Arizona ‘Toughest Sheriff’ Arpaio Wins After Hispanic Opposition

The self-proclaimed “America’s toughest sheriff” was re-elected to a sixth term yesterday in Arizona, defeating a retired police sergeant and overcoming opposition from Hispanic groups.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, 80, a Republican, was defiant as he addressed supporters last night, criticizing the media for portraying the race as close and sending a message to Hispanics and President Barack Obama that he won’t back down from his controversial immigration enforcement. He said he would run again in four years.
“I will continue to enforce all the laws, including illegal immigration,” he said. “Nothing changes.”

NEED AN ELECTION BREAK? THE VIRAL VIDEO OF 9-YEAR-OLD GIRL DOMINATING THE BOYS IN FOOTBALL IS PERFECT

Sam Gordon is in little league football and has run for 1,911 yards with an 8.2-yard average per carry. Gordon has scored 35 touchdowns, and has even been compared by a YouTube commenter to Barry Sanders.
Did we mention Gordon is a girl playing on an all boys tackle team?
USA Today reported that Gordon is in the Gremlin age group, which consists mostly of 9-year-olds, in the Salt Lake City area. As seen in a compilation of footage uploaded into one video on YouTube, it’s clear that she knows how to rock a pigskin:

State Dept. Briefing for Foreign Reporters: ‘We’re Going to Get Downgraded’

An economic analyst invited by the State Department to brief a group of foreign journalists on the U.S. economy on Election Day responded to a question from a reporter from the Egyptian newspaper Al Wafd by predicting that U.S. Treasury securities—the means by which the U.S. government finances its debt--will be downgraded again.
On Aug. 5, 2011, three days after President Obama signed legislation increasing the U.S. government debt limit by $2.4 trillion, Standard & Poors downgraded U.S. Treasury securities from its highest grade of AAA to AA+. Prior to that, U.S. government debt had always maintained the highest rating.
At Tuesday's State Department event, the Egyptian reporter asked analyst Kathy Bostjancic, director of Macroeconomic Analysis for the nonpartisan Conference Board, what impact the so-called “fiscal cliff” facing the U.S. federal government would have on the rating of U.S. Treasury securities.

ISRAELI OFFICIAL: 'WE WILL NOT CAPITULATE BEFORE OBAMA

TEL AVIV – The state of Israel will not capitulate before President Obama, whose “naive” leadership has hurt the U.S., stated Danny Danon, deputy speaker of Israel’s Knesset.
Danon, a Knesset member from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party, was reacting to the re-election of Obama.
“Obama’s victory demonstrates that the state of Israel must take care of its own interests,” Danon said. “We cannot rely on anyone but ourselves. Obama has hurt the United States by his naïve leadership in foreign policy, which prefers the Arab world over the Western world, along with Israel. The state of Israel will not capitulate before Obama.”

Woman Who Drove On Sidewalk To Avoid Stopping For School Bus Must Wear 'Idiot' Sign

The judge sentenced Hardin to pay $250 in court costs and suspended her license for 30 days and more.
Hardin must also stand at the intersection of E. 38th Street and Payne Avenue wearing a sign next Tuesday and Wednesday that says "Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus." She has been ordered to wear the sign from 7:45 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. both days.

Ocean City Preps For Flooding, Erosion From Nor'easter

People in Ocean City have just barely finished clearing out the debris and damage from Superstorm Sandy, and now they're preparing for yet another possibly damaging storm.
A powerful nor'easter is making its way up the coast, and while many models show it won't be as bad of a hit in the Baltimore area, Ocean City residents are preparing to halt restoration work since Sandy blew through about a week ago.
Ocean City officials said emergency personnel are closely watching the nor'easter and will think about implementing an emergency plan late Wednesday morning, depending on how things unfold.

Small Business Outlook For Obama’s 2nd Term

President Barack Obama’s re-election to a second term takes away some of the uncertainty that small business owners have been carrying around. The question now is whether he can satisfy those who say he hasn’t done enough to help them expand and create jobs.

During Obama’s first term, the president pointed to steps he took to help small companies, such as proposing the Small Business Jobs Act of 2010 that cut taxes for small companies and made it easier for them to obtain federally guaranteed loans. These steps have helped some small businesses start their recovery from the recession.

“We’ve been seeing steady albeit modest growth in the economy since the president took office and we are cautiously optimistic,” says John Arensmeyer, CEO of Small Business Majority, an organization that lobbies on behalf of small companies.

NY Man Who Lost Leg In Crucifix Mishap Sues Church

David Jimenez was so elated over his wife's recovery from cancer that he offered to clean the large crucifix outside the Hudson Valley church where he spent many hours praying for her to beat the disease. On Memorial Day 2010, he was scrubbing grime off the cross when the 600-pound marble statuary toppled over, crushing his right leg.

The then-43-year-old immigrant from Mexico was flown to Westchester Medical Center, where doctors had to amputate his injured leg. He's suing the Roman Catholic church where he was hurt, and early next year his $3 million lawsuit is scheduled to go to trial.

"He attributed her recovery to his devotion to the cross and Christ hearing his prayers," Jimenez's lawyer, Kevin Kitson of White Plains, told The Associated Press.

One Can Easily See Why Wall Street Plummets Rightt After Election

Hi Joe
It's over for the ordinary American.  The day has arrived whereby the takers exceed the contributors.  When the masses vote to increase their benefits and with the Treasury poised to keep printing money - it comes as no surprise that Wall Street tumbled.
Obama is not going to do anything different other than increase the rewards for the non-workers.  Unfortunately - it is a sad day for America.  You have already lived and seen the best of America.  From here on - its downhill.

The Lull Before The Social Storm

Vast social revolutions and wars are often preceded by periods of giving up on reforms, despairing withdrawal from public life by the best and brightest, and even peacefulness which seems to have become the normal condition in spite of deep conflicts and growing crises beneath the surfaces of public life. Often, earlier periods of intense conflicts and crises have been overcome and resolved, so it comes to look like that is the normal in life. This lulls most people into assuming their worse fears cannot happen, but this leads them to lowering their guards against growing conflicts and crises, so small ones can more easily cascade down into massive ones. If people expected they could become vast wars or revolutions or implosions, they would take more precautions to prevent that. But when lulled in expecting the worst cannot happen, the worst than they could ever imagine often explodes suddenly.

The cataclysmic French Revolution came after many decades of attempted reforms and conflicts which people had come to think of as unending. It started with new attempts at reforms, then incidents that did not seem so important, then all of it a sudden it exploded. WWI came after so many decades of peace in Europe, in spite of imperial conflicts around the world and an arms race, that most people thought a major war was impossible. Then a single murder in the far away Balkans set in motion an explosive cascade of events that led to a cataclysmic war. The Russian Revolution was preceded by such a long "lull" encouraged by European peace and reforms by the tsar that even Lenin was near despair and was living abroad. After several years of WWI and growing poverty at home, the Russian front imploded and a small event at home triggered a revolution that started small and democratic and then exploded into one of the vastest social revolutions in history. The beginning of WWII on the crucial German-French front was so quiet for so many months after France and Britain had declared war on Germany after it invaded Poland that it was called the "Sitzen Krieg" in Germany, the sit-down war, then it exploded as Germany invaded through the Ardennes. This was repeated near the end of the war as Germany built up its forces secretly for attacking through the Ardennes again.

The American Revolution looked very unlikely until that fateful British march to Concord and Lexington to enforce gun control laws. Then it exploded. The conflicts between the North and South had been so intense for so many decades, off and on, and then resolved again and again by major compromises that the Ante-Bellum period of the 1850's seemed another replay of that scenario. Then all of a sudden there was a small incident near Charleston, moves to secession, calling up the Northern troops and an explosion of war vastly more ghastly than Americans imagined possible. War between Japan and Germany and the U.S. had been put off so many times and so long that Pearl Harbor came as quite a shock to most Americans. The 9/11 attacks on the U.S. were just as shocking all over again.

VOTERS PASS BALLOT MEASURES TO LEGALIZE RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA USE IN TWO STATES, INITIAL COUNTS SHOW

Early voting returns show that Colorado and Washington will become the first two states to legalize the recreational use of marijuana. Non-medical marijuana has been decriminalized in several states while remaining illegal and prosecuted federally, but the ballot measures passed by voters in these two states Tuesday will make marijuana in small amounts a legal commodity for adults, with sale and production regulated by the state.
Oregon had a similar ballot measure Tuesday that would legalize marijuana, but The Oregonian reports that measure is failing.

The Coming Age Of Austerity

"Are the good times really over for good?" asked Merle Haggard in his 1982 lament.

Then, the good times weren't over. In fact, they were coming back, with the Reagan recovery, the renewal of the American spirit and the end of a Cold War that had consumed so much of our lives.
Yet whoever wins today, it is hard to be sanguine about the future.

The demographic and economic realities do not permit it.

Consider. Between 1946 and 1964, 79 million babies were born – the largest, best-educated and most successful generation in our history.

Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both born in 1946, were in that first class of baby boomers.
The problem.

Assume that 75 million of these 79 million boomers survive to age 66. This means that from this year through 2030, an average of nearly 4 million boomers will be retiring every year. This translates into some 11,000 boomers becoming eligible for Medicare and Social Security every single day for the next 18 years.

The Five Reasons

Fox News and other media outlets have projected that President Obama has been reelected to a second term. If, in celebrating his victory Obama wanted to give credit where credit is due, he might want to think about calling some of America's top journalists, since their favorable approach almost certainly made the difference between victory and defeat.
Reviewing the 2012 presidential campaign, here are five ways the media elite tipped the public relations scales in favor of the liberal Obama and against the conservative challenger Mitt Romney:

1. The Media’s Biased Gaffe Patrol Hammered Romney: The media unfairly jumped on  inconsequential mistakes — or even invented controversies — from Romney and hyped them in to multi-day media “earthquakes.” Case in point: the GOP candidate’s trip to Europe and Israel in late July. A Media Research Center analysis of all 21 ABC, CBS and NBC evening news stories about Romney’s trip found that virtually all of them (18, or 86%) emphasized “diplomatic blunders,” “gaffes” or “missteps.”

Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer blasted the news coverage in an August 2 column, calling the trip “a major substantive success” that was wrapped “in a media narrative of surpassing triviality.”

Similarly, when the left-wing Mother Jones magazine in September put out a secretly-recorded video of Romney talking to donors about the 47% of Americans who don’t pay income taxes, the networks hyped it like a sensational sex scandal. Over three days, the broadcast network morning and evening shows churned out 42 stories on the tape, nearly 90 minutes of coverage. The tone was hyperbolic; ABC’s "Good Morning America" called it a “bombshell rocking the Mitt Romney campaign,” while ABC "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer declared it a “political earthquake.”

None of Obama’s gaffes garnered that level of coverage. After the president in a June 8 press conference declared that “the private sector is doing fine,” the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts gave it just one night’s coverage, then basically dropped the story — nothing further on ABC’s "World News" or the "CBS Evening News" in the weeks that followed, and just two passing references on the "NBC Nightly News."
And, when Obama infamously declared, “You didn’t buil
d that,” ABC, CBS, NBC didn’t report the politically damaging remark for four days — and then only after Romney made it the centerpiece of a campaign speech.

THE REAL REASON HURRICANE SANDY VICTIMS ARE DUMPSTER DIVING

Would you resort to dumpster diving to feed your family?
Not if you could help it.
That’s exactly what many regular New Yorkers thought last week. Now they’re literally digging through the trash for their next meal.
I’ve read the comments below the news stories. How anyone with half a brain should have prepared for the coming storm. Or at least have enough food and supplies to last them three measly days.

Nor'easter Could Bury NYC In 6 Inches Of Snow

storm
NOAA

After the destruction caused by Sandy last week, the last thing the East Coast needs is another storm. But that's what parts of the mid-Atlantic and New England coast are going to get, including some of the worst-affected areas in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, starting Wednesday evening.
Although this coastal storm is not anywhere near as powerful as Sandy, the main concern is that it will bring additional power outages and flooding to regions that are still in recovery mode.
Here's what to expect:
Snow
The possibility of snow depends on whether heavy precipitation moves far enough inland to cross with a blast of cold air. The National Weather Service predicts heavy snow (rates of 1 inch per hour) affecting areas from NYC to Hartford, CT from 3 to 4 p.m.
Wall Street Journal's meteorologist Eric Holthaus says to expect anywhere from 3 to 6 inches of snow in the Bronx and Manhattan and up to 4 inches in the other boroughs. Snow is already falling in downtown Philadelphia

QUOTE OF THE DAY 11-7-12

NO TRUER WORDS HAVE EVER BEEN SPOKEN:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. … My job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

Boehner: GOP House Majority Means 'No Mandate' For Tax Hikes

In a warning to President Obama, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday night that the reelection of the House Republican majority means that there is “no mandate for raising tax rates” on the American people.
Boehner delivered brief remarks to a subdued crowd of Republicans in Washington who watched as Obama won key early states on the road to a possible reelection victory Tuesday.
While the Speaker has in recent days predicted a victory for Republican nominee Mitt Romney, he made no such declaration shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, after the House was projected to stay in GOP hands.

OBAMA'S MANDATE

The verdict is in. Barack Obama has won a “resounding” victory in “the most important election of our lifetime.” Here are the details:
Barack Obama received 59.2 million votes to Mitt Romney’s 56.7 million votes. Gary Johnson was third, with 1.1 million votes. If the data being reported is correct, 117.6 million Americans cast votes in this election. This means that 50.3% of the people who voted, chose Barack Obama. Mitt Romney received 48.2% of the popular vote. Johnson and the rest of the candidates received 1.5% of the votes.
There are 235 million Americans age 18 or over in this country. Only 150 million of these people are registered to vote. This means that 32.4 million registered voters are either too ignorant, too lazy, or too disgusted with their choices to even cast a vote. That means 22% of registered voters decided to stay home yesterday.
That leaves us with the 85 million Americans who are eligible to vote, but don’t even bother to register. I’m sure there are a number of disgusted people in this group who are boycotting the system, and another chunk of young people who would rather tweet and facebook than think, but surely the vast majority are the most ignorant portion of our once great country. They would rather watch Honey Boo Boo, American Idol, and Jersey Shore than care about the future of our country.
So, Barack Obama has the support of 25.2% of the voting age population. He doesn’t have the support of 24.9% of the voting age population. And lastly, 49.9% of the voting age population doesn’t give a shit either way, as long as their TV turns on, money comes out of ATM machines, their EBT card replenishes every month, and they can buy Cheetos at the grocery store.
The next four years should be a bumpy ride. Hold on.
Or don’t worry about it.

Democrats Keep Grasp On Control of Senate

Republicans fell short Tuesday night of their goal of winning control of the Senate, after a campaign beset with weak candidate recruitment and self-inflicted gaffes in some of the GOP’s most promising races.
From Massachusetts to Montana, in 10 competitive Senate contests, Republicans in late returns were poised to pick up as many as three Senate seats from Democrats. But Democrats also picked up at least three seats from the GOP, allowing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reidof Nevada and his troops to maintain their control of the chamber.
Mr. Reid, accusing Republicans of obstructionism in President Obama’s first term, said of the results, “This is what happens when your No. 1 goal is to defeat the president and not work together to get legislation passed.”

Obama Hits Historic High with Hispanics, Winning 71 Percent

President Obama is on pace to set a record by winning 71 percent of the Hispanic vote, the largest margin of victory with Latinos in history.
Obama's performance with Hispanic voters is an uptick from the 67 percent he won in 2008, according to early exit polls. Their support might have put him over the top in a number of key swing states including Nevada, Colorado and Virginia, and could help him win Florida, which has yet to be called.
Mitt Romney veered hard to the right on immigration during the GOP primaries, and while his campaign made a push for Hispanic voters during the general election, its efforts were dwarfed by a heavy courtship by Obama and Democratic groups.
