Irish Penny Restaurant Temporarily Closed
No fried pickles, Irish egg rolls, soft pretzels, wings, claddagh rings or craft beer at Irish Penny & Pub in the Clairmont Shopping Center! A freak plumbing problem created quite a mess early Saturday morning, and the restaurant is closed for repairs. Owners Jeff Trivits and Scott Urban hope to be back open and ready to go in a week. If they keep us posted, we will keep you posted. Good Luck Guys!

The real cost of feeding an inmate
We are told the cost of feeding an inmate here in the county jail is over $7 a meal. You tell me if you think your being lied to. This is truly what they're fed. Keep in mind this isn't about the criminal and his food. Even though most in our county jail are still innocent while awaiting trial. This is about lying to the people about what the costs are and where is our money really going.
Why The Heck Are Salisbury Residents So Upset About Cracker Barrel Not Coming To The Mall?
Why, because when you do finally open your eyes the majority of people using them are just plain OBESE. It's NOT because the masses are injured. It's because, well, they just don't eat healthy.
So while many of these obese people might be upset that Cracker Barrel can't land a deal in the Mall, the last thing this area needs is another heart attack waiting to happen restaurant opening their doors.
Mayor Day says, not to worry though Folks. He's confident they'll find another location somewhere in Salisbury. After all, the City cares more about the Almighty Tax Dollars over any one's health anyway.
Kinda makes you wonder why there's no Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers stores opening here. They'd make a killing! Then again, maybe not.
Now who wants to meet me at Sam's Club for a $1.81 Nathans Hot Dog and a Soda?
Did It Really Just Cost Me Over $80.00+ To Cook Our Christmas Turkey?
I don't know about ALL of you but we just received our Delmarva Power Electric Bill for last month and it was through the roof.
Fortunately our regular bills are around $90.00 a month but the latest bill came in at $174.00 and guess what, IT WAS WARM ALL MONTH!
Now there may have been a day or two we turned on our pellet stove but we never turn on our hvac heating system. The only thing we can figure out is that we cooked a Christmas Turkey and that's it!
That being said I thought I'd reach out to all of you to see if you experience the same questionable increase. If so, (and hopefully you agree) it's high time we go to our legislators for this scam from these so called "smart meters" and challenge the electric companies.
My guess is that last month was much slower in electric use and they're bumping up the bills to make up for their massive losses with the unexpected warm temperatures.
I guess time will tell through comments.

Meeting tomorrow regarding the proposed chicken houses
To inform those who did not attend the Tuesday night meeting-nothing really happened after the public comments. The council said they would take what we said into consideration. Unfortunately I received bad news today. The MDE has approved the permits for the chicken houses- but he has not gotten approval yet from the state. Either way, he can start construction any time. The process is very wrong and backwards. Despite all of this, we still may have a fighting chance.
There is a proposed business park that is going in basically right next to the chicken houses. A Baltimore-based developer plans to bring a new commercial business park along the corridor of the Route 50 bypass at Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury. Kraus Properties, LLC. purchased the 26.35 acre parcel along Route 50 from SVN-Miller Commercial Real Estate. The land is being planned for a highway commercial park, targeting commercial, service and industrial uses.
The City of Salisbury, along with the developers, look to bring convenience stores, hotels, and restaurants to the business park. That being said, this developer might not realize that his brand new businesses are about to be surrounded by a whole lot of stink--not good for hotels, restaurants, etc!
We are in the process on contacting Mr. Kraus now to let him know- Also, if the city stretches their limits, the chicken houses will automatically affect their income (because there is a possibility Mr. Kraus might not want to build anymore)- I don't think Jake Day will be very happy about that.
A Viewer Writes: Small Town Corruption
After reading the post about Brad Gillis about being in bed with a city counsel member, I found this article to be interesting. This is how the Gillis Gilkerson kids found a way to get one vote from the Wicomico Liquor Board in their favor when trying to change liquor laws that only help themselves. Chris Eccleston, who is a lifetime friend of the Gillis Gilkerson kids conveniently found his way onto the liquor board before they applied to change two liquor laws that would help only their establishments (Brick Room and Headquarters Live). Nothing like small town corruption and buying votes from government officials.

A Viewer Writes: State Troopers Speeding on SnowHill Rd
At 2:39 am January 2nd, on my way home I caught a glimpse of a state trooper approaching in the rear view mirror with his lights on. Of course I pull over and let him pass by. The wind coming off the squad car shook my van and before I knew it, he was out of sight. I continued on my way only to be approached by another car, approaching fast. It seemed to whip around me like a bat out of hell.. Only after it had passed did I realize it was another Maryland State Trooper. At that point, and seeing the risk and danger he had put me in, I started flashing high beams and honking my horn. About a 1000 feet from the golf course, he pulled over and exited his car. I asked for his badge number, I told him be was speeding without his lights, and that he could have killed me. To which I got the response "I'm responding to a call". I was sure to write down the only distinguishing marking on the Troopers car, his license plate. "E-11". It seems with just a few short words, his actions were justified beyond question.
This is not the first time I have seen this behavior and lack of safety. On this same road, these Troopers turn their lights on, get past anyone in their way, then quickly turn them off. A fast way home, a convenience of the job not to follow the law, or just a shear disregard for safety for the enjoyment of a fast joy ride.
If it was a response to a call like the officer describes, than he should turn on his flashing lights. There is no reason to keep from warning other cars of an approaching emergency vehicle.

It sure proves that once you serve as Mayor of Salisbury you come out either a man acting like a woman or a woman acting like a man. Boy have times changed.
A Viewer Writes: Shooting In Sharptown
Joe I read the other day about a shoot out and attempted robbery in Sharptown. Someone said it was like Iraq in town. What happened with this? Why was this kept quiet? I heard it was quite a commotion. Did some digging on the sheriffs web site and sure enough a shots fired call on the 2nd of January. Folks in town said a car accident happened with this.
Martin O'Malley Calls Donald Trump A Racist
Martin O'Malley sent me a message today with the following quote.
Last night, Donald Trump attacked me personally and said that I am "bad news" and "should get out of this race." Well, it sounds to me like we're getting under his skin. While Trump was spewing racism and hate, I was busy in Nevada talking about how we need new leadership to build off of President Obama's successes.
We need to stand up to the carnival barker and show him that we are not afraid. I call on Donald Trump to get out of this race. He is a national embarrassment and a threat to our American values.

County backs bill to ease sprinkler regs
The fight over requiring fire suppression sprinklers in single- and two-family residences isn’t over, even though it has been the law since 2012, when Gov. Martin O’Malley signed HB366 requiring the systems to be installed in new homes.
In addition, the measure prohibited local jurisdictions from exempting their towns and counties from the law, as had been previously permitted.
But now Delegate Chris Adams (R-37B), representing the mid-shore area, and others would change all that, and he now has the support of the Worcester County Commissioners.
Adams has prefiled HB19, which would return some control to local government, for the upcoming session of the General Assembly. He emphasized that his measure is not about opposing firefighters, who endorse the sprinkler law, but about restoring local control of an issue that affects not only his constituents, but also himself as a builder.

Salisbury – Mayor Jake Day is pleased to announce that Salisbury has retained Arnett Muldrow & Associates to conduct a branding and marketing initiative for the city and its historic downtown. The purpose of the effort is to create a consistent image package for the community and its partners to use to continue to build local pride, recruit investment to the community, and market Salisbury to visitors.
The marketing and branding resource visit for Salisbury will begin on Wednesday, January 20th with a series of roundtable meetings with various stakeholder groups. The public is invited to offer input on the marketing image for Salisbury at a public session to be held that Wednesday, January 20th, at Salisbury Fire Department Headquarters, 325 Cypress Street. The session will begin at 6:00 p.m., and all community members are welcome to attend. A second public input session will be held the following day, Thursday, January 21st at the same location at 12:00 p.m. The intensive process is designed to immerse the project team in the community and to provide a marketing and branding plan in a very short time frame.
The project team will then spend the following two days working on design concepts that will be presented to the Mayor and steering committee.

Don't Cry for Me, Gun Controller
During his Tuesday press conference rolling out his over-hyped executive actions on guns, Barack Obama even shed a “tear” for the children. “Every time I think about those kids [killed at Sandy Hook Elementary], it gets me mad,” he said, wiping away a tear. “Our unalienable right to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness — those rights were stripped from college kids in Blacksburg and Santa Barbara,” Obama said. “And from high schoolers at Columbine. And from first graders in Newtown. First graders. And from every family who never imagined that their loved one would be taken by a bullet from a gun.” He continued, “We do have to feel a sense of urgency about it, because people are dying and the constant excuses for inaction no longer suffice.”
And to think, Obama once said, “Part of this job is also the theater of it” and that’s “not something that always comes naturally to me.” Please.
He then proceeded to introduce measures that would do absolutely nothing to reduce crime or so-called “gun violence.”

Pharmacists Ask U.S. Supreme Court to Protect Their Conscience Rights
(CNSNews) – A family-owned pharmacy and two individual pharmacists petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday to stop a state law that compels pharmacies and individual pharmacists in Washington State to provide abortion-inducing drugs despite conscience objections.
The 2007 Washington law requires pharmacists to dispense all drugs approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a “timely manner consistent with reasonable expectations,” with no exceptions for conscience-based referrals for abortion inducing drugs.
Washington is the only state that currently makes conscience-based referrals illegal.
The petition to the Supreme Court comes after a long battle with Washington over this law which, according to the Becket Fund, “was passed in a cloud of controversy, with then-Governor Christine Gregoire threatening to terminate the State Pharmacy Commission and replacing commission members with new ones recommended by abortion-rights activists.”
The Stormans family owns Ralph’s Thriftway, a grocery store that includes a small pharmacy. The family, in keeping with their Christian beliefs, “cannot stock or dispense the morning-after or week-after pills (collectively, “Plan B”),” according to the petition, “For Petitioners, dispensing these drugs would make them guilty of destroying human life.”

O’Malley misses Ohio write-in deadline
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Democrat Martin O’Malley has failed to qualify as a write-in candidate for Ohio’s presidential primary after he previously fell short of the signatures needed for his name to appear on the key swing state’s ballot.
To be a write-in candidate for the March 15 primary, contenders were required to file a declaration of intent with Ohio’s elections chief by 4 p.m. Monday.
A spokesman for Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted (HYOO’-sted) tells The Associated Press that O’Malley missed the deadline. Husted’s office says it received the former Maryland governor’s paperwork at about 8 a.m. Tuesday. There is no appeals process under Ohio law.

13 Hours: A Potential for Political Disaster for Clinton
By Thorton Crowe
Mark your calendars for January 15th because the Michael Bay/Paramount Pictures’ film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, is scheduled for its theatrical release in major theaters. Some pundits are already slating this film may very well put the Clinton campaign at grave risk due to its spotlight on an atrocious event that has remained a virtual enigma for the past three years.
In a nutshell, the film exposes the events in Benghazi on September 11, 2012 when the American consulate was brutally attacked; leaving Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith along with CIA contractors, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty dead without much explanation. Based on the book by Michael Zuckoff, the story gives an astoundingly frank depiction of six security team members who ignored the stand down orders and did their duty as soldiers – i.e. protecting Americans in crisis.
One has to wonder, if Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures can see the relevance of this story’s impact, why are so many still avidly supporting Hilary Clinton’s bid for a place on the Democratic ticket or the White House? Why would anyone even entertain her as viable and competent after such a debauchery (without this film) – let alone the criminal activity surrounding the on-going email investigation/scandal – is beyond any comprehension?
While some Clintonites may attempt to marginalize the film’s credibility with a glib ‘it’s just Hollywood’ dismissal, perhaps (and hopefully) it will be an eye-opening experience, inspiring epiphanies for others as to why she should not even be an option.

We're Thinking About ADHD All Wrong, Says A Top Pediatrician
Diagnoses of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are up around 30 percent compared with 20 years ago. These days, if a 2-year-old won't sit still for circle time in preschool, she's liable to be referred for evaluation, which can put her on track for early intervention and potentially a lifetime of medication.
In an editorial just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics, Dimitri Christakis argues that we've got this all wrong. He's a professor of pediatrics at the University of Washington and the director of the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Children's Hospital in Seattle.
Parents, schools and doctors, he says, should completely rethink this highly medicalized framework for attention difficulties.
"ADHD does a disservice to children as a diagnosis," Christakis tells NPR Ed.
Here's why. Researchers are currently debating the nature of ADHD. They have found some genetic markers for it, but the recent rise in diagnoses is too swift to be explained by changes in our genes. Neuroscientists, too, are finding brain wiring patterns characteristic of the disorder.
But the current process of diagnosis amounts to giving a questionnaire to parents and doctors. If they identify six out of nine specific behaviors, then the child officially has ADHD.
"If you fall on this side of the line, we label and medicate you," says Christakis. "But on the other side of the line, we do nothing."

URGENT Warning on OR Standoff:
Military Special OP Assets Have Been Assigned for Standoff. Get All Children Out of There Immediately
Oath Keepers has received very credible information from an active duty source within the special operations community that at least one SOD-X (Reserve/National Guard Special Operations Detachment, see this, this, and this) unit under the command of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) has been tasked for this standoff at the Malheur Wildlife Reserve and moved to the area.
Due to this, anyone who has children there, at the wildlife refuge, needs to get them out immediately, and DO NOT take any more children there for any reason (and we do know that some children, including a baby, have been seen there). We do not need to have the risk of dead children in this incident. It is unconscionable and immoral for anyone to place children at risk of being in the middle of a firefight or military strike on the armed men holding that federal wildlife refuge. We DO NOT trust the Obama Administration to do this right, which would be to handle it like the Montana freeman standoff rather than the Waco standoff, and anyone who thinks that Obama won't drop the hammer on Ammon and his men is a fool. We hope "the adults in the room" in the Administration and in the federal LEO and military community will keep that from happening, but hope is not an operational plan.
Get, and keep, children off the friggin X. This is not a "free speech" barbecue at Bundy Ranch with live music. This is a whole different animal. Children have no business there. In fact, there should be no non-combatants (no women and children) there at all. This is not a family event.

Given this, we should expect that other special operations assets, such as Delta Force, will also be involved if the Obama Administration decides to give the green light on a military strike. And we should expect the presence of the infamous FBI HRT (which were present at both Ruby Ridge and Waco).

Traffic Cases
Early this morning we posted the MSP press release about a woman that was involved in an alcohol related collision. Upon viewing her records on case search this is what we found. She is listed 18 times for traffic violations. The current DUI is not listed so we are unsure of how many more cases that will result in. Of those 18 cases there are 15 different dates, meaning she has been pulled over 15 times since May of 2012. Five of those were for speeding, going over 70mph in a 55mph zone. Of those 5 she only received 1 guilty verdict. The rest were either no pro or pbj. Below is a list of all the records. Next to the date is the police agency and the county where it happened. How many chances should be given someone before they take their license?

It hasn't been seen since before Christmas. The helicopter is gone and the hangar it was housed in at Salisbury Airport for the past 11 years has been cleaned out and vacated. WBOC news and Bob Bryant, the airport manager married to Lisa Bryant at WBOC, is very hush-hush about it. I wonder what happened to it and why they keep pretending it's here. My kids and I were big fans of it and sorry to see it gone with not so much a word from WBOC.
Have you heard anything about it?

A group of teenagers attacked a mailman for delivering Christmas presents late.
**Explicit Language**
One 15-year-old was arrested by Baton Rouge, La., police in connection to the attack which erupted after the teens confronted the U.S. postal worker while he was making deliveries on Thursday.
“A group of teens stepped in front of the USPS vehicle and blocked it from moving; they then attacked the postal worker and began punching him,” Baton Rouge Crime reported.
The fight began on a neighborhood street and spilled into residents’ front lawns, and during the fight one of the teens stole the mailman’s phone.

TIGHTENING THE RULES ON GUNS Obama actions require background checks by all in 'business' of firearms
Obama announces gun control actions, expands background checks
President Obama formally announced plans Tuesday to expand background checks and make other changes to America’s gun rules via executive action, bypassing Congress and fueling an election-year fight with Republicans.
“Everybody should have to abide by the same rules,” Obama said.
The president, speaking at the White House, said background checks "make a difference" and will be expanded so that they can cover purchases online, at gun shows and in other venues.
“Anybody in the business of selling firearms must get a license and conduct background checks or be subject to criminal prosecutions,” he said. Obama was flanked by victims of gun violence and introduced by Mark Barden, whose son was killed in the Sandy Hook mass shooting.
At the heart of Obama's plan is a more sweeping definition of gun dealers that the administration hopes will expand the number of gun sales subject to background checks. At gun shows, websites and flea markets, sellers often skirt that requirement by declining to register as licensed dealers, but officials said the new federal guidance clarifies that it applies to anyone "in the business" of selling firearms.

A Viewer Writes: CPS SCANDAL
Some background on the biological mother: she has been an avid heroin user for the last five years, but since she was 15 has been into numerous drugs and alcohol. The drugs of choice that I know of are as followed: crack cocaine, Percocet, heroin, and alcohol. She has tried many other drugs but nothing gave her the same affect as the ones listed above. She comes from an abusive and neglectful childhood, where her biological father was the first to introduce her to crack around age 12-14. She was sexually molested by her father, in and out of foster care throughout her childhood which is how I became acquainted with her. At 16 she had her first child who is now 13 going on 14, and every other year since then has had a child. Her youngest is now 6 going on 7 and she is currently 36 weeks pregnant with her 6th child.
After being arrested on September 18, 2015 for heroin possession, she reached out to my mother and myself to take her children because she was scared that the drug dealer would harm them. At that time we were taking with a Dorchester county sheriff when we received the call we left immediately and picked them up. The last three months all of the children have thrived being in our care. The entire staff at their school noticed the difference almost immediately, and reached out of myself and my mother to offer their support in the upcoming custody case for these children.
On Wednesday December 30, 2015 there was a meeting held at Dorchester County Department of Social Services with Pam Elliot as well as other staff members up to the director of the department. The meeting started very aggressively, when it was supposed to be a neutral family involvement meeting, to set up visitation with the mother and the biological father of the youngest child. There were many questions asked but my mother and the children's therapist were not permitted to answer any questions that they were asked during this meeting. The end result of this meeting was the mother made the decision to move the children based on the fact that my mother filed for custody of the children and she stated that in the meeting.
Through working with the therapist throughout the 3 months we had the children we have found out about numerous accounts of abuse. She has tried to murder her son numerous times and has failed at every attempt. He made the comment before he left us on New Years Eve, 'what if she kills me this time Nana I'll never see you guys again'.
Tonight we sent out Caroline county Sheriffs office and Greensboro Police Department to check on the children when we found out they were with their mother, unsupervised by the one listed on the safety plan as well as a tier 1 sex offender, the police did nothing!
Socials services, in particular Child Protective Services, are doing nothing to protect these children from their abuser. We are very disappointed in the lack of care this agency has for the children, they are for benefit of the parent, not the safety of the children.

Comcast gets most FCC complaints by wide margin
Comcast tallied more customer complaints with the Federal Communications Commission than three of its major competitors combined.
Ars Technica, a publication focused on technology and IT, reports the deluge of complaints against the Philadelphia-based cable and Internet service giant included customers frustrated over data caps and overage charges.
...Comcast received 11,812 complaints so far this year (from January 1 to November 9). AT&T got 3,896 such complaints, Verizon got 1,588, and TWC had 1,240. In total, AT&T, Verizon, and TWC received 6,724 such complaints—5,000 fewer than Comcast alone.
At first glance, some might think it makes sense for Comcast to have a larger raw number of upset subscribers because it has more customers overall. But the percentages don't add up.

Montel Williams Says He’s ‘Totally Fine With a Massive Use of Deadly Force in Oregon to Take Out Ammon Bundy’
As the armed occupation of a federal building in a national wildlife refuge in Oregon continues, TV talk show host Montel Williams took to Twitter on Sunday with some blunt solutions to the situation:
Ammon Bundy — the son of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was involved in a 2014 standoff with the government over grazing rights — is among the people at the headquarters of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. It was unclear exactly how many people were taking part in the protests.
Bundy and other militia members came to Burns last month, a small town about 280 miles southeast of Portland, Oregon. They were upset over the looming prison sentences for local ranchers Dwight and Steven Hammond. They went to the wildlife refuge Saturday evening following a peaceful rally in Burns to support the ranchers.

Armed Protesters Take Over Fed Building in Oregon, Vow to Stay 'As Long as It Takes'
Armed protesters have taken over a federal building in a wildlife refuge in Oregon and vowed to occupy it for “as long as it takes.”
The occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Refuge came shortly after 300 marchers paraded through Burns in support of father and son ranchers who are facing a 5-year prison sentence for setting fire to 130 acres of land.
The protester speaking for the group is Ammon Bundy, son of Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who clashed with the feds two years ago.

VW Reportedly Considering Buying Back More Than 50,000 Emissions-Cheating Cars In The U.S.
Volkswagen may buy back tens of thousands of vehicles in the United States if the company can’t find an easy way to remove “defeat devices” that allow the cars to evade emissions standards.
The potential buyback is just one of several options being weighed by the carmaker in order to satisfy federal regulators who uncovered the emissions cheating scandal in September, Bloomberg reports.
VW, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Air Resources Board are currently in discussions on ways to resolve the emissions issues plaguing more than 500,000 vehicles in the U.S. and 11 million worldwide.
According to sources who were briefed on the matter, VW has concluded that it would be easier after to repurchase some of the more than 500,000 vehicles equipped with defeat devices in the U.S. than it would be to fix them.
For now, the figure being linked to a potential buyback is about 50,000 vehicles, but that number could increase.
