NEW YORK - Ed Reimers, the actor who told television viewers "you're in good hands with Allstate" for decades, died Sunday in upstate New York, a relative said. He was 96.

Reimers, who also served as an announcer for several TV shows in the 1950s and '60s, died at his daughter's home in Saratoga Springs, said Dean Lindoerfer, his nephew by marriage. The cause of Reimers' death wasn't immediately clear.

Johnson's Feed & Seed Delivers - AGAIN

Previously I sent an email touting the high level of customer service at Johnson's Feed & Seed. I also mentioned they promised to call me when their Fall vegetable plants arrived. True to their word, Ann called me this past Friday afternoon letting me know the plants had just arrived. I went over today (Sunday) and picked up broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage plants. They also had red kale, collards and head lettuce plants available for fall planting. Any of you avid gardeners looking for fall veggie plants, Johnson's Feed and Seed has them.

I've attached a picture of the plants to show they are not the limp, wilted plants you might find at the big box stores. The plants are grown by a local grower, not shipped in from who knows where. These folks are tops in my book.

Council Majority vs Mayor and Citizens of Salisbury

Those who would continue to keep this city in turmoil demand to know Mayor Ireton's schedule when school reopens. Had these instigating obstructionists been paying attention they would know the mayor negotiated a part time position with the WCBOE. He was elected to fill a part time position as mayor. Unlike the former leader of the Reich, this mayor has to work for a living. Everyone casting their votes knew this in advance. I believe Mr. Ireton said he would be teaching in the mornings and be available in the GOB until late in the evening, long after city employees had gone home.

What's the problem? Barrie Tilghman spent her days at the gym, playing bridge down at High Banks, shopping at Kuhns, scheming to cover up the fiasco at the WWTP, manipulating to acquire the bog that the fire palace is built on, twisting and turning to cover up the fact that Mike Dunn and his father owned the property now known as Sassafras Meadows, let us not forget the controversial pipestem annexation, and this was during her last term as mayor. The underhanded deeds from her first days in office are too long to list. She was not in the GOB 5 days a week, 8-10 hours per day, during her 12 year reign of terror, EVER.

During his campaign, Mayor Ireton and his campaign staff knew nothing would change if the District 1 seat didn't change. So, we got what we have, all for 1 vote. Everyone in this city knew he would be fighting an uphill battle every day, with every decision. The council majority are not, I repeat, ARE NOT, team players. The only team they play for is the team of Barrie Tilghman and special interest groups.

Mayor Ireton and the city are stuck with Barrie Tilghman's budget. Although Louise Smith is listed as council president, it is without a doubt Gary Comegys is running that sideshow. Comegys is still smarting from his loss of the mayor's seat, and what a loss it was, don't expect him to work with the mayor on anything. Louise Smith has her marching orders, continue to lie to the public, as she has since she started knocking on doors during her campaign, and vote with Gary Comegys. Same old Louise. Shanie Shields, admits she has done absolutely nothing since 2005 until Mayor Ireton vetoed the donation of the Lake Street property. Why would she stand out for something that would in no way, shape or form benefit her constituents in District 1? She stood out because Gary Comegys told her to, that's why.

The council majority is destroying this city. They knew Mayor Ireton did not and would not support their action to accept a "donation" of the Lake St. property. Mayor Ireton made them aware of his position in advance of the meeting. His veto is no surprise to them, and should not have been a surprise to anyone, no matter how they spin it. Remember, all three of these people are Tilghman puppets. Comegys and Smith have been caught in enough lies to bury them. Shields has made enough stupid statements to keep everyone laughing, she has not offered an original thought since her first day on council. The only thing Shanie has to offer the council majority and their special interest groups, is the race card. Shanie has misplayed her race card on the Lake Street properties, and she knows it.

What is their game plan, you might ask? Their plan is to apply as much pressure on the mayors office with the expectation that Jim will throw his hands up and quit. NEWSFLASH: IT'S NOT GOING TO WORK THIS TIME AROUND BARRIE.

Mayor Ireton is saddled with Barrie Tilghmans administration, none of whom can be trusted. John Pick has done more backpedaling than a unicyclist in the Barnum and Bailey circus. Paul Wilber, should retire his shingle. A sitting judge has opined that Wilber works for special interests (landlords) and not the citizens. How can anyone expect Jim Ireton to perform as promised during his campaign, when the city administrator and city solicitor can not be trusted? I won't even get into his department heads that think they still work for Barrie.

So what can we expect from our new mayor? We can expect him to have to fight for everything. We can expect the council majority to fight against him at every turn. We can expect nothing to get done, no matter how hard he works or how loud the citizens scream. Is Mayor Ireton's term in office going to be a term of vetoes? If necessary, I hope so.

Until the administration, council majority, department heads and others get the message, THE WITCH IS DEAD, I predict a long 4 years for the mayor and citizens of Salisbury.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason.. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.

Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

TheConstitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? Nancy Pelosi. She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want. If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red ..

If the Army &Marines are in IRAQ, it's because they want them in IRAQ

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They, and they alone, have the power.

They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

We Are Change Colorado - Military Confirms States Deciding Mandatory Vaccination

While asking questions with the CDC Pentagon representative, We Are Change Colorado was able to get a video confirmation that States will be deciding on the issue of mandatory vaccinations, not the Federal government.

Resume:

Delaware State Police, DEA Dover Task Force, Dover Police Department, Milford Police Department, Georgetown Police Department, Probation and Parole and Dewey Beach Police Department have concluded a 7 month investigations that results in the arrest of 7 individuals for narcotics racketeering and related drug charges after several raids were conducted. In addition 6 suspects are still wanted as a result of the investigation.

On Thursday, August 13, police executed 7 search warrants in the Lewes, Milton and Milford areas of Sussex County in connection with the investigation. As a result of this investigation Devaughn Ayers was implicated as a main supplier of cocaine and crack cocaine in the Lewes / Pinetown area. Ayers used a residence located at 30093 Pinetown Road and 17716 Cone Lane in the Lewes area. Ayers and several co-conspirators were responsible for the distribution of over 1 kilogram of cocaine.

When Ayers was arrested on Thursday on Pinetown Road and was found in possession of 100.5 grams of crack cocaine and paraphernalia. A search warrant executed at Cone Lane resulted in the seizure of several handguns and a shotgun and additional paraphernalia. Most of the items were in a BMW parked in the residence which was maintained by Ayers. He was arrested for Organized Crime and Racketeering, 7 counts of Trafficking Cocaine, Possession with the intent to Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Vehicle, 14 counts of Conspiracy 2nd, 9 counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, 5 counts of delivery of Cocaine, 8 counts of Criminal Solicitation 2nd, and 4 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited and Receiving a Stolen Firearm. He was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $631, 500 cash bond.

A subsequent warrant was executed at the home of Anthony and Steven Francis located at 30213 Regetta Bay Blvd., Heron Bay, Lewes. As a result of the search police recovered 233 grams of marijuana.

Anthony Francis was charged with Organized Crime and Racketeering, 2 counts of Conspiracy 2nd , 2 counts of Criminal Solicitation 2nd, Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Dwelling, Tampering with Physical Evidence, 2 counts of Possession of Paraphernalia and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Anthony was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $3,500 bail

Steven Francis was charged with Maintaining a Dwelling, Conspiracy 2nd, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Steven was released on $3,500 bail.

A search warrant executed at Wayne Wyatt’s residence, 28468 West Springside Drive, Harbeson resulted in Wyatt’s arrest. He was charged with Organized Crime and Racketeering and 3 counts of Conspiracy 2nd. Wyatt was committed to the Department of Correction in default of $36,000 bail.

A warrant executed at the home of Michael Brewer and Mary McNeill located at 509 Burton Village, Rehoboth Beach resulted in the seizure of 41.7 grams of crack cocaine and paraphernalia. McNeill was taken into custody and charged with Trafficking Cocaine, Possession with the Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling, Conspiracy 2nd, 2 counts possession of drug paraphernalia and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. McNeill was committed on $87,500 bail. Brewer was not present at the time of the raid. Brewer is wanted by the state police for Trafficking Cocaine, Possession with the Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Maintaining a Dwelling, Conspiracy 2nd and 2 counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Milford Police executed a search warrant at the home of James Eley, located at 412 Bridgeham Ave., Milford. Eley was charged with Organized Crime and Racketeering and 3 counts of Conspiracy 2nd. Eley was committed on a no cash bond.

In addition Zelda Sheppard, 40, of Milton, was arrested on Pinetown Road during the raid. She was in possession of 21 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. She was arrested for Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana and 2 counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Troopers are also actively looking for the above subjects who are wanted of racketeering and drug charges.

AIR BOTTLE HOLDERS
All SCBA brackets in the cab and crew cab will be replaced with new "Hands-Free" auto clamp style bracket in its backrest. For efficiency and convenience, the bracket will include an automatic spring clamp that allows the occupant to store the SCBA bottle by simply pushing it into the seat back. For protection of all occupants in the cab, in the event of an accident, the inertial components within the clamp will constrain the SCBA bottle in the seat and will exceed the NFPA standard of 9G. Bracket designs with manual restraints (belts, straps, buckles) that could be inadvertently left unlocked and allow the SCBA to move freely within the cab during an accident, will not be acceptable.

Womens World Series Fast Pitch Softball

District 3, Laurel DE, lost to Southwest Louisiana, 2 to 3 in the girls fast
pitch softball world series in Roxanna DE. Both teams played good. A few issues
with the umpires but all in all was a good game. It was on ESPN.

Notes From 8-11-09 WBOE Meeting

The Wicomico County Board of Education at its monthly meeting on Aug. 11:

Heard from Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Fredericksen that:

- Schools are getting ready, curriculum work is ongoing, meetings are being held on how best to serve some of Wicomico's most challenging students, building improvements are taking place throughout the school system, particularly at the new James M. Bennett High, and staff training is taking place as the new school year approaches. The latest news is posted at www.wcboe.org.
- Word is anticipated soon from the Maryland Attorney General's Office on the school system's maintenance of effort agreement with Wicomico County.
- The Board is waiting for the governor to announce two appointees to the Board of Education. Sue Hitch, whose term ended June 30, is continuing to serve until her replacement is named. Brian Kilgore resigned on June 1 and the replacement will fulfill the remaining four years of the term.
- Regulations for using federal stimulus funds arrived that day and are being reviewed.
- Final quotes ranging from $7,000-$32,000 have been received for conducting a school climate survey whose results would be compared with the results of other surveys. The survey committee will look at the proposals for different types of surveys.
- He will be sitting down with a group of students Aug. 12 at Salisbury Middle School for a videotaped group interview that will air later on PAC 14.

Reports

Received for information the monthly classified personnel matters report, updated reports on competitive grant applications for 2008-09 and 2009-10, and the July 14 project listing report from Facility Services. Board members praised the comprehensive project listing report. A summer projects update will be available soon. The Board also approved the monthly personnel report for certificated employees and August budget transfers, some of which will require County Council approval.

Promotions and Appointments

Approved the appointment of Jackie Deal and the promotion of Cynthia Waters to serve as pupil personnel workers, and the ratification of the superintendent's appointment of Stacy Messick as coordinator of employee relations.

Pre-Qualification

Approved the pre-qualification of a number of professional architectural and engineering firms for miscellaneous small scale projects (fees under $100,000).

Tuition

Approved the tuition rate schedule for 2009-10 for non-resident students, both in-state and out-of-state, and for non-resident CTE students.

Bid Awards

Awarded the bid for miscellaneous masonry to Cain Masonry Inc. as the primary vendor and Hayward Masonry as the secondary vendor as the low responsive and responsible bidders. In 2008-09, approximately $25,000 was spent on miscellaneous masonry projects.

Voted to utilize the National IPA DuPage County Contract #P08-02 with Canon Business Solutions to lease three color copiers to replace similar existing color copiers.

Voted to utilize the Eastern Shore of Maryland's Educational Consortium Food Service Committee contract with Schmidt Baking Company Bread Products for Food Services bread products. The annual contract value for the school system is $139,100.

Awarded the contract for ice cream products to Jack & Jill Ice Cream, through a unit price contract with the Eastern Shore of Maryland's Educational Consortium Food Service Committee. The annual contract value is $62,000 for Wicomico Food Services.

Voted to purchase food services equipment from several different vendors as the low responsive and responsible bidders in order to replace some Food Services equipment with available American Recovery & Reinvestment Act ($97,000) and Food Services funds.

Awarded the Bid for General Materials of Instruction -- Unit Price and Catalog Contract to School Specialty as the low responsive and responsible bidder, at an annual contract value of $315,000.

Food Services Budget

Approved the Food Services budget for the 2009-10 school year. The balanced budget of $6,830,498 includes a $750,000 transfer from the school system's general fund (subsidizing food services is a common practice for school systems) and does not include any meal price increases for students. In addition to the traditional lunch and breakfast programs, Food Services provides an after-school snack program for some locations, the Maryland Meals for Achievement breakfast program in several schools, a summer food service program at 17 sites, and enterprise catering.

Planned Transitioning of Adult Basic Education

Voted to begin planning the transitioning of the school system's Adult Basic Education program to a successor agency effective June 30, 2010, when the current state grant expires. Offered for many years with grant support from the Maryland State Department of Education, Adult Basic Education is now shifting to the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing & Regulation as a program that is closely aligned with job training. Wicomico will inform the secretary of Labor, Licensing & Regulation of its intention not to continue the program so the state can prepare a request for proposal to determine a successor sponsoring agency. The school system will help ensure an orderly transition because the program is a valuable one, but it will be delivered better by an organization with a closer focus on jobs, Dr. Fredericksen said. In many communities across the country, adult basic education is now delivered at a community college. The school system will focus on its K-12 program.

Bus Contracts

Awarded bus contracts to Eric Morris (bus 20, serving Pemberton and West Salisbury elementary schools) and Bruce Lewis (bus 502, serving Willards Elementary, Pittsville Elementary and Middle, and Beaver Run Elementary).

Board Member Reports

Heard from Board President Mark Thompson that he has been visiting schools this summer and that schools are eager to have Board members visit -- though not for full tours on the first couple of days of the school year.

Heard from President Thompson that the Wicomico County Board of Education will be recognized Aug. 20 with a certificate of appreciation as an employer who supports employees in the Guard and Reserves.

Learned from board members Robin Holloway and Sue Hitch that there is area-wide difficulty in scheduling well visits to doctors because of a shortage of doctors due to the area's growing population as well as the recent, tragic death of Dr. Jose Alvarado, father of former student representative to the Board David Alvarado. Mrs. Holloway said the shortage of available well visits may be an issue if students aren't able to get their physicals for participating in sports.

Heard from Dr. Margo Handy, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Support Services, that the school system is working closely with the Health Department to ensure it has the latest information on H1N1 for schools, custodial staff and school nurses. The school system will share consistent, current information on protective measures with school families.
