WCSO Participates In The 8th Annual MLK Classic

WCSO Participates in the 8th Annual MLK Classic; Building a bridge between Law Enforcement and the Communities they serve

On Monday, January 20, 2014 DFC Jennifer Hall and DFC Glen Hilliard attended the 8th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Classics hosted in Easton, Talbot County, Maryland. DFC Hall has represented the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office at the event for the past four years. DFC Hilliard helped coach several teams for his first year attending.

The MLK Classics was established to build a bridge between law Enforcement Agencies on the Eastern Shore and the communities they serve. Children from all ages, races, and backgrounds come together to play ball. Martin Luther Kings dream of unity among men and the game of basketball combine to straighten our youth in a positive manner. This year the MLK Classic hosted more than 100 students from surrounding county schools.

This event is non-profit and would not be possible if not for the kind donations and many volunteers who keep the event running. Coaches and helpers volunteer from the following police departments in the area: Easton, Denton, Cambridge, and Wicomico County.

Backdoor Gun Control: Ammunition Background Checks And Permits Being Pushed By Lawmakers

If the California state legislature have its way, responsible gun owners will have to have a background check and permit to buy ammunition in the state.

“Anyone can walk into any gun store, a bait and tackle store, and purchase all the ammunition they want to, no questions asked,” Sen. Kevin de Leon (D), the bill’s lead sponsor, said in an interview with the Washington Post. “The ammunition is the fuel that feeds the violence. The gun itself, the handgun or the long gun or the high-powered weapon is the delivery device. The gas, the fuel, is the ammunition, and no one knows who buys it.”

TEXAS COP HAD NO IDEA HIS ACT OF KINDNESS FOR A HOMELESS MAN WAS BEING PHOTOGRAPHED — NOW IT’S AN INTERNET HIT AND INSPIRING OTHERS

“It seemed like the right thing to do,” Cpl. Jeremy Walsh said. “I had something that somebody else needed that I didn’t need.”

That aptly sums up the intentions of the Odessa, Texas police officer and Army vet whose simple act of kindness was captured in a photo unbeknownst to him…and is now going viral.

Walsh approached a homeless man in town with whom he’s built a rapport, noted KEWS-TV in Midland, Texas. Walsh knew that the man, who goes by A.J., had been on the street for some time without footwear.

EPA Decree Shrinks Size Of Wyoming By A Million Acres

Why is the EPA altering state boundaries in Wyoming - and reversing over 100 years of established law? Well, apparently the city of Riverton now falls under the jurisdiction of the Wind River Indian Reservation. This, obviously, isn't sitting well with the governor's office - which is urging the EPA to reconsider its ruling and respect the rule of law.

Reacting to the decision to reduce the size of Wyoming by about a million acres, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead warned of the dangers to all Americans of this type of unilateral land redistribution by the EPA:

"I understand that the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone Tribes have a different opinion about the Wind River Reservation Boundary. My deep concern is about an administrative agency of the federal government altering a state's boundary and going against over 100 years of history and law.

"This should be a concern to all citizens because, if the EPA can unilaterally take land away from a state, where will it stop?" Governor Matt Mead said in a press release on January 6.

Obamacare At ‘Significant’ Risk Of ‘Death Spiral,’ Economist Warns

(CNSNews.com) – Economist John Goodman, who warned last October that Obamacare could plunge into a “death spiral” if not enough young, healthy people signed up for coverage, says that danger is now “significant” following news that the Obama administration failed to hit its young adult enrollment target.

“I think there is a significant problem here,” Goodman, president and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), told CNSNews.com. “I think the insurers are worried. I think the administration is worried.

“Remember, everybody is facing the wrong price. And sick people are facing a price that’s well below the cost of their care. Young healthy people are being overcharged. And so they need lots of young healthy people to join so they can get the money to pay the bills for the sick people. And the younger people just aren’t buying it.

“Part of the problem, I think, is that it’s been so difficult for people to sign up, and so the only ones who’ve persevered – sometimes trying a hundred times – are people who really have serious health problems.”

ObamaCare’s Attack On The Elderly

In October of 2012, the Daily Mail exposed the highly disturbing realities of the Liverpool Pathway (LCP), the series of guidelines for treating terminally ill patients developed for Britain’s National Health Service (NHS). The most egregious of those realities concerned cash incentives paid to hospitals to ensure a certain percentage of hospital patients would be put on the regime. As healthcare expert Besty McCaughey reveals, a similar horror show is occurring on this side of the Atlantic, courtesy of ObamaCare. Beginning the the same time the LCP scandal was being exposed, the Obama administration began awarding hospitals bonus points for spending the least amount of money on elderly patients. Even worse, the idea was sold to the elderly as a good thing during the 2012 presidential election campaign.

Verizon Preps For Mobile TV

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Someday, the full lineup of channels from Verizon’s FiOS TV service may be available on your phone.

That’s the vision outlined Tuesday after telecommunications giant Verizon Communications Inc. announced that it’s buying Intel Media, a division of Intel Corp. that’s been preparing to launch a service that streams TV channels over the Internet.

Verizon said the acquisition will help it accelerate the development of next-generation video services based on Internet protocols and reduce the cost of building its own. Currently, Verizon FiOS video subscribers can stream some live channels over mobile devices, but the selection is limited and most channels can’t be viewed outside the home.

Obama Is Naive About Income Inequality

Inequality is President Obama's highest priority, but his solutions are wholly naive.

Disparities between rich and poor are as ancient as civilization, but in modern democracies, this condition is exacerbated by globalization and technologies that drive it.

Successive advances in communication and transportation, for example, permit top opera singers, athletes and other professionals to reach wider audiences and earn incomes many times greater than their peers do.

Before the radio, phonograph and moving pictures, virtually every city, small and large, had an opera house or music hall that offered live entertainment. The top stars sang in New York, London and Milan and earned considerable wealth, but many local performers and traveling journeymen could earn a decent living too.

THE THREATENING NOTE A WOMAN RECEIVED AFTER CRITIQUING CITY POLITICS LOOKS AS IF IT’S STRAIGHT OUT OF A HORROR FILM

A woman critical of politics in a small Missouri town says she received intimidating notes last week threatening to reveal supposed “sexually explicit” emails involving her unless she “back[s] away” from the city now.

The note, with the words spelled out from what appears to be magazine clippings, suggests that unless Erin Kasten, 39, of Pevely halts her criticism of city politics, embarrassing emails will be leaked to her friends, family and even the public. The 39-year-old says she received the note at work on Friday.

“We have copies of sexually explicit emails that we don’t think you would like to be exposed to your family or friends or the public,” the note, being investigated by authorities and published by the Leader, says. “Back away from Pevely now!”

Record 20% of Households on Food Stamps in 2013

A record 20% of American households, one in five, were on food stamps in 2013, according to data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The numbers also show there was a record number of individuals on food stamps in 2013 and that the cost of the program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), was at an all-time high.

Estate Tax Relief Bills Gain Momentum

ANNAPOLIS — Maryland lawmakers are thinking of easing estate taxes this legislative session, a change proponents say would prevent many retirees from decamping to warmer, and less taxed, parts of the country.

While the federal government begins taxing estates after the first $5.25 million, Maryland spares only the first $1 million from its tax, which ranges between 8 and 16 percent. Some lawmakers are concerned this disparity prompts people to leave Maryland when they near retirement age and settle in states like Florida, which does not assess an estate tax. This session of the Maryland General Assembly, several legislators have proffered proposals for making Maryland look more attractive to retirees.

One proposal from Sen. David Brinkley and Delegate Kelly Schulz would gradually raise the state exemption to line up with the federal threshold. The estate of anyone dying after Jan. 1, 2017, would benefit from the full phase-in, according to the bill.

What Did Our Wars Win?

"He ended one war and kept us out of any other," is the tribute paid President Eisenhower.

Ike ended the Korean conflict in 1953, refused to intervene to save the French at Dien Bien Phu in 1954, and, rather than back the British-French-Israeli invasion, ordered them all out of Egypt in 1956.

Ending America's longest wars may prove to be Barack Obama's legacy.

For, while ending wars without victory may not garner from the historians' the accolade of "great" or "near great," it is sometimes the duty of a president who has inherited a war the nation no longer wishes to fight.

That was Nixon's fate, as well as Ike's, and Obama's.

And as we look back at our interventions in the 21st century, where are the gains of all our fighting, bleeding and dying?

We know the costs — 8,000 dead, 40,000 wounded, $2 trillion in wealth sunk. But where are the benefits?

McDonnell, Wife Indicted On Federal Corruption Charges

Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, were indicted Tuesday on federal corruption charges stemming from their relationship with a wealthy businessman in a case sure to test the ethical boundaries between friendship and political influence.

Former health supplement company executive Jonnie R. Williams Sr. plied the McDonnells with gifts and loans and, in return, received access in order to peddle his products, charging documents filed Tuesday claim.

Mr. McDonnell on Tuesday night reiterated that he did nothing wrong —Virginia law does not require the disclosure of gifts to family members — and insisted that the gifts were motivated by nothing more than friendship.

Freedom Or Slavery

President Obama has managed, with singular assistance from Congress and the courts, to mangle the Constitution through repeated abuses, attacks and evasions.

This is nothing new, as I’ve documented in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State. However, with his recent speech on the National Security Agency—a heady cocktail of lies, obfuscations, contradictions and Orwellian doublespeak—Obama has also managed to pervert and propagandize our nation’s history, starting with Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty, likening their efforts to secure our freedoms to NSA phone surveillance. Frankly, George Orwell’s Winston Smith, rewriting news stories for Big Brother and the Ministry of Truth, couldn’t have done a better job of revising history to suit the party line.

While it didn’t bode well for what was to follow, here’s how Obama opened his speech:

“At the dawn of our Republic, a small, secret surveillance committee borne out of the ‘The Sons of Liberty’ was established in Boston. And the group’s members included Paul Revere. At night, they would patrol the streets, reporting back any signs that the British were preparing raids against America’s early Patriots. Throughout American history, intelligence has helped secure our country and our freedoms.”

Brit Hume: Sometimes It Seems Like Dems Would Rather Have Everyone Equally Poor Than Unequally Rich

Brit Hume offered some commentary last night on Special Reportregarding the income inequality issue that President Obama has brought to the nation’s attention as part of his effort to regain favor with the American people.

“It is hard not to marvel at the audacity of a man who, after five years in office, identifies as ‘the defining challenge of our time’ an income gap that, as you’ve heard, has steadily widened since he’s been in office,” Hume said.

“But income inequality has long been a preoccupation with Democrats,” he continued, “to the point that it sometimes seems they’d prefer everyone be equally poor than unequally rich. That’s an exaggeration, of course, but it points to a key difference in the way the left and right view the economy.”

If He Was Around Today, Thomas Jefferson Would Be Considered A Tea Party Extremist

Thomas Jefferson was radically anti-tax, pro-gun and anti-central bank. He loved precious metals, he openly acknowledged a “Creator” and he wanted to add an amendment to the Constitution which would ban the federal government from going into debt.

If he was around today, he would be considered a “nutjob”, an “extremist”, a “fascist” and even a “potential terrorist“. But of course Jefferson was none of those things. Rather, Jefferson was a great thinker, the primary author of the Declaration of Independence and our third President. Below, I have shared a list of 13 famous Jefferson quotes (13 for the 13 colonies that originally founded America) that show just how far America has fallen away from our founding principles. I think that most of you will be very shocked when you read this list…

#1 “It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world.”

NSA Propaganda Backfires … Public Trusts Government Less Than Ever

Americans have doubted the NSA – and Obama’s intention to rein in its spying – ever since the Snowden leaks started.

People didn’t buy Obama’s “big speech”. And see this.

Polls show that – even after the speech – Americans ain’t buying NSA’s claims.

Indeed, the only effect of the NSA and White House’s massive propaganda campaign is to destroy what little remaining trust the American people still had in their government.

Indeed, government representatives have been caught lying so often – and have so blatantly disregarded what people want to help out the fatcats – that very few people like their politicians, and people are more afraid of the government than of terrorists.

GOVERNOR O'MALLEY ANNOUNCES MARYLAND VENTURE FUND INVESTMENT

ANNAPOLIS, MD Governor Martin O’Malley announced that Tales2Go, a leading provider of streaming audiobooks, has moved to Maryland from Washington D.C. and received a $150,000 investment from the Maryland Venture Fund (“MVF”), through its InvestMaryland program. The company, now located in Bethesda, is a Netflix-like subscription service that streams thousands of titles from popular publishers to early childhood programs and primary schools. The MVF investment is part of a larger fundraising round co-led by NewSchools Venture Fund, a nonprofit venture philanthropy firm that supports entrepreneurs transforming K-12 public education and providing opportunities for underserved students.

“Tales2Go shares Maryland’s commitment to innovation, discovery and investment in education and I am proud to welcome this dynamic young company to our State,” Governor O’Malley said. “I am confident their industry-leading platform and our wealth of education resources, high-quality workforce and vibrant network of innovators and entrepreneurs will lead to continued growth and success for Tales2Go and for Maryland.”

“Funding from NewSchools and the State of Maryland is a game changer for our company. Beyond the obvious benefits of additional finances, NewSchools and the State of Maryland bring important credibility and support to our technology and purpose,” said William Weil, CEO and cofounder of Tales2Go. “Audio books are more than a nice library resource, or good for struggling readers. They are an important tool for reading achievement in the classroom and a desired supplement to parents at home.”

Tales2Go supports the development of literacy skills during the most critical early childhood and elementary years, when students acquire a foundation of vocabulary and fluency necessary for academic success. Listening skills are given special emphasis within the Common Core State Standards, as literacy experts have long understood that children need to be good listeners in order to become good readers. The Tales2Go service is used differently across ages and grade levels, ranging from individual to group use with or without physical books in hand. The company has seven employees and plans to double its staff by the end of 2015.

Created by Governor O’Malley and passed by the General Assembly in 2011, InvestMaryland is the largest venture capital investment initiative in Maryland’s history. The $84 million program is being administered through the Maryland Venture Fund, the venture arm of the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. In March 2012, the State raised $84 million for the program through an online auction of tax credits to Maryland insurance companies. Two-thirds of the funding – $56 million – is being managed by carefully screened private venture firms that will invest the funds and, if successful, return 100% of the principal and 80% of the profits to the State’s general fund. The remaining third of the InvestMaryland capital is largely allocated to direct investments by the state-run Maryland Venture Fund.

The Maryland Venture Fund (“MVF”) is a regionally recognized leader in seed and early-stage investing and a national model for state-supported investment programs. With nearly two decades of experience and numerous successful investments, MVF invests in highly innovative technology companies across the full range of industry sectors including software, communications, cybersecurity and life sciences companies in the areas of healthcare IT, medical devices and diagnostics.

After The Collapse: Six Likely Events That Will Follow An Economic Crash

It’s not too difficult to understand that we are well on our way to a paradigm shift in America; in fact we’re in the midst of it right now. The writing is on the wall and can no longer be ignored.

Right now, the dollar is only propped up by foreign demand.

The US government has run up trillions of dollars in debt, and given the recent debates over the country’s debt ceiling, we can rest assured that neither Congress or the President will act to curtail spending and balance the budget. We will continue adding trillions of dollars to the national debt clock until such time that our creditors no longer lend us money.

From the monetary side, the Federal Reserve’s response to this unprecedented crisis has been to simply “print” more money as is necessary. On top of the trillions in dollars already printed thus far, the Fed continues quantitative easing to the tune of about $80 billion per month. It’s the only arrow left in the Fed’s quiver, because failing to inject these billions into stock markets and banks will lead to an almost instant collapse of the U.S. financial system. Unfortunately, the current strategy is chock full of its own pitfalls, the least of which being the real possibility of a hyperinflationary environment developing over coming months and years.

On Main Street, average Americans have seen their wealth decimated. They’ve lost millions of jobs and homes over the course of the last five years. And if recent reports are any indication, the destruction of the middle class will continue unabated for years to come. The resulting effect is a vicious negative feedback loop that continues to build upon itself. Americans no longer have money (or credit) to spend to prop up the economy, thus more jobs will be lost, leading to more people requiring government assistance for everything from food to shelter.

We are, on every level, facing a collapse of unprecedented scale.

U.S. Army’s Elite Special Forces Train With Local Cops In A Secretive Joint Exercise

Unwarranted NSA surveillance, the passage of NDAA, stop and frisk programs, and the rise of warrior cops, have essentially turned America into a centralized police state.

Blurring the lines between the U.S. military and local sheriff departments sets a dangerous precedent that erodes freedom and civil liberties.

Those lines are being blurred right now in South Carolina.

According to The State, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department will participate in secretive joint exercise Monday and Tuesday with unnamed units from Ft. Bragg.

Obama Is Losing The Millennials

Young voters are unhappy with Obamacare, college costs, lack of jobs.

What do young Americans want? Something different from what they’ve been getting from the president they voted for by such large margins.

Evidence comes in from various polls. Voters under 30, the Millennial generation, produced numbers for Barack Obama 13 percentage points above the national average in 2008 and nine points above in 2012.

But in recent polls, Obama’s approval among those under 30 has been higher than the national average by only one percentage point (Quinnipiac), two points (ABC/Washington Post) and three points (YouGov/Economist).

Sussex Says Let State Handle Barking Dogs

It's 2 a.m. and the neighbor's dog won't stop barking. Who are you going to call? Sussex County Council says call Delaware State Police or Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control; it's their job to respond because the state has jurisdiction over noise complaints.

By a 3-2 vote at its Jan. 21 meeting, council defeated a proposal to provide regulations and enforcement to deal with nuisance barking dogs in unincorporated areas of the county. The vote ended months of debate over the issue.

Council President Mike Vincent, R-Seaford, said the ordinance was not necessary because state law already protects residents from noisy animals, including barking dogs. Under the Delaware Noise Control Act, law enforcement officers – including Delaware State Police – can issue citations to owners with dogs who bark constantly for 10 minutes or intermittently for a half hour. Animal noise is only one section of the law that covers how much noise can emanate from radios and TV sets to loading and construction to power tools, vehicles and motorcycles. DNREC is charged with administration of the law.

THE DOOR

Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?

Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.

Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next. Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale.

Thank goodness for studies like this. It's not our age, it's the damn door!

Not my fault.

Virginia Republicans Kill Terry McAuliffe's First Gun Control Effort

On January 16th, Republicans in the Virginia House Militia, Police and Public Safety subcommittee were able to stop new gun control measures proposed by Democrats after Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) was elected.

As Breitbart News reported on January 15th, these measures included an expansion of background checks and of mental health-related gun ownership bans. Richmond's Times-Dispatch reports that a requirement that would have shut down private gun sales at gun shows and a ban "on the sale and transfer of 'high capacity' magazines" were also defeated.

The ban on "high capacity" magazines was pushed by Delegate Alfonso H. Lopez (D-Arlington), who said no one needs "a hundred-round 'high capacity' magazine to kill a deer."

Wall Street Adviser: Actual Unemployment Is 37.2%, 'Misery Index' Worst In 40 Years

Don't believe the happy talk coming out of the White House, Federal Reserve and Treasury Department when it comes to the realunemployment rate and the true “Misery Index.” Because, according to an influential Wall Street advisor, the figures are a fraud.

In a memo to clients provided to Secrets, David John Marotta calculates the actual unemployment rate of those not working at a sky-high 37.2 percent, not the 6.7 percent advertised by the Fed, and the Misery Index at over 14, not the 8 claimed by the government.

Marotta, who recently advised those worried about an imploding economy to get a gun, said that the government isn't being honest in how it calculates those out of the workforce or inflation, the two numbers used to get the Misery Index figure.

How Obamacare Could Lead To Single Payer Sooner Than You Think

Obamacare At 'Significant' Risk of 'Death Spiral,' Economist Warns ... Economist John Goodman, who warned last October that Obamacare could plunge into a "death spiral" if not enough young, healthy people signed up for coverage, says that danger is now "significant" following news that the Obama administration failed to hit its young adult enrollment target. "I think there is a significant problem here," Goodman, president and CEO of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA), told CNSNews.com. – CNS News

Dominant Social Theme: We'll get it right. We just need to do some tinkering.

Free-Market Analysis: Reading this article, we realized how the ol' switcheroo could take place that would shove Obamacare into a kind of "single payer" mode. It's not so hard to project – and it could happen sooner than any of us think, apparently.

Of course, such analysis could be looked on as "paranoid" or conspiratorial, but we're well past labels when we look at what's going on in the West. Maximum complexity has been reached, in our view. And not just complexity, but deviousness, authoritarianism ... in fact, whatever negative characteristics you can attribute to Western institutions are either in play or feasible.

Welfare, Minimum Wages, And Unemployment

Of the various flavors of government interventionism in our lives, the minimum wage is perhaps the most welcomed. It appeals not only to our innate sense of “fairness” but also to our self-interest. Its allure may erroneously lead us to the conclusion that because “it is popular,” ergo “it is right.”

The more astute proponents of the minimum wage, however, immediately point to the obvious; namely, that an extreme minimum wage ($1,000 per hour) would be unequivocally detrimental. However, the proponents quickly turn to dismissing this fear by asserting that, empirically, no such job loss occurs when the minimum wage is slowly raised. This is akin to arguing that although fire can boil water, a small fire won’t heat it up. The support for this assertion is the oft-cited 1994 study by Card and Krueger showing a positive correlation between an increased minimum wage and employment in New Jersey. Many others have thoroughly debunked this study and it is significant that the original authors eventually retracted their claims.
