Lawyer Says Palin Takes Fox News Commentator Job
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Sarah Palin is taking her conservative message to Fox News. An attorney for the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate says Palin will provide some type of commentary for the cable network.
Attorney Thomas Van Flein declined to elaborate on the deal.
Palin is hugely popular with conservatives and has more than 1 million Facebook followers.
She stepped down as Alaska governor in July, 17 months before the end of her first term in office. Her resignation came less than a year after she vaulted to overnight fame as John McCain's running mate.

Confusing Legislation From Wicomico County Council On New Animal Laws
"Weather Conditions – Animals cannot be kept outside if the temperature is below freezing or above 100 degrees and they are not a type of breed acclimated to such severe temperature extremes."
NOW, after seeing such information, one would think that this is enough to actually pull an animal from a property and bring it back to the Humane Society. However, that's NOT the case.
This is only a definition, not a law. That being said, let's just say someone calls the Humane Society or Animal Control and demands the animal be taken in. Neither party by law is allowed to do so. This is what they call "Part A." Part "B" & "C" are what tells both parties what they can do.
Here's another example of just how messed up the new laws are. Let's say you have a dog at your neighbors home that barks all day and all night. The Humane Society does have the right to go and get that dog. However, they did not state in the law that the dog can ultimately be euthanized. What's the Humane Society supposed to do with the dog, keep it forever? There's no "B" & "C" to the legislation.
While I agree that good dog owners would not allow their pets to be outside in such weather, animal lovers need to once again confront the County Council and make this into law, not definition. Then they need to provide both "B" & "C" to that law instructing both parties what can and will be done about it.
The County Council went into a closed session when these laws were finalized, leaving the Humane Society and Animal Control OUTSIDE the closed doors. Their final legislation, (in some cases) is ridiculous. Mind you, I think we all knew more work needed to be done and much would be faced head on in a one on one case basis.
Go to work Folks. Right now there is language on the books for such a problem. However, there's no law stating what both parties can do with the animal. Common sense would show they had their hearts in the right place, they just never closed the legislation to fully protect the animal.
O'Malley Pays Close Attention To Sarah Foxwell Case
FALSE Amber Alert
I know it's sick for someone to send those things out but I can assure you, it's been going around for three days now and IF there was any truth to it we would have been contacted by the State Police.
STOP sending it to others as well. Again, it's now three days old. We'll publish ALL alerts when they are confirmed but this one is a hoax.
Health Care Overhaul Bill Is 'Hanging by a Thread': Dodd
Health care reform is "hanging on by a thread," and one or two votes could determine the outcome of the heavily-debated bill, Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd told CNBC today.
"Everyone feels, I guess, to some degree who have been for this, that they would have liked something different, and that's not uncommon when you're considering an issue of this magnitude," Dodd said.
Some progressives, for example, are disappointed that the Senate bill, unlike the House version, does not include a public option, he said. Senators Joe Lieberman of Connecticut and Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas are two people who voted for the bill in its original form and are now carefully watching what changes are being made.
President Obama's administration has come under fire lately for putting too much emphasis on health care reform, causing many to question whether Democrats will retain their majority control come November. But Dodd, who is retiring this year, said it's an issue that needed to be dealt with — otherwise it would "strangle our economy," he said.
"If this is all about surviving politically, then we're missing the whole purpose of what we're supposed to be doing," he said.
Last week, Dodd, 65, announced that he would not run for reelection in November. His announcement was seen by many as a concession that he and the Democratic party are facing an uphill battle. But Republicans have said that as a result of his retirement, Democrats have a much better chance of holding onto his seat.
As chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Dodd said he is also moving forward with the financial reform bill, and that the committee is closer to answering fundamental questions, such as too big to fail.
He hopes the legislation will more strictly regulate derivatives and consolidate the number of financial regulators, and he hopes to mark the bill up in the committee by the end of the month.
He said the committee is in agreement that there should be an independent agency to protect consumers, but there is still debate over which form it will take.
Dodd also said he thinks it would be a "travesty" not to confirm Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's nomination, and that in the absence of taxpayer money, the government should have no say in banks' compensation practices.

The Salvation Army Breaks Last Years Record Numbers Thanks To YOU
Salisbury, MD…… The Salisbury Corps of The Salvation Army has released preliminary results of its annual Red Kettle Campaign and the numbers show that the Lower Shore community continues to reach out and help friends and neighbors in record numbers. The Red Kettle Campaign is one of three components of the Corps annual Christmas appeal which also includes a direct mail campaign and in-kind donations. Final results from the entire Christmas appeal will not be available until the first week of February.
“We cannot thank the community enough for their compassion, generosity and tenacity in the face of difficult economic times, brutal weather and other challenges,” said Captain Cameron Henderson, Salisbury Corps Officer. Kettle donations increased by more than 10% over last year’s record, equaling more than $182,000.00 to date. “God has sent so many angels to bless us!”
In anticipation of a tough fundraising season due to the economy, the Salisbury Corps added “revenue enhancers” to support the traditional red kettles that were placed outside 30 key locations in Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. The campaign began fueled by donors to the newly formed “Red Kettle Club”, who gave a minimum of $1,000.00 to support the effort. During the actual bell ringing time period, the Campaign benefited from special event kettles at The Magi Fund concerts; Salisbury University’s Holiday Band Concert; Southern Boys Restaurants - Sobo’s, Boonies and Specific Gravity; Christmas tree lightings in Salisbury and Fruitland; and Parker Place Christmas Lights in Pittsville.
Coin canister collections were held by Cato Gas & Oil, Bank of Delmarva, First Shore Federal Savings and Loan, Princess Anne Elementary and Asbury Child Development Center. Red Kettle paper cut-outs were sold at branches of Hebron Savings Bank, Bank of Delmarva and Bank of Ocean City.
St. Francis de Sales School, Salisbury Christian School and Wicomico County elementary and intermediate schools participated in old-fashioned, fill the milk cartons drives that generated almost $12,000.00 to help children in need.
“The outpouring of support from so many different segments of the community – especially the children – is so heartwarming”, said Henderson. “The bell ringers who braved some of the worst weather we’ve seen in years; the new partnerships that were formed - it is all very humbling and very much in keeping with the true meaning of Christmas”.
“If we had not had such severe weather the last weekend before Christmas, particularly on “Super Saturday” as well as several days of heavy rain, we believe we could have met our aggressive goal of $200,000.00” added Henderson.
The mail campaign, another large component of the Christmas appeal, continues until the end of January and Captain Henderson urges the community to continue to send in donations. “Christmas is just one time of need. We are already experiencing an exceptionally cold winter, with what are usually the coldest months still ahead. The need doesn’t not stop for food, warm clothing and warm shelter just because the holiday has passed”, said Henderson.
In-kind donations have also been exceptionally generous for this year’s Christmas appeal and especially to the Red Kettle Campaign. Sperry Van Ness/Miller Property Management donated office space that was used as Campaign Headquarters, Alarm Engineering donated a state-of-the-art security system for the space and Pittsville Ford, a member of the Preston Automotive Group, donated the use of a Ford Transit during the weeks of bell ringing that was used to deliver and pick up kettles throughout Wicomico County.
“Once again, the members of the community have shown their true spirit and risen to the challenge of helping those most in need, and once again, God has blessed our efforts. We believe He has a lot for us to do in His Name,” said Henderson. “May God Bless all who gave, all who served, all who benefited and those still in need”.
Contributions are gratefully accepted at any time throughout the year to the Salisbury Corps of The Salvation Army, 407 Oak Street, Salisbury, Maryland 21804.
The Salvation Army Had Their Turn, Now Its Mine...
While there are so many people out there to thank, most of them know who they are and would actually be upset with me if I mentioned them by name. You see, this is what being unconditional is all about.
Think about this for a minute Folks. Most locations started 5 days later than they were allowed last year. A huge loss came when they were snowed out on the biggest shopping day of the year. Then, no thanks to Jonathan Taylor and his crew, the Salvation Army was completely removed the last week at Gander Mountain and they caused thousands of dollars worth of damage when I personally could no longer ring the bell at Sam's Club and Wal-Mart.
Oh yeah, they were laughing and enjoying their victory at the time but we moved on and filled in those gaps anyway. Billy Burke from Pocomoke joined Mr. Taylor in their quest to have me removed from Sam's Club and Wal-Mart stating that an interracial couple walked out the door and stated I called them a (N-Word) loving whore. That's right Folks, that is exactly what they posted and claimed.
Mind you, ANY man would have had their butt kicked right then and there but as ALL of you know me, I'd NEVER use that kind of language or make any such mentioned statement. In fact, my own Brother is married to an interracial woman to whom I absolutely love and adore. That didn't stop Wal-Mart and Sam's Club from having to make an instant corporate decision after receiving numerous phone calls with such a lie.
I wasn't going to say anything during the bell ringing season but now it's out there for you to see. Mr. John Robinson continued to go to the Salvation Army through phone calls and personal visits demanding they stop associating with me, even AFTER a Judge told him just days before that I could easily sue him for interfering like that. Funny thing is, Robinson didn't fill in ANY of the open slots I would have filled.
That being said, YOU made this happen. Granted, being a bell ringer deserves a TON of credit. However, without YOUR donations, especially in the toughest economy this Country has ever experienced, the Salvation Army came out way ahead of last year and once again, they did NOT have to pay a single person to ring the bell, as they had done for so many years in the past.
So from me to ALL of YOU, God Bless You and Thank You so very much. The challenges this year were against the Salvation Army but because everyone pulled together it was indeed a great success.
To Jonathan Taylor, John Robinson & Billy Burke, try spending your time doing some good for the community instead of posting lies and obsessing over one person. In fact, try volunteering some of your own time and helping your own community. Trust me, (this post proves it) it really feels good.
It Must Have Been A Rough Weekend
I got a call from someone who is on the NC/SC Line and they told me it's 30 degrees there right now. I know we spent most of our weekend indoors but enjoyed the 80 degree temperatures with our pellet stove.
I received some comments through e-mail this weekend where some people were concerned about dogs being left outside the cold. One of them stated it's against the County Laws to leave an animal outside when it drops below freezing. This is not true. As long as they have shelter, food and water, (I hate to say it) they can be left outdoors.
To me it's a shame that those people who claim to love animals would leave them outside in the temperatures that we've experienced this past week. I can tell you, my labs have been inside and will remain inside until it warms up enough.
The only comfort I can give you is, know your neighbors. If they leave their animal or animals outside when its this cold, well, need I say more? In the mean time, know that if you call Animal Services or the Humane Society and tell them they have to come out and see it for themselves, NOTHING will be done and you've wasted a resource. Wicomico County is down to only ONE Officer. There are important calls this Officer needs to respond to so please know there's nothing they can do for those animals left outside in the cold. It sucks, I know.
They can only do what the law tells them. Trust me, they don't like it either.
Stimulus For Roads No Path To Help Joblessness
Analysis comes as Obama urges another bill funding more transit projects
WASHINGTON - Ten months into President Barack Obama's first economic stimulus plan, a surge in spending on roads and bridges has had no effect on local unemployment and only barely helped the beleaguered construction industry, an AP analysis has found.
Spend a lot or spend nothing at all, it didn't matter, the AP analysis showed: Local unemployment rates rose and fell regardless of how much stimulus money Washington poured out for transportation, raising questions about Obama's argument that more road money would address an "urgent need to accelerate job growth."
Obama wants a second stimulus bill from Congress that relies in part on more road and bridge spending, projects the president said are "at the heart of our effort to accelerate job growth."

Activists Go Undercover To Thwart Puppy Mills
RONKS, Pa. - Megan Anderson's nerves are shot. But she presses ahead — the dogs need her.
She pulls into the driveway of Scarlet-Maple Farm Kennel. She tells the adolescent boy who greets her that she's looking for puppies to give to her nephews for Christmas.
It's a lie. A necessary one, Anderson thinks, but a lie nonetheless. That's why she's jittery. Will the boy swallow her story? How about the Amish man with the long gray beard, straw hat and plain dress — the kennel's owner? Will he discover her ruse and chase her away?

Happy Birthday Mom
Sen. Harry Reid And The 'Double Standard'
GOP Chairman Michael Steele and other Republicans on Sunday accused Democrats of a double standard, saying they accepted Sen. Harry Reid’s apology for racial comments about President Obama, but they sould have demanded that the Nevada Senator step down.
The hubbub stems from the book, "Game Change," in which Time Magazine's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann write that Reid “believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama - a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,' as he later put it privately."
Speaking on two talk shows, Steele compared Reid's comment to the controversy that led Senate Republican leader Trent Lott to step down from that post in 2002. At a 100th birthday celebration for Strom Thurmond, Lott lauded Thurmond’s 1948 segregationist presidential campaign. Lott apologized but still was forced out as leader.
"There is this standard where the Democrats feel that they can say these things and they can apologize when it comes from the mouths of their own. But if it comes from anyone else, it's racism," said Steele, who is black. "It's either racist or it's not. And it's inappropriate, absolutely."
So, is there a double standard? Yes, there is a double standard. But this isn’t an issue that’s as black and white as “it’s either racist or it’s not.”

Who's At Fault
545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code. Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy. Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy. The Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board, because that problem was created by Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated is responsibility to a privately held bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Army & Marines are in Iraq , it's because they want them in Iraq .
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses, provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.
We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Jail Cell Looms For ‘Balloon Boy’ Dad
Prosecutors: Heenes also owe up to $48,000 in restitution over hoax
FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The father who pleaded guilty to orchestrating the balloon boy hoax is to turn himself in to begin serving a 90-day jail sentence Monday following a media blitz in which he said he was innocent.
Richard Heene told The Associated Press that his Japanese wife misunderstood the meaning of the word "hoax" when she purportedly confessed to authorities.
"She cries, now and then, stating that I'm going to jail for 90 days because of what she said," Heene said in an interview Friday, about Mayumi Heene's statements to police.

WCDC Refuses To Take In Prisoner
Once they processed him and brought him to the WCDC, the Detention Center refused to accept the prisoner and told the SPD they had to take him back until he was sober.
It must be nice for the WCDC to pick and choose who they will or won't accept. I wonder if Filet Mignon is now on their dinner menu as well?
Democrats Plan To Manipulate Elections With Universal Registration
Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, and Rep. Barney Frank, Massachusetts Democrat, have plans to ram through legislation that will produce universal voter registration.
No matter what they claim, the rule changes will make it possible for illegal aliens to register to vote and for others to register multiple times.
The proposal is to register everyone on every welfare list, everyone getting unemployment insurance, everyone with a driver's license, everyone who has had run-ins with the legal system, everyone owning any property - basically everyone on every list the government keeps. People will be registered to vote whether or not they want to be registered. If individuals are on any public record, they will be automatically registered.

Baby Boomers Still Doing Drugs As Seniors
Almost 5 percent of aging Baby Boomers in the United States are abusing drugs, a new government report shows.
That's about 4.3 million adults over the age of 50 who are smoking marijuana, abusing prescription medication and engaging in other illicit drug activity -- a number that far exceeds that of their parents' generation.
The driving force behind the trend, said Peter Delany, director of the Office of Applied Studies at the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), is people who used drugs when they were younger and never really stopped.
This is, after all, the era of the Rolling Stones as senior citizens.
One might wonder about their political persuasion-- drugs might help to explain what's happening to our country.
Wow! Republican Leads In Massachusetts!
It looks like Brown could actually win the January 19 special election and provide, as he has promised to do, the 41st and decisive vote against the Democrats’ health care bill.
Only last week pollster Scott Rasmussen, accused by liberal bloggers of giving Republican-leaning results, showed Coakley leading 50%-41% among likely voters. PPP confirms Rasmussen’s finding that Republicans are much more interested and motivated to vote than Democrats, as was the case in the November 2009 New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races. In addition, likely voters oppose the Obama health care plan by a 47%-41% margin and give Obama a tepid 44%-43% job approval. In a state (technically, a commonwealth) which Obama carried 62%-36% in November 2008.
PPP shows Brown with very high favorables (57%-25%), while Coakley has only lukewarm favorable (50%-42%). I’m not surprised. Brown in his ads and media appearances comes across as likeable, independent and knowledgeable and as a person of convictions. Coakley has been avoiding the campaign trail and two-candidate debates (she insists on a libertarian splinter candidate participating), and she tends to avoid giving firm answers on anything. She’s scheduled to come down to Washington next week for a lobbyist-infested fundraiser—not a good move given the anti-lobbyist feeling that’s so evident this year (and which Obama played on during the 2008 campaign).
But Democrats have another trick up their sleeve. The Boston Herald reports that if Brown wins Democratic Secretary of State William Galvin will delay certifying the race for 10 days or until February 20. That would let appointed Democratic Senator Paul Kirk cast a 60th vote for the Democrats’ health care bill. Galvin’s excuse seems to be that it would take time to count absentee and military ballots. But that didn’t stop him from certifying the special election victory in 2007 of Democratic Congresswoman Nikki Tsongas within two days, in time for her to cast a vote to override George W. Bush’s veto of a Democratic children’s health care bill...
Reporters should ask Galvin why it was possible to certify a Democratic winner in two days but it will take 10 days to 32 days to certify a Republican winner. What will happen if Democrats pass their health care bill by denying to seat a duly elected Republican?
My prediction: Firestorm. National firestorm.

Nominee No. 7: (Reuters, Mississauga , Ontario ): A man cleaning a bird feeder on the balcony of his condominium apartment in this Toronto suburb slipped and fell 23 stories to his death. Stefan Macko, 55, was standing on a wheelchair when the accident occurred, said Inspector Darcy Honer of the Peel Regional Police.
"It appears that the chair moved, and he went over the balcony," Honer said.
Finally, THE WINNER!!!: ( Arkansas Democrat Gazette):
Two local men were injured when their pickup truck left the road and struck a tree near Cotton Patch on State Highway 38 early Monday. Woodruff County deputy Dovey Snyder reported the accident shortly after midnight Monday. Thurston Poole, 33, of Des Arc, and Billy Ray Wallis, 38, of Little Rock , were returning to Des Arc after a frog catching trip. On an overcast Sunday night, Pooles pickup truck headlights malfunctioned. The two men concluded that the headlight fuse on the older-model truck had burned out. As a replacement fuse was not available, Wallis noticed that the 22 caliber bullets from his pistol fit perfectly into the fuse box next to the steering- wheel column. Upon inserting the bullet the headlights again began to operate properly, and the two men proceeded on eastbound toward the White River Bridge.
After traveling approximately 20 miles, and just before crossing the river, the bullet apparently overheated, discharged, and struck Poole in the testicles. The vehicle swerved sharply right, exiting the pavement, and striking a tree. Poole suffered only minor cuts and abrasions from the accident but will require extensive surgery to repair the damage to his testicles, which will never operate as intended. Wallis sustained a broken clavicle and was treated and released. "Thank God we weren't on that bridge when Thurston shot his n**s off, or we might both be dead," stated Wallis.
"I've been a trooper for 10 years in this part of the world, but this is a first for me. I can't believe that those two would admit how this accident happened," said Snyder. Upon being notified of the wreck, Lavinia ( Poole 's wife), asked how many frogs the boys had caught and did anyone get them from the truck. Priorities, after all!!
Though Poole and Wallis did not die as a result of their misadventure as normally required by Darwin Award Official Rules, it can be argued that Poole did, in fact, effectively remove himself from the gene pool.

Keeper
Their marriage was good, their dreams focused. Their best friends lived barely a wave away I can see them now, Dad in trousers, tee shirt and a hat and Mom in a house dress, lawn mower in one hand, and dish-towel in the other. It was the time for fixing things; a curtain rod, the kitchen radio, screen door, the oven door, the hem in a dress. Things we keep.
It was a way of life, and sometimes it made me crazy. All that repairing, eating, reusing, I wanted just once to be wasteful. Waste meant affluence. Throwing things away meant you knew there'd always be more.
But then my mother died, and on that clear summer's night, in the warmth of the hospital room, I was struck with the pain of learning that sometimes there isn't any more.
Sometimes, what we care about most gets all used up and goes away...never to return. So... While we have it... it's best we love it... And care for it.... And fix it when it's broken..... And heal it when it's sick..
This is true... For marriage.... And old cars... And children with bad report cards..... And dogs and cats with bad hips.... And aging parents..... And grandparents. We keep them because they are worth it, because we are worth it. Some things we keep. Like a best friend that moved away or a classmate we grew up with.
There are just some things that make life important, like people we know who are special.... And so, we keep them close!

Nope, I really don't see a pattern here to justify profiling, do you?
So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone, particularly fanatic’s intent on killing us, airport security screeners are not allowed to profile certain people. They must conduct random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, secret agents who are members of the President's security detail, and Medal of Honor winning and former Governor Joe Foss, but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 and 40 alone lest they be guilty of profiling.
Come on people wake up!!! Keep this going. Pass it on to everyone in your
address book. Our Country and our troops need our support.
