Why Does Negative Info Linger On Your Credit Report For Up To 7 Years?

Credit-related mistakes can follow you link a stink you can’t wash off. Have an account go into collections, miss payments on your student loans, credit cards, mortgage, car loan, and that info can linger on your credit report for up to seven years, even if it’s just a fluke. This is particularly a problem with medical debt, where even someone with otherwise pristine credit is unable to pay a huge hospital bill. So why is seven years?

That was the question that Credit.com’s Gerri Detweiler looked into, only to find that most people in the consumer credit business have no idea why the Fair Credit Reporting Act [PDF] specifies a maximum of seven years. After all, why not five years or ten years — or why there aren’t a range of dates for different transgressions?

One person from Experian, on of the three major credit bureaus, suggested that the source might even be Biblical, pointing out that Chapter 15 of Deuteronomy mandates forgiveness of debts every seven years.

But she eventually found a Congressional staffer who was able to dig up some info on how the seven-year figure worked its way into the federal legislation.

Please Take Extra Care These Next Couple Of Weeks

 Worcester County Sheriff's Office

Hey Folks! For those who are traveling our highways and roadways, please take extra care these next couple of weeks. Farmers are in their fields getting field corn out which means heavy equipment on the roadway. Remember the simple rule to make eye contact with the farmer before passing from behind. Often times, they will wait to find a safe spot to pull over to allow you go on by. Exercise some patience. We see many close calls and a few accidents each year due to inattentive driving or impatience. These folks are in the fields all hours of the day harvesting their crops. As the corn is removed, our friendly deer population will be on the move as well. Cooler temps will bring them out during the evening and overnight hours. We will see a large increase in deer vs vehicle crashes over the next few months. If you are involved in an accident with a deer, please pull off the travel portion of the roadway and call 911 if at all possible. Do not attempt to remove the deer from the roadway. This poses a serious risk to both you and other drivers during evening and overnight hours. Be safe in your travels.

Live Auctions On eBay Will Begin This Week

Ready to raise a virtual paddle at a high-end auction from your computer or smartphone? Earlier this year, eBay announced that it will revive live auctions and team up with fancy real-life auction house Sotheby’s to bring high-end auctions to new audiences. If it works, that could give eBay new income to help the company through its breakup with PayPal.

“Hang on,” you might be saying. “Aren’t all auctions on eBay live?” Well, sure, even a week-long auction islive, but that isn’t what they mean. What eBay users will be able to do, starting on Wednesday during a Swann Gallery auction of African-American fine art, is bid through the site and have a representative of eBay raise a real-life auction paddle on their behalf. Bidders do have to sign up in advance before the event begins.

Salisbury Man Arrested On Drug, Weapons Charges

QUEENSTOWN — A Salisbury man was arrested on drug and weapons charges after the Queen Anne's County Drug Task Force served a warrant at 103 Wye Knot Road in Queenstown, where he was staying.

The task force was assisted by members of Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office tactical team and criminal investigations and troopers from Maryland State Police Centreville Barracks. When no one answered, the tactical team made a forced entry, police said.

Police seized drugs, including suspected heroin, suspected cocaine, suspected tramadol and suspected marijuana, a working scale and packaging material along, a 9mm Beretta pistol and ammunition, a .22 rifle, a double-barrel 12-guage shotgun and a JC Higgins 60 shotgun with the serial number obliterated. Unmanned patrol boats???

The Navy plans to add self-guided unmanned patrol boats to its fleet. The service presented the new technology on the James River in Virginia. Defense officials said the boats can leave warships they're protecting and swarm to attack potential threats. The Navy hopes one day the boats could help stop attacks like the bombing of the USS Cole. Arlington-based Office of Naval Research demonstrated the new technology and called it a success. Officials said the boats could join the Navy's fleet within a year.

Maryland Poll: No To O’Malley 2016 Run

A strong majority of Maryland residents don’t want Gov. Martin O’Malley to run for president in 2016, a new poll says.

According to a Goucher poll released Tuesday, 65 percent of those surveyed do not believe the governor should run for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, compared with 19 percent who said they think he should. Nine percent said they didn’t know and 7 percent said it depends.

O’Malley — whose second and final term as governor ends in January — has said he is “seriously considering” a potential presidential bid. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that he has told Democratic donors that he would make a run for the nomination even if former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — widely seen as the prohibitive front-runner should she choose to run — enters the race. He has also recently visited early presidential nominating states like Iowa and New Hampshire to stump for Democratic candidates in the November midterm elections.

When You See The T-Shirt a Florida Man Wore to Court, You May be Astonished He Won His Case

A Florida man won a traffic case in court last week — and he managed to do so while wearing a “f*** the police” shirt.

According to a post he authored on Live Leak, Michael Burns was issued a ticket by the Broward County Sheriff’s office for allegedly having his license plate obstructed.

Burns, however, contended that he was innocent of the charges and instead said the cop was seeking out revenge for an encounter he had earlier that night with him.

“I routinely record cops when I see them. I saw a group of about 10 on the side of highway 27 in Broward County Florida kicking people out that were hanging out at 1:30 in the morning. It was public property and I was told they were only being kicked out to ‘ruin their fun’ by the first officer I contacted,” he wrote. “The next officer I ran into told me I had to leave.”

The Land That Made Me Me

No Charges In 'Sloppy' SWAT Raid That Maimed Baby

A grand jury in Georgia has decided not to indict any officers involved in a botched SWAT team drug raid that disfigured a 19-month-old baby boy in May.

The Habersham County grand jury announced Monday it found the local sheriff’s department’s drug investigation was “hurried, sloppy and unfortunately not in accordance with the practices and policies,” but then turned around and said there was “no evidence of criminal intent or criminal negligence on the part of any law enforcement officer involved.”

Bounkham “Bou Bou” Phonesavanh was permanently scarred when a SWAT team raided his parents’ home at 3 a.m. on May 28, lobbing a flash-bang grenade into the house before they entered. That grenade landed in the crib where little Bou Bou was sleeping. The device exploded, tearing open the boy’s face, severing his nose and severely burning his face and chest.

Why Brown Could Lose in MD

On the eve of the first governor’s debate, is the lieutenant governor “pulling a Townsend” similar to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend’s implosion in the 2002 governor’s race that gift-wrapped the election for Republican underdog Bob Ehrlich?

To date, the answer is “yes.”

The Brown campaign is badly off-track.
In a Cocoon

Its professional staff has hermetically sealed their candidate in a tight cocoon, isolating him from the media and all voters except the most loyal Democratic groups.

They’ve picked the wrong issues to run on. Abortion rights and gun control laws are settled matters in Maryland. Even Republican gubernatorial nominee Larry Hogan Jr. agrees on that.

The “pocketbook issues” will decide this election — or as advisers to Bill Clinton put it in the 1990s, “It’s the economy, stupid.”
Big Mistake

According to Patrick Gonzales’ latest poll, the most pressing matters for voters — by far — are the economy and taxes. These are precisely the themes heavily promoted by Hogan and ignored by Brown.

That’s a huge mistake, a giant failure to understand what’s troubling Marylanders.

Brown hired national campaign specialists when he should have turned to local pros. While abortion and gun control still might be dominant issues in Kansas or Georgia, they aren’t in Maryland. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.

Meanwhile, Brown’s handlers have isolated him from the public at large.

Terrorist Suspects Arrested At Airport With “Images Of Beheadings” And Islamist Propaganda

Many countries are attempting to place a burka ban, removing the veil from the Muslim community as terror attacks continue to rise. The hijab is an obvious security risk, since it’s impossible to know who’s under the headscarf. However, what about those who wish to enact jihad without an easily identifiable indicator?

Australia is finding out why Muslims are demanding that security measures, such as bomb-sniffing dogs, frisking, or even TSA screening, be abrogated because they violate their religious rights, and it could mean the difference between life and death for thousands.

Airports in Sydney and Melbourne have successfully intercepted 11 suspected terrorists in less than one month, the Herald Sun reports:

How to force Congress to vote on Obama's war against the Islamic State

Fifteen years ago, little-known Republican Rep. Tom Campbell bucked the White House and congressional leaders of both parties to force a vote on President Clinton’s air strikes against Serbia. And then he brought one of the relatively few lawsuits in U.S. history against a president under the 1973 War Powers Resolution — for going to war without explicit authority from Congress.

Today, the libertarian-minded law professor scolds his former colleagues for ducking what he describes as their constitutional duty to vote on President Obama’s new war against the Islamic State militant group. And Campbell says even just one determined lawmaker could force a reluctant Congress to take a stand.

“This is Congress running way from its responsibility,” the soft-spoken Campbell told Yahoo News in a telephone interview. “Is there anything left to the Constitution’s requirement that it’s the Congress’s role to declare war?”

Disease Plagues Illegal Immigrants; Lack Of Medications, Basic Hygiene Blamed

Communicable diseases continue to be a problem at the New Mexico facility built to house illegal immigrant families surging across the U.S.-Mexico border, and the immigrants themselves aren’t taking their own health care very seriously, according to an audit released Monday.

While the Border Patrol is doing a good job of handling the surge of illegal immigrant children traveling alone without their parents, the families who are being housed at a special facility continue to have health problems and trouble using the bathroom, the Homeland Security inspector general said.

“Family unit illnesses and unfamiliarity with bathroom facilities continued to result in unsanitary conditions,” Inspector General John Roth wrote in a memo to Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson.

VA Fires Four Senior Executives in Response to Major Scandal

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Veterans Affairs Department said it is firing four senior executives as officials move to crack down on wrongdoing following a nationwide scandal over long wait times for veterans seeking medical care, and falsified records covering up the delays.

The dismissals are the first since Congress passed a law this summer making it easier for veterans who experience delays to get care outside VA’s nationwide network of hospitals and clinics. The law also made it easier for the agency to fire senior officials suspected of wrongdoing, shortening their appeals process to 28 days.

Among those being fired were a top purchasing official at the Veterans Health Administration, directors of VA hospitals in Pittsburgh and Dublin, Georgia, and a regional hospital director in central Alabama, the VA said.

Obama Sends 'Thank You' to Beheader's Oklahoma Mosque Congregation

The White House has reportedly sent a top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official to the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City (ISGOC) to “present a special thank you to the Muslim congregation,” Oklahoma’s KFOR reports.

The beheader's mosque, the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, was founded by a sibling of a U.S.-designated Hamas terrorist, and in the past has welcomed an Imam who was a close confidant to al-Qaeda mastermind Anwar al-Awlaki.

David L. Myers, who serves as director of the DHS Center for Faith-based & Neighborhood Partnerships, was tasked with presenting a personal message from President Barack Obama. It read, "Your service is a powerful example of the powerful roots of the Abrahamic faiths and how our communities can come together with shared peace with dignity and a sense of justice.”

EBOLA: JUST FREAKING TAKE PEOPLE'S TEMPERATURES AT OUR AIRPORTS ALREADY, YOU MORONS!

Please pardon my caps, but what in the name of grandma’s fluffy buttered biscuits are these people supposed in charge of everything who claim they have it all “under control” actually doing?

Yeah. This has devolved into name calling. I said it. Morons. At least, that’s how our officials are portraying themselves to the nation and the world right now so when I see stories like the one I’m about to discuss below, it’s what I scream at the screen.

We must be living in the movie Idiocracy because we aren’t just talking about the common cold here. We’re talking about the deadly, highly infectious Ebola virus — something that wouldn’t be so widespread and wouldn’t have murdered so many people at this point if it had been handled more appropriately from the get go.

The past few weeks have seen America’s first official case of Ebola wind up here unintentionally (as in, the infected person wasn’t among the people the American government keeps shipping over here who are already diagnosed with it before they get here). Thomas Eric Duncan came here undetected via plane. All the cases the government has intentionally brought here, also got here how? BY PLANE.

Section 8 Voucher Application Moves Online

BALTIMORE —Hoping to avoid chaos and confusion, Baltimore City Housing officials are turning to technology as they open a waiting list for Section 8 vouchers.

Applications can be submitted on a computer or smartphone. Housing officials said they think taking the process online is the most efficient way to help the most people, and they don't want to create a situation that has happened in other cities.

Thousands braved stifling heat in Atlanta in August 2010, and last year in Chalmette, Louisiana, hundreds waited in the rain. In both cases, all they wanted was to get on a waiting list for federally subsidized Section 8 rental vouchers.

Democrats: yo, single women, don’t forget to vote

As we enter into the final weeks of the 2014 campaign season, Democrats are doubling their efforts to try and mobilize single women to vote this year. As Rothman wrote this past summer, single women voters are the biggest obstacles Republicans face when it comes to retaking the Senate (via National Journal) [emphasis mine]:

The “gender gap”—the difference between Republicans’ usual margin of victory among men and Democrats’ usual margin of victory among women—is nothing new. It has been evident for years in almost every election up and down the ballot. But a National Journal analysis of public polls, and interviews with strategists from both parties, suggests that the gap has ballooned to historic proportions across 2014′s battleground states. Democrats are running campaigns designed to press an advantage among women that is helping the party compete in a number of races despite an unfriendly political climate and steep GOP advantages among men. Meanwhile, Republicans are searching for issues to combat the trend with female voters.

“I think the gender gaps are growing compared to past election cycles,” said Matt Canter, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee’s deputy executive director. “We’ll see how that turns out, but that’s certainly what the public and internal polling shows, in every race across the board.”

It’s a trend several Republicans privately admitted they are watching nervously, though some point out that one end of the growing gap isn’t bad news for the GOP. “I haven’t seen gender gaps like this in any race until this year, and we’re seeing them all over the place,” said Nicole McCleskey, a New Mexico-based Republican pollster for Public Opinion Strategies. “Typically people say we’re in bad shape with women, but it’s also that Democrats are not doing well with men. That’s why the gap is exploding like it is.”

WJZ, Baltimore Sun Ignore $288 Million Anthony Brown Healthcare Boondoggle in First Gubernatorial Debate

BALTIMORE, MD – Today's first gubernatorial debate of the 2014 general election included no questions about Anthony Brown's role in the state's botched rollout of the failed Maryland Health Benefit Exchange which will ultimately cost taxpayers $288 million - the exchange was the primary responsibility of Democratic candidate Anthony Brown. It has been plagued with problems since its October 1, 2013 rollout, including immediately crashing upon launch and causing tens of thousands of Marylanders to live without healthcare coverage for an indeterminate period of time.

Gubernatorial candidate Larry Hogan said, "It is absolutely shameful that today's moderators gave Lt. Governor Brown a free pass on his role in the failed rollout of the exchange. Maryland's rollout was a national embarrassment and Brown continues to duck all responsibility for his role in its implementation. WJZ collected questions for days from Marylanders for this debate; I find it very unlikely that not a single Marylander had a question about the worst boondoggle in state history."

Although Brown was not made to answer for his role in the health care exchange rollout, Larry Hogan was pressed on every issue from the Brown campaign's negative, false attack ads.

The debate will air tonight at 7 pm on WJZ and will be simulcast on Maryland Public Television.

Connecticut Governor Declares State of Emergency Over Ebola as a Precaution

The order gives the state the authority to quarantine and isolate people who may have been exposed to the virus

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy has declared a public health emergency for the state as a precaution during the Ebola epidemic that is affecting several countries in western Africa.

He signed an order declaring the emergency on Tuesday and it gives the commissioner of the state Department of Public Health the authority to quarantine and isolate people whom the commissioner “reasonably believes has been exposed to the Ebola virus.”

Malloy said this is not in response to any specific case, but is meant to provide state health officials with the authority necessary to “prevent any potential transmission of the Ebola virus within the State of Connecticut,” the letter says.

“We are taking this action today to ensure that we are prepared, in advance, to deal with any identified cases in which someone has been exposed to the virus or, worst case, infected,” Malloy said in a statement. “Our state’s hospitals have been preparing for it, and public health officials from the state are working around the clock to monitor the situation. Right now, we have no reason to think that anyone in the state is infected or at risk of infection. But it is essential to be prepared and we need to have the authorities in place that will allow us to move quickly to protect public health, if and when that becomes necessary. Signing this order will allow us to do that.”

Ebola outbreak: Spread of deadly disease across Europe is 'unavoidable', warns WHO chief

The spread of Ebola across Europe is "quite unavoidable", the World Health Organisation has warned as four people were in hospital after a Spanish nurse became the first person known to have contracted the virus outside Africa.

WHO European director Zsuzsanna Jakab has said while more cases will spread in Europe, the continent should be well prepared to control the disease.

Health officials in Spain today said four people - the nurse, her husband and two others - were being monitored in hospital in a bid to stem the spread of the virus.

"Such imported cases and similar events as have happened in Spain will happen also in the future, most likely," Ms Jakab told Reuters.

"It is quite unavoidable ... that such incidents will happen in the future because of the extensive travel both from Europe to the affected countries and the other way around," she said.

Pennsylvania Seniors Express 'Shock' over Premium Jumps Due to Obamacare

Pennsylvania seniors are expressing outrage as their health insurance premiums skyrocket and in some cases more than double due to Obamacare.

"I was shocked," Charles Stull, a 74-year-old retired teacher from Mt. Lebanon told the Pittsburgh Tribune Review. "I'm thinking that I'm going to have to switch."

The largest insurer in the state, Highmark Inc., says the rate spikes are caused by Obamacare.

"The biggest driver is reduced government funding as a result of Obamacare," said Highmark spokesperson Aaron Billger.

Others, like 78-year-old Art Walker, worry what the rate increases will mean for his ability to choose the doctors he wants to see.

"I don't want my options limited at my age," said Walker. "I don't want to be limited where I can go for my doctors."

Brown, Hogan, Duel Over Economy in 1st Debate

BALTIMORE (WNEW/AP) — Maryland’s gubernatorial candidates had some heated moments in the first debate Tuesday.

Lt Governor Anthony Brown and candidate Larry Hogan kept in line with the negative pace of the race as they exchanged words on education, the environment and spending.

The debate was held at WJZ-TV’s studio in Baltimore.

The two even went at it over a question about the tone of the campaign described in a recent report by The Baltimore Sun as the most negative in the nation.

Hogan hammered away at tax increases approved by Gov. Martin O’Malley in an effort to link Brown with the tax hikes. But Brown repeatedly emphasized he would not raise taxes if elected governor.

The two also debated tax relief. Brown says he would support tax breaks for small businesses. Hogan says the state needs to improve the business climate by rolling back as many of the tax increases approved in recent years as possible.

The hour-long debate is scheduled to be broadcast Tuesday evening between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Law suit? Porn addict? Divorcing? Seeking investment ideas? Worried about the world?

Jesus of Nazareth was a Jewish carpenter that was born about 2,000 years ago inBethlehem, which is now a Palestinian city located in the central West Bank about 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem. Over the course of a very short period of time (about a year) Jesus developed a large following as a miracle worker and religious teacher. He was publicly executed by crucifixion around the year 35, and many millions believe the historical narrative that he was raised from the dead after three days in a tomb, and later ascended into the heavens.

Below is an English translation of one of Jesus' very famous outdoor lectures, which was widely shared by his disciples that were present, and eventually written down circa 70-90.

If you take 5-10 minutes to read this sermon, then you will know what being a Christian is actually supposed to mean.

I like to read this first thing in the morning, immediately followed by a few minutes of meditation where I sit quietly listening. I would not expect everything in the reading to speak to you, but I believe something will, as is always the case for me.

President Ebola

In 2009, Obama lifted the ban on AIDS cases entering the United States. Describing HIV as “a virus that has touched lives,” he announced that he was ending a ban based on “fear rather than fact.”

Obama didn’t specify what new facts about AIDS had been discovered that made it no longer infectious or a threat to public health. Instead he just had the CDC remove HIV from the list of “communicable diseases of public health significance.” Was HIV no longer of “public health significance”? The amount of money being lavished on it indicated otherwise. Was it then suddenly no longer communicable?

The CDC awkwardly tried to explain why syphilis, gonorrhea and other sexually transmitted diseases were still on the list, but HIV wasn’t. The answer could be summed as “because Obama said so.” The CDC did promise to “consider other diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, for scientific review.” But most STDs don’t have their own billion-dollar lobby that can make or break politicians.

In a cage match between public health and politically correct cash, the winner was AIDS. And so the ban was lifted and immigrants no longer had to be tested for HIV.

Democrat Insider Confirms Obama is Planning "One-Party" Rule Over America

It has been said repeatedly over the past six years, and there is ample evidence to support the claim, that President Obama has abused his authority and conducted so many power grabs, so as to create a “Constitutional crisis“.

This assertion has recently been backed up and confirmed by Democrat insider and former Clinton operative Dick Morris.

According to Newsmax, Morris recently appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity to promote his new book Power Grab-Obama’s Dangerous Plan for a One-Party Nation.

Morris believes that Obama is attempting to turn the US into a “Banana Republic” that is ruled by a single party, the Democrats.

“What he really wants to do is stack the deck to assure permanent Democratic control over the country – a one-party democracy, like Mexico had and Japan has had,” Morris said.

Poll Shows Many Don't Know Candidates Four Weeks Before Election

Voters in Maryland go to the polls four weeks from today, and a new poll shows that a sizable number of Marylanders don't know enough about the major party candidates for governor to form a favorable or unfavorable opinion.

The Goucher College Poll of more than 700 residents finds that 32-percent did not know enough about Lt. Governor Anthony Brown to form an opinion, and 45-percent did not know enough about Republican Larry Hogan to form an opinion.

"Unfortunately for both of the candidates, there is a high level of don't know across Maryland," said Professor Mileah Kromer, Director of the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center at Goucher, which conducted the poll.

Western Water Grab – Another Means to Control the Population?

In my opinion, water is our most valuable resource. Oil, gold, rare-earth minerals and copper are just a few examples of the plethora of resources that we have available as a planet; however, we can live without them. Water, on the other hand, is life, and those who control it wield tremendous power. Out west, the battle for water has become a rallying point for those who depend upon water for their livelihood; as the CSKT Water Compact looks to put the Federal Government in charge of water flow via their proxy, the local Native American tribes. The Feds use of Native Americans as “battering rams” for the furthering of their agenda of control is not new, as I outlined previously here. Recognizing the potential dangers of federal water control, many citizens and activists alike have demonstrated the pitfalls of allowing Federal\Tribal control of a resource that is mandated to the individual state. One such freedom fighter is Elaine Willman. Elaine was in Flathead Valley, Montana for about 10 days in September, and I was delighted to be able to record one of her presentations. Please do not think that the fight for water is an “out west” thing and not worthy of your attention. For if this Compact passes in Montana, it’s effects will be sweeping and swift; and will, no doubt, touch the very water you now take for granted. The Glacial Forum sponsored Elaine’s presentation which can be seen below. More

Why Won’t Obama Ban Air Travel From Countries Where Ebola Is Out Of Control?

Why does Barack Obama refuse to take even the most basic steps to protect Americans from Ebola?

Why does Barack Obama refuse to take even the most basic steps to protect Americans from Ebola? Even though it has already been demonstrated that Ebola can be brought over to the United States by a passenger on an airplane, Obama refuses to do anything that would even restrict air travel from nations where Ebola is spiraling out of control. Back in September, Obama said that it was “unlikely” that any individual with Ebola could get through the “extensive screening” at our airports and pose a threat to the general population. But he was wrong. That has already happened. And yet the official White House position is that there is “no consideration of a travel ban” at this point. What possible explanation is there for such gross negligence?

All of this talk about “extensive screening” at our airports is just a smokescreen because it does not exist. As Mike Adams of Natural News has pointed out, Thomas Eric Duncan walked freely through our airports and entered the general population without ever being asked by U.S. security personnel about where he was from or if he had any health conditions…

Maryland Today: Wellness program required for Md. state employees

ANNAPOLIS — State employees will now be required to participate in a wellness program as part of their health insurance or pay a $50 annual penalty.

The Daily Record of Baltimore reports that the wellness-program requirement begins Jan. 1 for Maryland state employees, retirees, and covered spouses, affecting more than 250,000 people.

The wellness-program requirements will be relatively easy to fulfill in 2015, but the requirements become more stringent in future years, as will the penalties.

By 2017, the penalties could increase to as much as $450 for participants who fail to undergo required screenings and fail to adhere to treatment plans for chronic conditions.

Anne Timmons, director of state employee benefits, said the wellness program is projected to slash the state's costs by $4 billion over the next decade.

Chicago Gets Third Earliest Snow on Record

On Saturday, October 4, unseasonably cold weather brought Chicago the third earliest snow flurries on record.

The two earlier snow flurries in records compiled starting in 1881 occurred during the last week of September, the first in 1928 and the second in 1944.

The city of Rockford, 90 miles north west of Chicago and the state of Illinois' third largest city, recorded its second earliest snow fall, just missing the 1951 record of October 3.

The chill that brought Chicago's early snowfall was the coldest weekend in six months and hit temperatures that were some 20 degrees colder than the normal and 30 degrees colder than the previous weekend.

Sunday's temperatures warmed to 57 degrees, closer to average temperatures.

Coalition Files Motion In Conowingo Fight

CHESTERTOWN — The Clean Chesapeake Coalition filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, a supplement to its motion to intervene and its formal comments on the commission’s draft environmental impact statement in connection with the relicensing of Conowingo Dam.

The motion's supplement permits the coalition’s newest member, Queen Anne’s County, to participate directly in the relicensing proceedings. The other filing represents the coalition’s comments on FERC’s preliminary environmental impact findings and recommendations in the relicensing of Conowingo Dam.

The dam, located on the Susquehanna River in northern Maryland, is owned and operated by Exelon Power. It went into service, generating hydroelectric power, in 1928. Exelon applied for renewal of its license to operate the dam in August 2012. The 30-year license officially expired Sept. 1 of this year. However, FERC granted Exelon a one-year extension on Sept. 10 to allow time for further study before deciding on the full term renewal.

Hogan Emerges as Clear Winner in First Debate

Brown agrees with Hogan that current administration has failed in creating a positive business climate

BALTIMORE, MD –
Larry Hogan emerged as the clear winner against Lt. Governor Anthony Brown as the pair faced off in the first general election debate this morning, taped at WJZ studios in Baltimore, which will air this evening at 7 pm. Throughout the debate, Lt. Governor Brown agreed with Hogan that the current administration hasn’t done enough to improve Maryland’s economy.

"I encourage everyone to tune in tonight to watch this first conversation on how to change Maryland. The Lt. Governor and I have a very real differences on how to put people back to work and improve our economy,” said Hogan. “This year, the people of Maryland have a real, clear choice for a change – more spending and higher taxes from Lt. Governor Brown or common sense solutions to our state’s serious economic problems.”

“Anthony Brown and the current administration's misguided economic policies have destroyed our economy and crushed hardworking Marylanders and their families. Poll after poll shows that Marylanders are focused on the economy, jobs, and taxes. That has been my entire focus for the last three years. If you are happy with the way things have been going with the economy in Maryland over the last eight years, you should probably vote for my opponent. But if you're ready to move in a new direction, with a renewed focus on restoring our economy and rolling back as many of these 40 consecutive taxes as possible, then I ask you to join me to make a real difference to bring about change."

Debbie Wasserman Schultz Vows to Ride Dem Party Down to Destruction

The Democratic Party may not be willing to pay for her dresses, but Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not going to get out of this chair until the party collapses under her.

“I was elected to a four-year term, and I will serve as DNC chair till Jan. 21, 2017,” she said to the Sun Sentinel.

Just in time to retire after having lost Congress.

“I’ve never seen anybody work as hard and as tirelessly as Debbie has,” Biden said in September. “If we want anybody to do that 60 seconds or 120 seconds we get to respond to some attack on the president or on the administration, the best person … is always Debbie.”

Compared to Biden maybe. Or they could team up for double the stupid. I’m not sure who can do more self-inflicted damage to the Democratic Party, Biden or Schultz?

Nurse in Spain Tests Positive for Ebola in First Infection Outside West Africa

A nurse in Spain has tested positive for the Ebola virus after treating a patient repatriated to Madrid from Sierra Leone, according to sources within the country’s health authorities.

Officials are now waiting for the results of a second test, which if positive would make the nurse the first patient to have been infected with the virus outside west Africa.

The nurse was part of the team attending to a Spanish missionary with Ebola who was repatriated two weeks ago. The 69-year-old missionary, Manuel García Viejo, died just four days after being brought to Madrid’s Carlos III hospital.

The not-for-profit community improvement organization started its 47th year this fall. The organization works to solve the “big-picture” items which make the Lower Eastern Shore a better place to live and work. In an effort to stop the Brain Drain from the area and to build high-paying jobs, GSC helped create the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops and then helped bring Orbital Sciences the $1.9 billion contract to re-supply the International Space Station.

GSC has created and helped create many other organizations to handle specific needs in the area including the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, the Delmarva Water Transport Committee, Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services, Wor-Wic Community College, Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore and others in addition to saving Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore from closing.

The Greater Salisbury Community believes community leadership is important to a quality area and has built leadership in many areas. Since 2002, the Academy for Leadership in Education has graduated nearly 300 educational leaders. A Civic and Governmental Leadership Academy was created to better educate our citizens and political leaders on how to more effectively govern. Earlier, the Organize, Unite, and Revitalize Leadership Program a minority leadership program worked to increase the leadership skills of all community potential leaders.

How Gangs Took Over Prisons

Originally formed for self-protection, prison gangs have become the unlikely custodians of order behind bars—and of crime on the streets.

On a clear morning this past February, the inmates in the B Yard of Pelican Bay State Prison filed out of their cellblock a few at a time and let a cool, salty breeze blow across their bodies. Their home, the California prison system’s permanent address for its most hardened gangsters, is in Crescent City, on the edge of a redwood forest—about four miles from the Pacific Ocean in one direction and 20 miles from the Oregon border in the other. This is their yard time.

Most of the inmates belong to one of California’s six main prison gangs: Nuestra Familia, the Mexican Mafia, the Aryan Brotherhood, the Black Guerrilla Family, the Northern Structure, or the Nazi Lowriders (the last two are offshoots of Nuestra Familia and the Aryan Brotherhood, respectively). The inmates interact like volatile chemicals: if you open their cells in such a way as to put, say, a lone member of Nuestra Familia in a crowd of Mexican Mafia, the mix can explode violently. So the guards release them in a careful order.

“Now watch what they do,” says Christopher Acosta, a corrections officer with a shaved head who worked for 15 years as a front-line prison guard and now runs public relations for Pelican Bay. We are standing with our backs to a fence and can see everything.

No Justice Department Charges Against Ohio Woman Who Voted Six Times for Obama

Last week Al Sharpton embraced convicted vote fraudster Melowese Richardson at a “voting rights” rally in Cincinnati. The United States Department of Justice under Eric Holder has done nothing to Melowese Richardson 410 days after she admitted on camera that she committed multiple federal felonies by voting six times for President Obama’s reelection.

Federal law makes it a felony to vote more than once for President. In fact, 42 U.S.C. Section 1973i(e) subjects Richardson to twenty-five years in federal prison for her six votes for Obama.

The lack of DOJ action against an unrepentant federal vote fraudster combined with Richardson’s lionization by Sharpton and the organization that sponsored the rally demonstrates how the Justice Department is facilitating a culture of brazen criminality on the eve of the 2014 midterm elections. The failure to indict Richardson is the latest example of Holder’s department excusing lawlessness in federal elections and abandoning law abiding Americans.

Obama's Economy Is Creating Too Many Low-Paying Job

Despite another seemingly good jobs report, President Obama's approval rating is lower than a snake's belly, and Republicans could retake the Senate in November.

Missteps in the Ukraine, Iraq and elsewhere weigh on voters' minds, but the economy — especially the jobs picture — is not what Obama cracks them up to be.

The 5.9 percent unemployment rate is a fraud. The percentage of adults working or seeking employment is the lowest since women began entering the labor force in larger numbers in the 1970s.

Were the labor force participation rate the same today as when Obama took office, unemployment would be about 10 percent. Wages remain stagnant and household incomes are well below pre-crisis levels.
