Build It And They Will Come

If there's one thing I enjoy in life its being able to reflect on my past experience in business and use that experience for the good of the community.

I share that because many years ago I decided I wanted to open up a new version of Billiard Rooms, (Pool Hall) in modern communities. The main problem I faced was the public.

If you pick the right location and you build it right, it can work. Location is the key in the case of a Skate Park. A young man at last night's public hearing stated that we can all come together and find a location we can all agree upon.

So let's think about that for a minute. Things have progressed in the right direction, so far. In my honest opinion, this Skate Park needs to be in a location away from residential. I'm thinking more like Winter Place Park.

OK, I know, it's not in the City. Well, perhaps the City doesn't have the RIGHT location. Matt Maciarello stated last night that the Park needs to be designed for the future as the sport is constantly growing, he's right.

Winter Place Park may not be a skate board ride from home but if you put it on the East side of Salisbury, those who live on the West side will have a problem getting there too. So place it in an area in which parents can bring their kids to enjoy.

John Robinson's proposal is a nice gesture but it will not work. The City/County must own the property. Folks, we're this close to settling a deal. However, a property must be chosen and agreed upon. The Council likes the idea, now you have to come up with a location to make it work.

Clearly the last two choices are not suitable. Through comments I'd like to see you use this Post constructively and tell us what location you think would work best. I couldn't build a Billiard Room in a residential community. THINK, what property does the City own that could work.

Keep in mind that the County isn't ponying up ANY money for this concept. However, the County does have land. They are using the excuse that they are afraid of liability and that's a load of crap. The liability on Skate Parks is minimal, seriously. Is someone going to get hurt, absolutely, that's a given. With the proper restrictions and releases they enjoy at their own risk.

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even
hear when Love called her!
Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder.
Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder her name.
When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Love realized
how much he owed the elder and asked Knowledge (another elder):
"Who helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time is
capable of understanding how great Love is."

Sen. Brown Slams Costly Push To Register Welfare Recipients As Politically Motivated

Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown slammed his own state for spending $275,000 on what he described as a politically motivated push to send voter registration letters to people on welfare.

According to MyFoxBoston.com, the state is spending the money to send the letters to nearly 500,000 people on welfare, in response to a suit claiming the law requires welfare recipients be offered the chance to register when they sign up.

President Obama is busy attempting to make this election about small things and ridiculous distractions, but no matter what, Americans cannot escape the harsh realities of the Obama economy. Even a trip to the grocery store has become more difficult for struggling families.

To help illustrate this, consider Julia, the fictional character created by the Obama campaign.

Let’s say Julia goes shopping. She buys the groceries she purchases regularly—produce middle-class Americans might obtain on any given trip to the store. White bread, ground beef, red apples, beans, flour, turkey, and so on.

As it happens, Julia has a receipt from just before Obama took office for the same items. Same groceries, pre-Obama. What does she find? She’s now paying higher prices. There’s been a nearly 15 percent increase since Mr. Obama took office.

Report Finds Widespread Fraud In Taxpayer ID Program

A recently released report shows widespread tax fraud in connection with the federal government’s Individual Taxpayer Identification Number program.

The U.S. Treasury inspector general report accuses the IRS of discouraging employees from reviewing applications for the ID numbers, which are generally from non-resident workers.

The inspector general specifically said there were 154 mailing addresses that were used 1,000 or more times on applications, including 15,795 numbers assigned to a Phoenix address.

Gun Sales Up In Va. After Buying Limit Repealed

Gun sales are up in Virginia following the repeal of the state's long-standing one-handgun-a-month law.

Firearm transactions rose by 17 percent in July compared to June, according to the Virginia Firearms Transaction Center said. The limit was lifted July 1.

Firearm transactions in July totaled about 29,000, up 29 percent from 22,547y transactions recorded in July 2011.

A Big Victory For The People Of Michigan

The state Supreme Court ruled at the end of last week that Michigan's Public Act 4 – also known as the Financial Managers law – will be put on the ballot for repeal this November. That law gives Republican Governor Rick Snyder unprecedented powers to take over cities he deems are in financial crisis, appoint a crony to fire all local elected officials, and then get to work breaking union contracts, slashing public spending, and selling off parts of the commons to corporate interests. Already, several cities including Flint are under the control of so-called financial managers. The effort to repeal the law hit a snag earlier this year, when the state canvassing board, on which lobbyists supporting the law sat, rejected the ballot petition over font size. The state Supreme Court has now reversed that decision, and the people of Michigan will finally have their chance to bring democracy back to the Wolverine State. Stay tuned.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) told a recent gathering of the Women’s Political Committee that the spirits of suffragists Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Alice Paul spoke to her at the White House.

Pelosi said she heard them say: “At last we have a seat at the table”.

A video recently posted on Youtube shows Pelosi speaking in May describing her first meeting with President Bush in the White House after becoming part of the Democratic House leadership.

Private Prisons Are A Bad Deal For Taxpayers

Pay no attention to the profit-seekers; private prisons are a bad deal for taxpayers. Recently, private prison corporations like the Corrections Corporation of America have been urging states to sell them their prisons under the promise that the private sector can administer them better and cheaper. But looking at a recent study out of Arizona, these prison corporations aren't living up to their promise. According to the Tucson Citizen, private prison contracts are actually costing taxpayers $3.5 million more per year than if the state just ran their own prisons. But beyond being a bad deal economically, private for-profit prisons are bad for our freedom. By injecting the profit-motive into incarceration, then there's incentives to lock more and more Americans up. Which is why for-profit prisons use groups like the American Legislative Exchange Council – or ALEC – to lobby for stricter drug and immigration laws to throw more people in prisons, and thus collect bigger profits. This is one of many dangerous side effects to unfettered corporate capitalism.

Google Search Gets Personal Pulling Information From Your Gmail Into Results

On Wednesday, Google announced its Internet search engine would draw information from its users’ Gmail accounts on its main results page for those who opt into its pilot program.

The feature announced Wednesday marks Google’s latest attempt to deliver data that people are seeking more quickly as it tries to maintain the dominance of its lucrative Internet search engine.

Google Inc. is initially testing the feature with 1 million Gmail users who must sign up to participate. Gmail’s more than 425 million users already can search within their e-mail accounts to find something they need, such as an order from Amazon.com or an airline reservation. Now, Gmail users who join the trial will be shown a list of relevant e-mails on Google’s main search results page if the correspondence contains a word entered in a search request.

Gun Control

Gun control advocates aren't exploiting the recent spate of mass shootings when they talk about implementing sensible gun control laws. But the NRA is exploiting the shootings when they use them to hype up wild conspiracy theories about President Obama. As Business Weekreports, just three days after the Colorado theatre massacre, the NRA sent a frantic letter to its members asking for donations and warning, "the future of your Second Amendment rights will be at stake...and our freedom will be at stake." Chicago Won't Show Public Records In Abortion Death

After 24-year-old Tonya Reaves reportedly bled to death following an abortion at a Planned Parenthood facility, a legal group is charging that Chicago authorities are violating their state’s public records procedures by refusing to release documentation about the incident.

Allison K. Aranda, a senior staff counsel for the California-based Life Legal Defense Foundation, confirmed today that a formal public records request for Reaves’ autopsy report was made in writing July 23 by a staff member for Operation Rescue.

New Legislation Would Place A Tax On Carbon Emissions

Speaking of climate change, Democratic Congressman Jim McDermott introduced legislation last week to place a tax on carbon emissions. The Managed Carbon Price Act of 20-12 would require major producers of greenhouse gases, like the coal, oil, and natural gas industries to purchase carbon credit from the Treasury Department depending on how much pollution they emit into the air. According to the Brookings Institute – carbon credits would run at a price of roughly $15 per ton of carbon. The revenue generated from the tax will then be put to paying down the deficit, and giving energy consumers subsidies to deal with slightly higher prices as the economy transitions from fossil fuels to renewables. According to polling, 75% of Americans support regulating carbon greenhouse gases as pollutants – and 60% support a carbon tax similar to what Congressman McDermott has introduced.

Oregon 'Rain Man' Begins Serving 30 Day Sentence

Gary Harrington, the Oregon man convicted of collecting rainwater and snow runoff on his rural property surrendered Wednesday morning to begin serving his 30-day jail sentence in Medford, Ore.

“I’m sacrificing my liberty so we can stand up as a country and stand for our liberty,” Harrington told a small crowd of people gathered outside of the Jackson County (Ore.) Jail.

Several people held signs that showed support for Harrington as he was taken inside the jail.

Facebook, ACLU: Clicking 'Like' Is Free Speech

NORFOLK, Va. -Attorneys for Facebook and the American Civil Liberties Union want a federal appeals court to rule that clicking "Like" on the social networking site is constitutionally-protected free speech.

The case revolves around six employees who were fired by Hampton Sheriff B.J. Roberts after they supported his re-election opponent in 2009. One of those workers, Daniel Ray Carter, had "liked" the Facebook page of Roberts' opponent.

Facebook said clicking `Like' was the 21st century-equivalent of a campaign yard sign.

Details Emerge On Government Study Of Presidential Pardons

A review triggered by stories published by ProPublica and The Washington Post will test the effect of race on pardon decisions.

The U.S. Department of Justice has issued a request for proposals for its first-ever in-depth study of presidential pardons [1], providing fresh details on what it envisions the review will entail.

The agency said it would undertake the study in response to articles [2] published by ProPublica and The Washington Post in December that found white applicants were nearly four times [3] as likely to be pardoned as minorities. African American applicants fared the worst: Just 7 of 189 people pardoned [4] by President George W. Bush were African American. So far, President Obama has pardoned 22 people, including 2 minorities.

City Won't Pay Lawsuit Settlement

The Baltimore Board of Estimates has voted against a settlement that stemmed from a lawsuit filed against three city police officers accused of kidnapping and stranding a teen in 2009.

The officers were accused of picking up 16-year-old Michael Johnson in 2009, driving him around for hours and then dropping him off in Howard County, 10 miles from home, without shoes, socks or a cell phone.
 
The teen told WBALT-TV 11 News at the time that the officers were trying to get information out of him about one of his friends.

Online Voter Registration

We have exciting news to share! Yesterday, the State Board of Elections announced that for the first time ever, Marylanders can register to vote and update their address information online.

This is a big step forward in making the voting process more accessible and efficient for more Marylanders through a secure system.

To register online, an eligible Maryland resident must have a Maryland-issued driver’s license or an ID card issued by Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration.

You can also still register by paper. Please visit one of our many government offices, including MVA offices, State department offices, local departments of Social Services Offices and post offices, or you can request an application by mail by calling 1-800-222-8683.

I strongly encourage all Marylanders to register to vote and of course, to get out to the polls on November 6th.

SSA Offers Early Retirement To 9,000 Employees

The Social Security Administration is offering voluntary early outs to about 9,000 employees — or more than 14 percent of the total workforce.

To be eligible, employees must have 20 years of creditable service and be at least 50 years old, or have at least 25 years of creditable service at any age, including five years of civilian service, according to an SSA email to Federal News Radio.

Employees must be serving under a non-time-limited appointment and have been continuously working for SSA since Dec. 26, 2011.

Narrative: On 3 August 2012 an officer from the Wicomico County Department of Corrections was performing his duties when he was confronted by an inmate, Ronald Ralph Brooks, who threw both urine and feces on the officer. The substances struck the office in the face and on his leg, requiring him to immediately withdraw and seek assistance. The officer was cleaned of these substances and provided medical attention.

Based on Brooks’ actions, an arrest warrant for assault was obtained and subsequently served by the Sheriff’s Office on 7 August 2012. Brooks was processed on this additional charge and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner who continues Brooks’ detention.

Brooks was currently being held without bond on an assault charge at the time of this incident.

The scene was then turned over to the Wicomico County Bureau of Investigations. The store clerk advised that two unknown black males entered the store brandishing handguns .The first suspect was a black male wearing all black clothing armed with a revolver. The second suspect was a black male wearing all dark clothing and a dark red hoodie armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Both suspects were wearing face masks. Suspects obtained an unknown amount of U.S. currency and fled the business on foot towards Chestnut Street. The clerk was not injured during the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wicomico Bureau of Investigations at 410-548-4898.

"The Beijing Conference": See How China Quietly Took Over Africa

Back in 1885, to much fanfare, the General Act of the Berlin Conference [5]launched the Scramble for Africa which saw the partition of the continent, formerly a loose aggregation of various tribes, into the countries that currently make up the southern continent, by the dominant superpowers (all of them European) of the day. Subsequently Africa was pillaged, plundered, and in most places, left for dead. The fact that a credit system reliant on petrodollars never managed to take hold only precipitated the "developed world" disappointment with Africa, no matter what various enlightened, humanitarian singer/writer/poet/visionaries claim otherwise. And so the continent languished. Until what we have dubbed as the "Beijing Conference" quietly took place, and to which only Goldman Sachs, which too has been quietly but very aggressively expanding in Africa, was invited. As the map below from Stratfor shows, ever since 2010, when China pledged over $100 billion to develop commercial projects in Africa, the continent has now become de facto Chinese territory. Because where the infrastructure spending has taken place, next follow strategic sovereign investments, and other modernization pathways, until gradually Africa is nothing but an annexed territory for Beijing, full to the brim with critical raw materials, resources and supplies. So while the "developed world" was and continues to deny the fact that it is broke, all the while having exactly zero money to invest in expansion, China is quietly taking over the world. Literally.

The NY Banking regulators clearly do not understand the regulatory ‘hands off’ philosophy of Treasury and the Fed towards the pampered princes of finance and the privileged few.

This was supposed to have been privately settled amongst gentlemen with a gentle wristslap and a thorough coverup.

And of course this exposes the Federal government and their financerati as utter hypocrites, especially when they are stoking the fires of conflict.

Only the little people are meant to suffer for their country. For the favored few, everything is just another law-bending, money making opportunity.

Some of the wording in this is priceless, especially considering the extent of what the Bank had done and with whom.

I won’t be holding my breath for the US regulators to clean up their own manipulated markets and privileged insiders. It might muss someone’s ruffled sleeves and Presidential cufflinks.

Bernanke's Nightmare Audit Pushed For Romney's Platform

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke calls it his “nightmare scenario.” One of Mitt Romney’s top economic advisers called it “trouble.”

If Republican leaders “exclude it, I would think some of my supporters would be annoyed and feel strongly enough to take it to the floor under the rules.”

Last evening the City of Salisbury held a public hearing regarding the receipt of state monies to cover the "First Phase" of the Salisbury Skatepark. During the course of the meetings opening comments from the public there is some "not in my front yard" commenting and questions about the location from neighbors who also happen to live not in the city but, in Wicomico County! The objection were handled well with most in attendance realizing these kids need a place to safely skate.

Debbie Stam from the city reminds those in attendance that the location was selected based on the DNR grant requirements which include but, are not limited to, land owned by the City that is paid for and deemed suitable by the DNR.

Then up rises the great philanthropic citizen John Robinson to announce let's move this thing to my building I own in the industrial park, I paid $265k for it and will give it to the city while I pay 15 years of payments on it! You can have it inside and I'll even help build it because I'm a skater and I know what needs to be built!

He further stated that the kids that will skate this facility wherever it is are inherently bad and he has them in his living room every night and can't control them! I about fainted in less than five minutes John Robinson completely negated 5 years of work to get this project to the construction phase!

Following John all the not in my front yard people immediately stated yes! Build it in the building a private citizen has 15 years of payments to make using the State of Maryland's money!

Who Follows Salisbury News?

Mayor Jim Ireton and Sarah Lake, that's who. Because Salisbury News is so well viewed, the word was out early this morning as to what's going on Downtown. This brought in the Mayor and Sarah Lake with the new Newspaper, like toilet paper, wiping up the rear.

Your not going to get new news. It will be a weekly paper that simply follows in our footsteps just as the rest of the local MSM. They don't have the sources, unless you want to hear nothing but the Mayor's side of things.

Considering this new group of young wanna be's don't have the instincts or knowledge of what's really going on, (similar to knowing I should be out at Feldman's at 7:30 AM this morning) perhaps I should shut down Salisbury News and watch these guys scramble. JAMES LEWIS MEAGHER, JR. SENTENCED TO EIGHTEEN YEARS INCARCERATION FOR SEX ABUSE OF A MINOR

On August 7, 2012, James Lewis Meagher, Jr., age sixty-three, of Salisbury, Maryland was sentenced to eighteen years active incarceration and seven years of suspended incarceration for the sex abuse of a minor. The Defendant was also sentenced to an additional ten years of incarceration for other crimes charged by the State to be served concurrently. The Honorable Judge Beckstead accepted a plea of guilt to the top count of the indictment, sex abuse of a minor and two counts of possession of child pornography.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Matthew A. Maciarello commended the Child Advocacy Center, Child Protective Services and Detective Seichepine of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office for their work in the investigation and prosecution of this case. Mr. Maciarello also thanked Assistant State’s Attorney Pamela Correa, who prosecuted this case.

Through decades of research, American neurobiologist James McGaugh [20] discovered that as humans learn information and encounter new experiences, the part of the brain known a the amygdala plays a key role [21] in retention. Many commentators on the political left have grasped onto this opportunity to point to the vast amount of income inequality which exists in the United States and reason that it played a part in causing the crash. This argument is typically paired with a proposal to raise taxes on the rich to balance out societal incomes. It is alleged that having government brutes step in order to play the role of Robin Hood is the best and most justified way to alleviate income inequality.

Why Do Dogs Leave Earth First? A Child Answers

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found that he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything more for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.
As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. The young boy, Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.
The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition wihout any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a long while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Close Races Could Be Turned By Out-Of-State Money

Judging by the fundraising, one might think Republican Nancy Jacobs has no chance in her bid for a House seat representing parts of Anne Arundel County. Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, a five-term Democrat, raised three times as much cash last quarter, giving the impression of broad support that will let him blanket the district with advertising.

A closer look at his list of financial supporters shows it’s missing one thing, though: people who can actually vote for him.

Only 15 percent of Mr. Ruppersberger’s $157,000 haul came from Maryland. State residents, in fact, gave Mrs. Jacobs twice as much cash as they did the incumbent.

Georgetown, DE- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Georgetown couple in connection with endangering their children.

The investigation began after detectives were informed of a domestic assault incident that occurred on July 12, 2012 where Melvin Morse grabbed his 11 year old daughter by the ankle and began dragging her across a gravel driveway at the residence where they live. Morse then brought her inside the home and began spanking her. Morse was arrested on July 16th for two counts of Endangering the Welfare and one count of Assault 3rd for this incident. He was later released after posting $750.00 secured bail.

On August 6, 2012, the 11 year old female was brought to the Child Advocacy Center where she was interviewed and informed detectives that over the course of a two year period, beginning in May 2009, she was disciplined by her father by what he called “waterboarding.” This act was performed on her by her father holding her face under a running facet causing the water to go up her nose and all over her face. This form of punishment was used on her no less than four different occasions. The victim’s mother, Pauline Morse, witnessed a few of these incidents and failed to stop Melvin from performing the act.

Melvin Morse and Pauline Morse were arrested at their residence on August 7th and brought back to Troop 4 where they were processed for the above listed charges. They were both arraigned at JP3 and Melvin was committed to SCI on $14,500.00 secured bail. He was issued a no contact order with either of the children and Pauline. Pauline was released on $14,500.00 unsecured bail and is to have no contact with either of the children or Melvin. The children are currently in the care of Division of Family Services.

CBO: Obamacare Will Leave 30 Million Uninsured

A new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report says that under the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare, 30 million non-elderly Americans will remain without health insurance in 2022.

One of the main arguments the Obama administration made for passing the Affordable Care Act was that it would provide coverage for the uninsured.

Currently, accoriding to CBO, there are 53 million uninsured persons in the United States, including uninsured illegal aliens. The CBO estimates that in 2022--8 years after the Affordable Care Act has been fully implemented--30 million people will remain uninsured.

While speaking to residents, officers heard a commotion in the rear of a second floor apartment and learned that the suspect had fled through a window. A brief foot pursuit ensued and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was turned over to the custody of the Maryland State Police.

Wedding Ring Is In For Repair

Since when does a plain wedding band need repairs, along with your watch, for a whole month?

Another piece falls into place. In a press conference last week Obama was not wearing his wedding ring nor was he wearing his watch.

When noticed, his staff said his ring was out for repairs. No reason was given for the missing watch.

Delhi Charter School: Stop Discriminating Against Pregnant Students!

As a former teen mom, I know how hard it is to stay in school and graduate on time when you're pregnant or taking care of a new baby. So I was shocked to learn that the Delhi Charter School in Delhi, Louisiana is shaming and suspending pregnant students -- and imposing mandatory pregnancy tests on students who "might" be pregnant.

Students at Delhi Charter School -- which is publicly funded -- who are suspected of being pregnant are forced to take mandatory pregnancy tests. If they refuse, they're told to stay home or transfer. And if they test positive, they're told to stay home or transfer.

This discrimination is illegal. But the administration at Delhi Charter School seems to be more interested in making sure pregnant girls can't get an education than in obeying federal law.
That's why I started this petition to tell the Delhi Charter School administration to stop forcing girls to take pregnancy tests, and to stop shaming and suspending pregnant students and students who refuse to take the tests.

Does this kind of shaming stop teen pregnancies and build stronger, better educated communities? No. I know because I was a teen mom at 17, and now I work with teen moms every day as the Teen Parent Ambassador Coordinator for Brigham Women's Hospital in Boston.

7 years ago, I told teachers and administrators at my high school I was pregnant, thinking they'd want to help me graduate and build a future for myself and my child. Instead, they made me feel ashamed and unwelcome, and made it almost impossible for me to attend classes, jeopardizing my education and my future.

I was lucky enough to be able to transfer and, today, I work with other teen moms to support them in graduating on time and growing into successful adults. But the wonderful young women I work with have to overcome huge obstacles -- 30% of all teen girls who drop out of high school leave because of pregnancy, and 70% of teen girls who give birth end up leaving school.

Advocacy groups and legal experts have already told Delhi Charter School their policy of mandatory pregnancy tests and suspending pregnant students breaks several federal laws because it discriminates against female students -- it also violates the Constitution.

The Delhi Charter School says it "may rethink" the policy, but in the meantime, they can still shame pregnant students. Tell the school to immediately eliminate mandatory pregnancy tests and commit to giving pregnant students the same the same education, in the same place and at the same time, as all other students.

Federal Judge Rules Against Hawaii Gay Marriage

HONOLULU (AP) - A federal judge ruled Wednesday against two Hawaii women who want to get married instead of enter into a civil union, handing a victory to opponents of gay marriage in a state that's been at the forefront of the issue.

U.S. District Court Judge Alan C. Kay's ruling sides with Hawaii Health Director Loretta Fuddy and Hawaii Family Forum, a Christian group that was allowed to intervene in the case.

"Accordingly, Hawaii's marriage laws are not unconstitutional," the ruling states. "Nationwide, citizens are engaged in a robust debate over this divisive social issue. If the traditional institution of marriage is to be reconstructed, as sought by the plaintiffs, it should be done by a democratically elected legislature or the people through a constitutional amendment," and not through the courts.

Labeling Error Blamed For Rifle Delivery Instead of TV

A D.C. man expecting a television to be delivered to his Northeast D.C. apartment instead received a brand new fully-assembled, ready-to-fire Sig Sauer assault rifle.

At first glance, you might think Seth Horvitz was being used. A lethal weapon shipped to his address, but meant for someone else? Someone who would get the box before he did?

But the documents inside the box told another story and it appears what happened here was an innocent yet astounding mistake.

Seth Horvitz knew there was something not quite right the minute he opened the door to his apartment. The box in the hallway didn't look big enough to hold the TV he had ordered.

Dry Spell

Every so often we come across a period in which local news somewhat dries up and that's exactly what we've been dealing with this past week.

Someone contacted me yesterday and said, what's up with the local news, there's not much of it. As if I should just manufacture news and information. I'll leave that up to the local MSM, I'm not doing it just because things are quiet.

I'm on my 8th year of doing this for the community. I'd say I've paid my dues while newcomers come along wanting to jump in and ride the Salisbury News wave. Yesterday another local Blogger called it quits. Not that anyone will mind, it's not easy doing what we do. John Robinson is getting into the game this week with a new newspaper here in Salisbury. Of course he's hired Sarah Lake to run it, the woman who was fired from the Daily Times for her involvement with the alleged phone spoof. The woman who always sided with the Mayor and published a LOT of false information about City Council Members. This should be quite interesting to watch.

Will John Robinson try to be like Joe Albero used to be? Will he stir the pot just to get a name for himself? Is he prepared for multiple lawsuits out of the gate? One thing is for sure, this business isn't an easy one and the day that a Newspaper tries to act like a Blog is the day they'll get into deep trouble, (just as the Daily Times has recently). Print media isn't afforded the same freedom a Blog has and hopefully Mr. Robinson knows the difference.

In the mean time, my hat is tipped to Mr. Robinson for doing what MOST are not willing to do, open a new business in Salisbury and hire several people to run it. Hopefully we'll get a newspaper that isn't one sided like the Daily Times.

Mr. Robinson assures me they will be fair and balanced. Many have stated that is impossible, between John and Sarah being in charge. Many have suggested this paper will quickly turn into an Eastern Shore National Enquirer. One thing is for sure, John Robinson is unpredictable. In this day and age, newspapers are on their way out. If he sticks to his promise and delivers a quality paper, the Daily Times is done. If he doesn't, his paper will fail a miserable and expensive death.

While newspaper answer to their customers, (subscribers and advertisers) Salisbury News answers to no one. This is the main reason we have survived. We'll see how others survive in time. Have a great day Ladies & Gentlemen.
