or upload a photo with facial recognition to Facebook, your physical attributes are scanned and scrutinized against a template.

The use of biometrics has exploded in recent years, with companies ranging from 24-Hour Fitness to NYU Langone Medical Center using this convenient technology to identify their customers.

By 2019, biometrics are expected to be a 25-billion-dollar industry with more than 500 million biometric scanners in use around the world, according to Marc Goodman, an advisor to Interpol and the FBI. Newest to the scene, Wells Fargo this fall will begin offering a smartphone app with biometric authentication — making all your financial information just an eye scan away.

With biometrics, there's no need to memorize an unwieldy sequence of numbers and letters as with passwords — and consumers value that convenience. In a OnePoll/Gigya survey, 80 percent of consumers who expressed a preference said they think biometric authentication is more secure than traditional passwords, and 52 percent of consumers said they would choose anything but a traditional password when given the choice.

But, unlike a password, if a person's biometrics are hacked, they can't be changed.

Farmers fight for the right to repair their own tractors

Farmers in Nebraska, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and New York are staging something of a mechanical revolt. They're attempting to get legislation passed in their states that would enable them, for the first time since the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, to repair their own tractors or get an independent mechanic to help.

At the root of the morass is the software that helps run modern tractors and their sensors, diagnostic tools, and other high-tech elements. If farmers so much as open the metaphorical hood to check out the computers they could be violating the federal act, reports Modern Farmer.

Mick Minchow, a Nebraska farmer for more than 40 years, is among the many who are fed up, reports Lincoln Journal Star. As it currently stands, any problem with his John Deere 8235 R requires a trip to the dealer and costs him important time.

Ed Jennings, Jr. sued for $100,000 unpaid loan

Ed Jennings, Jr., a regional administrator in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, has been listed as a defendant in a complaint filed by the Heritage Bank of the South, a successor of Alarion Bank, over an unpaid loan valued at $100,000.

Jennings reportedly failed to pay an installment on the loan due on Nov. 15, 2014 and all subsequent payments, and attempts to reach the former member of the Florida House of Representatives have reportedly been unsuccessful.

Documents obtained by the Alligator reveal that Jennings took out a loan from Alarion Bank for $144,504 on Aug. 3, 2011. Jennings reportedly owes $100,579.31 in principal on the loan along with $1,829 in unpaid interest. He also reportedly owes $4,618.45 in late fees as of March 11.

A Gainesville native, Jennings agreed to pay the loan back in 59 installments of $2,697.80, with the final payment due on Aug. 1, 2016.

But officials reportedly had difficulty locating and summoning Jennings over the past three months, despite his status as an arguably highly public government employee.
