Originally, veterans were told they needed to file a tax return in order to receive their stimulus funds. However several changes have been made to the process, with the most recent being announced Wednesday.
Veterans with income below the taxable threshold will now automatically have their $1,200 stimulus payments deposited into the same bank account as their VA benefits. Those veterans affected by the low-income threshold who have dependents must use the IRS website to provide their personal information and payment instructions before any payments will be made for those dependents.
The IRS originally set 12:00 EDT April 22, 2020, as the deadline to provide the necessary information for stimulus funds. That deadline has been removed but, given the rapidly changing situation, it's best to fill out the form as quickly as possible, even if you're unsure as to your eligibility for funds.

CAMP: Accept The Fact That You May Be Wrong
It can be difficult, especially in a time of crisis, to dispassionately assess for errors our own positions and potential biases. After accumulating a certain amount of information, and developing an opinion, we are often susceptible to intake bias, meaning that we only digest information that satisfies what we already believe to be true, which only serves to continuously bolster the mental barricade inside which our opinion is safe from scrutiny.
Because of this, when we then encounter information that could invalidate, or even simply modify, our personal understanding of an issue, we do one of two things. Rather than utilize the data to reassess and possibly modulate our opinion, we find a way to justify a rejection of this new information, or we take a more straightforward tack, and simply lock it out.
We are all guilty of intake bias to some degree in every aspect of life, which is partly why our political landscape looks the way it does, with tribal loyalties often trumping data or reason. We have now seen intake bias infect our thinking as it relates to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Every American has an opinion on how to best move forward, and that opinion is informed by a multiplicity of factors. A problem arises when our brain-barricades are struck from the outside with incongruent information.

Stacey Abrams Now Actively Campaigning For VP Slot As Her Own ‘Hype-Man’
With the results of the Democrat presidential primary now all but certain, failed gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams of Georgia has begun actively campaigning to become former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 running mate.
“I try to be straightforward because, while we hope the work speaks for itself, sometimes the work needs a hype-man,” Abrams, who was the minority leader in the Georgia House of Representative before she campaigned for governor and lost, said during an episode of “The View,” reports Mediaite.
“I think Vice President Biden is going to make a smart choice,” Abrams told “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, who asked Abrams if it would be a “slap in the face” if Biden didn’t select a woman of color as his running mate.
“I would share your concern about not picking a woman of color, because women of color, particularly black women, are the strongest part of the Democratic party — the most loyal,” she said.

Immigration Pause Exempts EB-5 Visa Program for Chinese Investors
President Trump’s executive order pausing some green card issuance specifically exempts a visa program allowing China’s elite to effectively buy American citizenship for themselves and their families.
On Wednesday, Trump signed an executive order pausing visa processing for foreign nationals seeking employment-based and extended family green cards. The order comes with a series of expansive exemptions for all visa worker programs which include H-2A visas, H-2B visas, and H-1B visas.
Most significantly, the order makes a particular exemption for the EB-5 visa program that delivers green cards mostly to China’s wealthiest investors and their families.
Under the EB-5 visa, wealthy Chinese nationals can claim to be investing $500,000 in the U.S. in order to receive green cards for themselves and their families. Within five years of residency in the U.S., these investors and their family members are able to apply for American citizenship.

New York threatens lawsuit over Trump's coronavirus immigration pause
New York Attorney General Letitia James said Wednesday that she is “ready to take legal action” to try to stop President Trump’s new immigration pause, saying he was usurping Congress’ power to write immigration policy.
Top Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee also weighed in with their opinion that Mr. Trump’s proclamation suspending issuance of new green cards to most prospective migrants tramples on their powers as lawmakers.
“Under our Constitution, Congress writes the laws, and the president must enforce them as written. This executive order turns that bedrock principle of separation of powers on its head,” said Reps. Jerrold Nadler and Zoe Lofgren.

bin Laden wanted to kill Obama so 'totally unprepared' Biden would be president
Usama bin Laden wanted to assassinate then-President Barack Obama so that the "totally unprepared" Joe Biden would take over as president and plunge the United States "into a crisis," according to documents seized from bin Laden's Pakistan compound when he was killed in May 2011.
The secretive documents, first reported in 2012 by The Washington Post, outlined a plan to take out Obama and top U.S. military commander David Petraeus as they traveled by plane.
“The reason for concentrating on them is that Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make [Vice President] Biden take over the presidency," bin Laden wrote to a top deputy. "Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis. As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour ... and killing him would alter the war's path" in Afghanistan.

Houston May Dismantle $17M Unused Makeshift Hospital
A pop-up Houston hospital may be dismantled as early as next week since it is yet to be used, Fox News reports.
The 250-bed medical shelter located at NRG Park was built as a last resort to help hospitals from being overwhelmed by coronavirus patients.
But the area hospitals haven’t hit capacity and cases seem to be declining, local news station KPRC reports.
Harris County Commissioners may vote to shut it down completely next week.
The medical shelter, which originally had a $60 million price tag, hasn’t been used.

Maxine Waters says on House floor her sister is dying of coronavirus
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) on the House floor Thursday said her sister is dying after contracting COVID-19.
Waters spoke Thursday in support of Congress' $484 billion coronavirus relief bill, which replenishes the small business loan program and provides funding for hospitals and for coronavirus testing. During the floor debate, Waters revealed her sister is suffering from the disease and dedicated the relief package to her, The Hill reports.
"I'm going to take a moment to dedicate this legislation to my dear sister, who is dying in a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, right now, infected by the coronavirus," she said.
Waters' dedication to her sister came after Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)announced her oldest brother died this week after testing positive for the coronavirus.
"It's hard to know that there was no family to hold his hand or to say 'I love you' one more time — and no funeral for those of us who loved him to hold each other close," Warren wrote. "I'll miss you dearly my brother."

Rep. Harris Issues Statement on Passage of Legislation to Refund Paycheck Protection Program
WASHINGTON, DC: On April 23, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 266, the Payroll Protection Program Increase and Health Care Enhancement Act. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) issued the following statement on the bill’s passage:
“Today, the House of Representatives passed the Payroll Protection Program Increase and Health Care Enhancement Act. This bill will add billions in much needed funding to the Paycheck Protection Program, which has successfully allowed small businesses in the First District and across the nation to stay open and keep employees on their payrolls during the Coronavirus pandemic. These funds will help local employers cover expenses and pay salaries until businesses are allowed to re-open., which I hope can be done soon on a regional basis. As a physician, I am also pleased that the bill provides additional funding for healthcare providers and expands testing capacity even further."

Gilead's coronavirus drug flops in first trial
Gilead Sciences Inc's experimental coronavirus drug failed its first randomised clinical trial, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing draft documents published accidentally by the World Health Organization.
Trading in the shares of the company was halted after they fell 6%.
The Chinese trial showed the antiviral remdesivir did not improve patients' condition or reduce the pathogen's presence in the bloodstream, the report https://on.ft.com/2VumJIA said.
Researchers studied 237 patients, giving the drug to 158 and comparing their progress with the remaining 79. The drug also showed significant side effects in some, which meant 18 patients were taken off it, according to the Financial Times.
Interest in Gilead's drug had been high as there are currently no approved treatments or preventive vaccines for COVID-19, and doctors are desperate for anything that might alter the course of the disease that attacks the lungs and can shut down other organs in extremely severe cases.

Georgia Democrat Vernon Jones Says He Will NOT Retire Over Support for President Trump
Georgia state Rep. Vernon Jones (D) announced Thursday that he will not retire his seat as he previously stated on Wednesday after harassment from his own party over his support for President Donald Trump.
Jones’ remarks were made in a video uploaded to social media. “Yesterday, I announced my intentions to resign from my office,” Jones wrote. “But shortly thereafter, the outpour of support I received was too great for me to ignore.”
“I will not allow the Democrats to bully me into submission. I will not let them win,” Jones added. “I will NOT resign.”

Woman’s Breast Implant Deflects .40-Caliber Bullet, Saving Her Life
Silicone breast implants make poor body armor as a general rule, but in one case in 2018 they were just enough to save a woman’s life.
A 30-year-old woman arrived at a trauma center in Toronto, Canada, after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. Doctors were surprised to find her “comfortable… with no distress” and soon discovered that the bullet had been slowed and deflected by one of her breast implants.
“The benefits of breast augmentation are generally accepted to be on quality of life, as until recently implants had never been considered life-saving,” the doctors reported in a case study published last week.
“Based on trajectory of bullet entry clinically and evaluation radiologically, the only source of bullet deflection of the bullet is the left breast implant. This implant overlies the heart and intrathoracic cavity and therefore likely saved the women’s life,” the report concludes.

Gilead Disputes FT Report That Coronavirus Drug Trial Flopped
A closely-watched Gilead Sciences Inc. experimental antiviral drug failed to help patients with severe COVID-19 in a clinical trial conducted in China, but the drugmaker said the study's results were inconclusive because it was terminated early.
Shares of Gilead (GILD) fell more than 4% after the data was inadvertently released and first reported by the Financial Times.
It comes days after another report detailed rapid recovery in fever and respiratory symptoms in some patients with COVID-19 — the sometimes deadly respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus — who were treated with remdesivir at the University of Chicago Medicine hospital.
Interest in Gilead's remdesivir has been high as there are currently no approved treatments or preventive vaccines for COVID-19, and doctors are desperate for anything that might alter the course of the disease that attacks the lungs and can shut down other organs in extremely severe cases.
In the Chinese trial remdesivir, given by intravenous infusion, failed to improve patients' condition or reduce the pathogen's presence in the bloodstream, according to draft documents published accidentally by the World Health Organization (WHO).
But details were thin and suggested limitations in interpreting the data that has not yet been fully reviewed.

New Study Finds 94% Of Virus Patients In NYC Hospital System Had Underlying Conditions
A new study released by the Journal of the American Medical Association this week found that 94% of people hospitalized within the Northwell Health system, the same system housing the most patients in the country throughout the pandemic, according to Fox News, displayed one or more underlying health issues.
The Northwell Health system serves approximately 11 million persons in Long Island, Westchester County, and New York City. The study examined 5,700 patients, roughly 60% of whom were male, who were admitted to 12 hospitals in New York City, Long Island, and Westchester County between March 1 and April 4.
The median age of patients was 63 years old; 56.6% of coronavirus patients suffered from hypertension; 41.7% whose body mass index (BMI) data could be found were obese and 33.8% were diabetic.

Navy Hospital Ship 'Comfort' Treated Only 179 Patients in NYC in 3 Weeks
The U.S. Navy hospital ship Comfort will be leaving New York City after treating only 179 during its three-week stay, according to Business Insider.
Governor Andrew Cuomo told President Donald Trump on Tuesday the city no longer needs the vessel for medical care.
"It was very good to have in case we had overflow, but I said we don't really need the Comfort anymore," Cuomo said, and while having the ship in New York City gave New Yorkers comfort, "we don't need it anymore, so if they need to deploy that somewhere else, they should take it."
Trump deployed the Comfort to New York City in late March to help with any non-coronavirus patients who were unable to receive treatment in city hospitals. On the first day of its arrival, however, the 1,000-bed ship was used to treat only 20 patients.

Harris Announces FEMA Contract for Hardwire to Locally Manufacture Face Shields
WASHINGTON, DC: Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) announced the award of up to $50 million in federal contracts to Hardwire LLC in Pocomoke from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to manufacture face shields in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. Specifically, Hardwire has agreed to manufacture five million face shields under the contract agreement.
Hardwire is a small business that serves as a leading designer and manufacturer of protective systems for military vehicles. When the pandemic struck the United States, Hardwire added COVID-19 face shield production to its operations. Hardwire designed a reusable face shield that is highly protective and functional, protecting the entire face while allowing for 100% freedom of movement in patient care. It is designed to be comfortable and light and can be worn every day for 15 hours without discomfort or skin irritation. Importantly, these face shields are reusable and can be fully cleaned with any solvent – as opposed to many other face shields that are only usable once.
Sourcing medical equipment from Maryland’s small business community, instead of overseas, will provide stability to the state and local economies, along with a quick turnaround time to supply the medical facilities that are facing critical shortages.
Congressman Harris made the following statement:
“I am glad that FEMA made the decision to source some of the production of face shields to use during this crisis to Hardwire LLC, here in Worcester County in the First District of Maryland. My office has been working with FEMA to make this happen, since high quality PPE (personal protection equipment) is essential in this crisis, and bringing back PPE production on-shore is important. With this contract, Hardwire is providing much-needed local jobs. Hopefully, in their future purchases, the State of Maryland will also turn to Hardwire as a supplier of face shields as well.”

American Universities Fear Loss of Chinese Students to COVID-19
With $15 billion at stake, American universities are concerned that they may see a decrease in the number of Chinese students seeking an American education in the 20-21 school year because of the coronavirus.
The South China Morning Post reports that the COVID-19 virus has forced Chinese students to face difficulties on the scheduling of entrance exams, travel restrictions and not knowing when, or if, classes will reopen.
If Chinese students withdraw from U.S. universities, the effect would be severe. According to Statista, there were 369,548 Chinese students in the U.S. in 2019 – an increase from just 98,235 in 2008. China contributes more students to the US education system than any other country.
International friction also has arisen in American campuses, where Chinese students’ Confucius Institutes, feared to be a source of espionage, have been closed down in two dozen American colleges.

Stacey Abrams is trying to box Joe Biden in to picking her as his running mate by playing the social justice card
Democratic try-hard Stacey Abrams, who in 2018 lost her race for governor of Georgia, is still everywhere because the national media thinks Joe Biden should pick her as his running mate.
In her latest nationally televised interview, she was asked on ABC's The View whether she was "concerned" that Biden might decline to select, not just a woman, but a "woman of color," as his No. 2.
"I would share your concern about not picking a woman of color," she said, "because women of color, particularly black women, are the strongest part of the Democratic Party, the most loyal."
Hmm... Who, oh, who might Abrams have in mind for the perfect "woman of color" to serve as potential vice president?

Which States are ready for phase 1 of reopening
The nation's economy could begin showing signs of life after weeks under quarantine as dozens of states have signaled that they are open for business - or at least to an extent.
President Trump announced a plan on April 16 to reopen the country in three phases, based on the severity of the outbreak in each state or region.
Several states heard Trump's words and have started to outline how and when they will reopen after more than a month of lockdown measures designed to combat the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, the governors of Georgia, Tennessee and South Carolina announced plans to bring their states' economies closer to full force.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez urges work boycott in reopened states
Appearing on VICE’s Seat at the Table with Anand Giridharadas, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) urged Americans not to return to work after states begin reopening their respective economies in response to updated information on the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
“We talk about this idea of ‘reopening society,’ only in America does [President Trump] — when the president tweets about liberation, does he mean ‘go back to work,'” Ocasio-Cortez said. “When we have this discussion about going back or reopening, I think a lot of people should just say, ‘no, we’re not going back to that. Does Google Have Hillary Clinton’s Emails? Court Authorizes Subpoena to Find Out
If you use Gmail, you know that Google holds your messages seemingly forever. Could it be doing the same with Hillary Clinton’s elusive emails?
We’ll find out.
Judicial Watch has served a subpoena, authorized by a DC federal court, on Google to produce all Clinton emails from a Google account believed to contain former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Platte River Networks’ IT specialist Paul Combetta reportedly used the Google account to transfer Clinton’s emails from a laptop to a Platte River server, then used BleachBit to remove any traces of the emails from the laptop.
Our subpoena seeks all Clinton emails from her time at State, January 21, 2009, to February 1, 2013. Google is requested to produce the emails by May 13.

Mexican Hospital Overrun by COVID-19 Closes Near Busiest U.S. Crossing in Arizona
COVID-19 is spreading like wildfire in Mexican cities along the United States border yet transit between the countries has increased dramatically, flouting State Department travel restrictions issued to keep the virus from spreading.
A few weeks ago Judicial Watch reported that southern border crossings are hotbeds of traffic that are jeopardizing the health of federal agents charged with screening the influx and potentially spreading the virus to American communities. The problem is only getting worse, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources, who say traffic is so bad that wait times in some crossings can take up to six hours. That is because thousands in border states, especially Arizona, are taking daily jaunts to Mexico to have lunch or dinner, shop, visit family and get haircuts in the middle of the pandemic. Many return to the U.S. the same day, creating a gridlock that must be screened by CBP officers.
In the Mexican city of Sonora, near the southwest Arizona town of San Luis, COVID-19 is so rampant that an overwhelmed hospital was shut down not far from the jam-packed San Luis border crossing. Mexican media reports that a nurse died at the facility, Hospital de San Luis Rio Colorado, and more than 30 doctors and nurses are sick with the virus. At least 20 doctors may also be infected. Nevertheless, the San Luis crossing remains among the busiest along the southern border, with consistently lengthy wait times. “It’s crazy busy,” said veteran CBP agent Patricia Cramer, who also serves as president of the Arizona chapter of the agency’s employee union.

Federal Court Orders Maryland to Release Complete Voter Registration Records
Judicial Watch has announced that a federal court ordered the State of Maryland to produce the voter list for Montgomery County that includes the registered voters’ date of birth. This court ruling is the latest in a series of victories for Judicial Watch in its lawsuit filed July 18, 2017, against Montgomery County and the Maryland State Boards of Elections under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA).
Judicial Watch filed suit for the Maryland voter list data after uncovering that there were more registered voters in Montgomery County than citizens over the age of 18 who could legally register to vote.
Ruling in Judicial Watch’s favor, Judge Hollander said:
"Judicial Watch need not demonstrate its need for birth date information in order to facilitate its effort to ensure that the voter rolls are properly maintained. Nevertheless, it has put forward reasonable justifications for requiring birth date information, including using birth dates to find duplicate registrations and searching for voters who remain on the rolls despite “improbable” age.
In order to avoid turning over the dates of birth for Maryland voters, the Maryland Administrator of Elections, Linda Lamone, directed her staff to remove date of birth as a field on the voter registration application. Judge Hollander ruled that Lamone could not do this, saying:
"Because full voter birth dates appear on completed voter registration applications, the Administrator may not bypass the Act by unilaterally revising the Application."

Judicial Watch’s Campaign for Clean Elections
With the presidential race heating up, election integrity is back in the news. Cheaters are gonna cheat and there’s lots of ways to steal an election—dirty voter rolls, mail-in voting, and “ballot harvesting” are three areas ripe for abuse.
Judicial Watch is the national leader in election integrity education and litigation. The very notion of voter fraud is steeped in partisan bickering, but Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton insists electoral abuse is not “a Right-Left issue” at all. The Right may be leading the fight on election fraud, but “if you’re a Leftist Democrat trying to take on an incumbent in a corrupt jurisdiction,” Fitton says, “voter fraud can keep you from gaining traction as well.”
Judicial Watch is cleaning up dirty voter rolls across the nation. States are required by the National Voter Registration Act to remove so-called “inactive voters” from registration rolls if they do not respond to an address confirmation notice and then fail to vote in the next two general federal elections. Many “inactive voters” do this because, well, they’re dead. Or they have moved away.
Why does this matter? Leaving the names of inactive voters on registration rolls creates opportunities for fraud, such as dead people voting or double voting. Critics argue that these concerns are overblown, but sometimes it only takes a few votes to swing an election.
And dirty voter roll numbers are not small.

Amazon Used Proprietary Data From Third-Party Sellers to Produce, Sell Its Own Products
Amazon used propriety data collected from third-party sellers in order to produce and sell its own products in violation of its own policies and statements to Congress, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The Journal cited more than 20 former employees of the tech company’s private-label business and documents for its report.
One example cited by the Journal included that of an Amazon private-label employee accessing a detailed sales report on a car-trunk organizer manufactured by a third-party seller called Fortem.
The employee showed the Journal the report, which included total sales, how much the vendor paid Amazon for shipping and marketing, and how much Amazon made on the sale.
Amazon later introduced its own car-trunk organizers.

Azar Waited for Weeks to Brief Trump, Tests Not Delivered
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar waited weeks to brief President Donald Trump on the coronavirus threat and oversold the progress of developing an effective test for the virus, The Wall Street Journal is reporting.
The newspaper said that as of Jan. 29, Azar had assured Trump the coronavirus outbreak was under control. And during the meeting with Trump, Azar said the government had never mounted a better inter-agency response to a crisis.
The Journal attributed the information to administration officials.
It said when Azar was asked about diagnostic testing, he told Trump it was “the fastest we’ve ever created a test.” He also said more than one million tests would be available within weeks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) started shipping tests the next week. However, it was forced to recall them when officials discovered a flaw.

Nolte: Chris Cuomo Knew He Had COVID-19, Still Risked Infecting Others by Violating Quarantine
In all of America, I know of only one person — one — who knew he was infected with the coronavirus, who knew he was contagious, and who still risked infecting others by violating his quarantine… And that person is CNN’s Chris Cuomo.
If you go to CNNLOL right now, or any other establishment media outlet, you are more likely than not to witness elite and gainfully-employed “journalists” raging against everyday Americans who are out protesting their state’s draconian lockdown orders. And I use the word “draconian” deliberately. Regardless of the media spin, I’m not seeing anyone protesting social distancing or even the idea of a lockdown. What they are protesting is what they reasonably see as overreach and favoritism, is a punitive one-size-fits-all alarmism that treats rural counties in no danger of crashing their health care systems like those urban areas that are.

Hillary Clinton Missing from Joe Biden’s ‘Democrats Unite’ Declaration
One top Democrat is conspicuously absent from Joe Biden’s graphic touting party unity for his 2020 presidential candidacy: Hillary Clinton.
Biden posted a rallying call to Facebook on Tuesday with the caption, “DEMOCRATS UNITE!”
“Together, we can transform this nation,” the post read, which featured former President Barack Obama, Sens. Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Kamala Harris, and former Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
Obama finally endorsed Biden 24 hours after Sanders dropped out of the race, effectively making Biden the presumptive nominee.
But Hillary Clinton still hasn’t backed Biden.
Over the course of the primaries, Clinton was given several opportunities to endorse a Democrat candidate, and each time, she sidestepped the attempt.
In October, Hillary and daughter Chelsea were promoting their book about “gutsy women” when the Q & A moderator, Cheryl Strayed, brought up 2020, KGW8reported.
“All that matters is that we win,” Clinton told Strayed. “I hate to be so, you know, simplistic about it. We have to nominate (cough) … the best …”
“You!” an attendee shouted, prompting a big smile and laugh from Clinton.
“Oh, my. Well, thank you,” Clinton responded.
“Maybe there does need to be a rematch,” Clinton told PBS that month. “Obviously I can beat him again.”

Why chickens were not packed and sold
The real reason that chicken company was not able to fully staff it’s production line - it pays employees 60% for not showing up so that no one will come to work sick and spread the virus. That plus the stimulus is better money than before the virus.

Berlin Farmers Market To Return Next Weekend
BERLIN – The town will welcome the return of the Berlin Farmers Market the first week of May.
As closures and cancellations related to COVID-19 continue to pile up, Berlin officials are pleased that at least one local event will go on. Farmers markets have been permitted to remain open as essential businesses during the ongoing health crisis.
“It’s now more important than ever to show your support for our local farmers,” said Ivy Wells, the town’s economic and community development director.
The Berlin Farmers Market kicks off its 2020 season May 3 and will take place every Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Pitts Street. The first 30 minutes of the market, from 8:30-9 a.m., are designated for senior shoppers only.

Ocean City leaders concerned about lifting restrictions too soon
OCEAN CITY, Md. — Like everywhere else, Ocean City is considering how and when to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Town leaders remain very concerned about lifting current restrictions too soon.
The town remains shut down through April 30, and officials have come up with an ingenious ad campaign designed to remind tourists, "You are still welcome, just not now."
The ad campaign is a friendly reminder of everything tourists love about the resort town. It fuels nostalgia and gives people something to look forward to when the stay-home order is eased or lifted.
Protective measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus have left the shore empty. Only year-round residents are allowed on the beach, and they must practice social distancing.
The boardwalk is bare, too, and the inlet is closed.

Air Canada is suspending all flights to the US from next week due to coronavirus border restrictions
Air Canada is suspending all flights between Canada and the United States after the two nations agreed to extend border restrictions by an additional 30 days due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The suspension of flights announced Tuesday will go into effect on April 27, with service scheduled to resume on May 22.
Air Canada said the move resulted from an agreement between the governments of Canada, Mexico and the US to extend a ban on non-essential travel across their shared borders by an additional 30 days.
Those restrictions, first implemented on March 21, were set to expire on Tuesday before being renewed over the weekend.

Desperate for fall enrollees, colleges are luring students with campus perks and cold cash
Put down a deposit and, at some schools, your tuition will never go up. Like to sleep in? Other colleges will give you early registration privileges so you don’t get stuck with morning classes. Still others are throwing in free food, free football tickets, even free books autographed by celebrity faculty members in residence.
All of this is driven, of course, by the existential danger that too few students will sign on for college this fall because of the pandemic, which is wrecking family finances and raising fears that campuses will not reopen anyway, forcing a continuation of online teaching.
But while such factors as more financial aid and bigger discounts might benefit applicants who know how to get them or have parents or college counselors who do, they’re likely to elude those who need them most: low-income, first-generation students. If they even had access to college counselors in their high schools, they do not now, because they’re isolated at home.

Worcester County rises to 39 coronavirus cases
Ocean Pines Association employee diagnosed, had no contact with members
(April 24, 2020) Since last week, positive cases of coronavirus in Worcester County have risen by 14 for a total of 39 as of Thursday. One of those cases is an employee of the Ocean Pines Association. The association said the person is recovering at home and had no contact with association members.
Twenty-two cases are located in the 21811 zip code for Berlin and Ocean Pines.
Last week, the Maryland Department of Health began releasing zip code data, but only if the zip code has at least eight cases. The Worcester County Health Department said that since cases are in the double digits, it will no longer be releasing the age and sex of cases.
Seventeen individuals have been released from public monitoring.

A Viewer Writes: Hot Spots
Hello Joe, every night we watch on TV where the Hot Spots are around the country for the Corona-virus. These are the areas where you shouldn't even go because of the danger. Locally, in Sussex County Delaware the biggest Hot Spot is around Georgetown. So until things get better it's not advisable to go to that area. At least in Delaware the citizens know where not to go. Not so in Wicomico County. Just try and get some official to let the citizens know where the Hot Spots are. I've heard even the County Council can't get straight information from the Health Department. Why is this? What's the big secret? If I knew where they were I would definitely let family and friends know. That would be best for everyone's sake. So can anyone tell us what's going on with Hot Spots in Wicomico County and why is it a secret?
'Experts' know best, they say homeschooling needs regulation, reform
A summit planned for this June at Harvard aims to discuss what it calls the "problems, politics, and prospects for reform" in homeschooling.
Supporters of homeschooling have concerns about the summit planned for June 18-19 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. That may be due to the fact that these comments from the organizer, Professor James Dwyer have gone viral:
"The state needs to be the ultimate guarantor of a child's well-being. There's just no alternative to that. The reason parent-child relationships exist is because the state confers legal parenthood on people through its paternity and maternity laws. It's the state that is empowering parents to do anything with children – to take them home, to have custody, and to make any kind of decisions about that." (Law professor James Dwyer, College of William & Mary)
The following excerpt from the summit website summarizes the objective of the gathering:
"The focus will be on problems of educational deprivation and child maltreatment that too often occur under the guise of homeschooling, in a legal environment of minimal or no oversight. Experts will lead conversations about the available empirical evidence, the current regulatory environment, proposals for legal reform, and strategies for effecting such reform."

Vice President Gore served under President Bill Clinton and ran against President Bush in the 2000 general election, leading to the landmark Supreme Court case Bush v. Gore.
A high-profile climate activist, Vice President Gore founded The Climate Reality Project and works exclusively on environmental issues. During his virtual endorsement of a fellow former vice president, Gore suggested that if elected, Biden should ban gasoline-powered vehicles. This radical proposal is a provision present in the Green New Deal. Despite his continued promise to hold moderate policy stances, Biden agreed with Gore:
