James (Jim) P. Ireton, Jr. is an American politician, who was elected the mayor of Salisbury, Maryland in a municipal election on April 7, 2009.

Ireton assumed office on April 20, 2009. He is the city's first openly gay mayor.

[1]Ireton was elected with 58% of the vote, while his opponent Gary Comegys earned 41% of the vote. There were 2,647 votes cast in the election, 21% of the registered voters in Salisbury, MD.

Ireton ran on a platform of transparency in government, reducing crime, cleaning up the Wicomico River, and revitalizing Salisbury neighborhoods.

The Rivers Edge project is up for discussion. Developer is asking for a letter of support and financing support.

This project will cost around $16.5 million. $12.5 million will come from loans. The low rents will last for 40 years. $300.00 to $900.00 a month in rent. $16,000.00 to $45,000.00 a year in personal income qualifies applicants to live there.

Councilwoman Shields asked in a work session that this project cater more towards her constituents in that community.The developer agrees to work harder at making her proposal work.

Kate Gibson is now speaking. She's very concerned about Downtown. This is a low income subsidized housing project and she doesn't believe Salisbury needs more. Clearly she's not supportive of more affordable housing. She's very concerned and feels it will effect the Downtown. She's concerned about the people that will be moving in.How long before its torn apart, how long will it take for crime to go up.

Ben is now speaking. He's calling it an artist colony and he supports it. He sees two strong points of progress. The ability to have responsible affordable housing shows Salisbury isn'tjust a stop on Rt. 50 and Rt. 13. He supports the responsible growth. He's thanking the Council for their support.

Shanie Shields is expressing how upset she was that this project had changed. However, she's willing to work with the developer. She believes it will enhance the marina. She looks forward to working with the developer when this comes to "fruitation" and "idears".

Mrs. Campbell is expressing how excited she is about this project. She believes it will be a destination for the arts district. Mr. Spies sees this project as not only an area for artist to live affordably, this allows artists to expand on their artistic abilities. Great opportunity for children as well.

Art doesn't know color, age or gender, said Council President Terry Cohen.

Council is discussing West Nile Virus and mosquito's and asking to increase the budget by $40,000.00 above and beyond the current $20,000.00 already set in their budget. They are asking that each resident please police your yards and clear it of any standing water, including clearing your gutters.

Council is taking a 10 minute recess and will return to discuss the $650,000.00 increase for Salisbury Police Department.

While they are on this break, do ANY of you realize or notice just how smooth this meeting is going? I wanted to start this sentence by saying, "I don't want to be critical" because as all of you know, I plan on running for Mayor. However, while I'm Blogging I must do my job. That being said, without Ireton and Mitchell, the meeting is going extremely well and without ANY outbursts, grandstanding or interruptions. My point is, I SEE WHERE THE PROBLEMS LIE, DO YOU?

Council is back. Mayor Ireton is at a PTA Meeting tonight. Looks like he's trying to settle back in to his Teaching job, smart move.

Chief Duncan is now speaking. 92 sworn, 32 civilians and serving 30,300. Handled 51,000 calls for service. Compared to Annapolis and Dover, they have 116 sworn officers. Dover has 93 sworn Officers. Comparing per officer, our officers handled over 1,200 calls. In other words, per capita, Salisbury is extremely understaffed and overwhelmed.

Quality is strained just based on work load, according to Maciarello. To be a true community policing agency we need to spend 45 to 50% of our time in the community. Reality, we spend about 20%. Chief Duncan just corrected the actual numbers misquoted in the work session last week. We have officers actively seeking employment elsewhere and that total is 13 people looking for jobs elsewhere.

Salary issues, $36,4 starting. $42,700 on OC. MSP base is $40,000.00. Fruitland is $36,500.00 starting.

I disagree with Duncan giving raises to 60 Police Officers. I can see bringing starting salaries up to where it needs to be to compete but to give EVERY ONE raises is just flat out wrong. The point is to help bring in EXPERIENCED Officers. I support giving the Police what had been promised to them year ago but above and beyond is not right. This seems to be an almost bribe to keep what they have.

Matt Maciarello is expressing his concerns and he's right, Salisbury needs more Officers.However, Salisbury needs more EXPERIENCED Officers and again it it my personal belief the funding they are discussing should be planned much better. what I mean by that is, again, they should NOT be paying 60 Officers additional money. They should fulfill their promise years ago and what's left over needs to go to new, experienced Officers.

Public Works is now grandstanding and asking for a pay increase as well. They are claiming they are losing employees as well. 65% of public works employees have a second job, according to this citizen. They are asking the City to table this and reconsider public works as well.

Public Works is actually starting to make sense. One employee just said they wished they had a leader like Chief Duncan to stand up and support their department.

"ALL City Employees are doing more for less".

YOU'VE DONE A GREAT JOB MAYOR IRETON!!!!! This should be a major embarrassment to the Mayor.

Howard Landon is now speaking. Treat everybody fair. $591.00 every two weeks, he's holding a paycheck from a man who rides the back of a garbage truck. Can YOU survive on that? This is a slap in the face to the rest of the City Employees.

$646,000.00 is what the Police need. Compounded to the balance of this year they need, $447,607.44 for 16 more pay periods. Dispatchers are NOT included.

Council moved forward on first reading. John Pick asked them to table it so the Mayor could have the opportunity to discuss the figures and the Council MAJORITY said, NO. For what it's worth, at this point its none of the Mayors business. He dropped the ball on this as well as the formerMayor Tilghman by ignoring the Police for at least 8 years.

No More Flying Illegals Back To Mexico

The Border Patrol has stopped flying illegal immigrants back to Mexico, ending a 7-year experiment that cost nearly $100 million. The agency flew home more than 125,000 Mexican citizens who had crossed the border illegally. Supporters say it was a humane way to return people to Mexico and deter other would-be migrants. But officials are now struggling to fill the planes as Border Patrol arrests are at 40-year lows and fewer people are coming to the United States.

Student Tries To Start White-Pride Group At Towson University

White students who feel discrimination because of their race may get a support group at Towson University.

Senior Matthew Heimbach is trying to launch a white-pride organization on campus, The Baltimore Sun   reports.

He says the group would provide a positive view of white identity but would not disparage others.

But two other rovers are taking home the prize. The team behind older Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity has earned a Haley Space Flight Award. The team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., joins the likes of John Glenn, the first man to orbit the Earth, in receiving the award. The solar-powered Spirit and Opportunity have been on Mars for almost nine years. Opportunity is still at work, exploring rocks in search of clay, which could provide new information about a formerly wet environment.The small rovers pale in size when compared to their newest cousin, Curiosity. It landed on the red planet last month and is the size of a car.

Delegate, Raven Clash Over Same-Sex Marriage

Sports and politics have collided in Maryland, taking the same-sex marriage debate well beyond the state's borders after an NFL player wrote a scathing, open letter to a lawmaker.

The initial figure was Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, who has supported same-sex marriage for years.

He has appeared in a video for Marylanders for Marriage Equality  and more recently, offered a pair of tickets for a fundraiser at the team's home opener.

Governor announces mission following opening for Israeli company ELTA North America, which will create 100 new jobs in Maryland

ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 10, 2012) – As part of a continuing effort to expand Maryland’s global reach and further strengthen the State’s strong business and cultural ties internationally, Governor Martin O’Malley today announced that he will lead a delegation of business, elected and civic leaders on an eight-day economic development mission in late November to Israel.

Earlier today, the Governor joined U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin, Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger, Israel’s Ambassador to the U.S. Dr. Michael Oren, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, and Howard County Executive Ken Ulman at an event in Fulton to celebrate the opening of ELTA North America. The company, which leverages state-of-the-art technology from ELTA Systems Ltd., the world’s 4th largest radar company and a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), announced plans to create 100 new high-tech jobs in the State.

While the itinerary is still being developed, Governor O’Malley is scheduled to travel to Eilat to speak at the Eilat-Eilot Renewable Energy and Innovation Conference alongside Israel’s Chief Scientist Avi Hasson. He will then travel back to Tel Aviv where he will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; host a breakfast reception for high-tech Israeli entrepreneurs; and participate in a wreath laying ceremony and tour of Yad V’Shem, Israel’s Holocaust Memorial. This will be Governor O’Malley’s second economic development mission to Israel, having led a delegation of business leaders there in 2008.

The Governor is also scheduled to meet with executives from ELTA Systems Ltd., one of Israel’s leading defense electronics companies and the parent company of ELTA North America. Maryland has long maintained ties with Israel, building on shared strengths in biotechnology, IT and aerospace and defense. Currently about 20 Israeli companies maintain offices in Maryland, including Teva BioPharmaceuticals, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and IMI Services (a subsidiary of Israel Military Industries). In 2011, Israel was Maryland’s 47th largest trading partner with $48.8 million in product exports, mostly chemicals, transportation equipment, and computer, electronic and electrical products.

The O’Malley-Brown Administration has taken significant steps to ramp up the State’s international outreach. Last year, the Governor led two historic economic development missions – one to China, South Korea and Vietnam and one to India – that netted a combined $145 million in trade and investment deals for the State and the companies that were part of the delegation. As a result, several delegations from those countries have visited Maryland in recent months, which have resulted in additional partnerships and deals for Maryland companies.

The State has also opened a number of foreign trade offices in targeted countries, including Maryland’s first Africa trade office which opened in August. In addition to Israel and Africa, the State has foreign offices in China (Shanghai), Colombia, France (Paris), Russia, South Korea (Seoul), Taiwan (Taipei), Vietnam (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City) and the Western Balkans (Montenegro). Congress Back To Work

Congress returns to work today with a full plate of bills to pass but lawmakers have little much appetite for any of them. Lawmakers however are expected to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government funded for another six months. Funding for food stamps would dry up if lawmakers don't pass a farm bill to replace or extend the existing law that expires at the end of the month. Other bills awaiting action include cybersecurity reform and a bailout for the Postal Service. And lawmakers aren't likely to take up the automatic budget cuts known as sequestration until after the November election.

With the party conventions over, it is safe to predict that all the fuss and blather have changed the minds of very few people. Same goes for all the political coverage of the conventions. Campaigns are important, but what are much more important are the fundamentals of governing. GM Loses Over $49,000 On Every Chevy Volt

Watching Phil LeBlow providing Ford with a reacharound this morning reminded us of total farce that is both the forest and the trees of the US auto industry. We have discussed the FUBAR channel-stuffing and the subprime-lending SNAFU but now, as Reuters reports, we see the ugly truth about GM's little baby "the Volt is over-engineered and over-priced". Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds.

Furthermore, there are some Americans paying just $5,050 to drive around for two years in a vehicle that cost as much as $89,000 to produce. And while the loss per vehicle will shrink as more are built and sold, GM is still years away from making money on the Volt, which will soon face new competitors from Ford, Honda and others.

Southern Schools Dominate List Of Best Colleges For Free Speech

Just as college students head off to campus, a list of schools that hold the First Amendment above political correctness is out  — with a slew of Southern schools leading the way.

The list  , released Wednesday by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), cites James Madison University, the College of William & Mary, the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, the University of Virginia and the University of Pennsylvania for protecting free speech on campus and maintaining policies honoring freedom of expression.

"It's easy for students to get caught up in the frenzy of trying to get into the best-ranked schools, but if the college you attend doesn't respect free speech, your education will suffer regardless of how high the college is ranked," FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said.

Magic of 2008 Eludes Obama After Flat Convention

The consensus on Barack Obama’s acceptance speech Thursday night, and in effect on the Democratic National Convention as a whole, is that it was a bust.

One reason may be optics. Obama was scheduled to deliver the speech in a stadium seating 64,000 people. But on Wednesday, after Charlotte, N.C., had been pummeled by periodic rainstorms all week, organizers moved the event to the convention hall.

The last two stadium acceptance speeches, in 2008 and 1960, were delivered in Denver and Los Angeles, where it seldom rains in the summer. That’s not true of Charlotte — or of Tampa, Fla., where Republicans took a risk by scheduling their convention at the start of hurricane season.

So Obama spoke at the same podium as Bill Clinton had the night before. The comparison was not flattering to the 44th president.

Clinton was animated, loose, constantly ad libbing, varying his gestures and expression. Obama seemed more mechanical, less fluent. The contrast with the videos shown earlier of his campaigning in 2008 was not helpful.

And, perhaps unexpectedly, John Kerry and Joe Biden delivered more interesting speeches before Obama spoke.

Liberal Nonsense Of The Day: “Dirty” Harry Reid Tells Some More Lies

It is said that victory has a thousand fathers but that defeat is an orphan. Nowhere is the truth of that phrase more evident than in the Democratic Party today. When anything positive occurs, there is a frenzy to claim credit; but the Party “leaders” refuse to take responsibility for any of the economic turmoil they have caused.

Part of being a leader is owning up to the responsibility of your mistakes. While it is fine that liberals and conservatives have a fundamental difference of opinion on how to turn our country around, what is intolerable is the unwillingness by the left to yield to cold, hard facts that indicate that their radical, socialist agenda is not working. If they don’t believe me, I’ll be happy to show them the figures.

As I discussed earlier, the unemployment rate dropped to 8.1% for August, but only because 368,000 people have been out of work so long, they are no longer factored into the calculations. While this news is troubling, what’s even worse is that the Democrats, who control the Senate and the White House, have no plans to correct our economic problems.

Okay, I’ll take that back- they have no good ideas to fix the problems. Since to them more government seems to be the panacea to fix any malady, the solutions most proposed by Democrats is to just create a bigger government and to throw money we don’t have at the problem. However, it is that radical bastardization of Keynesian economics that ballooned our national debt to a whopping $16 trillion and provided us with nothing in return but a GDP of 1.7%.

‘CREEPY’? JOE BIDEN CUDDLES UP TO FEMALE BIKER DURING OHIO CAMPAIGN STOP

Vice President Joe Biden has added another item to the long list of questionable decisions   he has made while serving in public office.

At Cruisers Diner in Seaman, Ohio Sunday, the Associated Press snapped a photo of the man with a female biker either on his lap or very near it.  Biden‘s hand is resting on the woman’s shoulder, and his head appears to be touching her bandana as he leans in close to say something, grinning wildly.

The woman‘s companions don’t seem nearly as excited about the encounter, looking on with expressionless faces.

It’s Just A Small Convention Bounce. Don’t Get Freaked

Obama is a little ahead of Mitt Romney and people are getting nervous. Keep a few things in mind.

1) Obama was expected to get a small bounce from the convention. He did.

2) Romney’s massive ad campaign in the swing states has just started and unlike McCain, who was outspent 3-to-1, Romney will either run even with Obama or outspend him in every state that matters in the final two months.

3) Keep in mind that Jimmy Carter was ahead of Ronald Reagan at this point in the campaign.

So, when you should start to worry?

In late September, early October, if Obama is sitting somewhere around 46% to 47% in reputable polls of likely voters, he’s in trouble. If they’re knotted up at around 48%, it’s probably going to be a really close election. If Obama still has a lead at that point and is polling at 49% or above, Mitt’s the one in trouble.

Republicans Must Offer Alternative To Democrat Moral Bankruptcy

Maybe Democrats have some slick salesmen, like Bill Clinton and our current president, who can sell you swampland and have you convinced that you’ve bought choice beachfront property.

But the omission of any mention of God and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital from the Democratic Party platform, which were in it in 2008, and then the almost failed attempt to add them after the fact, showed the clear truth about the 2012 Democratic Party.

It took three boisterous floor votes to add these principles to the platform and listening to the ayes and nays in the third vote, it is questionable that they actually got the two thirds that were needed.

The omission of these key principles from the Democratic platform was the party equivalent of what journalist Michael Kinsley calls a political gaffe – when a politician inadvertently says what he really believes.

Democrat party operatives panicked when they realized that the platform, as initially drafted, showed today’s Democrats exactly for who they are – the home base for the nihilism, radical moral relativism, and welfare statism that defines today’s far left.

But the Democrats are the party of the entertainment industry. They know how to create fiction and appeal to fantasies.

So the party of the radical left brands Republicans as extremists.

The United States is still a religious nation.

NEW BLACK PANTHERS AT VOTING BOOTHS AGAIN?

Malik Zulu Shabazz, national chairman of the New Black Panther Party, stated today in a radio interview that his controversial group may deploy at voting booths in the November presidential elections, claiming such a move is needed to ensure there is no “intimidation against our people.”

The NBPP was the focus of national attention after Eric Holder’s Department of Justice dismissed voter intimidation charges against the groups leaders related to the 2008 presidential election.

During an interview on WABC Radio’s “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio,” Shabaz was asked whether his group is planning to go to U.S. polling stations in the upcoming presidential election.

The DNC As I Saw It

I spent this week in Camp Vagina, aka the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte. I call it Camp Vagina because attendees heard more about genitals than any ideas on how to fix President Obama’s broken economy. Overall, for a convention to promote a campaign with the theme of “Forward,” Democrats sure spent a lot of time looking backwards.

Trying to get the audience to look backwards makes perfect sense when you consider the endless parade of parasites and degenerates who marched across the stage.

Tampa vs. Charlotte

Tampa, Fla., was like the Republican National Convention delegation — older, more experienced, less excitable. Tampa has hosted the Super Bowl; the city had lots of space and nothing to prove. There was a been there/done that feel to the entire affair. Tampa Bay is used to welcoming visitors and has plenty of nice hotels to host them.

You say a hurricane is coming? No worries. They laid out some sandbags, closed up for a night and started up a day later. No need to rush a convention. People don’t come to Florida to be in a hurry.

Charlotte, N.C., is a younger, more eager town, and it drew a younger, more jazzed set of delegates. The chance to host the Democratic National Convention delegation put the city in the big time. Volunteers dotted the convention center, greeting passers-by. They went out of their way to make visitors feel welcome.

Like a young family, the city didn’t have a lot of room (as in hotel rooms), and that made for lots of griping.

The Obama campaign’s decision to open up President Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech to non-delegate volunteers by staging the event at the larger Bank of America Stadium turned out to be impetuous. After the convention czars canceled the venue on account of possible thunderstorms, Republicans were thankful that they then could claim Obama could not draw enough volunteers to fill the stadium’s 70,000 seats.

Amazon, In Switch, Will Let Kindle Users Pay To Opt Out Of Ads

Amazon.com, in an apparent switch in its pricing policy, said over the weekend that it will allow purchasers of its new Kindle Fire tablets to pay $15 extra to turn off advertisements that are built into the devices. 

The change came barely a day after Amazon on Thursday unveiled larger Kindle Fire tablets, priced from $159 to $599, to challenge Apple Inc's dominant iPad on price and additional digital content. 

Amazon had said the tablets would come with ads known as "special offers" that appear when screens are locked and in the corner of the home screen, helping keep prices low. But criticism of the company mounted in online forums after reports that the company would not allow buyers to pay to block the ads as it had done with earlier tablets.

On America's Middle-Class Divide

With both political parties having concluded their respective rah-rah-fests and each vehemntly proclaiming "The Other Side" [3] as failing miserably; it appears, as Raghuram Rajan points out in his latest article [4] that while America’s presidential election campaign is superficially a debate about health care and taxes; it is much more fundamentally about democracy and/or free enterprise. As he notes, democracy implies regarding individuals as equal and treating them as such, with every adult getting an equal vote, whereas free enterprise empowers individuals based on how much economic value they create and how much property they own.

What prevents the median voter in a democracy from voting to dispossess the rich and successful? And why do the latter not erode the political power of the former?

The answer relies upon the 'dream' (American or otherwise) of a level playing field and hard-work paying off; once that middle-class hope begins to fade then the self-reinforcing benefits of democracy and free-enterprise will become self-destructive (not helped by the current parties' actions to enrage the middle-class 'working rich' against those losing faith).

The United States needs to restore the possibility of achieving the American Dream for its middle class, even while it reaffirms the historically light regulation and relatively low tax burden that have allowed enterprise to flourish.

Scientists have been studying solar influences on the climate for more than 5,000 years.

Chinese imperial astronomers kept detailed sunspot records. They noticed that more sunspots meant warmer weather. In 1801, the celebrated astronomer William Herschel (discoverer of the planet Uranus) observed that when there were fewer spots, the price of wheat soared. He surmised that less light and heat from the sun resulted in reduced harvests.

Earlier last month, professor Richard Muller of the University of California-Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) project announced that in the project’s newly constructed global land temperature record, “no component that matches solar activity” was related to temperature. Instead, Mr. Muller said carbon dioxide controlled temperature.

Could it really be true that solar radiation — which supplies Earth with the energy that drives our climate and which, when it has varied, has caused the climate to shift over the ages — is no longer the principal influence on climate change?

Consider the accompanying chart. It shows some rather surprising relationships between solar radiation and daytime high temperatures taken directly from Berkeley’s BEST project. The remarkable nature of these series is that these tight relationships can be shown to hold from areas as large as the United States.

Newspaper In Ditch

Hey Joe,

Just thought you would like to know: We received a Delmarva Crossroad’s newspaper thrown out in the ditch in front of our house tonight, (Sunday). The individuals delivering were driving so fast, most of the papers that they were throwing out were ending up in the middle of the road. I ran the delivery person down and asked them to stop throwing them out. When I went back home, I called the number on the back of the paper and left a message with our address asking to stop delivery here. Within a very few minutes an individual claiming to be John Robinson called me back (mind you I didn’t leave my phone number on my message). I informed him we did not want the paper here and also tried to inform him that the individuals delivering the paper were driving at a high rate of speed (for our neighborhood). Upon sharing this, the individual that called me (male) got argumentative. At that time, I forcefully told him “do not call me anymore”.

Upon hanging up on him, this same individual called right back. He proceeded to get very argumentative again, which escalated me to becoming very belligerent with him. Approximately 10 minutes went by and we started getting robo calls from an automatic dialer addressed thorough a weird set up of connections (which ended up being text to voice from a cell phone number), telling us that we have been removed from their publication list. Trouble is the robo dialer called four times.

I hope the computer call that we got is correct and we have been removed from their list.

I’m just wondering if anyone else feels the same way that I do. I feel quite sure I’m not the only one that does not want this paper thrown out in my yard. It seems evident that other people don’t want it either because it ends up laying on the side of the road or in ditches, never to be picked up.

Publishers Notes: Over the weekend I received a message from a very reliable source who informed me Robinson did a full page ad, (wanting to charge them $250.00 a week) and they did NOT agree to sign up. Robinson went ahead and published it anyway.

It seems Mr. Robinson is taking a page from Jonathan Taylor, putting up ads people do not want and when and if they tell them to take it down, oh boy! Taylor used to harass them and even go so far as to tell them he was going to do everything in his power to destroy their business.

We have seen several complaints come in about deliveries, radical driving, illegal flashing strobe lights on the vehicle without permits and or being an emergency vehicle, the list goes on and on similar to yours.

I have stated this from the beginning. If Robinson simply had a paper like the Coastal Dispatch, the Beachcomber, Ocean City Today and The Guide and they were all placed in specific locations where people had the opportunity to pick them up at will, that would be one thing. However, shoving it down your throats, (to me) is pretty much littering.

I would think with enough complaints to the City and County your representatives would have to do something about this nuisance. In the mean time, know that some advertisers are NOT paying to advertise in that paper and always know that Salisbury News charges $100.00 A MONTH for an ad, NOT $250.00 a week. Know that Salisbury News circulation blows away Robinson's paper and guess what, they come here because THEY WANT TO.

I too have been the recipient of numerous phone calls from John Robinson any time we publish anything he disagrees with. I'm sure I'll get yet another call on this one telling me what I'm saying is not true. Well, it is true and I have the information proving such. Mr. Robinson needs to learn in this business that he can't bully people into getting his way. I can't and I won't be bullied by ANY ONE.

The "husky"one has a rabies tag dated 2008 contacted vet but he does not have records that far back. Please help by posting the attached pictures.

Lost Law Licenses: Presidents Obama, Clinton, And Nixon

In my article on the letter I received from a lawyer who insisted — inaccurately — that Michelle Obama let her license to practice law go inactive when her husband surrendered his license in early 2008, I responded: “Did Romney surrender his license? No. Did either of the Clintons surrender theirs? No. Did Nixon surrender his? No.”

I was responding to the argument that it was to be expected that a candidate for the nomination of President would surrender his right to practice law. On the contrary, it had never happened before in American history.

Then I listed people who had not surrendered their licenses: Romney, both Clintons, and Nixon.

I thought this point was obvious: I was talking about the nomination. Romney is not President. Neither is Mrs. Clinton.

Ships Added To Agent Orange List

The Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) urges all Vietnam veterans to review the latest updates to a list of U.S. Navy and Coast Guard (USCG) vessels exposed to Agent Orange during the Vietnam Era. The list, maintained by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), is of particular interest to those former service members experiencing health problems related to herbicide exposure, as it may help expedite their claims for VA health and disability benefits.

The list will be continuously updated to include more vessels that operated primarily or exclusively on Vietnam’s inland waterways; ships that temporarily operated in these inland waterways or docked to the shore; and ships that operated in Vietnam’s close coastal waters for extended periods with evidence that crewmembers went ashore. If a veteran's service aboard one of these ships can be confirmed through his military records during the specified time frames, exposure to herbicides can be presumed and service-related benefits may be available for Agent Orange-related ailments.

“Thousands of Navy and Coast Guard veterans who served aboard ships during the Vietnam conflict experience health problems related to herbicide exposure, but their illnesses and disabilities are not automatically considered service-connected in the eyes of the VA,” explains Slawinski. “The VA restricts this type of presumptive service connection to vets who had ‘boots on the ground’ or can prove their ship operated on inland waterways. Each addition to the VA’s list of exposed vessels will make it easier for these veterans to prove exposure and will hopefully facilitate more timely determination of benefits.”

Police, Event Organizers Blame Each Other For Event Cancellation

City officials say the Tough Mudder event attracted up to 20,000 participants and spectators on Saturday.

Walgreens Is NOT Rejoining TRICARE Pharmacy Network

TRICARE's drug-plan administrator, had settled a long-running contract dispute with Walgreen's drug store chain. Unfortunately, it appears this information was disseminated prematurely and widely reported.

FRA has learned that the two companies have not reached an agreement and Walgreen's will not return to the ESI retail pharmacy network. Express Scripts will maintain its current retail pharmacy network of more than 57,000 pharmacies available to TRICARE beneficiaries, and Walgreen's will continue to be a non-network pharmacy provider for TRICARE beneficiaries.

Shell Starts Preparatory Drilling off Alaska

Royal Dutch Shell has begun preparatory drilling for an offshore oil well in the Arctic, the oil company announced Sunday, the first step in a long-controversial project.

U.S. authorities granted Shell permission to begin work on the well in the Chukchi Sea, about 90 miles off the Alaskan North Slope, in late August.

"Today marks the culmination of Shell's six-year effort to explore for potentially significant oil and gas reserves, which are believed to lie under Alaska's Outer Continental Shelf," company spokesman Curtis Smith said in a writen statement. "In the days to come, drilling will continue in the Chukchi Sea, and we will prepare for drilling to commence in the Beaufort Sea."
