Patriot Day, 2008

By the President of the United States of America

a proclamation

September 11, 2001, was etched into America's memory when 19 terrorists attacked us with barbarity unequaled in our history. On Patriot Day, we cherish the memory of the thousands of innocent victims lost , extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, and honor the heroic men and women who risked and sacrificed their lives
so others might survive.

Since 9/11, we have recognized the threat posed by terrorists to the safety of the American people and worked to protect our homeland by fighting terrorists abroad. We are confronting terrorism by advancing freedom, liberty, and prosperity as an alternative to the ideologies of hatred and repression. Our Nation pays tribute to our courageous men and women in uniform serving around the world and the devoted members of our law enforcement, public safety, and intelligence communities at home who work night and day to protect us from harm and preserve the freedom of this great Nation.

Seven years ago, ordinary citizens rose to the challenge, united in prayer, and responded with extraordinary acts of courage, with some giving their lives for the country they loved. On Patriot Day, we remember all those who were taken from us in an instant and seek their lasting memorial in a safer and more hopeful world. We must not allow our resolve to be weakened by the passage of time. We will meet the test that history has given us and continue to fight to rid the world of terrorism and promote liberty around the globe.

By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001 (Public Law 107-89), the Congress has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim September 11, 2008, as Patriot Day. I call upon the Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, as well as appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half-staff on Patriot Day. I also call upon the people of the United States to observe Patriot Day with appropriate ceremonies, a ctivities, and remembrance services, to display the flag at half-staff from their homes on that day, and to observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. eastern daylight time to honor the innocent Americans and people from around the world who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

GEORGE W. BUSH

When I contacted the City of Salisbury today asking them why so many flags were being put up they replied, they weren't sure. They asked if they could call me beck and let me know and I agreed. An hour later they informed me that it was Public Works putting up the flags but "I don't know why." They did say that they assumed it was for September 11th.

Things Are Rocking At The New Republican Headquarters!

"Joe, worked over at republican headquarters today, and people are flowing in there looking for mccain-palin stuff.. we are all out but people are signing up to be notified like wildfire...she has def made this election.."

I happen to know that last weekend they were LOADED with material and I'm glad to know that Salisbury News played a roll in getting the word out there to everyone and things are moving that fast. I'll add, I happen to know for a fact that the Democrats are having a very difficult time getting ANY materials in to even open their facility, in which they do have but it has yet to be announced.

It's an exciting time for both Parties and who knows, maybe it will come down to who can get supplies first?

Book Bags Are Showing Up Out Of Nowhere?

This morning I was speaking with this Officer who was doing patrol in the Downtown area and I showed him two book bags that had been left outside our buildings.

My guess is that someone is taking them from the Library and searching through them and when all is done they simply drop them off in this area. So if you're missing your book bags, contact the SPD and claim your items.

Sam's Club Still Packing Them In At The Pumps

I was with a friend today and we went by Sam's Club and captured this image of cars lining up at 1:30 in the afternoon. Not that any ones gas prices are where we'd all like them to be, they're still to lowest price in Town. It is nice to see others lowering their prices to keep even Sam's Club in check.

NFIB And US Chamber Endorse Harris

Endorsements Show Andy is the Best Candidate to Improve the Economy

Bel Air - Andy Harris M.D. announced today he received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in his campaign for Congress.

At the announcement, local business leaders who are supporting his campaign joined Andy. "In the State Senate, Andy Harris has been a great advocate," said Tom Motley of RKS Realty. "With the economy slumping, health care costs soaring, and the federal budget deficit climbing to new heights, Andy Harris is the right man at the right time."

"Small businesses are the foundation of the American economy." said Andy Harris M.D. "I am committed to lowering taxes and decreasing wasteful government spending to stimulate economic growth,"

At a time when rising energy prices are crippling small businesses in the first district, Andy Harris has developed a comprehensive energy plan that includes increasing domestic production of oil and natural gas, investing in the next generation of alternative energy technology such as wind, tidal, and bio-fuels, and encouraging more conservation.

Small businesses are forced to pay higher taxes as a result of O'Malley's tax increases. Now, liberals in Congress want to eliminate the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts that have created millions of new jobs. "I staunchly opposed O'Malley's tax hikes in Maryland. In Congress, I will vote against every Pelosi tax hike," said Dr. Harris.

One of the most pressing issues facing small businesses is the rising cost of healthcare. As a physician for over 25 years at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience on how to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Marylanders.

The Democrats Are Pissed!

One Democrat flat out told me, "It's Over." He was talking about Obama's choice for Vice President, Joe Biden.

Another was going off about ad campaigns and the rest are pretty obvious right here on this Blog.

Look, I have said this in the past and I think it's worth repeating. I do not believe that anyone in America can be pleased with the choice each Party delivered as their #1 pick for President.

I should add, it's Congress that runs America, not the President. Oh, many may choose to argue that but the reality is, America is all screwed up because of Congress, not the President.

Now don't go thinking that I support President Bush, I don't! I think that dumb SOB should have been kicked out of Office the very first year he was in. However, you, the Idiots of America not only voted for the Idiot once, you did it twice.

Now does that mean that McCain will follow in Bush's footsteps? Come on now, you can't be that stupid, can you? Well, then again, Bush did get into Office twice. The bottom line is, should McCain become the "Maverick" some label him, well, positive change is about to happen for America.

We, (as a Country) are sending BILLIONS of dollars overseas for just oil alone each and every year. These companies and Countries are becoming so rich off of us that they're now coming back with our very own money and buying up American Companies in trouble and taking over our own Country. It's time to get serious Folks! If you thought having foreigners running local Mini Marts and so forth was bad, you just wait another 5 years!

CONGRESS needs to be changed. Again, vote out every incumbent in Congress from this point forward and then and only then will you see CHANGE in America.

In the mean time, stop being so angry, Republicans and Democrats. Change ALL of the members of Congress and that's when you'll see America come around.

Dog Gone Tired!

"A year ago , a Ms Walls proposed the Countys Dog Laws be changed for better protection of its citizens & its animals. ONE YEAR LATER, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL. It was told me a committee formed to revise & correct the Dog Laws was ask to have them completed by FEBRUARY 2008. THIS WAS DONE!!!! The Council just brought this matter up last month.!! At the meeting they requested Mr Baker review these laws. The request is legit but what the heck took so long to bring this before The Cty. Council? Do you suppose everything is put on the back burner as this appears to have been done. If so we'd better add 6 more Council Members so the jobs can be accomplished. Also understood the Council had received many complaints about Ms Lugo & had proposed to bring her before them. Has this taken place? My last informant tells me NO it hasn't. It appears to me with all the complaints I'm reading about the Humane Society they sure as heck need SOME NEW DOG LAWS FROM THIS COUNTY SO SOMEONE'S HELD ACCOUNTABLE !!! From: DOG TIRED OF IT ALL!!!!!!!"

Yo Dog:

Here's the deal. When it comes to the City Council, my suggestion is to go right to the horses mouth, Gary Comegys. You see, he spent many a years as President of the Humane Society and the most he got out of it was free meals. Thank God Ron Alessi wasn't on that Board too because Bubba would have walked away with a Gold Watch once he resigned from the Humane Society recently.

I'll check into this some more and get back with you, unless others out there have more to share?

Debate

Congressional Candidate Andy Harris Starts Off Early Yesterday Morning In Salisbury

While Senator Andy Harris was a guest on the Bill Reddish Show yesterday morning, he immediately went off to the Sage Diner on Rt 13 in Salisbury for breakfast. Mark McIver and Chris Meekins joined Andy for a quick meal and had a full schedule ahead of themselves once again here on the Shore. Andy went from table to table meeting everyone there before he took time out to grab a bite to eat. Then it was off to the races.

ERA Martin & Associates Welcomes Andy Harris

While Mr. Hal Chernoff was eating breakfast at the Sage Diner yesterday morning he was pleasantly surprised when Congressional Candidate Andy Harris came up to him and joined Hal for breakfast. The group talked and Hal invited Andy over to their early morning Real Estate Meeting Tuesday where Andy was able to meet the rest of the Professionals there.

They spoke about the economy and everyone was pleased to hear the real estate market isn't actually doing too bad right now here in Salisbury.

Senator Andy Harris Meets With Salisbury Rotary Club

It was more than just packed at the Salisbury Rotary Meeting yesterday at Brew River. They had to bring in additional tables and seating into the next room, it was that well attended.

Some great questions were brought up as well at this gathering, much the same as the concerns of the other meetings I attended yesterday with Andy. Taxes, the economy, fuel and real estate. Andy Harris said, we have to lower taxes. It's the only way to stimulate our economy and it has been proven in the past that if we do so it stimulates spending and builds the growth of America.

"I staunchly oppose O'Malley's tax hikes in Maryland. In Congress, I will vote against every Pelosi hike."

One of the most pressing issues facing small businesses is the rising cost of healthcare. As a Physician for over 25 years at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, Andy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience on how to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for all Marylanders.

The group of more than 55 people were all ears yesterday and truly welcomed Andy.

NFIB And US Chamber Of Commerce Endorses Andy Harris For Congress

Senator Andy Harris met with people from the US Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business today at DiCarlo Precision Instruments.

John DiCarlo said, "I don't normally get involved in politics but as a small businessman I have some real concerns about taxes. Each quarter that goes by the taxes make it more and more difficult for small businesses to survive.

He went on to say his personal economic forecast with Andy Harris is bright and sunny and that's why I'm supporting Senator Andy Harris for Congress.

Andy Harris went on to say, (once introduced) that the Chamber and the NFIB chose to endorse me because I believe and support small business and I want to create jobs, unlike the democrats. I've cut each and every tax increase p[resented to me in the Senate and I'll do the same as your next Congressman.

We need to look at Tidal Energy, Bio Fuels, Cold Fusion, Nuclear Plants and the next generation of alternative energy, American based resources.

Chesapeake Trash Removal SUCKS!

"Good Morning Mr. Albero,

This morning my wife informed me of something both funny and sad; my McCain sign was squashed by one of Chesapeake Waste Industries Employees when they "deliberately" placed the can back from where they picked it up from -- approximately 4 feet from where they picked it up from. I'm all in favor for people having the right to think and say what they want but I do have a problem with with individuals who disrespect my right to say what I want or feel. I've included some pictures for your viewing
pleasure and I hope that other McCain supporters who use Chesapeake Waste for their trash removal do not receive the same care that I received from its employees. You will be able to see from the pictures that the location of the can is nearly 4 feet away from the spot on the corner of the driveway.

Thanks for all that you do and keep up the good work."

Burglar victims wake to spice rub, sausage attack
By Louis Galvan / The Fresno Bee

A burglar who broke into a home just east of Fresno rubbed food seasoning over the body of one of two men as they slept in their rooms and then used an 8-inch sausage to whack the other man on the face and head before running out of the house, Fresno County sheriff's deputies said Saturday.

Lt. Ian Burrimond, describing the crime as one of the strangest he's ever heard of, said a suspect was found hiding in a nearby field a few minutes later and taken into custody on suspicion of residential robbery.

Deputies, he said, had no problem linking the suspect to the crime.

Antonio Vasquez Jr.

"It seems the guy ran out of the house wearing only a T-shirt, boxer shorts and socks, leaving behind his wallet with his ID," Burrimond said.

Arrested was Antonio Vasquez Jr., 21, of Fresno.

Burrimond said deputies headed to the victims' home in the 300 block of South Thompson Avenue near Kings Canyon Road shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday regarding a burglary in progress.

The victims, both farmworkers, told deputies they were awakened by a stranger applying "Pappy's Seasoning" to one of them and striking the other with a sausage.

Both the spices and the sausage, Burrimond said, reportedly were obtained from the victims' kitchen.

After the man fled, the victims discovered the home had been ransacked and that some money was taken, Burrimond said.

Burrimond said the money was recovered, but that the piece of sausage used in the attack was discarded by the suspect and eaten by a dog.

"That's right, the dog ate the weapon," Burrimond said.

"I tell you, this was one weird case."

Two New Officers Join The Princess Anne Police Department

Monday night two new Officers on the right were introduced to the community of Princess Anne.

Mr. Wade Chambers is a former Salisbury Police Officer with more than 20 years experience under his belt.

Mr. Jerome Stanford, (Mr. Lead Foot) has 5 years experience.

Both Officers were welcomed last night by the Town Commissioners and Citizens at a meeting held at UMES. The Town holds two meetings a year on Campus.

Good Luck Guys and Welcome to Princess Anne.

All Seniors Aren't Senile!!!

An older, white haired man walked into a jewelry store one Friday evening with a beautiful young gal at his side.

He told the jeweler he was looking for a special ring for his girlfriend.

The jeweler looked through his stock and brought out a $5,000 ring.

The old man said, "No, I'd like to see something more special."

At that statement, the jeweler went to his special stock and brought another ring over. "Here's a stunning ring at only $40,000" the jeweler said.

The young lady's eyes sparkled and her whole body trembled with excitement.

The old man seeing this said, "We'll take it."

The jeweler asked how payment would be made and the old man stated, "by check. I know you need to make sure my check is good, so I'll write it now and you can call the bank Monday to verify the funds and I'll pick the ring up Monday afternoon," he said.

Monday morning, the jeweler phoned the old man. "There's no money in that account."

"I know," said the old man, "But let me tell you about my weekend!

Breaking News

Princess Anne:

Attorneys for the Town of Princess Anne have advised the Commissioners that they should move forward with taking back the Water Plant from the Sanitation District.

The Sanitation District has had control of the water and what can and can't be done with growth since 1959 and has not kept the system updated in years.

They chose to fight the Commissioners and the attorneys representing the Town stated, "Princess Anne has the right to take it back."

Expect to hear updated news and information on this through the Governor's Office in the very near future. That's right Daily Times. While your people are asleep at the wheel, send someone out to do some checking on this matter. You'll find I know exactly what I'm talking about and you've been scooped once again.

I hear a bomb, (a figure of speech) is going to go off out there Wednesday.

What Happened to All of That Audit Experience Louise?

Remember CANDIDATE Louise Smith telling us all that she would make sure that the city's audit would get done on time?  Do you remember reading in Tuesday's Daily Times that this year's audit WOULD be on time?

Will it?  Of course not.  Since when has Louise Smith told us the truth about something substantive?  If the Daily Times had bothered doing a little checking, they would know that this year's audit will be AT LEAST two months late.

The trick is making up a NEW deadline and telling the public that is the one that counts.  Maryland law and the Salisbury City Charter don't count if you're Louise Smith or Barrie Tilghman.  Read More ...
