Congratulations Congressman-Elect Kratovil

Congratulations Frank Kratovil.  At noon today, Maryland Sen. Andy Harris stood before the Wicomico County Courthouse and announced that he had spoken with Frank Kratovil earlier today and congratulated him on his election to the US House.

Beginning his remarks with words of thanks to our veterans, past and present, Harris wished Kratovil and his family well as he began the task of representing Maryland's First District in Congress.  Harris stated that this campaign was a (sometimes heated) debate over the issues facing America, Maryland and the District.  While the election was close, the voters had spoken.

Harris reminded us of his parents' flight from communism in search of liberty.  Where else but America could a child of immigrants grow up to become a physician, serve in the state legislature and seek election to Congress?

As a fierce Harris partisan, I too wish Mr. Kratovil and his family well on their new journey.  While I expect that there will be severe, and even heated, disagreement over issues during the next two years I am obligated to acknowledge that Frank Kratovil fought a hard race.  He waged a good campaign.

I want to also thank Andy Harris for waging a campaign based on conservative principles.  While Frank Kratovil and his family will be in the prayers of Andy Harris and his family, both the Harris and Kratovil families will be in the prayers of both myself and my family.

Two Young Students Arrested Moments Ago In Salisbury

Two High School Students were arrested just moments ago on Rt. 50 on their way home in a School Bus. A fight broke out between this young man and young woman over a cell phone, believe it or not. With the Crisfield incident earlier this morning and now Wicomico County, our children are sure keeping the State Police and Sheriff's Departments quite busy. Young people sometimes make stupid choices but I'd bet big money these two will be friends again tomorrow. Hopefully we'll see a Press Release some time tomorrow with the full details.

GANNETT CONTINUES TO SLIDE

This just in. Once again Gannett's stock price slid within striking distance of their all time record low. The stock price of GCI went as low as $9.08/Share today before ending slightly higher.
Their all time record low was set a few weeks ago when their stock price dropped to $8.49/Share. If the market continues its downward trend, Gannett might set a new record low within the next day or so. Just how low will Gannett go - who knows.

FREEDOM is NOT FREE

Last night I attended a program at Mardela Middle and High School for Veterans. This is the 6th year that Mardela has put this program on. For the first five years, Mrs. Annette Henry put on the program and then she retired. For this year, she came out of retirement to once again put on a very special program that all veterans and attendees enjoyed as it touched us all.

Special guests that attended, greeted veterans and their families and said some kind words were Mrs. Guthrerie from the Cambridge Veteran's Outpatient clinic, Delegate Eckardt, Senator Colburn, and James A Adkins, Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Maryland. All of these guests shared some special stories and their connections to veterans that have fought in all of the wars from World War I, through the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Mardela Middle High School Concert Choir led by Mr Jeffrey Baer led the audience with the National Anthem, and finished the program with "United We Stand" and "In Flanders Field". The presentation of the flag and the pledge of allegiance was wonderfully put on by the Junior ROTC. A wonderful assortment of "Musical Memories from WWII" was performed by the Mardela Middle High School Symphonic Band led by Mr Corey Boltz. My Boltz, playing trumpet and Mr. Baer, playing piano, then played their rendition of "God Bless America". Ending the program was Taylor Burns, senior Trumpet, playing "Taps".

Refreshments followed and I was able to speak to Senator Colburn and introduce him to my daughter Allison who he thanked for helping work the phones for the Andy Harris campaign.

The theme once again was Freedom is not Free which every American who ever served in the armed forces, and their families know first hand. When all the parades are over, when the marching bands stop playing, the veterans have to try and get back to a life that they will never be able to reclaim. The sights that are emblazoned in our eyes, the sounds that ring in our ears, the smells of death and suffering will always be their. Veterans live with memories that most people can't imagine. Usually by the time our veterans are 25, they have seen more, heard more, and smelled more death then anyone will ever go through their entire lives.

We live with those memories and we try our very hardest not to let these things affect the ones we love the most. We may get angry easier than most people, we may not be as friendly, and we may like to be by ourselves, but it is not because of anything that you have done. It is the price that we have paid to give you the freedoms that we all enjoy.

I thank Mardela Middle and High School for the wonderful program, I thank the special guests for the kind words and support, and I thank God that I was able to serve my country and do my small part to help our country remain strong and free and the example of what is good in our world. May God Bless us all!

Number One:

"We have had a large fancy white Chrysler with Virginia tags parked on N. Pinehurst, coming and going day & night. Actually, there are two identical white cars with Virginia tags. The one starting with ZDD is frequenting the brick house on N. Pinehurst - 506. The other starting with K is visiting the house at 504 SOUTH Pinehurst with all of the play equipment in the yard across from the school. This has been going on for about 3 weeks. XXXXXX
asked him why he was parking across the street from us, and he stated he did not want his wife to see it because she was attending a meeting at Pinehurst School, and he moved the vehicle. The neighbors have seen him come & go all night. He is average black man, with low cap & baggy pants. Car may not be his.
"It is important that if we see cars not belonging in the neighborhood, to ask our neighbors if they know whom might it belong to."

Number Two:
On October 2, 2008 at approximately 12:30 AM, a resident of Pinehurst Ave (near the campus of Salisbury University) observed a man peeping into her bedroom window.

The man was described as an "older" white male, approximately 5'9" tall, with balding hair. He wore large dark rimmed glasses and a polo shirt.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Salisbury Police Department at (410)548-3165, or the Salisbury University Police Department at (410)543-6222.

It's been reported to Salisbury police that several cars were broken into early this morning (the latest being at about 7:30) in the 700 and 800 blocks of Camden Avenue. All of the cars were parked in the owners' driveways. At least one vehicle was unlocked. Theft occurred in at least two of the break-ins. One victim saw the perpetrator in their vehicle and called police, describing the individual as follows:

5' 9" - 5' 10"
180 pounds
Brown hat
Brown jacket

If you have seen an individual fitting this description in or near the Camden neighborhood, please call the Salisbury Police Department at 410-749-5151.

To minimize the possibility of similar events occurring, all are urged to never leave their keys in their vehicles and to lock their car doors every time they leave their vehicles.

The Mayoral Race Is Heating Up

"I am excited that the field of candidates is growing in the mayor's race. On Saturday, November 15, 2008, 1:30 PM, at Chef Fred's in Salisbury, I will put forward my vision, steeped in the experience of being a neighborhood activist, as to what we can do as a community to revitalize our city. Andy Harris Conceds To Frank Kratovil

Senator Andy Harris has conceded to Congressman Elect Frank Kratovil in Maryland's 1st District Race.



While this was a tough campaign for both parties, final votes were within 1% of one and other and could call for an automatic recount.



I want to personally congratulate Frank Kratovil and his entire Staff for a well run campaign. It may not have been pretty but he got the job done and that's all that counts.

Everyone is at the Court House in Downtown Salisbury as we speak with quite a few of his supporters throughout his Campaign. I will follow up shortly with the formal outcome of this gathering and Andy's intentions in the future.

Obama Will Begin To "RULE" On Day One

The co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, Valerie Jarrett, appeared on Meet the Press this weekend and used, shall we say, an interesting word to described what she thinks Barack Obama will be doing in January when he's officially sworn into office. She told Tom Brokaw that Obama will be ready to "rule" on day one. It's a word that reflects the worst fears that people have for Obama the "arrogant," the
"messiah," that imagines he's here to "rule" instead of govern.

Jarret told Brokaw that "given the daunting challenges that we face, it's important that president elect Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."

Pure Disgust With The Daily Slime

"Joe,

This morning I was reading The Daily Times online because I refuse to pay for their paper. The first story I read was an article in regards to the fatal accident involving a mother and her 4 young children. The two vehicles in the accident burst into flames, a total of six people perished. I'd like to think when a news organization submits a story for publication that the editor would take into consideration how the family and friends of the victims would feel.

In the article they had a comment stated by a bystander of the accident, I'm quoting what he said; "I basically hung out and watched them burn."

Why on Earth would The Daily Times feel the need to publish such a comment? That comment was published with total disregard to the family of the victims. That comment is uncalled for and should have never been published.

My guess is that the Daily Slime is doing anything they can to change more towards a Blog than an old school newspaper. However, they don't know how to do it and it will be a trial and error period until things get somewhat better. No one like change and IMHO I believe they'll fold. Times will tell. That's a sad story though.

My Name is Kim Heath and I want to begin by telling you that I am one of those who love ya.

I need your help in getting the word out about a group I have started. It is a group for Singles called "Single Mingle". I want to tell you that I do work for The Fountains as a Administrative Assistant, but they do not put this on. I have tried to organize and put it together for area singles ages 40 - 60's. The Fountains sponsors us by allowing me to use a room to hold this at no charge & provides Thank goodness because then it would never of happened. We plan a date once a month and meet for Speed Dating, Dancing, Music by Freddy Burch, Hors d'oeuvres' & a Cash Bar.

We like people to RSVP at 410-749-5445, and then it will be $20.00 or if they show up it will be $25.00. This money pays for the DJ, Bartender, & Server that have to be there.

Major Fight At Crisfield High

There was a HUGE fight at Crisfield High this morning. Crisfield Police, the Sheriff's Department AND the State Police were brought in. There were at least 5 people arrested.

Veteran’s Day Ceremony To Be Held At the Wicomico County War Memorial

(Salisbury, MD) The Wicomico War Memorial Committee invites the community to join them in honoring our military veterans at a ceremony on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 11:00am. The ceremony will take place at the Wicomico County War Memorial located directly in front of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center at 500 Glen Avenue in Salisbury, MD 21804. In the case of rain, the ceremony will be moved inside the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center.

Local branches of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and Ladies’ Auxiliary will take part in the ceremony, which is being coordinated by the Wicomico County War Memorial Committee. Members of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department and the JROTC will also participate. The community is invited to attend.

Veteran’s Day, initially termed Armistice Day, was created to honor World War I veterans and celebrate the official ending of the First World War which occurred on November 11, 1918. After both World War II and the Korean War and at the urging of veterans service associations, Armistice Day was changed to Veteran’s Day and became a time to honor all American veterans of wars.

The Wicomico War Memorial at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center is a fitting location for this ceremony as the Civic Center is itself a living war memorial to all veterans. At the outside Wicomico War Memorial, flags from each service branch, along with a United States, Maryland, Wicomico County and the POW-MIA flag now proudly fly over a brick wall displaying bronze plagues with the 187 names of Wicomico County’s fallen veterans from World War II and beyond. Dr. Gittleman...What's Up With Your Attitude?

A Letter to the Editor:

"Does anyone know Dr. Gittleman (or Dr. G as he likes to refer to himself)? OMG, I can't believe he is still practicing medicine. He has to be the most rude person I've ever met, he has no sympathy for anyone, not that we ask for it, but every person I have met in the medical field has been compassionate to some extent....NOT HIM! I wouldn't complain, except I would like to hear other opinions. Two of my co-workers spouses were patients of his and have chosen to go elsewhere and I was at a dinner meeting Saturday evening and in final conversation his name came up and out of the ten people in our group 3 had been to him and had to find other primary care doctors. We do not have that many primary doctors in our area and should be grateful for the ones we do have but no can bare his presence. What is wrong with him? Someone please shed some light on it."

10 RULES FOR THANKSGIVING DINNER AT MY HOUSE

1. Don’t get in line asking questions about the food. “Who made the potato salad? Is it egg in there? Are the greens fresh? Is the meat in the greens turkey or pork? Who made the macaroni and cheese? What kind of pie is that? Who made it? Ask one more question and I will punch you in your mouth, knocking out all your fronts so you won’t be able to eat anything.

2. If you can’t walk walk because your leg is in a cast, sit your a$$ down until someone makes your plate for you. Dinner time is not the time for you to be independent. Nibble on them d*mn pecans and walnuts to hold you over until someone makes you a plate.

3. If you have kids under the age of twelve, I will escort their little asses to the basement and bring their food down to them. They are not gonna tear my d*mn house up this year. Tell them that they are not allowed upstairs until it’s time for Uncle Butchie to start telling family stories about their mommas and papas. If they come upstairs for any reason except for that they are bleeding to death, I will break a foot off in their a**es!

4. There is going to be one prayer for Thanksgiving dinner! JUST ONE! We do not care that you are thankful that your 13 year old daughter gave birth to a healthy baby or your nephew just got out of jail. Save that talk for somebody who gives a d*mn. The time limit for the prayer is one minute. If you are still talking after that one minute is up, you will feel something hard come across your lips and they will be swollen for approximately 20 minutes.

5. Finish everything on your plate before you go up for seconds! If you don’t, you will be cursed out and asked to stay your greedy a** home next year!

6. BRING YOUR OWN TUPPERWARE!! Don’t let me catch you fixing yourself a plate in my good Tupperware knowing d*mn well that I will never see it again! Furthermore, if you didn’t bring anything over, don’t let me catch you making a plate period or it will be a misunderstanding.

7. What you came with is what you should leave with!! Do not leave my house with anything that doesn’t belong to you. EVERYBODY WILL BE SUBJECTED TO A BODY SEARCH COMING AND GOING OUT OF MY DOMAIN!!!

8. Do not leave your kids so you can go hopping from house to house. This is not a DAYCARE CENTER! There will be a kid-parent roll call every ten minutes. Any parent that is not present at the time of roll call, your child will be put outside until you come and get him or her. After 24 hours, I will call the Dept. Of Social Services on your ignorant a**!!

9. BOOK YOUR HOTEL ROOM BEFORE YOU COME INTO TOWN!! There will be no sleeping over at my house! You are to come and eat dinner and take your a** home or to your hotel room. EVERYBODY GETS KICKED THE H*LL OUT AT 11:00 pm. You will get a 15 minute warning bell ring.

10. Last but not least! ONE PLATE PER PERSON!! This is not a soup kitchen. I am not trying to feed your family until Christmas dinner! You will be supervised when you fix your plate. Anything over the appropriate amount will be charged to you before you leave. There will be a cash register at the door. Thanks to Cousin Alfred and his greedy a** family, we now have a credit card machine! So VISA and MASTERCARD are now being accepted. NO FOOD STAMPS OR ACCESS CARDS

Change.Gov Scraps 25 Point Agenda Promises

Over the weekend Change.gov, Obamas website that outlined his position was drastically changed.
During the campaign he had a very specific detailed 25 item agenda that he promised to 'Change'.
This specific list of promises has been changed to a very vague paragraph stating his mission “to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.”
Gone are the promises on how an Obama administration would handle 25 different agenda items - everything from Iraq and immigration to taxes and urban policy - all items laid out on his campaign Web site, www.BarackObama.com.

PUT YOUR CAR KEYS BESIDE YOUR BED AT NIGHT

Tell your spouse, your children, your neighbors, your parents your, Dr's
office, the check-out girl at the market, everyone you run across.

Put your car keys beside your bed at night. If you hear a noise outside your
home or someone trying to get in your house, just press the panic button for
your car. The alarm will be set off, and the horn will continue to sound
until either you turn it off or the car battery dies.

This tip came from a neighborhood watch coordinator. Next time you come home
for the night and you start to put your keys away, think of this:

It's a security alarm system that you probably already have and requires no
installation. Test it. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house
and will keep honking until your battery runs down or until you reset it
with the button on the key fob chain. It works if you park in your driveway
or garage If your car alarm goes off when someone is trying to break into
your house, odds are the burglar rapist won't stick around... After a few
seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is
out there and sure enough the criminal won't want that. And remember to
carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can
work the same way there ..... This is something that should really be shared
with everyone. Maybe it could save a life or a sexual abuse crime.

It's Hard Losing A Friend

Joe,

A very dear friend of our family is in the hospital and in their last days on Earth. The sad thing is this all could have been avoided. However, Alcohol addiction took over their life years ago. This person is in their 40’s, young by any standard, and someone who has every reason in the world to thrive and succeed. We all think we are so strong, that we have everything under control, but let’s not be naïve. Addictions take over your life and will destroy anyone who thinks they are above it. Addictions rob you of your job, family, friends, self-respect and eventually your life.

I share this with you all for one reason. Hopefully, my friend’s battle will open the eyes of someone else. To the young people of today, I’d like to tell you Alcoholism, Drug addiction, Smoking, etc. are not inherited diseases or traits. However, “Addictive Behavior” can be. Does that mean because my father was an Alcoholic I will be? No! But it does mean I may have inherited “Addictive Behavior”. So I have to ask myself, do I want to take that chance? Is this short term “fun” really worth the risk. I can tell you it’s not! But I was young and thought I knew it all once too. Smoking, drinking, drugs, etc. all can take the life of anyone with “Addictive behavior”, and do it silently in the background. Once under “it’s spell”, it cannot be easily cured. So I say to you get "high on life!" Laughter is the best drug known to man! Nothing on Earth can make you feel better than doing something good for someone in need. Choose these types of avenues for satisfaction and if you find yourself addicted to helping others….. That’s an addiction we can all survive with on Earth.

My friend thought they were having fun in the beginning. Then they knew they didn’t have a problem, it was everyone one else who had the problem. Ironically, now things have come to the point where it is everyone else with the problem…… How will we all deal with the loss of our friend?

Food for thought for you Joe---- I ask my vet about choke collars. He does not uphold them because of the damage he has seen to dogs trachea's from improper use. My personal opinion: In the hands of a TRAINER perhaps they are OK, in the hands of the average person NO. I do believe we have to think of the animal first & foremost. There are so many irresponsible pet owners out there using them. An alternative would be a pinch collar, which was my vets suggestion also. Think about it Joe----- I know you were undecided from the last meeting.

Nails In The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound is still there."

The little boy then understood how powerful his words were. He looked up at his father and said "I hope you can forgive me father for the holes I put in you."

Van delized

For the past few weeks, I have had a van parked in front of my office, with a for sale sign displayed in the window. This weekend, it was van vandalized. It was parked directly in front of my office, facing Riverside Drive in clear view of the entire area, in the center of town. Not one, but two people picked up separate landscaping blocks that I have placed around the property and smashed them into the windshield. You can see the two smashes and the blocks lying in front of the vehicle (it makes for a delightful picture). The van was not broken into, no one tried to steal it (although we have had a different truck stolen from the premises and several break ins last year), I guess it was just a “for kicks” type of crime. Who the hell would do such a thing? It is absolutely infuriating. And to think, they are (or were) building a few hundred very upscale condos in this area, complete with residents that drive much nicer cars than my simple work van.

Today is Veteran's Day. This American holiday honors military veterans. It is also celebrated as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, Anzac Day and Volkstrauertag in other parts of the world.

The first Veteran's Day was on November 11, 1919. President Wilson proclaimed this day with the following: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing which it has freed us and because of the opportunity is has given America to show her empathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations . . . On Tuesday December 9th @ 7 p.m. join the Elementary K-6th grades. The program will feature a kindergarten class drama presentation of the Christmas story. All elementary grades will be singing songs of the season under the direction of Mr. Kevin Yoder. The highlight of the program will be the elementary grades mass choir singing all of your holiday favorites.

On Thursday December 18th @ 7 p.m. join Middle and High School grades. The program will feature the Middle School Choir, the Junior High Chorus, Senior High School Chorale, Ensemble and a combined Mass Choir under the direction of Mr. Kevin Yoder. Also featured for the evening will be the Junior and Senior High School bands doing a number of instrumental selections under the direction of Mr. Lowell Bechtel. The night will feature joyous Christmas selections for all to enjoy.

Admission is FREE. An offering will be received for a special Christmas blessing for the teachers and staff of G.M.S. The school is located at 12802 Mennonite School Road between Routes 16 & 36 just east of Greenwood.

Our award winning music department had All State band and choir members this past year. Numerous public performances are held locally and in the Mid-Atlantic area throughout the year.

This is the last weekend of the Diamond State Drive-In Theater up in Felton, as I'm sure you've heard about the situation with the property owners. This is the only drive-in left on Delmarva and for those who enjoy a good outing with the family or a date then this would be an event to remember. Salisbury Police Department Press Releases

On November 5, 2008 at approximately 3:54 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the area of E. Church St. and Anne St. for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, investigation revealed that one of the vehicles, operated by suspect # 1, intentionally struck the second vehicle during a domestic situation. Witnesses advised that suspect # 1 became upset at an occupant of the second vehicle and threatened the occupant. As the occupant attempted to leave the area with friends, suspect # 1 chased the vehicle and struck it. The driver of the second vehicle, suspect # 2, was found to be driving the vehicle without a license.

On November 5, 2008 at approximately 4:36 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the Boscov’s Department Store at the Centre at Salisbury for the report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, the officers were advised that security personnel had observed the below listed suspect attempt to take clothing from the store without making payment. The clothing was recovered and returned to the store.

On November 6, 2008 at approximately 10:10 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department received a call to respond to the area of John Street for the report of an assault and robbery. Upon arrival, officers met with a witness, and the victim, and learned that the victim had been assaulted by four (4) unknown suspects, then robbed of his wallet and change. The victim, a Hispanic male, advised that while walking on Carrolton Avenue, the suspects approached him and forced him into the backyard of a residence. The suspects then struck the victim in the head and body causing the victim to fall. Once down, the suspects took the victim’s wallet and change from his pocket and fled the area on foot. The officers obtained a physical and clothing description of the suspects from the victim and attempted to locate the suspects.

A short time period after the initial report of the incident, Officers located the suspects on South Park Drive at Memorial Parkway. The suspects were positively identified as the individuals involved in the robbery and taken into custody. A portion of the victim’s stolen property was recovered from the suspects.

On November 6, 2008 at approximately 6:36 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Walmart Department Store for the report of a shoplifter who had assaulted a Walmart employee. Upon arrival, officers were advised by security personnel that personnel had observed the below listed suspect take electronic merchandise from the store without making payment. When confronted, by security, the suspect fled from the store into the garden area of the store. The suspect then retrieved a pair of scissors to cut a tarp to aid his escape. As security caught up with the suspect, the suspect struggled with the employee and cut the employee on the hand with the scissors. The suspect was taken into custody, and the victim was transported to the Peninsula Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
