Resume
Lincoln- The Delaware State Police have arrested two teenage subjects after they fired several shots from a sawed off shotgun early Friday morning in Lincoln, DE.

The incident began at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 as Treyvon Bowman and Cory Mitchell, both 17 years of age, responded to a residence located in the 9000 block of Green Top Road in Lincoln, looking for a subject who Bowman had been having an on-going dispute with. Bowman then produced a sawed off shotgun and fired two rounds while standing in the front yard of the residence. Nothing was struck and there were no injuries. Bowman then fled from the residence in a Jeep Cherokee which was being operated by Cory Mitchell.

A short time later, Mitchell and Bowman arrived at a residence located in the 8000 block of Virginia Pine Road, in Lincoln, looking for the same subject. However they left without confronting the subject. At approximately 4:15 a.m. Mitchell and Bowman returned to the Greely Avenue residence in the Jeep Cherokee. Bowman then exited the vehicle and again fired several shots from the sawed off shotgun while standing in the front yard. Nothing was struck and there were no injuries. Bowman and Mitchell then fled from the residence.

Responding Troopers were able to locate the Jeep Cherokee a short time later at Cory Mitchell’s residence located in the 18000 block of Green Lee Street in Lincoln.  Both he and Treyvon Bowman were taken into custody without incident. A search of the Jeep yielded a sawed off shotgun, a set of brass knuckles, a knife, a baseball bat, and several shotgun shells.

Cory Mitchell and Treyvon Bowman were arrested and charged with the above list of crimes. They were both arraigned at the Sussex County Family Court. Treyvon Bowman was issued a $13,300 secured bail. Cory Mitchell was issued a $34,400 secured bail. It is unknown if either defendant was able to post bail at this time.

THE LUMBER CAMPS – part 2

Another tale out of the South Carolina lumber camps is the one about the time Grandpop thought he killed a man. These were rough times and his world surrounded him with rough men. Try to imagine a boy not yet 20 years old, 5 foot 7 inches tall and about 130 pounds in that environment. I would have to think that terror filled some of his thoughts. It certainly did that night when he was hanging around the company store, trying to relax and fit in. Apparently, he was leaning up against the counter when a large man tripped over his feet trying to get by. First, the man cursed him and then came toward him stammering something about teaching him a lesson. Grandpop backed up until he was in a corner occupied by a lard barrel. In his desperation, he grabbed the paddle out of the lard barrel and swung it at his assailant. Now, a lard paddle is about three feet long and looks something like a boat oar. He said it was a terrible sound when the paddle made contact with the side of the man’s head. The man went down, spilling all the teeth from one side of his mouth. At that point, Grandpop made a hasty exit, thinking that he surely must have killed the man. He went to another camp that very night and only after several weeks had passed did he learn that he had not killed the man. He said that he encountered the same man on a narrow path sometime later. He just knew that he was in for a beating. But, as they approached each other, the other man stepped aside and let him pass. It seems that no one mentioned to the man that he had been hit with a lard paddle. He just assumed that he had been hit by a fist and he wanted no more of the boy that could hit like a mule’s kick. Grandpop really liked this story. I heard this story many times over a period of 25 years and he never embellished it or wavered from the same facts.

Federal Judge Denies State Senator's Bid To Throw Out Bribery Charges

A federal judge in Baltimore has denied efforts by state Sen. Ulysses Currie and two former executives of Shoppers Food Warehouse to throw out bribery and extortion charges, leaving the prosecutor's case intact.

U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett ruled Friday that the government had correctly charged a case that alleges Currie was paid $245,000 in bribes over a five-year period for legislative favors and influence beneficial to the supermarket chain.

Taylors Bridge On Route 9 To Be Closed for Repairs

Townsend -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that the bridge over Blackbird Creek located on Route 9/Taylors Bridge Road will be closed beginning Monday, August 15 for repairs. The anticipated completion date is mid-September, pending weather.

It is necessary to close the bridge during repairs because permits issued by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers prohibit the storage of equipment or materials off the roadway. As a result, the equipment and materials will have to be stored on the road.

Traffic will be detoured as follows:

Route 9 Northbound
Paddock Road onto Eagles Nest Landing Road to Route 13 to Union Church Road and return to Route 9.

Route 9 Southbound
Union Church Road to Route 13 onto Eagles Nest Landing Road to Paddock Road and return to Route 9.

Work will include repairs to the drainage control portions of the bridge, as well as milling and overlaying bridge deck surface. The contractor is Eastern Highway Specialists.

Motorists should drive with caution, slow down in work zones, and never enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones.

NAILS IN THE FENCE

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.
The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence.

The fence will never be the same.

When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Remember that friends are very rare jewels indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open
their hearts to us.'

Perry Prayer Event Hopes To Pray Away The Malaise

Houston, Texas (CNN) – Rick Perry seems to believe in the power of mixing prayer and politics.

The Texas governor has called on both Christians and politicians to attend his religious gathering, dubbed "The Response," in Houston this weekend.

In a video posted on "The Response" web site, Perry said he hopes worshipers at the event will help kick-start the nation's sluggish economy. In other words: pray away the malaise.

Nothing Great About The Good Jobs Number

Here's the bad news about today's jobs report: It proves once and for all that we are in a slow growth economy. And that's worse news than you think.

Next to recent headlines, of course, most people would take slow growth. For the past few weeks, more and more forecasters have been saying that the economy may start to shrink and we will find ourselves back in recession.

July's jobs market number suggests that a new recession, or a double-dip, isn't going to happen anytime soon. In July, the number of people employed in the United States rose by 117,000.
