MONDAY It's fun to cook for Steve. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said beat 12 eggs separately. The neighbors were nice enough to loan me the extra bowls.
TUESDAY He wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said serve without dressing. So I didn't dress. What a surprise when he brought a friend home for supper
WEDNESDAY A good day for rice. The recipe said wash thoroughly before steaming the rice. It seemed kind of silly but I took a bath anyway. I can't say it improved the rice any.
THURSDAY Today he asked for salad again I tried a new recipe. It said prepare ingredients; lay on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving. Steve asked me why I was rolling around in the garden...I showed him the recipe instructions.

TRUMP TO GOP: ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WON'T VOTE FOR YOU 'NO MATTER HOW NICE YOU ARE'
Speaking at CPAC on Thursday, Donald Trump said that illegal immigrants, whom Democrats and House GOP leaders want to legalize, will simply not vote for Republicans.
He blasted those who want open borders, saying, "We're either a country or we're not. We either have borders or we don't."
"You have a border. You have a country," Trump said before emphatically declaring that we're just "a nothing" without borders.

Teachers Become Targets in Active Shooter Drills
FARMINGTON, Mo. (KMOX) – Some teachers in Farmington balked this week after being told that a school safety drill would require them to wear goggles and be shot at with air soft pellet guns.
A school safety drill in St. Francois County hits a snag after some teachers object to getting shot at with air soft pellet guns.
Four teachers at Farmington High school contacted the Prosecuting Attorney’s office on Tuesday after they were handed goggles during the “active shooter” exercise.
Associate Superintendent Sarah Long says school personnel were not forced to take part in that aspect of the drill.

Liberal Idiot
In a bid to stem taxpayer losses for bad loans guaranteed by federal housing agencies Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac,
Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) proposed that borrowers be required to make a 5% down payment in order to qualify for a loan.
His proposal was rejected 57-42 on a straight party-line vote because, as Senator Chris Dodd (D-Conn) explained, "Passage of such a requirement would restrict home ownership to only those who can afford it."

HOLDER SUES FOR MUSLIM BEARDS…
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the School District of Philadelphia, claiming a rule regulating the length of employees’ beards constitutes religious discrimination.
According to the suit filed Wednesday, the district in October 2010 instituted a new grooming policy preventing school police officers and security guards from having beards longer than a quarter of an inch.
School police officer Siddiq Abu-Bakr maintained an untrimmed beard for the 27 years he worked at the district, the suit states. Abu-Bakr is a member of the Islamic faith, which he says requires that he not cut his beard.
When Abu-Bakr notified his supervisor his religious beliefs precluded him from complying with the new policy, he was allegedly issued a written reprimand cautioning that continued violation of the rule would result in “further disciplinary action.”

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY PRAISES UNANIMOUS STATE SENATE VOTE TO EXPAND PRE-K OPTIONS FOR MARYLAND CHILDREN
ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 6, 2014) – Governor O'Malley today released the following statement after the Maryland Senate voted in favor of the O'Malley-Brown Administration's proposal to expand pre-kindergarten in Maryland:
“Thanks to the leadership of the general assembly, we made the better choice to invest in education over the last seven years. Those choices have led to better results, helping Maryland schools achieve the number-one-in-the-nation ranking five years in a row.”
“Last school year, 82 percent of Maryland children entering Kindergarten were fully ready for school, an increase of 36.7 percent since 2005-2006. We’ve seen the difference a quality early education can make in our children’s achievement, that’s why today’s vote is so important. By voting to expand pre-k to more Maryland children, we’re building a stronger foundation that will help our state compete not just nationally, but globally.”

Florida Man Hangs KKK Flag Outside Trailer Home
BOCA RATON, Fla. - A Palm Beach County man is flying a Ku Klux Klan flag outside his trailer home in Boca Raton, and is prominently displaying a noose and "Members Wanted" sign in his front yard, CBS Miami reports.
The man, who did not give his name, defended his right to fly the flag at his home in western Boca Raton.
"I'm not sending any message," the man told a reporter. "The same thing when the Puerto Rican flies his flag. He's proud of his heritage. I'm proud of mine."

Ron Paul: "Hagel's 'Defense Cuts' Are Smoke & Mirrors"
Last week Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel proposed an additional 40,000 reduction in active duty US Army personnel, down to 450,000 soldiers. As US troops are being withdrawn from the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it might make sense to reduce not only the active duty military but the entire military budget. However, from the interventionists’ reaction to Hagel’s announcement you might think President Obama announced he was shutting down the Pentagon!
Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, claimed that this slight reduction in personnel would hurt our military readiness. He blamed the exploding spending on welfare entitlements for the proposed military cuts, stating, "It's all being sacrificed ... on the altar of entitlements. This president cannot take on mandatory spending, so all we've done in the Congress -- and this president -- is basically cut discretionary spending."

Insurers' Obamacare Losses May Cost U.S. $5.5 Billion In 2015
Health insurers such as WellPoint Inc. and Humana Inc. stand to gain $5.5 billion from the government next year to cover losses from Obamacare in a program the law’s opponents label a bailout.
The money, outlined in President Barack Obama’s proposed budget for the fiscal year that begins in October, is designated to help insurers who find the cost of the law higher than expected, based on the percentage of older, sicker people who sign up compared with younger enrollees.
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, insurers who record a profit of 3 percent or more on their Obamacare business would put some of their gains into a government-controlled fund. Companies whose claims cost at least 3 percent more than their premium revenue can access the pool. While it isn’t clear in Obama’s budget how much he expects to collect from insurers who profit on business, the $5.5 billion may signal that more insurers will be withdrawing money from the fund than are adding to it.
“If you want to insure the uninsured, and you want to set up a competitive marketplace and drive health system improvement, you’re not going to do that without off-loading some of the risk for insurance providers,” Dan Mendelson, the president of Avalere Health, a Washington consulting firm, said in a telephone interview.

Assembly Leaders Back Cutting Estate Taxes, But Opponents Knock Break For Wealthy
General Assembly leaders say they are fearful wealthy Maryland residents are moving out of state because of Maryland’s high estate tax and are promoting legislation that would cut the “death tax”
Maryland imposes a tax when property is transferred from the deceased to a living relative, if that property is valued at more than $1 million — the tax caps at 16% of the entire estate.
Senate President Mike Miller is one of the lawmakers spearheading legislation — along with House Speaker Michael Busch — that would reduce the death tax. Miller said he wants to recouple it to the federal limits, matching the federal exclusion level of $5.3 million.
Miller testified on his bill, SB 602, to the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Wednesday. Maryland citizens ages 55 and older, one of the wealthiest sectors of the state, he said, are “fleeing” to Virginia, Delaware, Florida to avoid being taxed.

Has Jimmy Fallon Gone Mad With Power Since Taking Over ‘The Tonight Show’?
I just wanted Jimmy Fallon to sound villainous! I don’t actually think this is on him, at least not entirely. First of all, it’s somewhat common for the big late night shows to “block” their guests from appearing on competing shows. Like, in the old days, if you were an average top-tier celebrity, you would only do Leno or Letterman, not both. Letterman wouldn’t want you if you had done Leno, and vice versa. But TMZ reports that with the successful transition to Jimmy Fallon hosting The Tonight Show, the people at NBC have gone mad with power:
NBC is coming down like a hammer on celebs who want to get on Jimmy Fallon’s show … if they dare do a show on CBS or ABC … they can forget about “The Tonight Show.”
Sources connected to CBS, NBC and ABC tell TMZ … the Peacock network believes Jimmy Fallon’s ratings success gives them extreme bargaining power. They put the word out to celebs, agents and publicists … if they want to be on Fallon they can’t appear on ANY other network … and not just shows that go head-to-head with Jimmy, but morning shows as well.
We’re told NBC is saying the stars who go on Fallon are also allowed to appear on “Today,” “Dateline” and any similar shows they air, but that’s it.
A GMA source tells TMZ … they’ve already gotten fallout from people they were trying to book.
Fallon is dominating late night …. crushing Jimmy Kimmel by bringing in more than twice the number of viewers.

Who Shut Down The Government?
Even when it comes to something as basic, and apparently as simple and straightforward, as the question of who shut down the federal government, there are diametrically opposite answers, depending on whether you talk to Democrats or to Republicans.
There is really nothing complicated about the facts. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted all the money required to keep all government activities going -- except for ObamaCare.
This is not a matter of opinion. You can check the Congressional Record.
As for the House of Representatives' right to grant or withhold money, that is not a matter of opinion either. You can check the Constitution of the United States . All spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives, which means that Congressmen there have a right to decide whether or not they want to spend money on a particular government activity.
Whether ObamaCare is good, bad or indifferent is a matter of opinion. But it is a matter of fact that members of the House of Representatives have a right to make spending decisions based on their opinion.

Aiding And Abetting Bad Behavior
The Chesapeake Bay is not only an essential natural resource for Maryland, but also for the United States. It is a recognized national treasure. Here in our great State, we’ve taken on this moral imperative by making a commitment to restore the Bay and ensure that it’s an economically and ecologically viable resource for our children and our grandchildren. We have made these commitments in partnership with the other jurisdictions of the Bay’s watershed.
Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia and the federal government are, together, committed to restoring and protecting our nation’s largest estuary.
Despite the pressures that come with population growth and the challenges of economic crises, we have made great progress in conserving thousands of acres of land, reducing levels of harmful nutrient pollution, providing farmers with millions of dollars to implement water quality protection practices. But we still have more work to do.
Now, our years of hard work and partnership efforts are being challenged and threatened by other states objecting to what we have done and plan to do to preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay.

Freedom Is Not Free
There may be something to the claim that all people want to be free. But it is a demonstrable fact that freedom has been under attack, usually successfully, for thousands of years.
The Federal Communications Commission’s recent plan to have a “study” of how editorial decisions are made in the media, placing FCC bureaucrats in editorial offices across the country, was one of the boldest assaults on freedom of the press. Fortunately, there was enough backlash to force the FCC to back off.
With all the sweeping powers available to government, displeasing FCC bureaucrats in editorial offices could have brought on armies of “safety” inspectors from OSHA, audits from the Internal Revenue Service and many other harassments from many other government agencies.
Such tactics have become especially common in this administration, which has the morals of thugs and the agenda of totalitarians. They may not be consciously aiming at creating a totalitarian state, but shameless use of government power to crush those who get in their way can produce totalitarian end results.
The prosecution of Dinesh D’Souza for contributing $20,000 to a political candidate, supposedly in violation of the many campaign finance laws, is a classic case of selective prosecution.

A New SAT Aims to Realign With Schoolwork
Saying its college admission exams do not focus enough on the important academic skills, the College Board announced on Wednesday a fundamental rethinking of the SAT, ending the longstanding penalty for guessing wrong, cutting obscure vocabulary words and making the essay optional.
The president of the College Board, David Coleman, criticized his own test, the SAT, and its main rival, the ACT, saying that both had “become disconnected from the work of our high schools.”
In addition, Mr. Coleman announced programs to help low-income students, who will now be given fee waivers allowing them to apply to four colleges at no charge. And even before the new exam is introduced, in the spring of 2016, the College Board, in partnership with Khan Academy, will offer free online practice problems and instructional videos showing how to solve them.

Obama’s Pseudo-Scientism
Too hot? Too cold? Regardless, it must be global warming.
President Obama came to California. He saw a drought. He announced the cause to be global warming and left. How accurate was the president’s diagnosis of harmful, man-made climate change in stopping rain and snow? First, a bit of a reminder about what the president has called “settled science.”
Until 1982 “settled science” decreed that stomach ulcers were a result of bad diet, too much gastric acid, or undue stress. Then Australian scientists Barry Marshall and Robin Warren shocked the medical community with an unlikely thesis: The real culprit for peptic ulcers more often was infection by the Gram-negative bacterium H. pylori, a common but sometimes dangerous agent in the gut that could be treated with antibiotics. The practice of gastroenterology was turned upside down.
Settled science insisted that annual mammograms were necessary to reduce the morbidity from breast cancer, on the logical hypothesis that only early detection could allow successful treatment of a disease whose contours were so poorly understood. Now, a new comprehensive Canadian study finds that there is no statistical evidence that a breast scan every year is any more efficacious in preventing morbidity than more sporadic testing.
In other words, nothing scientific is ever quite settled. Scientists debate the proper protocols through still more study and investigation in the arena of empirical give-and-take.

Fed-Up Orthodontist Challenges Obama
'We will stop you, Mr. President – because we are Americans'
A Florida orthodontist has taken his case against Barack Obama’s “I’ve got a pen” plan of rule by executive order to a federal appeals court, challenging the president’s multiple and arbitrary changes to the deadlines in the Obamacare law.
“The Obama administration is desperate to keep us out of court, and I am confident that the 11th Circuit will rule that the lawsuit may continue,” said Larry Kawa of Kawa Orthodontics.
“We will stop you, Mr. President – because we are Americans. For those of you who want your country back, it’s on the way – and for the IRS and this corrupt administration so are we, because Congress makes the laws,” he said.
He is represented by the Washington, D.C., watchdog Judicial Watch.

You Gotta Love Texas!
The City of Dallas, Texas passed an ordinance
stating that if a driver is pulled over by law enforcement
and is not able to provide proof of Insurance , the car is towed .
To retrieve the car after being impounded, they must show
proof of insurance to have the car released. This has made
it easy for the City of Dallas to remove uninsured cars.
Shortly after the "No Insurance" ordinance was passed,
the Dallas impound lots began to fill up and were full
after only nine days.
Over 80% of the impounded cars were driven by illegals .
Now, not only must they provide proof of insurance to
have their car released, they have to pay for the cost of the tow ,
a *$350 fine , and *$20 for every day their car is kept
in the lot.
Guess what?
Accident rates have gone down *47% and Dallas' solution
gets uninsured drivers off the road *WITHOUT* making
them show proof of nationality.
I Wonder how the
Holder's US Justice Department
will get around this one .

Obama: Democrats Get 'Sleepy' In Midterm Years
President Obama on Tuesday warned Democratic donors that the party could not repeat the mistakes of the 2010 midterms, and must focus on turning out voters in November.
"Democrats are really good at presidential elections these days, if I do say so myself,” said Obama at a fundraiser for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in McLean, Va. “But there's something about midterms."
"We get a little sleepy,” he continued. “We don't turn out the vote. That has to change."

GOVERNMENT CHEMIST TAMPERED WITH 40,000 CASES, LOCKING COUNTLESS INNOCENT AMERICANS IN PRISON
MASSACHUSETTS — In a maddening scandal that is rocking the state of Massachusetts, a government crime lab chemist has been caught intentionally forging signatures and tampering with evidence in as many as 40,000 cases, destroying the lives of countless innocent Americans.
Annie Dookhan worked as a chemist for the State of Massachusetts, and it turns out she had close relations with prosecutors.
These prosecutors were able to successfully convict innocent Americans because Dookhan would chemically taint the “evidence,” resulting in career boosts for the prosecutors while innocent men and women were torn from their families and locked in cells.
Prosecutors praised Dookhan’s work and depended on her to get the convictions they wanted.
Hundreds of “convicts” and defendents have already been released, and there are potentially thousands more waiting to be set free.

GOVERNOR O’MALLEY JOINS BUSINESS OWNERS TO TOUT BENEFITS OF RAISING MARYLAND’S MINIMUM WAGE
ANNAPOLIS, MD (March 6, 2014) – Governor O’Malley today toured the Linemark printing plant in Upper Marlboro, Md. and joined a group of business owners for a roundtable discussion to show their support for increasing Maryland’s minimum wage.
Governor O’Malley, as a part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and grow Maryland’s middle class, has proposed raising the minimum wage as one of his top priorities for the 2014 legislative session. On Monday, his proposal continued to advance through the General Assembly with a favorable vote from the Economic Matters Committee to increase the minimum wage to $10.10. A vote on the bill is expected later this week on the House floor.
“Nobody who works full time should have to raise their family in poverty,” Governor O'Malley said. “These business leaders understand what Henry Ford understood 100 years ago: paying workers more is good for business. Raising the minimum wage reduces employee turnover, increases productivity, and generates more economic activity. I'm proud to stand here with these employers today and call on the General Assembly to give Maryland a raise.”

WWII Vet Becomes Viral Video Star After San Jose Racers' Spontaneous Tribute
SAN JOSE -- Everyone on the block knows Joe Bell. Whether he's tinkering with his old fishing boat in the driveway or telling World War II stories from the sidewalk, neighbors always stop to chat.
Once in a while he dons his uniform, which still fits his thin, 95-year-old frame, and wears it to the senior center for lunch on Veterans Day or to meet with other vets.
When he put it on again Sunday morning, something spectacular happened. Joe stepped outside his Cape Cod-style house in San Jose's Rose Garden neighborhood to cheer on runners in a race that benefits the foundation for fallen Army Ranger Pat Tillman. One by one, the runners left the course to shake an old soldier's hand.
I live two doors down from Joe and captured the moment with my iPhone. Within 48 hours, the 45-second video went viral and was picked up by the Today Show, Good Morning America, Fox, Runners World, and a host of other media outlets.

Baltimore Cops Illegally Delete Cellphone Images: City To Settle For $250,000, Disputes Allegations
The city of Baltimore is set to approve a settlement for $250,000 next week over a 2010 incident where Baltimore cops confiscated Christopher Sharp’s cellphone and deleted images from his phone, explaining to him that it was illegal to videotape people in the state of Maryland. It’s not, which is why the city government is ready to settle, with taxpayers’ money, while not accepting legal responsibility. CBS in Baltimore reports the details of the incident: Christopher Sharp was recording an arrest at the Preakness almost four years ago when officers got angry.
“Do me a favor and turn that off. It’s illegal to videotape a person’s voice or anything else. It’s against the law in the state of Maryland,” an officer told Sharp.
It’s not, and Sharp claims officers illegally confiscated his phone and deleted other images from it, leading him to file suit with the help of the ACLU.

GOVERNOR O'MALLEY ANNOUNCES MARYLAND HITS RECORD FOR 2013 EXPORTS
Presents International Award to Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System President Ronald Peterson
ANNAPOLIS, MD Governor Martin O’Malley will join more than 300 Maryland business leaders at the 18th Annual World Trade Center Institute’s International Business Leadership Awards and announce that Maryland’s trade exports climbed to a record $11.8 billion in 2013. Trade to countries that Maryland has strategically targeted, like United Arab Emirates and Brazil, grew by 39 percent and 22 percent, respectively. Key merchandise export categories include transportation equipment; chemicals; computer and electronic products; machinery manufactures; and waste and scrap. Maryland’s strong performance in 2013 helped the U. S. reach an all-time record for exports of U.S. goods and services, reaching $2.3 trillion in 2013 and supporting nearly 10 million American jobs.
“The continued increase in Maryland exports, along with the Port of Baltimore hitting record cargo levels and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport growing its international passenger traffic, demonstrates that Maryland remains a fierce global competitor,” said Governor O’Malley. “Ultimately, our strength and global competitiveness depends on our willingness to make the investments that a modern economy requires to create jobs.”
“Exporting is paying off for many Maryland businesses that continue to ‘make locally and sell globally,’ said Bill Burwell, Director of the U.S. Commercial Service in Baltimore. “Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers reside outside of the United States. If your business is not exporting, it’s time to get on board—because not selling globally is just like leaving money on the table. We can help you navigate the avenues of exporting.”

Ex-Greenpeacer Patrick Moore Questions Climate Change, Challenges Liberals
As a former Greenpeace insider, Patrick Moore wasn’t surprised by the heated reaction from the left on his explosive testimony about climate change last week before a Senate committee.
Mr. Moore drew headlines for disputing the environmental movement’s doomsday scenario, depicting climate change over the past century as “minor warming” and arguing that “there is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide are the dominant cause.”
As a result, Mr. Moore came under fire for “climate denial” from the liberal group Media Matters for America. He has been persona non grata at Greenpeace for years.

What Student Loans Are Really Used For: The Depressing Case Studies
Some of our readers may have missed our post from September 2012 in which we showed that far from being used for their generally accepted purpose, student loans - now well over $1 trillion and more than the total credit card debt outstanding - in numerous instances are instead abused to fund virtually everything else besides paying for tuition. Recall: "Robert Thomas Price Jr. borrowed about $105,000 for his tuition at Harrisburg Area Community College from 2005 and 2007, federal authorities say. It doesn’t cost anywhere near that much to study at HACC, though. So Price, 45, of Newport, is facing federal student loan fraud and mail fraud charges. A U.S. Middle District Court indictment alleges that Price spent much of the loan money on crack cocaine, cars, motorcycles, jewelry, tattoos and video games."
At the time many derided this case study as an isolated example of fund abuse by an isolated individual. Nearly two years later, a study by the WSJ confirms what most have known: far from an isolated incident, "student" loans have become a primary source of funding for an every greater portion of the US population, and that when looking at total credit creation in the US economy, non-revolving student debt has as much if not more relevance than mere revolving credit, when it comes to determining how pays for what.

CARSON: Uprooting Obamacare With Better Ideas
Government-run health care can’t compete with freedom of choice
As a child, I was attracted to anything that dealt with medicine. Many stories featured Johns Hopkins Hospital, and I was eventually privileged to spend 36 years at Johns Hopkins working with brilliant and caring colleagues who dedicated their lives to the art and science of healing.
After a storybook career that included thousands of operations and many sleepless nights, I looked forward to retirement, thinking that it would be quite relaxing.
However, life throws many curveballs, and sometimes the ordering of our steps is not of our own choosing. I now find myself deeply immersed in trying to heal the health care environment, because if you cure the organism and put it back into a sick environment, you really have not accomplished very much.

House Gives First Ok To Minimum Wage Increase; Rejects Indexing
The Maryland House of Delegates has given preliminary approval to increase the minimum wage in Maryland from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour by 2017.
The approval came after a floor debate this morning, and it sets up a final debate and vote on the bill on Friday.
Many of the amendments in the two hours of debate dealt with expanding the exemptions from the higher minimum wage. They were all defeated.
Another amendment that was defeated would have restored Governor O’Malley’s plan to link the future minimum wage hikes to the inflation rate.

Learn About Delmarva’s Nutria Management: March, 14 2014 At Pemberton Historical Park
Salisbury, MD – The Chesapeake Bay throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore has been invaded by nutria, a semi-aquatic rodent indigenous to South America. For the past twelve years, intensive control efforts have been undertaken by eradication specialists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
USDA efforts have been successful, and the last known nutria population is believed to inhabit the Wicomico River between Salisbury and Ellis Bay. USDA’s Wildlife Services is cooperating with private landowners in the area and other State and Federal agencies to eliminate this destructive mammal and save our marshes.
Staff will be on hand to discuss the Chesapeake Bay Nutria Eradication Project and answer questions about nutria on Friday, March 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pemberton Historical Park in Salisbury, Md. Attendees can learn how South American nutria came to Delmarva and how they have impacted the ecosystem. The efforts for systematic removal by a dedicated team of wildlife specialists supported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources and other private agency partners will also be shared.

Global Warming Update
The Washington Post
The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.
Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post; 92+ years ago. What would we do without Al Gore? He has made a fortune on BS.

Random Thoughts By Ellen Sauerbrey
A new Washington Post/ABC News poll finds that Democrats are in a deep trouble. Here's the key finding: "In the 34 states with Senate races, 50 percent of voters say they favor Republicans and 42 percent favor Democrats." An eight-point GOP advantage in an ABC News/Post poll is huge! Republicans must win six seats to retake the Senate majority.
So, Obama is about to impose another delay in Obamacare in a brazen effort to shield Democrats from the consequences of policy cancellations shortly before the election. Remember their reaction when Republicans proposed a delay? The chickens are coming home to roost before an election. Can't have that!!!
A Maryland House of Delegates Committee today passed the O'Malley/Brown minimum wage hike raising it from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour - a 38% increase. Though such an increase sounds compassionate, the effect will be to price young unskilled job seekers out of the market. Interestingly, the bill exempts Six Flags America, which is located in Upper Marlboro in P.G. County. What hypocracy!

Mental Illness Widespread Among US Soldiers, Researchers Find
Three new studies suggest that a sizable percentage of American soldiers suffer from some type of mental health issue, at rates higher than those seen in the general population.
"Some of the differences in disorder rates are truly remarkable," Ronald Kessler, a professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School and senior author of one of the studies, said in a Harvard news release. "The rate of major depression is five times as high among soldiers as civilians, intermittent explosive disorder six times as high, and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD] nearly 15 times as high."
Two of the three studies relied on data from the STARRS survey, a major research effort involving almost 5,500 soldiers. The survey is a collaborative effort between the U.S. Army and the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

Sex Pays For College: A Duke Student’s Sad Choice
Poor Joe Francis. Last week, the “Girls Gone Wild” founder was in US Bankruptcy Court settling with a woman whose breasts were filmed without her consent on one of his videos. She will get at least $100,000 and perhaps as much as $5.3 million more.
Maybe Francis was ahead of his time. If he’d waited a few years longer to start his video enterprise, he could’ve gotten top college freshmen to do a lot more than bare their breasts: A Duke University student using the pseudonym “Lauren” made news last week when it was learned she was participating in “rough-sex” porn to pay her $60,000 tuition, room and board.
Lauren makes the topless co-eds on the beaches of Cancun seem like something out of a Jane Austen novel. But she does much more than that. She offers intellectual cover for young women prostituting themselves.
It begins with an economic comparison between doing porn and working in a service job at the mall. As Lauren told the website Real Clear Education, “Any job I would’ve gotten as a minimum wage worker would’ve been exploitative, degrading to me, and not provided the money I needed to make, which was $4,000 a month. So why would I work 80 hours a week, struggle with school, barely get any sleep and be treated like a second-class citizen, when I can do porn for 14 hours a day, make thousands, set my own hours, and have a ton of fun doing it?”
Makes sense, right? Why sell hamburgers when you can just sell your body? What have women throughout history been thinking by trying to avoid prostitution? Clearly the notion that selling sex is something one does as a last resort was a ploy of the patriarchy to make sure that women’s sexuality was controlled by men (and that there were an adequate number of cashiers at McDonald’s).
