Real estate mogul and The Apprentice star Donald Trump is headed to Iowa on Saturday night to address a conservative group. He told Breitbart News in a phone interview from his plane as it was leaving La Guardia airport in New York City that he is excited to address the large crowd waiting for him in Iowa.
Trump said the event, the Family Leadership Summit, has a “record-setting” crowd size and a “record-setting” amount of press for a non-election year. “We’re setting records both in the number of press and the number of people, that’s great,” Trump said. “I look forward to it.”
Trump is giving the keynote speech on Saturday night.

TEEN HANNAH ANDERSON FOUND SAFE IN IDAHO; ALLEGED ABDUCTOR SHOT DEAD BY FBI, CNN REPORTS
San Diego County Sheriff’s officials say 16-year-old Hannah Anderson has been found safe in Idaho and her alleged abductor was shot dead by FBI agents, according to CNN.
The confrontation between 40-year-old James Lee DiMaggio and the FBI happened after a campsite was spotted from the air, according to San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore, who saidd DiMaggio was killed in the shootout, but declined to discuss details, saying authorities in Idaho will release details at a news conference planned Saturday evening.
He said San Diego sheriff’s authorities have notified Hannah’s father that she was rescued. “He was very relieved and very excited and looking forward to be reunited with his daughter,” Gore said.

Obamacare Is A Nuclear Missile That Must Be Shot Down
Instead of the GOP focusing all its energy on infighting over the so-called “tactical” decision of whether to defund Obamacare, how about remembering who the real enemies of freedom are and directing its energies toward the Democrats, who are propping up this monster?
It is painful to witness the expenditure of so much negative energy among people who all say they oppose the law. This law is so bad and so unpopular and its negative consequences so apparent that we would have to be complete incompetents not to be able to make this case to the American people, the majority of whom already agree.
Why not rip a page right out of President Obama’s political playbook and go directly to the people? It obviously works for Obama, even though he doesn’t have the facts or history on his side; there has never been such a radical disconnect between a president’s miserable record and his approval ratings.

FCC Votes To Reduce Rates For Prison Phone Calls
For millions of prisoners, placing a call home means paying exorbitant rates that can exceed $1 a minute. Now, federal regulators have moved to ease the burden.
Three commissioners with the Federal Communications Commission voted 2 to 1 Friday to reduce the rates inmates and their families pay for interstate calls from prison, a measure long demanded by civil rights groups. It will take about 120 days for the new rates to take affect.
A typical 15-minute, state-to-state call costs $17 in some states, compared to about $1 in New York, where prison phone rates have already been reformed. That can make communication with family members prohibitively expensive for many inmates.

City To Dock HVAC Contractor After Neglect Of Maintenance
For the second time in recent memory, the city has been forced to do some extra work after one of its major service providers gave the resort the brush-off in anticipation of dropping a contract.
This week, the city approved a $16,950 expenditure to repair the chiller system at the convention center, and will be deducting the cost from its final payment to its previous HVAC maintenance contractor, who was allegedly unable to show the proper documentation that it had done required maintenance on the convention center’s cooling system.
The city issues a single contract for routine maintenance of the heating and air conditioning systems in all city-owned buildings, city Public Works Director Hal Adkins said. Johnson Controls held that contract for many years, but the company did not bid on the its renewal this year, and in July the contract was turned over to Electrical Automation Systems, Inc.

TYRANNY – IT’S WHAT’S FOR BREAKFAST
Tyranny was a word that was used frequently during the founding period of this country. Its usage is rampant once again.
The word tyranny is thrown around rather carelessly, especially when politicians invoke it. When Bush was president, it was a popular Democrat word. With Obama in office, it is used as frequently, but now by Republicans and rarely by Democrats. Tyranny and accusations of it are serious. Sadly, politicians use it whenever they disagree with the policies of the opposing party.
True tyranny is serious and should not be used as a tool to smear political opponents. It is a specific condition, one which the Founders found serious enough to initiate a revolt against England.
Now it is used more as political invective than in its true meaning. Sadly, the politicians who bandy the word about for advantage are unaware of true tyranny or that they are guilty of committing it.

City Unclear How $6k Parking Fee Was Missed
The establishment of a new commercial parking arrangement on 66th Street seems to have thrown light on the city’s failure to collect two years’ worth of payments on a similar agreement on Jamestown Road.
Councilwoman Margaret Pillas said at Monday night’s council meeting that she had been made aware that a tenant of city property at 103 Jamestown Road was behind on rent.
“This is a delinquent account,” Pillas said. “I was just questioning what the process is after staff is unable to get this property to pay off its account.”

Big Banks Conspiracy Is Destroying America
All Big Banks now competing to be next Goldman Bubble Machine
Get it? Every bank in the world is now a Goldman wannabe. A subtle conspiracy. That’s globalization and capitalism at its best, all competing for a piece of the action, for the top spot formerly held by Goldman Sachs. Yes, a few short years ago Goldman Sachs was “the world’s most powerful investment bank.”
Today’s world includes four Wall Street banks each with assets over $1 trillion, each more than Goldman. Plus eight other big global banks each have over $2 trillion total assets, including, among the 100 largest, Barclays, HSBC, Deutsche, ICB-China and Japan’s Mitsubishi.
Yes, this new world is changing fast. Back in 2008 the world’s financial banks were in ruins. Wall Street sunk into virtually bankruptcy. Goldman and its Wall Street too-big-to-fail co-conspirators had trashed the global economy, triggered a virtual depression, and Wall Street’s casinos lost over $10 trillion of Main Street retirement funds.

Md. Coastal Bays Program To Trim Research After Sequestration Cuts
The Maryland Coastal Bays Program will lose $88,000 from its annual budget following sequestration cuts set in motion by Congress earlier this year.
The change will go into effect Oct. 1, the beginning the fiscal year for the program, and means trimming some programs in the Southern Bays, Coastal Bays Executive Director Dave Wilson said.
“When the federal government loses 9 percent of its budget, it hurts everybody,” he said.

Obama Administration Using Housing Department To Compel Diversity In Neighborhoods
In a move some claim is tantamount to social engineering, the Department of Housing and Urban Development is imposing a new rule that would allow the feds to track diversity in America’s neighborhoods and then push policies to change those it deems discriminatory.
The policy is called, "Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing." It will require HUD to gather data on segregation and discrimination in every single neighborhood and try to remedy it.
HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan unveiled the federal rule at the NAACP convention in July.

Man Returns Bike With Bent Back Wheel
Clearly he didn't put the wheel on the bike all bent up, yet he felt he should return the bike after destroying the rear wheel. Maybe the next time he should refrain from leaving it behind the car so he doesn't back over it and say it was defective. My guess, WalMart took it back.
Crowd Estimate Formula Needs Some Tweaking
OCEAN CITY – For many years Demoflush has estimated Ocean City’s tourism population but the questionable metric has become even more skewed as more efficient equipment is being installed in homes and in the town’s wastewater treatment plant.
During a discussion over an increase in room tax collected in the last fiscal year at the Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday evening, it was brought to attention that the Demoflush formula has become even more slanted in representing the estimation of population in town due to more efficient equipment being installed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) over a year ago.
Demoflush figures are estimations on the population in Ocean City based on wastewater flow from Ocean City provided by the Ocean City Wastewater Division and calculated by the resort government’s Tourism Department.

6 Ways To Make A Lasting Impression
It's hard to be influential without making a lasting impression, hopefully in a positive way.
Dale Carnegie devotes a major part of "How to Win Friends and Influence People in the Digital Age" to discussing exactly how you can impress people.
Here are some highlights:
1. Take interest in others' interests
We are so busy today that it's difficult to make the time to get to know other people. Therefore, when you take the time to get to know someone else, they'll be grateful for that time.
"Even if you are not actively involved in clubs, groups, or local organizations where face-to-face interactions are possible, there is still an abundance of opportunities to learn about others' passions and concerns," Carnegie writes." The bottom line is that you must become genuinely interested in others before you can expect anyone to be interested in you."

Tall Ship Event Finalized For Aug.
The City Council gave formal approval this week to go ahead with plan to bring a 17th century sailing vessel to berth in downtown Ocean City at the end of the month.
“We had some changes in date, but as of now we’re back to the Aug. 20 to Sept. 2 timeframe,” city Special Events Director Frank Miller said.
The 170-foot-long vessel will be moored on along the bayside boardwalk, on Chicago Avenue from Third to Fourth streets. The northern, one-way portion of Chicago Avenue and the attached parking spaces will be closed and used for vendors, exhibits and staging tours of the ship itself.

The Domestic Spying State
How is it that the government can charge Edward Snowden with espionage for telling a journalist that the feds have been spying on all Americans and many of our allies, but the NSA itself, in a public relations campaign intended to win support for its lawlessness, can reveal secrets and do so with impunity? That question goes to the heart of the rule of law in a free society.
Since Snowden’s June 6th revelations about massive NSA spying, we have learned that all Americans who communicate via telephone or the Internet (who doesn’t?) have had all of their communications swept up by the federal government for two-plus years. The government initially claimed that the NSA has gathered only telephone numbers and billing data. Now we know that the NSA has captured and stored the content of trillions of telephone conversations, texts and emails, and can access that content at the press of a few computer keys. All of this happened in the dark, with the permission of President Obama, with the knowledge and consent of fewer than 20 members of Congress who were forbidden from doing anything about it by the laws they themselves had written, and based on secret legal arguments accepted by a secret court that keeps its records secret even from the judges who sit on the court.

Council’s Room Tax Debate Called ‘Disruptive’ By City Manager
OCEAN CITY – A report on this summer’s key financial indicators sparked a debate this week among the resort’s elected officials who continue to be divided on all matters tourism related.
City Manager David Recor and Budget Manager Jennie Knapp brought up what they thought was good news of room tax increasing this summer at this week’s Mayor and Council meeting.
“The budget manager and I have been looking at some of our tax receipts, gross room tax, admissions tax and our food tax, and these metrics tell the real story in terms of our revenue and performance,” Recor said.

Did Uncle Sam Leave 15,000 To 20,000 GIs In Stalin’s Hands?
This is the fifth and final part in a series based on the new book American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character (St. Martin’s Press) by Diana West.
On March 3, 1945, under prodding from both the senior US military commander and US ambassador in Moscow, FDR cabled Stalin to request “urgently” that provisions be made for ten American rescue crews to move in and out of Soviet-captured territories to evacuate liberated American prisoners or war, many of whom required medical attention. With uncharacteristic punch, FDR underscored his request as being “of the greatest importance.”
On March 5, 1945, Stalin replied: Nyet. There were no groups of American ex-POWs in the Red zone, so no flights necessary. The Soviets would tell the British the same thing about an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 British ex-prisoners.

Outraged Bondholders Sue "Brazen" Eminently Domaining California Town
While the likes of PIMCO, BlackRock, DoubleLine, and Wells Fargo are major RMBS holders, their reasons for seeking a court order to block Richmond, California's Eminent Domain seizure of mortgages are applicable (and should be worrisome) for all US citizens. As we have noted previously, the asset managers warn that the Mortgage Resolution Partners actions will "seriously harm average Americans, including pension members, other retirees and individual savers through a brazen scheme to abuse government powers for its own profit." While the Richmond Mayor stands by her decision, the investors argue that this plan is unconstitutional and discriminatory - sounds just about right in our new normal.
Of course, with President Obama's new 'better bargain for the middle class' and his partnership with Zillow, nothing would surprise us that this becomes the new normal wealth transfer mechanism... but once again few will have considered the unintended consequences...

Copper Wire Thefts Throughout Area Blamed On Heroin Addiction
A 29-year-old man was sentenced last week to eight years in prison, with all but one year and one day suspended, for stealing copper wire from Delmarva Power numerous times to subsidize his heroin addiction.
“If you had taken the effort you put forth in breaking into these [electrical substation] yards into rehabilitation, you’d be better off,” Judge Thomas C. Groton III told Timothy Hughes of Ocean Pines in Circuit Court in Snow Hill on Aug. 1.
Hughes had pleaded guilty to participating in a scheme to steal items with a value of a least $10,000, but less than $100,000. In exchange for that guilty plea, many charges against him were not prosecuted.

New Flood Zones Worry County
SNOW HILL -- New Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs) have the Worcester County Commissioners worried due to the unanticipated alterations of floodplains in sections of the county.
“They are kind of not what we expected,” said Development Review and Permitting Director Ed Tudor of the preliminary FIRMs.
For years the impression that Tudor said he has received from agencies like the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is that floodplains were expanding and more areas would likely require flood insurance. But the new maps do not reflect that thinking in Worcester.

Yeah, Why?
Why would the IRS talk with the Federal Election Commission about politically active groups applying for tax exemptions? That's the latest angle House investigators are pursuing as they look into the IRS treatment of the organizations. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee says FEC officials have emailed the IRS for information. In particular, they've gone to former division director Lois Lerner. The committee is pressuring Lerner to return to Capitol Hill to testify. She invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination in an earlier hearing.
