HUSBAND AND WIFE BURGLARY TEAM ARRESTED IN CARROLL COUNTY - MAN CHARGED WITH MORE THAN ONE DOZEN BURGLARIES
(Westminster, MD) – A husband and wife have been arrested and charged in connection with multiple burglaries in Carroll County that have involved thousands of dollars worth of stolen cash and property.
The man is identified as Jerome M. Herron, 41, of the unit-block of Carroll Street, Westminster, Md. Troopers charged Herron on a warrant today with 11 counts of first degree burglary, two counts of third degree burglary, seven counts of malicious destruction of property, 12 counts of theft, four counts of conspiracy to commit theft, four counts of conspiracy to commit burglary, and one count of credit card theft. The charges were served on Jerome Herron at the Carroll County Detention Center, where he has been held since his arrest on July 3, 2009.
The woman is identified as Tina B. Herron, 34, of the same address as her husband. She is charged with six counts each of first degree burglary, third degree burglary, fourth degree theft, theft, and conspiracy to commit theft. She is also charged with one count each of malicious destruction of property, participating in a theft scheme, possession of marijuana, and possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. She was arrested at her home on the evening of July 21, 2009 and is currently being held in the Carroll County Detention Center on $7,500 bond.
Tina Herron is charged in connection with six burglaries committed in Carroll County in October of 2008 and May of 2009. Jerome Herron is charged in connection with 14 burglaries committed in Carroll County from April through July of this year.
Troopers had taken burglary reports and were conducting follow up investigations on one burglary in October of last year, and other burglaries committed in April, May, June and July of this year. The residential burglaries occurred in the areas of Westminster, Sykesville, Upperco, Taneytown, Finksburg, Woodbine, and Mt. Airy.
Troopers in the Westminster Barracks Criminal Investigation Section found similarities among several of the burglaries. They developed witness information about a red and silver pickup in the area of some of the burglaries and a physical description of a suspect.
On July 3, 2009, Jerome Herron was arrested by state troopers at about 9:00 p.m. after they responded to a call for a burglary in progress in the 5900-block of Snowdens Run Road, Sykesville, and found Herron nearby. Herron was operating a 1988 red and silver Ford F-150 pickup truck registered to his wife, Tina. Further investigation by troopers led to evidence connecting Jerome Herron and his wife to the other burglaries they are charged with. .
The homes were entered after a window was broken, a sliding door pried loose, or through an unlocked door. Jewelry, power tools, cash, prescription drugs, guns, iPods, video game systems, and binoculars were among the items taken in the burglaries. The investigation revealed some of the items were sold for cash and some were converted to the use of the couple.
Troopers have recovered some of the stolen items and returned them to their owners. The search for additional stolen property continues.
Troopers are still attempting to identify the owners of some of the recovered stolen property. This includes currency issued by the Japanese during their occupation of the Philippines in World War II and a silver U.S. coin from 1877. The owner(s) of these items or anyone who has questions or information about the burglaries or stolen property involved is encouraged to call the Westminster Barracks Criminal Investigation Section at 410-386-3000.
This investigation is continuing. Additional charges are possible.

Bin Laden Son May Have Been Killed
Though many in the intelligence community believe he is dead, they can't be 100 percent certain because no body or DNA evidence was recovered to prove it, one official said.
The U.S. has carried out more than 45 missile attacks with drones in Pakistan's border region since last August, most targeting foreign al-Qaida militants and those accused of violence in neighboring Afghanistan. Saad was not considered a heavy hitter in his father's organization and was not the target of the strike, but rather was killed during a strike intended for someone else, National Public Radio said, quoting unidentified officials.

Senate Won’t Vote On Health Care Overhaul Before Recess
WASHINGTON — The Senate will not vote on health care legislation before leaving for its summer recess, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday, as he finally acknowledged out loud the inescapable political reality that has been clear for several days.
President Obama brushed aside the delay on Thursday, burying his reaction 20 minutes into a speech he delivered in the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights, where he traveled to make his case for the urgent need to change the nation’s health care system.
“We just heard today that we may not be able to get the bill out of the Senate by the end of August or the beginning of August,” Mr. Obama told a crowd of more than 1,500 people gathered in a gymnasium. “That’s O.K. I just want people to keep on working. Just keep on working.”

Obama Appoints 2 Devout Muslims To Homeland Security Posts
Arif Alikhan as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development
Source for announcement:
Homeland Security Press Room
"Today, I am proud to make two key personnel announcements for the U.S.. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) President Obama’s intent to nominate David Heyman as Assistant Secretary forPolicy and my appointment of Arif Alikhan as Assistant Secretary for Policy Development.. Arif comes from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa’s office, where he served as Deputy Mayor for Homeland Security and Public Safety. As a key adviser to the Mayor, he has led the City’s efforts to develop homeland security, emergency management and law enforcement initiatives, including operational oversight of Los Angeles Police, Fire a nd Emergency Management departments." said Secretary Janet Napolitano
The Islamic loving Obama has appointed Arif Alikhan a devout Sunni Muslim to assistant secretary for the Office of Policy Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Alikhan was instrumental in taking down the LA Police Department's plan to monitor it's Muslim community.
Alikhan is affiliated with MPAC, the "Muslim Public Affairs Council".
"Founded in 1988, the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) describes itself as "a public service agency working for the civil rights of American Muslims, for the integration of Islam into American pluralism, and for a positive, constructive relationship between American Muslims and their representatives." The organization consists of eight chapters in California, and one each inTexas, Kansas, Nevada, and Iowa."
From its inception, MPAC presented itself20as more inclusive, and more open to peaceful coexistence with Jews and Christians, than other Arab and Muslim groups, and sought to make Americans comfortable with Islam by showin g how much the religion embraced core American values.
However, looking deeper into this group:
MPAC's Senior Advisor, Maher Hathout, who has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and espouses the radical brand of Islam known as Wahhabism, was invited to address the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles in 2000.
MPAC's centrist public image unraveled after the September 2000 launching of the Second Palestinian Intifada, when the Council severed its ties to the Jewish community and issued one-sided condemnations of Israel's response to the Arab violence.
This group actively opposed Bush's military incursions into Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as his "excesses" in the war on terror. In February 2003, MPAC joined the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the American Muslim Council, and the American Muslim Alliance in forming a coalition to repeal and amend the Patriot Act, which these organizations depicted as an assault on the civil liberties of Americans, particularly Muslims.
MPAC claims that Islam is a religion of peace and moderation, and contends that Muslim extremists are no more numerous or dangerous than fundamentalists in any other faith.
Holding Israel entirely responsible for the "pattern of violence" in the Middle East, MPAC asserts that Hezbollah "could be called a=2 0liberation movement." The Council likens Hezbollah members to American "freedom fighters hundreds of years ago whom the British regarded as terrorists."
In a 1999 position paper, MPAC justified Hezbollah's deadly 1983 bombing of the American Marine barracks in Lebanon as a "military operation" rather than a terrorist attack. 1983 Beirutbarracks bombing, which killed=2 0299 servicemen, including 220 U.S. Marines. As Maher Hathout puts it: "Hezbollah is fighting for freedom, an organized army, limiting its operations against military people, this is a legitimate target against occupation. … this is legitimate, this is an American value -- freedom and liberty."
Shora, who was born in Damascus, Syria
Kareem Shora Appointed by DHS Secretary Napolitano on Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC)
Washington, DC
June 5, 2009
http://www.adc.org/index.php?id=3458
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) is proud to announce that earlier today at a ceremony held inAlbuquerque, New Mexico, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swore-in ADC National Executive Director Kareem Shora as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).
Aaron Klein, wrote about this at wnd
Napolitano adds adviser with ties to terror backers
Swears in leader of Arab group that hailed jihadists as 'heroes'
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano swore in to her official advisory council the head of an Arab American organization whose officials have labeled deadly anti-U.S. jihadists as "heroes" and opposed referring to Hamas as a terrorist organization.
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, or ADC, also has close ties to anti-Israel professor Rashid Khalidi, whose association with President Obama – first exposed by WND – stirred controversy during last year's presidential campaign.
The ADC takes an openly anti-Israel line.
The ADC also leads the opposition to domestic anti-terrorism measures taken after the 9-11 attacks, such as watch lists, background check delays for visas and an initiative meant to more comprehensively screen visitors from select < style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; COLOR: red; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana">Mideast countries or specific individuals labeled as possible national security threats.
In 1994, during one of the main peaks of Hamas suicide bombings against Israeli civilians, then-ADC President Hamzi Moghrabi said, "I will not call [Hamas] a terrorist organization. I mean, I know many people in Hamas. They are very respectable. … I don't believe Hamas, as an organization, is a violent organization."
Discover the Networks notes that two years later, Moghrabi's successor, Hala Maksoud, defended the Hezbollah terrorist group.
"I find it shocking," Maksoud said, "that [one] would include Hezbollah in … [an] inventory of Middle East'terrorist'=2 0groups."
In 2000, new ADC President Hussein Ibish characterized Hezbollah as "a disciplined and responsible liberation force."
When Israel released Hezbollah prisoners in early 2004, Imad Hamad, ADC's Midwest Regional Director, openly celebrated the freedom of "the heroes."
Besides its deadly terrorism against Israel, Hezbollah distinguishes itself as second only to al-Qaida among terror groups responsib le for killing the most Americans. It's responsible for such deadly attacks as the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, which killed 299 servicemen, including 220 U.S. Marines.
ADC linked to Khalidi
The ADC is linked to Columbia University's Khalidi, who spoke at several of the organization's events. At one speech, in June 2002, the New York Sun documented how Khalidi appeared to condone the killing of armed20Israelis.
"Killing civilians is a war crime. It's a violation of international law. They are not soldiers. They're civilians, they're unarmed," Khalidi said in a recorded address. "The ones who are armed, the ones who are soldiers, the ones who are in occupation, that's different. That's resistance."
The ADC also has collaborated on numerous projects with the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, an organization founded by Khalidi's wife Mona, and which WND first reported received start-up funds from a nonprofit, the Woods Fund, on which Obama served as a paid director.
The AAAN, headquartered in the heart of Chicago's Palestinian immigrant community, worked on projects sup porting open boarders and education for illegal aliens. Speakers at AAAN dinners and events routinely have taken an anti-Isra el line. The organization co-sponsored anti-Israel projects and exhibits.
Khalidi, an apologist for PLO terrorism, holds the position of Columbia's Edward Said professorship of Arab Studies. Said, a well-known far-leftist intellectual and apologist for Palestinian terrorism, served on an advisory counsel to the ADC.
ADC opposes anti-terrorism screening
According to the ADC charter, the organization seeks to "empower Arab Americans; defend the civil rights of all people of Arab heritage in the U.S.; pr omote civic participation; and encourage a balanced U.S.foreign policy in the Middle East."
The organization has actively lobbied against the Patriot Act and was reportedly instrumental i n scaling back some of the restrictions of the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System program, or NSEERS. Shora was personally involved in those efforts.
The NSEERS required persons whose nationality identifies them as a possible security risk to submit to control processes governed by the Department of Justice. NSEERS also targeted specific individuals labeled as possible national security threats, at times making them undergo fingerprinting, photographing and registration.
Last week, Napolitano swore in Damascus-born Kareem Shora, the ADC's national executive director, to a position on the Homeland Security Advisory Council, an outside-the-department group of national security experts that advises the secretary. Shora is the first Arab rights advocate on the panel.
At the ceremony in Albequrque, Shora reportedly recounted how he watched with his immigrant father Obama's address last week to the Muslim world. Shora said his father cried when he heard Obama's message of reconciliation.

N.J. McDonald's "Infested" With Worms
Customers headed to the McDonald's on Broad Street were welcomed by a "closed" sign on Wednesday. Why you may ask? They apparently have worms, an infestation of worms, and the health department is now investigating, according to The News of Cumberland County.
Bridgeton Mayor Jim Begley and the Cumberland County freeholder board received a letter from the owners regarding the problem stating they had an "infestation" of the unwanted pests, the paper reported.
Cambridge Police Officer To Obama: Butt Out Of My Arrest
Cambridge, Mass., Sgt. James Crowley arrested Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his home last week after he responded to a report of two black men attempting to break in to Gates' home.
It turned out that Gates, head of Harvard's W.E.B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research, had broken into his own home after being unable to find his keys upon his return from a trip to China.
Asked about the incident, Obama, who is friends with the professor and documentary filmmaker, told reporters at a Wednesday night press conference that he didn't know all the facts. But he said, "the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home."
Crowley told WEEI sports radio network that it was "disappointing that (Obama) waded into what should be a local issue that plays out here."
Will The Daily Times Tell The TRUTH About Crime?
That being said, the Daily Times recently interviewed several people in reference to this detailed information and Salisbury News is wondering, will they actually produce and provide the actual and factual data they were given.
Without a doubt, for the very first time the Daily Times will be called out in advance and forced to state the facts. I know I had stated the other day that we were the 10th Most Dangerous City in America but I was wrong, we're the 9th!
It's important that each and every one of you know the TRUTH. It's also important that you know exactly the information the Daily Times puts out and decide for yourself, is it true, is it twisted and can you TRUST them any more.
They can use this story as an example of what's to come in the future. When people continue to grow tired of being open enough to share the information they're interested in, (and making money off of it) and in the end they twist the story, Salisbury News will be there to call them out on it.
Let's see what tomorrow's story brings and we'll bring you that information later today.
In the mean time, GO HERE to see a post we put up referencing this matter back in late March.
ANOTHER EXCLUSIVE SALISBURY NEWS STORY
As local recovery agents, (i.e. Bounty Hunters) they are always looking for ways for people to turn themselves in. Recently they had a guy, (THOMAS KENSEY) who was wanted by the Fruitland Police Department for quite some time. The Fruitland Police tried numerous time to get their man but were unsuccessful.
A local Bail Bond Company was asked to find him and one Bail Bondsman and his Wife came up with a creative way to get their man. While searching him out, they found him on Facebook in Durham, N.C.
Here's the problem. His warrant wasn't extraditable, so they couldn't just go there and get him. That being the case, his Wife came up with the idea, (since his Facebook page showed him at parties all the time with numerous girls) to call him and tell him she was pregnant. She made the call and convinced him he was the Father and the baby was born the day before. She went on to say she couldn't afford the baby and she had no choice but the legally drop the baby off at a local Police Station, unless he wanted to take care of the baby.
Convinced she's telling the truth, Thomas Kensey boarded a Bus, (Greyhound) and headed back to Salisbury to meet what he thought was a Child Welfare Agent to take him to the State Police to get fingerprints and a photo and then take custody of his new day old baby.
To every ones amazement they arrived at the Greyhound Bus Station and the dumbest criminal on earth came off the Bus in Salisbury and got in the fake agents car and drove the the MD State Police Barracks. Once inside a State Trooper said, OK, all we need to do is get your photo and fingerprints and we're done here. He proceeded inside the barracks and that was the end of his story. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
He was wanted for numerous traffic violations and is now being held on a $10,000.00 Bail at the WCDC. Thomas Kensey Wins The Dee, Dee, Deeee of the week award!
Sentz Rallies Against Kratovil
Fla. Hospital Defends Secretly Deporting Patient
During the early hours of a steamy July 2003 morning, Martin Memorial Medical Center chartered a private plane and sent 37-year-old Luis Jimenez back to the Central American country without telling his relatives in the U.S. or Guatemala — even as his legal guardian frantically sought to stop the move.
There, things get murky. The man's guardian, also his cousin, is suing the hospital for essentially deporting Jimenez, who was an illegal immigrant. The hospital, which spent more than $1.5 million on his care over three years, says Jimenez wanted to go home.
Underlying the dispute is the broader question of what's a hospital to do with a patient who requires long-term care, is unable to pay and doesn't qualify for federal or state aid because of his immigration status. Health care and immigration experts across the country are watching the case, which could go to a jury Thursday, and which could set precedent in Florida and possibly beyond. Lawyers for Jimenez said this appears to be the first time a lawsuit has been filed in such a case.

Swallow Your Pride And Seek Aid
By Donna Freedman
MSN Money
The time to swallow your pride is not the day the electricity gets cut off.
Most Americans have never cashed an unemployment check, used a food bank, visited a public health clinic or even clipped coupons with zeal. We like to think that we can take care of ourselves, that we're the kind of people who offer help rather than take it.
That's a swell attitude to have -- until you're looking at a hungry child or an eviction notice. Don't let this happen. Public and private agencies will help you eat, pay the rent, keep the utilities on and get your kids immunized.
Pride shouldn't get in the way of survival. State and federal programs operate with the taxes you've been paying all these years, and private programs exist specifically to help those in temporary need.
Here's what you can expect as you test the public safety net. And remember: When times are better, you can give back.

Wall St. Jacks Up Pay After Government Bailouts
NEW YORK - Wall Street's biggest banks are setting aside billions of dollars more to pay their executives and other employees just months after these firms were rescued with a taxpayer bailout, renewing questions about compensation practices in the aftermath of the financial crisis.
The recent outcry over bonuses at bailed-out firms prompted public alarm and promises of reform from financial leaders, who acknowledged that pay and bonuses should not reward risky short-term business decisions — such as those that contributed to the meltdown — but instead longer-term financial performance.
But Wall Street, helped by improving profits, is on track to pay employees as much as, or even more than, it did in the pre-crisis days. So far this year, the top six U.S. banks have set aside $74 billion to pay their employees, up from $60 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Ford Posts A Surprise Second-Quarter Profit
DEARBORN, Mich. - Ford Motor Co. posted a surprise second-quarter profit of $2.8 billion Thursday, due to income related to a reduction of debt.
The nation’s second-largest automaker said it earned 69 cents a share, compared with a loss of $8.7 billion, or $3.89 a share, for the same quarter a year ago. That quarter was the worst in Ford’s history.
Excluding special items, including the debt reduction, Dearborn, Mich.-based Ford would have lost $424 million, or 21 cents a share, far surpassing analysts’ expectations. Analysts polled Thomson Reuters expected a per share loss of 50 cents on revenue of $24.7 billion.

Obama Missteps Confuse Health Overhaul
WASHINGTON - Determined to avoid the fatal missteps of the Clinton White House, President Barack Obama is wobbling along his own precarious path to try to overhaul the nation's health care.
Where Hillary Rodham Clinton micromanaged the 1990s effort, Obama has given lawmakers lots of room and held back from offering a detailed plan of his own — but with no indication his strategy is working any better.
The sense of bipartisanship the president infused into the effort in March has been dissipated; lawmakers may never have taken it seriously. And the clear, confident message of last year's presidential campaign has turned into confusing policy options and messy politics, a standoff on Capitol Hill over how to expand and improve health coverage — and somehow pay for it.

On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, 'The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents .'
3) KETCHUP
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. 'Mommy can't come to the phone to talk to you right now. S he's hitting the bottle.'
4) MORE NUDITY
A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women's locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, 'What's the matter, haven't you ever seen a little boy before?'
5) POLICE # 1
While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, ' Are you a cop? Yes,' I answered and continued writing the report. My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?' 'Yes, that's right,' I told her. 'Well, then,' she said as she extended her foot toward me, 'would you please tie my shoe?'
6) POLICE # 2
It w as the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me. 'Is that a dog you got back there?' he asked.
'It sur e is,' I replied.
Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, 'What'd he do?'
7) ELDERLY
While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'
8) DRESS-UP
A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, 'Daddy, you shouldn't wear that suit.'
'And why not, darling?'
'You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.'
9) DEATH
While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin.20Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased.
The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity in toned his version of what he thought his father always said: 'Glory be unto the Father, and unto the Son, and into the hole he goes.' (I want this line used at my funeral!)
10) SCHOOL
A little girl had just finished her first week of school. 'I'm just wasting my time,' she said to her mother. 'I can't read, I can't write, and they won't let me talk!'
11) BIBLE
A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through t he old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.
'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out.
'What have you got there, dear?'
With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's Adam's underwear!'
NOW IF THIS DIDN'T BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY, GO BACK TO BED AND FORGET IT
Detroit: The Post-Apocalyptic Future Of American Cities?
These Private Management Companies sell themselves as residual property management firms. Most of these companies, as it turns out, are in fact off-shore subsidiaries of Private Military Contractors (PMCs). They provide a catchall service. In other words, they regulate how much electrical power and natural gas flows through these areas. They also act as police force, and they act as management for local civil government.
However this Urban Wasteland Management has been pretty efficient. They want to protect what remaining wealthy areas that still exist, like Bloomfield Hills. These companies come in and effectively build large barbed wire fences, around these mostly abandoned square block areas. Some people are still living in them, by the way, even though most of them are boarded up because they’re no longer bothering to serve process through the entire foreclosure procedure. Oftentimes once the house has been taken back and is ultimately owned by the city or county or some government, they let the people stay there until it’s abandoned and then taken over by squatters. Then they’re given a 72 hour notice to leave, by this private management company – before they come in and bulldoze the house. If you’re not out, that’s it. The bulldozers run. They can bulldoze the place with you in it – with legal impunity.

Touches The Heart
One Sunday, in counting the money in the weekly offering, the pastor of the Granville Presbyterian church found a pink envelope containing $1,000. It happened again the next week. The following Sunday, he watched as the offering was collected and saw a little old lady put the distinctive pink envelope in the plate. This went on for weeks until the pastor, overcome by curiosity, approached her.
"Ma'am, I couldn't help but notice that you put $1,000 a week in the collection plate," he stated.
"Why yes," she replied, "every week my son sends me money, and I give some of it to the church."
The pastor asked, "That's wonderful, how much does he send you?"
The old lady replied, "$10,000 a week."
The pastor was amazed. "Your son is very successful! What does he do for a living?"
"He is a veterinarian," she answered.
"That is an honorable profession," the pastor said. "Where does he practice?"
The little old lady said proudly, "In Nevada. He has two cat houses in Las Vegas and one in Reno ."

Obamacare For Old Folks: Just 'Cut Your Life Short'
The version of President Obama's universal health care plan pending in the U.S. House would require "end-of-life" counseling for senior citizens, and the former lieutenant governor for the state of New York is warning people to "protect their parents" from the measure.
At issue is section 1233 of the legislative proposal that deals with a government requirement for an "Advance Care Planning Consultation."
Betsy McCaughey, the former New York state officer, told former president candidate Fred Thompson during an interview on his radio program the "consultation" is no more or less than an attempt to convince seniors to die.

Budget Cuts Could End O'Malley's Tuition Freeze
State officials are signaling that Gov. Martin O'Malley's hallmark tuition freeze at public universities could end soon as Maryland grapples with a budget crisis that shows few signs of easing.
"I think the time has come to look at moderate tuition increases," said state Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp at a Wednesday meeting of the State Board of Public Works, where $281.5 million in midyear cuts to higher education and other agencies were approved.
O'Malley, a Democrat who sits on the spending panel, told her that many agree. The freeze - a campaign pledge that O'Malley has honored since his election in 2006 - was "not meant to last forever," he said.
Comptroller Peter Franchot, the third member of the board, later quipped that it was the most he'd seen O'Malley "thaw" on one of his signature accomplishments.

FACT CHECK: Obama's Health Care Principles Somewhat At Odds With The Details In Front Of Him
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's assertion Wednesday that government will stay out of health care decisions in an overhauled system is hard to square with the proposals coming out of Congress and with his own rhetoric.
Even now, nearly half the costs of health care in the U.S. are paid for by government at all levels. Federal authority would only grow under any proposal in play.
A look at some of Obama's claims in his prime-time news conference:
OBAMA: "We already have rough agreement" on some aspects of what a health care overhaul should involve, and one is: "It will keep government out of health care decisions, giving you the option to keep your insurance if you're happy with it."
THE FACTS: In House legislation, a commission appointed by the government would determine what is and isn't covered by insurance plans offered in a new purchasing pool, including a plan sponsored by the government. The bill also holds out the possibility that, over time, those standards could be imposed on all private insurance plans, not just the ones in the pool.
Indeed, Obama went on to lay out other principles of reform that plainly show the government making key decisions in health care. He said insurance companies would be barred from dropping coverage when someone gets too sick, limits would be set on out-of-pocket expenses, and preventive care such as checkups and mammograms would be covered.
It's true that people would not be forced to give up a private plan and go with a public one. The question is whether all of those private plans would still be in place if the government entered the marketplace in a bigger way.

Experts Dispute Some Points In Health Talk
WASHINGTON — President Obama showed great fluency in the intricate details of health policy at his news conference on Wednesday night, but experts said some of his points were debatable.
Mr. Obama said doctors, nurses, hospitals, drug companies and AARP had supported efforts to overhaul health care.
While it is true the American Medical Association has endorsed a bill drafted by House Democratic leaders, a half-dozen state medical societies have sharply criticized provisions that would establish a new government-run health insurance plan.
Likewise, Mr. Obama said Medicare could save large amounts of money by creating “an independent group of doctors and medical experts who are empowered to eliminate waste and inefficiency” and hold down the annual increases in payments to health care providers.
Far from supporting this proposal, the American Hospital Association is urging hospital executives to lobby against it.

Obama Madness
Great News! More than 625,000 Americans have signed the petition, voicing their support for affordable, accessible, high-quality health care. Many of you have asked, Can you sign twice? The answer is no, and in fact you will get a message that you have already signed. However, we need your help to forward this important information to all your lists, networks, friends and family members.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell recently summarized the dangers of a government-run health care system as being a "system in which care is denied, delayed, and rationed." He's exactly right! To fund a nationalized health care system, Congress will have to deny, delay, and ration care for the sick and elderly.
If health care is rationed, how would that work? White House health advisor Zeke Emanuel (who is also the brother of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel) wrote an entire article on this subject in the Lancet on January 31, 2009. In the article, Emanuel advocated giving young adults priority over senior citizens. Suppose a 25-year-old and a 65-year-old each has a life-threatening disease. Since the 25-year-old has many more potential years of life ahead of him, he should receive preferential treatment, according to Emanuel. He justifies denying care to elderly patients in the following way:
Unlike allocation by sex or race, allocation by age is not invidious discrimination; every person lives through different life stages rather than being a single age. Even if 25-year-olds receive priority over 65-year-olds, everyone who is 65 years now was previously 25 years.
There is more! In another article written in 1996 for the Hastings Center Report , Emanuel said health services should not be guaranteed to "individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens." He continues, "An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia."
Ultimately, such a health care plan would ignore the end-of-life needs of many Americans!
