Massachusetts SWAT teams claim they’re private corporations, immune from open records laws
As part of the American Civil Liberties Union’s recent report on police militarization, the Massachusetts chapter of the organization sent open records requests to SWAT teams across that state. It received an interesting response.
As it turns out, a number of SWAT teams in the Bay State are operated by what are called law enforcement councils, or LECs. These LECs are funded by several police agencies in a given geographic area and overseen by an executive board, which is usually made up of police chiefs from member police departments. In 2012, for example, the Tewksbury Police Department paid about $4,600 in annual membership dues to the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council, or NEMLEC. (See page 36 of linked PDF.) That LEC has about 50 member agencies. In addition to operating a regional SWAT team, the LECs also facilitate technology and information sharing and oversee other specialized units, such as crime scene investigators and computer crime specialists.

Congressional Dems' bill provides lawyers for illegal immigrant children
Congressional Democrats on Monday introduced a bill to grant taxpayer-funded lawyers to the illegal immigrant children surging across the border, with backers saying the children shouldn’t be forced to face the complex U.S. immigration system alone.
Even though the administration has said the children aren’t eligible for legal status under President Obama’s nondeportation policies, the House lawmakers said there are several other laws, including claims of asylum or other special visas available to crime victims or youngsters without families here.

New Attorney For Marine Held In Mexico Outlines Legal Strategy
The new attorney for Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi outlined his legal strategy to help free the Marine from a Mexican prison on “On the Record” Wednesday, saying his plan is more “aggressive” than his predecessors’.
Tahmooressi has been held in Mexico since accidentally crossing the border on March 31 with three guns in his truck. His new attorney, Fernando Benitez, said the team will endeavor to prove that Tahmooressi’s account of what happened that day is true.
In particular, Benitez said that his defense of Tahmooressi would focus on the 40 seconds before Tahmooressi arrived at the Mexican customs facility, having previously taken a wrong turn, and what happened in the customs facility leading up to his arrest.

Employment Numbers Revised Down
The “cooking of the books” scam perpetrated by President Obama and the Federal Government continues. When the whole of the workforce continues to shrink at the rate it is, the unemployment rate ceases to have meaning. For example, the total unemployment rate, U6 is still shown around 12%, but if the labor participation rate was similar to what it was in 2008, the U6 total unemployment rate would be between 18% and 20%. So when another 800,000 leave the workforce and the Obama Administration and their acolytes in the press herald improvement in the unemployment rate, you know it is a calculated lie.

Man Injured While Bodysurfing; Beach Patrol Able To Get Man Breathing Again
OCEAN CITY — An unidentified man suffered back and neck injuries while bodysurfing in the ocean off 82nd Street on Wednesday, and although his condition is not known, there were reasons for optimism after he was taken from the beach by ambulance.
Around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, a possible water rescue in progress was reported on the beach at 82ndStreet, raising almost immediate concern in the resort community that had experienced two rip-current related drownings in the span of about two weeks earlier in June. However, the incident turned out to be a neck and back injury related to bodysurfing and not another active water rescue, although no less serious or concerning.
According to Ocean City Beach Patrol Captain Butch Arbin, the victim was bodysurfing in the area of 82nd Street when the guard saw him lying face down in shallow water near the surf line. Arbin said bystanders began an attempt to drag the victim from the water, but were immediately warned by the Surf Rescue Technician (SRT) not to move him.

Supreme Court Justice Demands Discriminating Against Whites in College Admissions
What is most dangerous about multiculturalism is not cohabiting the same land with people of different races. Many times that is not even an issue, but what the real issue is lies in identity politics. The idea here is that when non-Whites become more represented in previously majority White societies, they seize power and elect politicians and judges that explicitly represent their interests often at the expense of the welfare of Whites.
The same is no different in the case of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor who has made it crystal clear from day one that her intention was to proceed over the Hispanization of the United States.
As the United States becomes increasingly more and more non-White, the current regime is getting more and more overt about their interests: to excel the process of reducing Whites to a minority and denying Whites merited admissions into education centers and occupations explicitly because they are White.
Sonia Sotomayor is at the center of it all with her recent calls for discriminating against Whites.

“What does ‘qualifications’ mean in an academic setting? Md. Schools Not In Compliance With Rules For Special-Ed Students
Under a new federal accountability system, Maryland is no longer in compliance with the rules governing special-education students because the state's schools exempt a high percentage of students from national testing.
The announcement this week by federal education officials means Maryland will have to pressure local school systems to include more students in the National Assessment of Educational Testing, a national test in math and reading that is given every two years. Thirty other states and the District of Columbia were also found out of compliance for a variety of reasons.
Maryland's most recent scores on the national reading test were inflated because the state's schools excluded 66 percent of fourth-graders with disabilities, a higher percentage than any other state. The national rate is 16 percent.

How States Are Failing Students with Disabilities
Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced a new grading system to evaluate whether states are meeting the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act -- and the first year's results aren't good.
The number of states out of compliance with a federal law to protect students with disabilities has more than tripled under a new U.S. Department of Education grading system that now emphasizes student performance.
Under the Department’s new evaluations, released June 24, the number of states meeting the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act dropped from 41 last year to 18 this year. With a shift from a focus on administrative compliance to enforcement based on standardized tests, the results demonstrate there’s lots of room for improvement, said Secretary of Education Arne Duncan in a conference call with reporters.
“This change in accountability represents a significant and, frankly, long-overdue raising of the bar in special education,” he said.

City of Frederick Identifies Four Blighted Properties
Stuffed animals had been left behind in a second-floor bedroom when city workers entered an empty house on West All Saints Street in Frederick last summer.
Downstairs, a refrigerator lay tipped over on its side. The place was dirty and so neglected that part of the floor was almost falling through.
It was city staff's task that day in August to secure the building. In the morning, they worked on boarding and nailing shut the windows.

GARRETT COUNTY RESIDENT LANDS IN JAIL AFTER ELABORATE SCHEME
(McHenry, MD) - Investigators from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division assigned to the McHenry Barrack contacted twelve different law enforcement officials in twelve different states to arrest a Garrett County man for an elaborate theft scheme crossing state lines.
The accused is identified as Taurus S. Centaur, 48, of Pysell Road in McHenry, Maryland. Police believe Centaur is responsible for numerous fraudulent activities in North Carolina, West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Georgia and Maryland. Troopers have identified the value of his fraudulent behavior to be in excess of $150,000 dollars. Centaur is currently being held at a detention center in Cartersville, Georgia.
Investigators from the Maryland State Police were contacted by the Morgantown Police Department in West Virginia three months ago, to assist in a forgery and theft investigation involving Centaur. Centaur was wanted by the Morgantown Police Department on felony theft charges and he was believed to be residing in Garrett County. While in Morgantown, police advised Centaur had fraudulently obtained an IPAD, jewelry and other miscellaneous items utilizing counterfeit checks.
Troopers obtained a search and seizure warrant on Centaur’s residence in Garrett County. During the execution of the search and seizure warrant, troopers uncovered the elaborate scheme by Centaur. Among other fraudulent activities, Centaur allegedly obtained the identity of an inmate currently incarcerated in Maryland, along with documents from the Division of Vital Records, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, a United States Treasury check, scanners and printers. Centaur also possessed over forty sheets of blank check paper and over twenty fraudulent checks that he reportedly created.
Evidence found during the search and seizure warrant led State Police investigators across state lines. Using the Regional Automated Property Information Database (RAPID) managed by the Maryland State Police, investigators were able to recover a variety of items in a variety of locations. The investigation uncovered additional items purchased using counterfeit cashier checks exceeding $150,000 in North Carolina, West Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Georgia and Maryland. Some of the items purchased include jewelry and motor vehicles.
Troopers contacted the Georgia authorities providing them the necessary information for the elaborate scheme. Centaur was subsequently arrested in Georgia on fraud charges.
At this time the Maryland State Police is working jointly with the United States Secret Service and local authorities on the prosecution of Centaur. Additional charges are pending.

JUST IN: Obama Backs U.S. Military Training For Syrian Rebels
The Obama administration asked Congress Thursday to authorize direct U.S. military training and equipment for Syrian opposition fighters, a move that could significantly escalate U.S. involvement in Syria’s civil war.
Money for the program, which would expand a current CIA covert training program, is included in a $60 billion request for Overseas Contingency Operations, or OCO, added to the fiscal year 2015 Defense Department budget. Details of the OCO budget had been withheld from the budget request that Congress has been considering.
The administration has said repeatedly in recent weeks that it was preparing additional assistance to vetted “moderate” opposition forces who are fighting both the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and al-Qaeda-linked militants who have now spread their area of control across the Syrian border into Iraq.

In a 65-page ruling, published on the web site of the federal courts, Judge Anna Brown handed a major victory to 13 Muslim plaintiffs, including the imam of a Portland, Oregon mosque.
Importantly, Brown said the system as it exists does not give people a meaningful way to challenge their status on the list.
"The right to travel is a part of the 'liberty' of which the citizen cannot be deprived without due process of law under the Fifth Amendment," she said.

Nearly 7 Million Americans Registered to Vote in More Than One State
Some 6.9 million Americans are registered to vote in two or more states, according to a report from an election-watch group.
“Our nation’s voter rolls are a mess,” says Catherine Engelbrecht, True The Vote president. “Sensible approaches to roll maintenance are fought tooth and nail by radical special interests who can use the duplicity in the system to their advantage.”
The latest interstate voter cross check tallied 6,951,484 overlapping voter registrations, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg.

Age Costs Miss Delaware Coveted Crown
Dover, Del. Earlier this month, the Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization, a pre-cursor to the Miss America pageant, crowned its 2014 winner: Miss Pike Creek Amanda Longacre.
Less than two weeks later, the organization has announced that Brittany Lewis—who placed as 1st runner up— is officially the new Miss Delaware. According to a press release sent out by MDSO, “following the Miss Delaware Pageant, it was determined that Amanda Longacre exceeded the age requirement in order to be eligible to compete.”
In other words, at 24 years old, Longacre has been deemed too old to compete. But, this is where it gets a bit confusing for non-pageant people because the rules state that competing girls must be at least 17 years old and a high school senior and no older than 24 years old.
Doesn’t Longacre qualify then? Yes and no.

Exposed: How the VA Red-Flags 'Disruptive' Vets
Imagine how much better off America's veterans would be if the federal government spent more time delivering actual care and less time compiling tyrannical lists. The death-inducing secret waiting lists for patients are just the tip of the iceberg.
Did you know, for example, that the VA keeps a database on "disgruntled" and "disruptive" vets that results in arbitrarily restricted care?
Disabled Air Force veteran and veterans advocate/attorney Benjamin Krause has been raising questions about the system for months and warning his peers. Under the VA policy on "patient record flags" (PRFs), federal bureaucrats can classify vets as "threats" based on assessments of their "difficult," "annoying" and "non-compliant" behavior.
The VA manual says the flags "are used to alert Veterans Health Administration medical staff and employees of patients whose behavior and characteristics may pose a threat either to their safety, the safety of other patients, or compromise the delivery of quality health care."

The Mounting Proof of an IRS Cover-Up
Matthew Vadum is an award-winning investigative reporter and the author of the book, "Subversion Inc.: How Obama’s ACORN Red Shirts Are Still Terrorizing and Ripping Off American Taxpayers."
More proof the Obama administration is covering up the political persecution it inflicted on its conservative political enemies through the Internal Revenue Service emerged yesterday as a federal official accused the White House of breaking the law by hiding emails.
Whenever the records, including emails, of federal agencies are destroyed — whether intentional or inadvertent — the law requires that the National Archives be notified. But that did not happen when the computer hard drives of a former IRS official and six of her IRS subordinates allegedly crashed in 2011, destroying records of emails now at the heart of a congressional corruption probe.

If The Clintons Are Worth 50 Million, Why Do They Get Nearly A Million A Year From The Taxpayers?
Since leaving the White House, the Clintons have earned at least 100 million dollars and currently have a net worth of up to 50 million dollars. So why in the world do the taxpayers need to give Bill Clinton $944,000 to fund his extravagant lifestyle in 2014? If ordinary Americans truly understood how much money many former politicians are being handed every year they would go bananas. According to a Congressional Research Service report that was published earlier this year, the federal government has given a total of nearly 16 million dollars to Bill Clinton since 2001. Each one of those dollars is a dollar that some U.S. taxpayer worked really hard for or that we had to borrow. Yes, we don’t want our former presidents to go broke for a whole bunch of reasons, but it is absolutely absurd that we are showering them with millions upon millions of dollars.
Yesterday, I wrote about the trouble that Hillary has caused for herself by claiming that the Clintons were “dead broke” when they left the White House.
The way things have been set up, there is no way in the world that any former president is going to be “dead broke” ever again unless the law is changed.

IRS: We Gave Lois Lerner's Hard Drive to Deposed Nigerian Prince Who Emailed Us
The Internal Revenue Service revealed it sent Lois Lerner's computer hard drive to a "deposed Nigerian prince" who had contacted the agency via email in 2011. "It is standard IRS policy to send the crashed hard drives of our former Exempt Organizations Division directors to deposed Nigerian or Haitian princes when said hard drives are requested," explained IRS Strained Credulity spokesperson Whitcomb P. Abernathy. "The prince assured us that he was in a jail in Calabar and was reaching out to us--only to us--for a noble act of charity. Clearly, we had no choice but to comply."
The 2011 email received by the IRS was from Prince Henry Dimka Onwueme, Esq. who identified himself as a "prisoner of faith" with terminal cancer and whooping cough who desperately needed Lois Lerner's crashed hard drive to successfully retrieve a fortune stolen from him by evil dictators. In the email, Onwueme describes how Lerner's hard drive would free him from jail, help establish a charitable foundation, and transfer one million dollars to every citizen in the United States. "We don't give our crashed hard drives to just anyone, you know," said Abernathy. "But how could you not trust Prince Onwueme? I mean, he said what he was doing was entirely legal. And 'entirely legal' was in capital letters, so you know it was true."
