Woman Charged In Double Stabbing
Location: 2400 block Reynolds Rd, Milford DE
Date of Occurrence: Friday, April 16, 2010 at approximately 3 p.m.
Suspect: Amanda Ross, 21, Dover, DE
Resume:
Delaware State Police have arrested a Dover woman after she allegedly stabbed two victims.
This incident occurred on Friday when Amanda Ross was visiting a 34 year-old female resident at her home located in the 2400 block of Reynolds Road. Also in the home at the time was a 37 year-old boyfriend of the resident. Troopers believe Ross was visiting the residence to purchase drugs and prescription pills.
While at the residence, Ross claimed that the 37 year-old man cornered her in the kitchen and repeatedly solicited her for sex.
During the encounter Ross allegedly obtained a butcher knife from the counter and stabbed the man twice in the neck/back after he began touching her. A struggle ensued and the man was stabbed once in each arm.
Ross told troopers she tried to take the 37 year-old to the hospital, but he refused.
The man left the residence on foot and went to a neighbor's residence located on Log Cabin Rd. Ross followed the 37 year-old on foot. The victim made contact with a 48 year-old resident of a home on Log Cabin Road. The resident allowed the 37 year-old victim into the home and stood outside, attempting to prevent Ross from entering the home. A scuffle ensued resulting in a laceration to the 48 year-old male’s left arm. After troopers were called, Ross ran back to the original residence, obtained some belongings, and fled the scene.
She was taken into custody at Lakeland MHP in Dover later in the day.
Ross had changed clothing prior to her arrest; however troopers located the items nearby.
Both victims in the stabbing were treated and released from an area hospital.
Ross was charged with Assault 1st, Assault 2nd, 2 counts of Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of Felony, and Attempted Burglary 2nd. She was arraigned received a $35,000 secured bond and was committed to the Woman’s Correctional Institute in New Castle.

Hostess Turns In Almost $1,000.00
Last Thursday some friends of mine went into The Greene Turtle in Salisbury to enjoy a meal. When they went to pay for it, (after just coming from the Bank) they pulled out their envelope with almost $1,000.00 in it and paid their bill.
Days later they went to get the envelope and realized it was gone. After thinking about it they realized the last time they had their cash they had been in the Greene Turtle and the Wife said, let me call them and see if they someone turned it in. The Husband immediately said, are you out of your mind, no one is going to turn that kind of cash in nowadays.
Ignoring that statement she called the Greene Turtle in Salisbury and low and behold the manager said that their Hostess Brye Marth found the envelope and immediately turned it into management and it's sitting in their safe.
My hat is tipped to The Greene Turtle, especially Brye Marth. Way To Go! My friends are on their way in right now to collect their cash.
UPDATE: In case any of you are interested, Brye Marth is working today as the Hostess. She's a College Student at SU and comes from Montgomery County. The cash amount returned was, $951.35.

City Council Public Hearing And Vote Dates For Forbes Hall
Folks,
As I cautioned a few Legion Riders, before attacking members of City Council, you should look at the other side of the issue which is ZONING.
You all know that I am very vocal about going by Legion and Riders Constitution and By-Laws (much of which I wrote or amended IAW National).
Supporting VETS is one thing. BUT!! Law is law. Look into the zoning before believing all that Black has written. The city attorney has cautioned council on rezoning this piece of property.
Neither member of council is against a home for VETS. However, zoning laws (R5) are specific.
Speaking of council members supporting VETS!! Both Cohen and Campbell are the only members that have been at the airport to welcome home our Vets.
I think Black has stepped over the line!! "DIRTY TRICKS"????
Hebrew is not stupid. He knew the zoning before starting this project. Why did he not take this to an area properly zoned?? No one spends the kind of money he spent on 505 without knowing the zoning and permits required. Could it be that he remodeled this property and ran into zoning then he decided to make this a Vets Home to try to get around zoning?? Some years ago there was a zoning issue with the piece of property he owns at the end of Legion road on the right!!
So, that is my opinion on the issue. I think there is more to this.
Look before you leap!!

Subject: City Council Public Hearing and Vote Dates for Forbes Hall
Everyone,
WE NEED ALL HANDS ON DECK!
We have a fight on our hands at the City Council...Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen have let it known that they intend to vote no for Forbes Hall the veterans residence at 505 Collins Street at this week’s City Council Workshop. Our lawyer Matt Mills of Adkins, Potts & Smethurst LLC tells me that they are going to fight us with a vengeance....Campbell and Cohen have already started with the dirty tricks by having Hebreux jump through hoops on snap inspections at his properties...including 505 Collins our veteran home. They have tried to have one of the council members ‘Shannie Shields disqualified from the vote that supports our project!!!..It has been rumored that they will try to have a group there to stand against us. Debbie wants to try to shoot us down on technical issues so that this does not make it for the actual City Council Vote in May. It is hard to believe that we have council members that are so removed from the needs of our veteran community.
The vote counts stands at 3 for and 2 against...our third vote is however in jeopardy...Gary Comegys who supported us at the Planning and Zoning meeting has been diagnosed with bone cancer...I am not sure that this is public knowledge. He says he is going to make it for the vote; he seems determined... but God only knows where or if he will be able to make it a month from now. Maybe he can vote in abstention...not sure on this either. Please say a prayer for Gary...he was behind us at the Planning and Zoning meeting and has always been a strong supporter of our veteran community.
We need all the veterans and supporters we can get and we need to be heard at the following dates:
May 10th is the Public Hearing...at this hearing you will be able to voice your support for this needed project...
May 24th is the actual Vote...we need to be there looking these women in the eyes...They need to know that there will be consequences for their actions.
Send this request out to everyone you know that wants to support our veterans...we cannot let a couple of closed minded council members shut us down.
Show your colors!!!

Justice Clarence Thomas: We're 'Evading' Eligibility
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas told a House subcommittee that when it comes to determining whether a person born outside the 50 states can serve as U.S. president, the high court is "evading" the issue.
The comments came as part of Thomas' testimony before a House appropriations panel discussing an increase in the Supreme Court's budget earlier this week.
Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Jose Serrano, D-N.Y., actually raised the question first amid a discussion on racial diversity in the judiciary.
"I'm still waiting for the [court decision] on whether or not a Puerto Rican can run for president of the United States," said Serrano, who was born in the island territory. "That's another issue."
Yet after Serrano questioned him on whether or not the land's highest court would be well-served by a justice who had never been a judge, Thomas not only answered in the affirmative, but also hinted that Serrano would be better off seeking a seat in the Supreme Court than a chair in the Oval Office.
"I'm glad to hear that you don't think there has to be a judge on the Court," said Serrano, "because I'm not a judge; I've never been a judge."
"And you don't have to be born in the United States," said Thomas, referring to the Constitution, which requires the president to be a natural-born citizen but has no such clause for a Supreme Court justice, "so you never have to answer that question."
"Oh really?" asked Serrano. "So you haven't answered the one about whether I can serve as president, but you answer this one?"
"We're evading that one," answered Thomas, referring to questions of presidential eligibility and prompting laughter in the chamber. "We're giving you another option."

Tough Love
Most people nowadays think it improper to discipline children, so I have tried other methods to control my kids when they have had one of 'those moments.'
Since I'm a pilot, one that I have found very effective is for me to just take the child for a flight in the plane during which I say nothing and give the child the opportunity to reflect on his or her behavior.
I don't know whether it's the steady vibration from the engines, or just the time away from any distractions such as TV, video games, computer, IPod, etc.
Either way, my kids usually calm down and stop misbehaving after our flight together. I believe that eye to eye contact during these sessions is an important element in achieving the desired results.
I've included a photo below of one of my sessions with my son, in case you would like to use the technique.

Tea-Party Movement At A Crossroads
The tea-party movement is now one year old, and the left wing of American politics is perplexed. Why don't these people appreciate what Obama has done for them? Obama himself appears detached and unconcerned when he tries to belittle the protesters: "They should be thanking me for lowering their taxes." Really?
In the mainstream media, the coverage of the rallies has been a mixture of bafflement, sarcasm and slander. Lazy journalism mingles easily with liberal bias to yield sloppy reporting of the message behind the rallies.
Yet the main obstacle to the tea-party movement achieving real success – that is, achieving their ambitious goals – is not the media critics or the Obama apologists. The main obstacles to success lie in the challenges within the tea-party movement itself.
The tea-party movement encompass not only the three or four national groups that use that name and attempt to organize and coordinate rallies. The movement includes the 9-12 Project and a dozen similar state-based groups that participate in the rallies and have a broad agenda derived from patriotic values. In many ways, the 9-12 Project has provided the guiding principle of the movement in its emphasis on following the Constitution – the Constitution of the founders, not the "evolving document" of liberal judges.
First, let's recognize that the ambitious goals of the tea-party movement cannot be achieved in one election cycle, no matter how favorable the celestial winds. Liberal progressives did not capture the levers of power in American government in one election, and it will take at least a full generation to reverse the damage done to constitutional government over the past 50 years.
Tea-party activists do not "hate government"; they hate the misuse of government to steal from Peter to benefit Paul. The founders understood that government is a necessary evil, a necessary tool to preserve our lives and liberties in a dangerous world. When government becomes the master by abandoning all restraint and limits, as "progressives" desire, the people must remind government of its limited role and restore constitutional rule.
The important question in evaluating the tea-party movement is not the size of the crowd at the April rallies but whether the many organizations that make up the tea-party movement are laying the solid foundation needed for long-term impact and success.
I believe the answer is a qualified yes, but there are some land mines that have not yet been cleared. Some of those land mines are obvious, like avoiding capture by the Republican Party, but others are not.
Without doubt, winning control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November of 2010 is critical. And I want to see Ken Buck replace Michael Bennett in the U.S. Senate. But that will not be enough if the tea-party movement then fragments and dissolves into warring factions that cannot work together.
The last thing the tea-party movement needs is a lobbyist-dominated politburo in Washington trying to set the agenda. One national tea-party group is already trying to do that through a phony "Contract from America" that few activists have participated in. Any self-appointed tea-party leader who thinks citizen patriots do not care about Islamic radicalism, homegrown terrorists and border security is an impostor.
Activists are right to look for political candidates who are committed to constitutional limits on government power, and they are right to wage primary battles on behalf of those candidates. But after the primary battles are over, they would make a huge mistake to invest energy and support behind third-party candidates who have no chance of winning. That can only split conservative votes and elect liberals.
The tea-party movement must adhere to its principles while avoiding kamikaze behavior that dissipates its energies and its can-do optimism. The Republican Party can be the vehicle for this restoration, but only if it welcomes and embraces the patriotism and constitutional pillars of the tea-party movement.

Producers vs. Expropriators: America’s Coming Civil War?
America is drifting toward civil war, albeit one that does not yet involve bloody battlefields.
This is not mere rhetoric. It describes a crack in the American community that since Barack Obama’s election as president has widened into a deep fissure and might split the nation apart. The divide is not based on regional, racial, or religious differences, factors that often set neighbors at one another’s throats. Rather, the conflict is between producers, those who work to earn their own way and prosper through their own efforts, and expropriators, those who survive by taking from others with governments as their agents.
What motivated hundreds of thousands of Americans to express their ire at government in Tea Party rallies coast to coast while others demonstrated at town hall meetings that saw members of Congress cowering before their angry constituents? What are the targets of outrage of those taking part in the 2010 Tax Day protests?
On top of 2008’s $700 billion bank bailout, there was the $800 billion stimulus package with a catalog of stupid and useless projects that could keep late-night comedians in jokes for years and that, by the way, did not stimulate the economy. There was the 2009 federal deficit of $1.4 trillion or 40% of the budget. There was the national debt, which was 50% of the GDP in 2008 and will approach 80% of the GDP in 2012.
And there was Obamacare, the new entitlements that will add at least $1 trillion, maybe $2 trillion—who can tell?—to the nation’s debt, with money borrowed from China to cover the overspending.
But governments have been redistributing wealth and spending wastefully big time since the New Deal. So what’s new today?
To begin with, the magnitude of the spending is unlike anything Americans have seen since a temporary spike during World War II. But today we don’t have a spike but, rather, a trajectory that is only going up. Americans know that such unconscionable irresponsibility will be taken out of their hides in higher taxes, higher inflation, and economic stagnation as governments squeeze more and more out of productive citizens and enterprises. The whole country economically will soon look like Greece or California.
Furthermore, Obamacare was rightly seen by productive Americans as a tipping point. The country really could go socialist. Obama brushes off the label, but it will soon be the case that government will openly and outright control over half of the economy.
In the past, statists justified redistribution programs as necessary to help those Americans who temporarily and perhaps through no fault of their own found themselves in dire economic straits. And too many productive Americans whose hearts throttled their brains actually bought this argument.
But with Obamacare statists simply asserted that everyone has a right to have health care paid for by their neighbors. (They don’t, by the way.) And everyone will be forced into the system and will obey the dictates of government apparatchiks or go to jail. And the corrupt and thuggish means by which Obamacare was passed gave productive Americans a vision of the government fist in store for their faces in the future.
With Obamacare many productive Americans made a psychological switch, seeing those on the other side of the issue not as opponents but as enemies.
What has morally outraged productive Americans—whether plumbers, store clerks, merchants, professionals, or small-business owners—what galls them the most as they pay their taxes is the knowledge that the fruits of their efforts are bailing out those who purchased houses that they couldn’t afford and who made risky investments that didn’t pan out.
They’re outraged that as their jobs are threatened they must pay to prop up the salaries of auto workers who demand more for their services than the sales of the vehicles they make would cover. They’re outraged that their earnings pay the salaries of federal workers who now, for the most part, collect more than for similar work performed by private sector workers. And the feds are hiring thousands more IRS agents to squeeze everything they can out of productive Americans.

Senator Kyl: Nuclear Summit Didn't Accomplish Anything
In full accord on a global threat, world leaders Tuesday endorsed President Barack Obama's call for securing all nuclear materials around the globe within four years to keep them out of the grasp of terrorists. They offered few specifics for achieving that goal, but Obama declared "the American people will be safer and the world will be more secure" as a result.
But Sen. Jon Kyl, a Republican critic of Obama's nuclear policies, said the conference was a disappointment.
"The summit's purported accomplishment is a nonbinding communique that largely restates current policy and makes no meaningful progress in dealing with nuclear terrorism threats or the ticking clock represented by Iran's nuclear weapons program," Kyl said.
Several countries, including Ukraine, Mexico and Canada, declared their intention to give up highly enriched uranium as a step toward making it harder for terrorist groups or criminal gangs to steal or acquire a key ingredient in the making of atomic weapons. Russia and the U.S. signed a deal to dispose of tons of weapons-grade plutonium, although that won't start for eight years.

Connie Mack Quits Crist Senate Campaign In Florida
Gov. Charlie Crist's political mentor, former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack, resigned Thursday as Crist's campaign chairman in his race for the U.S. Senate.
Mack wrote a terse, two-paragraph letter to his one-time protege that said Crist was wrong to veto a bill (SB 6) that would have made it easier to fire teachers and tie their pay to student test scores.
"As you know, I strongly disagree with your veto," Mack wrote his fellow Republican. "Your veto I believe undermines our education system in Florida and the principles for which I have always stood."
Mack went on to say that Crist's decision to veto the bill was "unsupportable and wrong."
"As you can understand, I can no longer serve as chairman for your campaign for the United States Senate," Mack wrote.
Mack, who retired in early 2001 after a dozen years in the U.S. Senate, addressed the letter to "Charlie" and said he valued their long friendship.
A phone message left on the governor's cell phone and with campaign officials was not immediately returned.

Arizona To Allow Concealed Weapons Without Permit
Favoring the constitutional right to bear arms over others' concerns about gun safety, Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill making Arizona the third state allowing people to carry a concealed weapon without requiring a permit.
The measure takes effect 90 days after the current legislative session ends, which likely puts the effective date in July or August.
"I believe this legislation not only protects the Second Amendment rights of Arizona citizens, but restores those rights as well," Brewer, a Republican, said in a statement.
Alaska and Vermont now do not require permits to carry concealed weapons.
By eliminating the permit requirement, the Arizona legislation will allow people 21 or older to forego background checks and classes that are now required.
Supporters say the bill promotes constitutional rights and allows people to protect themselves from criminals, while critics worry it will lead to more shootings as people with less training have fewer restrictions on carrying weapons.
Some police officials are concerned the law will lead to more accidental gun discharges from people untrained in firearm safety, or that shooters in stressful situations will accidentally strike innocent bystanders with stray bullets.
"I know a lot of 21-year-olds; the maturity level is gravely concerning sometimes," said El Mirage Police Chief Mike Frazier, an Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police board member. "If you're going to be carrying a weapon you should know what the law is and how to use it."
However, the measure was supported by police unions representing rank-and-file officers, who said their best friend on the streets is a law-abiding citizen equipped to protect themselves or others.
