Annapolis - Today, State Senator Andy Harris M.D. praised the Supreme Court's landmark ruling reaffirming our Second Amendment rights. For the first time United States history, the Supreme Court ruled that individual Americans have the right to own firearms for personal use. The ruling struck down the District of Columbia's ban on handguns.

As a naval officer with expert pistol qualification who believes in the historical basis and the value of the 2nd Amendment, Andy supports the right of all law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. As a State Senator, Andy routinely receives "A+" ratings from the NRA for his support of Second Amendment rights. Andy is a lifetime member of the NRA.

"Today's ruling is a victory for individual rights and personal liberty." said Senator Harris. "Gun-grabbing liberals should take note that the Constitution clearly states Americans have the right to own firearms and the Supreme Court reaffirmed that today"

Andy took the occasion of the court's ruling today to announce his "Prescription for Protecting Our Second Amendment Rights." The plan has four parts:

1. The right to keep and bear arms is an individual right that cannot be taken away from a law-abiding citizen. Therefore, the federal government does not have the authority to keep records of who does and who does not possess firearms.

2. National right-to-carry laws with reciprocity should be enacted.

3. The right to self-defense means that every American should be permitted to take any means necessary to protect their home, their possessions, and their loved ones from loss or harm - without fear of government or personal legal action when self-defense is used. Laws confirming that right of self-defense should be enacted.

4. Public lands should be made available to citizens for legal hunting.

BREAKING NEWS! UPS Gets The Shaft!

Moments ago UPS was in the GOB delivering packages when all of a sudden there was a 911 call and the Salisbury Fire Department swarmed the building. It turns out the UPS Driver was stuck in the elevator and they had to rescue him from within the shaft.

Heroically, the Driver refused to be rescued without them taking the package he was delivering out of the elevator FIRST! Both package and Driver are safe and sound and the elevator company has been called in to do immediate repairs.

Now I understand why their uniforms are BROWN! Would have scared the sh!t out of me too.

Stevens adds that, "we have limited historical experience with some of this new equipment," saying also, "there may be some equipment failures."

Sysco Employees Hold their Collective Breath

I was informed today that Lankford Sysco is getting ready to make yet another cut. This time upwards of 30 employees will be informed by this Friday if they are the ones loosing their jobs or not.

Sources say that cuts are going across the board this time; from upper level management to the folks working the docks.

Times are getting tougher and tougher and it seems that there is no one anywhere especially here on the shore that is immune from the recession that we are experiencing.

Lankford Sysco is certainly Pocomoke's anchor employer that has consistently provided bread winner jobs for many of our local families for many many years. After cuts earlier this year, it's anyone's guess who will be next.

What an absolute shame this is. America's only GNP is war, and we hit an economic landslide such as this one of the first things consumers stop doing is eating out.

It's time to wake up America and call your Senators and Congressmen and tell them that this NAFTA and GAT is a complete and utter failure. It has caused our country to be consumers and not producers and when we don't produce anything to sell, we can't afford to consume.

I sincerely wish the very best for the Lankfords, and for the families that these cuts will affect. Keep them in your prayers and keep our country in your prayers.

McDonald's In Fruitland Sucks

Yesterday a friend of mine went to the McDonald's near the Bowling Alley on Rt. 13 to pick up a cup of iced coffee. She went through the Drive Thru and by the time she was pulling away she took one sip and stopped dead in her tracks, parked the car and went inside to get her money back or get a FRESH cup.

To make a long story short, while standing in line one of the employees dumped a 3 or 5 gallon bucket of iced tea on this friend, completely drenching her from head to toe, as well as some other people standing there.

Not once did they apologize, seriously! My friend's Husband got on the phone and called corporate McDonald's and they did nothing. She had to call into work and tell them she was going to go all the way back home, take a shower, get dressed and then finally come into work. The time lost here was also unreal.

Not for nothing Folks but I NEVER, and I do mean NEVER go to McDonald's, period. This will keep me away for yet another 20 years!

Rescue Kitten Update

The skinny little shy kitten that arrived at our home a week or so ago now has a belly and some meat on his bones. Yeah, we've even taken him indoors and quite frankly we can't get enough of his sharp little claws/nails sticking us constantly as he climbs up our legs to get our attention. "09o98" He just jumped on the keyboard and made this previous quote. LOL I made it bold.

What the hell happened to the United States Post Office?

As I always recalled, the Post Office had hours of 8 to 5 and now it's 9:30 to 4:30? Talk about a load of crap! Yes, this is even at the main Post Office. What Idiot came up with these hours as being convenient for the CUSTOMERS spending the money to keep these a$$holes in business?

OK, now come back and blast me and tell me how long this has been going on.

I should add, my Mother In Law just came by and filled me in on the Post Office hours. I have not personally seen these hours but she just came from two different locations and stated they posted new hours.

I don't care what you say, 262 comments in just one day is remarkable! Let's see, on Michael's Site it would take about six months to reach those numbers and Duvall, well, perhaps a year? We did it in just one day. Pop a Nitro pill Billy, we wouldn't want to read about you in the "B" section of the Daily Times tomorrow.

SALISBURY NEWS VURSES THE DAILY TIMES

I'll try and be brief as I know your news agency is deluged with hordes of emails to you.

This morning I woke-up and turned on my computer as I do every day. The first site I go to is your news agency, www.SBYnews.com. After I finished reading your news I went out to my mailbox and retrieved The Daily Times. Upon scanning the front page section, something struck me like never before. My general observation is The Daily Times is trying to restrain the news as opposed to SBYnews exposing news. There is a stark contrast when comparing the two news medias.

I've watched it year-in-year out with The Daily Times dwelling on old news - (i.e. Wicomico Youth & Civic Center, Board of Education Budgets, Poultry Industry) - as noted on the front page of today's edition. Your news agency is more interactive with daily occurrences whereby I can better identify with.

Moreover, from my vantage point it is obvious that their reporters are being 'spoon fed' information as opposed to their being subjective.

Joe, this morning I'm cancelling my subscription to The Daily Times because I just can't buy into it anymore.

Thank you very much Salisbury News for removing the shadow from our citizenry.

UPDATE ON REPEAL OF BELOW COST SALE OF GASOLINE

Here is an update on the status of HB 1601 - Repealing Provisions of law that prohibit a retail service station dealer from selling motor fuel below cost.

The House Bill was sponsored by Delegate Warren Miller of Howard County, to repeal the foolish Maryland Law that costs Marylanders undue pain and hardship at the pump.

Bottom line. . . it was given a death sentence by certain members of The House Economic Matters committee.

From my own personal observation. . . I wish the Maryland Legislature would never convene because every time they do they end-up doing more harm than good. This is yet another classic example where enactment of the law cost Marylanders dearly.

Extension Of Ban On Fly Ash Sought

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold said yesterday he will seek legislation to extend a ban on the dumping of fly ash in the county until October 2009.

The ban ends in October of this year, and Leopold said that fly ash previously dumped by Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. in a Gambrills pit continues to pose health risks.

Fly ash is a byproduct of burning coal and is captured by special equipment in the chimneys of power plants.

Constellation Energy, of which BGE is a subsidiary, worked with a contractor to dump 800,000 of tons of waste ash for 12 years ending in 2007 from its Brandon Shores coal-fired power plant into an unlined former grave

County tests found that 23 wells in the area tested positive for dangerous metals such as arsenic, cadmium and thallium, all components of ash from smokestacks.

On Oct. 1, the Maryland Department of the Environment imposed a $1 million fine on Constellation and the contractor, BBSS Inc. and ordered them to clean up the contamination. The County Council on that same date banned the dumping of waste ash in the county for one year.

Painting Dropped Off At Goodwill Auctioned For $40 Grand

EASTON, Md. — A painting dropped off at an Easton Goodwill store turned out to be a work by a French Impressionist. And now, thanks to the sharp eye of a store employee, the charitable organization is $40,000 richer.

The painting of a Parisian street scene left at the store in March along with the daily donations of pots, pans, old clock radio and other items turned out to be a work by Edouard-Leon Cortes. The painting was sold for $40,600 at a Sotheby's auction a few weeks ago.

If the owner of the painting wants the money, he or she may be out of luck. Goodwill says it doesn't keep track of donors. Donations, meanwhile, are gifts that are considered legal and final transactions.

Correction Requested from Board of Ed

In relation to an article in Wednesday's Daily Times and our post covering the WCBOE meeting the Daily Times, Delmarva Dealings, and Salisbury News have all received an email WCBOE chairwoman Robin Holloway asking for a correction.

Our reporting of the quote was based on the Daily Times article. The Daily Times has not chosen to correct their quote of interim Superintendent Tom Fields. While we have had issues with Daily Times coverage of several issues, they have not involved the misquoting of individuals. Therefore, we are standing by yesterday's post.

The Daily Times has printed a letter to the editor from Ms. Holloway communicating her point of view on this matter.

Is This Our Near Future In The USA?

My Bee's Are Doing Great!!

Maryland Department of Agriculture Apiary Inspector and Master Beekeeper Dean Burroughs came and inspected my hives yesterday.
My 6 year old colony with a 1 year old queen is brimming with honey and Dean says they are doing great.

As I told you in an earlier story, my other colony which I had kept out at my Granddads in Stockton, had died last year. I didn't want to purchase another colony, I wanted to try to start a hive on my own so this is what I did.

I went into my old hive and looked in the brood boxes and found a frame that had two queen brood sacs attached to it. I took this frame which was also filled with dozens of worker bees and placed it in hive in which the former colony had died. I then took two more brood frames out of the old hive; knocked off the bee's and then placed those frames in the new hive as well.

My hope was that the worker bees would feed and take care of the queen sacs and hatch them, then also take care of the brood that I had transferred over from the other hive as well. And it worked!

This is totally amazing to me. From what I have been told this is very iffy and unreliable, but it worked for me and I am stoked!

Dean recommended I feed them immediately as since they are so young there are not yet enough workers to provide enough food for them all yet and the queen will lay more eggs if there is a consistent food source.

Honey robbing time is quickly approaching. Karole and I usually do it the week after 4th of July.
She has a spinner and I help her with her hives and she lets me spin my honey.

I'll keep you posted on how much honey I get.

For all of you who are interested in seeing the robbing and spinning process, email me and I'll be happy to make arrangements so you can come down and be a part. It is an all day event, that involves eating, laughing, maybe getting stung once or twice and at least one bottle of wine.

With all of the honey we ingest on this day, I don't know what really gives us the buzz, the wine or the honey!

MORE REASONS FOR MARYLANDERS TO EXODUS STATE

Joe, once again I have to tip my hat to you for uncovering this Maryland Law atrocity.

I can tell you why all of the strip stations are not offering the Maryland public discounted prices on gasoline.

And you. . . the Maryland taxpaying public will not be reading about this in The Daily Times.

Because it is against Maryland Law for stations to sell the taxpaying public discounted gas. If they do. . . the Maryland Legislature has authorized severe penalties for the gas station dealers.

Bottom line. . . the Maryland Taxpayers are the ones getting royally screwed by none other than their elected officials.

Current Law: Retail service stations are prohibited from selling motor fuel below cost except under limited circumstances. "Below cost" is defined as a price that is less than the total of: (1) the most recently published average reseller rack cost of motor fuel by grad and quality, as calculated by the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), for particular terminal from which the motor fuel was delivered to the retail service station dealer, or the actual invoice cost from the supplier of the product, whichever is lower; and (2) the freight charges and all applicable federal, State, and local taxes not included in the invoice cost.

2) conduct a public hearing on Ordinance No. 2058 (amending parking permit and
meter rates); and
3) approve Resolution No. 1661 (accepting 2009 CSAFE funds).
