Islamic Protester Booted from Trump Rally Is Anti-Israel Activist, Promotes Radical Imams
Rose Hamid, an Islamic protester who made headlines when she was removed from a Donald Trump rally in South Carolina Friday night and attempted to position herself as a victim of ‘Islamophobia’ thereafter, has a history rife with extremist advocacy.
In a CNN article titled, “Silently protesting Muslim woman ejected from Trump rally,” Hamid, 56, is described as an innocent “flight attendant” who came to the rally in hopes that Trump supporters could better understand Muslims. When the Republican frontrunner started to discuss the refugee situation in Syria and President Obama’s policies in the region, a group of protesters alongside Hamid started a “commotion,” the Washington Post reports. Then, the group–who were sporting provocative yellow stars reminiscent to those that Jews were forced to wear under the Third Reich–was promptly ejected from the rally.
“The ugliness really came out fast and that’s really scary,” she told CNN.
Breitbart News has learned that Hamid is not simply a “flight attendant,” but is also an Islamic activist who apologizes for Palestinian terrorism and promotes radical Imams.
As President of the Muslim Women of the Carolinas, Hamid has consistently promoted anti-Israel propaganda and has excused Palestinian jihadi terrorism as “resistance” against “occupation.”

Not today."According to Casa Linda Apartment's property manager David Bryan cheerfulness is pretty typical of his residents. "They're already all taking care of each other, so,” The building will not have power or heat for several days so the local Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Southern Hills Baptist Church.

ICE arrests 175 sexual predators in PA, WV, DE in 2015
PHILADELPHIA — More than 14 dozen criminal sexual predator aliens were deported or are facing deportation proceedings after they were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in the last year.
"With nearly two hundred sexual predator aliens out of our communities, our children are more protected, and our society is safer," said Tom Decker, ERO Philadelphia field office director. "Our deportation officers will continue to target those criminal aliens who pose the most threat to the public."
From Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2015, the 175 criminals were arrested in Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia as part of the ERO Philadelphia's focus on removing criminal aliens, both who are here illegally and who whose legal status was revoked by an immigration judge due to their crimes. These aliens are priorities for removal under the established in the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Nov. 20, 2014 memorandum entitled "Policies for the Apprehension, Detention and Removal of Undocumented Immigrants."
The arrests included a 43-year-old Dominican Republic man, Luis Rosado, who was a legal resident in the United States, but an immigration judge revoked his legal status when he solicited anal sex and sexually assaulted a child between the ages of 5 and 11.
Newt: Understanding Donald Trump
Donald Trump is a genuine phenomenon.
He may or may not become the Republican nominee for president.
He may or may not win the presidency even if he becomes the nominee.
Yet it is clear that he is a phenomenon and that any history of the 2016 presidential race will have to spend a good bit of time analyzing Mr. Trump and his impact.
From the time he announced on June 16, Mr. Trump has dominated social and mainstream media. He dominates the conversation despite the lack of paid advertising.
Mr. Trump says outrageous things and his supporters shrug it off. At every turn, his poll numbers continue to rise.
As a step toward understanding this amazing performance, I spent part of the Christmas break reading his first bestseller, “The Art of the Deal.”
Written in 1987, this book is a classic among American business books and has influenced a generation of entrepreneurs.
Mr. Trump wrote “The Art of the Deal” when he was 41 years old and having a successful run. The book’s popularity contributed to Time Magazine’s decision to feature Donald Trump on its cover in January 1989.
The portrait that emerges from this easy-to-read and remarkably interesting book is of an aggressive, ambitious person who is constantly pushing, constantly learning, and always seeking the next challenge.

Three Injured When Bus Overturns On I-70 In Howard Co.
(MARIOTTSVILLE, MD) – Two teenagers and an adult were transported to a hospital this afternoon after the private school bus they were riding in overturned on Interstate 70 in Howard County.
The bus driver is identified as Wilbur Randolph Jr., 71, of Baltimore, MD. He was driving a school bus for hire owned by the City Wide Bus Company in Baltimore, Md. Randolph did not report being injured.
The three passengers on the bus were Arlene S. Beverly, 53, a school aide, and two students, ages 18 and 16. All three were transported to Howard County General Hospital by ambulance. Information regarding what school they were from is not known at this time.
At about 3:30 p.m. today, troopers from the Waterloo Barrack were dispatched to eastbound Interstate 70, east of Marriottsville Road, for the report on an overturned school bus. Troopers found the bus laying on its right side in the center grass median. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The preliminary investigation indicates the driver was traveling in the fast lane of eastbound I-70 when he was cut off by another vehicle and apparently lost control of the bus. The bus overturned onto its right side in the center median.
One lane of eastbound I-70 was closed for about two hours. State Highway Administration and CHART personnel assisted with diverting traffic around the scene. The bus was removed and the scene was clear before 6:00 p.m. today.
No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is continuing.

Germany Deploys 143 Officers To Stop Migrant Rape, 1,500 Officers To Stop Anti-Rape Protest
COLOGNE, Germany: A peaceful protest turned violent in the blink of an eye today as German police turned water canon on the Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of Europe (PEGIDA) march against the rape of German girls by refugees.
The protest had been called at short notice in response to the growing public anger felt across Germany at the apparently premeditated and systematic sex assault of hundreds of girls as they parties on New Year’s Eve on Cologne and other German cities.
Despite taking place in multi-cultural west Germany, which has been the most enthusiastically accepting of Angela Merkel’s policies of mass migration and scorning of traditional values over 3,000 took part — a record for an anti-migration march in this part of the country.
The demonstration started with speeches and socialising among those attending, an event that stood in strong contrast to the deafening and chaotic leftist counter demonstration just yards away.
PEGIDA has long prided itself on taking the moral high ground against their hard-left detractors and set out to maintain that reputation today. Loudspeakers announced alcohol, glass bottles, and face-coverings were banned.

Town of Ocean City Offering Ocean Front and Ocean Side Residents Plants for Secondary Dune Area
Ocean City, Maryland –: For the tenth year in a row, the Town of Ocean City will be offering beach district plants to the public for planting in the secondary dune area. The plants being offered are hardy plants that tolerate the harsh environment of the ocean front areas. In addition, these plants provide habitat enhancement, food and shelter, water quality treatment and erosion control to the secondary dune area, which tends to be overlooked and is in need of attention.
“We began this program to help create habitat and prevent erosion of the area behind the dune which was in need of attention,” said Town of Ocean City Environmental Engineer Gail Blazer. “The plants are very beneficial to the stability of the dune system and help with erosion and scour. Our residents and property owners love the program and it benefits the environment and the beach, so it is a win for everyone.”
Ocean front and ocean side residents will have the opportunity to order plants that will need to be picked up at a predetermined date and time. Suitable plants to add to a secondary dune area include beach grass, bayberry, rugosa rose, beach plum, high tide bush, red cedar and panic grass. Applications are now being accepted, however, the deadline for all applications is February 20.
For more information or to receive and application, please contact Gail Blazer in the Town’s Engineering Department at (410) 289-8825 or email gblazer@oceancitymd.gov. Also, more information is provided by visiting http://oceancitymd.gov/oc/departments/engineering/environment/.
Marijuana dispensaries save lives, new study shows
The United States has a problem with painkillers. During the past 15 years, America has seen a tremendous growth in both the sales of prescription opiates and the number of people who die each year from abusing them. More than 16,000 people fatally overdosed on prescription painkillers in 2013, accounting for 60% of all overdose deaths, according to the Center for Disease Control. But anew study suggests that some states have already stumbled onto a means of curbing this fatal epidemic: Easily-accessible marijuana.
For the study, researchers from the RAND Corporation and the University of California-Irvine (UCI) examined whether, in the years following legalization, states that legalized marijuana had experienced reductions in fatal overdoses and addiction treatment center admissions relating to opioid abuse. The researchers found that these states experienced significant reductions in both measures of opioid misuse — but only if they had also legalized marijuana dispensaries.

Syrian Refugee Among First Lady’s Guests For State Of Union
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Syrian scientist stricken with cancer and seeking a new start for his family in Michigan will represent Syrian refugees as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama for the president’s final State of the Union address.
President Barack Obama has committed to accepting an additional 10,000 Syrian refugees, but some Republican lawmakers and presidential candidates are critical of the expansion. Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, for example, noted the recent arrest of two Iraqi refugees. During an interview with CNN that aired Sunday, Cruz emphasized that they came to the United States “using the same vetting that President Obama wants us to trust with Syrian refugees.”
Refaai Hamo, his son and three daughters landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport in December, anxious to rebuild their lives. Hamo fled to Turkey from Syria after a missile attack killed his wife and one other daughter. He was profiled on the popular photo blog Humans of New York as “The Scientist.”

Franchot Pledges Regulation Of Fantasy Sports Sites
When lawmakers begin their session in Annapolis on Wednesday there is the possibility that lawmakers may ban daily fantasy sports sites, after officials in New York ordered Draft Kings and Fan Duel to shut down operations there.
The Baltimore Sun recently reported that former Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director Stephen Martino has been hired as a lobbyist for the websites.
Senate President Mike Miller told The Daily Record’s Bryan Sears, he felt the sites were in violation of the Maryland constitution, which requires any expansion of gambling to be approved by voters.
Comptroller Peter Franchot told Maryland’s News This Week that a 2014 law made these sites legal, and puts his office in charge of regulating them.

Netanyahu 'Fighting Obama's Plan to be UN Secretary-General'
Kuwaiti newspaper A Jarida reported Friday that US President Barack Obama seeks to be appointed UN secretary general after his second term as US president ends. The newspaper claimed that Obama has been discussing the idea with senior Democrats and Republicans, some of whom are Jewish.
The report, which admittedly appears somewhat far-fetched, has not been confirmed by any other news outlets and does not name any of its sources. It adds that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has learned of Obama's aspirations and that he is opposing them, supposedly telling people he spoke to: "Is it not enough that we have had to live through eight years of Obama's rule, in which he ignored Israel? Now he wants to be in a position to cause us difficulty in the international arenas?"
The newspaper cites what it says are sources close to Netanyahu as allegedly saying that "Obama is the worst president for Israel, the Middle East and Israel's allies – the moderate Arab states."
A Netanyahu confidant reportedly said that Netanyahu intends to scuttle the "Obama project" of being appointed UN Secretary General, and noted that Obama's term in office has been characterized by a closeness to the Muslim Brotherhood, the toppling of Hosni Mubarak's regime in Egypt, and attempts to forge alliances with political Islam.

School, School System, Law Enforcement Work
Closely to Ensure School Safety
Parkside High School was one of many schools in the tri-state region that received an automated call with a bomb threat on the morning of Monday, Jan. 11. School personnel immediately notified law enforcement and an investigation was conducted. While the automated bomb threat was found not to be credible, a thorough search of the building and grounds was conducted to ensure the safety of students and staff as the school day continued. The Wicomico County Board of Education and Wicomico County Public Schools place the highest priority on the providing a safe learning environment, and appreciate the support of the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in this effort.Parkside Principal Kimberly Pinhey informed parents and guardians of the incident in a SchoolMessenger call this afternoon:
“This morning we received a robotic call to our main office indicating there was a bomb in the building. Police were notified immediately and standard procedures were followed. Although it was determined that this was a non-credible threat, the building and grounds were searched systematically in cooperation with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department and the Wicomico Board of Education to ensure our building continues to be safe and secure.
Please know that the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate this situation and identify the person(s) responsible for the threat. Upon identification of the person(s) responsible the maximum penalty will be imposed by Wicomico County Board of Education and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department.
We are disheartened by this threat to the safety of our staff and students and the disruption of our school. We will continue to provide a safe place for our staff to work and our students to learn and grow. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to accomplish this goal at Parkside.
If you have any questions, concerns or information, please contact me at 410-677-5143.”

What They Are Saying: Governor Hogan’s FY 17 Fiscal Update is Music to the Ears of Many Marylanders
What They Are Saying ...
Governor Hogan's FY 17 Fiscal Update “delivers on all [his] promises,” “makes sense,” and is “music to the ears of many Marylanders”
____________________________________________________________________________________
____________________________________________________________________________________
The Washington Post Editorial Board: “The fact that 83 percent of state spending is formulaically mandated is, as Mr. Hogan pointed out, unsustainable.” (Editorial, “Maryland’s budget autopilot,” The Washington Post, 1/9/2016)
- “There is a sensible argument to be made for trimming spending when state revenue falls or fails to meet projections. It was the absence of the flexibility to do so, in the last decade, that contributed to a massive structural deficit and, later, sharp tax increases as formulas dictated ambitious spending targets, especially on public schools."
- "In the last election, Mr. Hogan’s victory was built partly on many Marylanders’ conviction that they are overtaxed.”
- "Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was elected on promises to cut taxes and nudge the state toward a more business-friendly posture by restraining spending."
- "[H]e’s pushing an agenda in line with those promises, to predictable howls of overreaction from the Democrats who control Annapolis."
The Baltimore Sun Editorial Board: “[I]t's by no means unreasonable for him to have brought up the idea of tying mandated spending increases to state revenue growth.” (Editorial, “Hogan and taxes,” The Baltimore Sun, 1/8/2016)
- “Mr. Brown said in his endorsement interview with The Sun in 2014 that, if elected, he would do exactly the same.”
The Carroll County Times Editorial Board: “Hogan was elected to rein in spending and so far that's exactly what he's done. His approval ratings across the state, high even among registered Democrats, seem to indicate Marylanders want to see more of the same. Democrats would be wise to keep this in mind as the session reconvenes on Wednesday.”(Editorial, “Keep chipping away at state deficit,” The Capital Gazette, 1/9/2016)
- “Gov. Larry Hogan's sneak peek at his budget this past week, ahead of the 2016 legislative session, in which he indicates that he plans to cut taxes and pay down debt was likely music to the ears of many Marylanders and Carroll Countians who think spending has been out of control at the state level over the years…”
- “In particular, Hogan is proposing cuts only take place when mandated spending outpaces state revenue. That makes sense — if you're trying to pay down debt, you shouldn't be spending more than you're bringing in.”
- “State Democrats, who routinely panned Hogan's announcement Thursday, painted a picture of doom and gloom… But realistically, the tax cuts Hogan is promising equate to roughly half a percent each year over the next five, and we already know any state education funding already promised [will] be delivered.”
- “Hogan recognizes there's only so much he'll be able to get passed with a Democrat-controlled legislature. Aiming small and chipping away seems like the most prudent choice rather than seeking deeper cuts which will only further the political divide.”

(THE UNITED WEST) Tom Trento, executive producer of the new movie “Fallen Angel – The Cover-up of the Shoot-Down of SEAL Team Six” which investigates the deaths of 30 U.S. special forces units in Afghanistan (the largest single day loss of life of SEALs in U.S. History), interviews retired U.S. Navy Admiral James “Ace” Lyons, the former commander-in-chief U.S. Pacific Fleet.
Lyons states the shoot-down of SEAL Team SIX was a “dereliction of duty” and further states that the Obama-Clinton restrictive rules of engagement also directly led to the deaths of 30 of our nations finest warriors.
According to Don Brown, former U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General officer and author of“Call Sign Extortion 17 – the Shoot-Down of SEAL Team Six“ states that under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, dereliction of duty in wartime situations is an extremely serious charge and is punishable by death.

Court mulls disclosure of abortion clinic applicant names
BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland’s top court is hearing arguments on state officials’ refusal to disclose the names of applicants for abortion clinic licenses.
One issue for the Court of Appeals on Monday is whether the mere risk that disclosure might jeopardize the safety of clinic owners is enough to justify the government secrecy.
Attorney General Brian Frosh argues that releasing the names would force applicants, their families and their patients to live in “a climate of fear.”

Can Republicans Take On Poverty?
House Speaker Paul Ryan wants to give anti-poverty legislation a prominent spot on the Republican agenda in 2016, a move that would give the party ownership of a traditionally Democratic issue and put it prominently in the congressional spotlight for the first time in decades.
Republicans last took the lead on welfare reform two decades ago and hope to do it again this year, kicking off the effort at a major anti-poverty forum Saturday in Columbia, S.C., hosted by Ryan and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
In addition to Ryan and Scott, most of the GOP presidential candidates plan to jump off the campaign trail to participate, with the notable exception of front-runner Donald Trump.
"The high level of candidate interest indicates that our party is not willing to concede this issue to the Democrats," Ryan said Friday in a Wall Street Journal op-ed co-authored with Scott. "We see Saturday's forum as our party's chance to stop carping from the cheap seats and to get into the driver's seat. By offering real solutions, Republicans can define the proper role of the federal government in the 21st century and show the country what a true opportunity agenda looks like."
House Republicans say they like the idea of taking on poverty.
"It's a really smart thing to do," Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., told the Washington Examiner. "There needs to be a Republican way to address everything from poverty to unequal income distribution, and if there's a way to find that way and package it in a way that is intellectually coherent and politically appealing, I think Ryan is the person to do it."

Alexander: The "New" Democratic Party
[ Originally published March 10, 2011 ]
Paraphrasing the esteemed classical liberal economist, Friedrich von Hayek, Future Freedom Foundation President Jacob Hornberger wrote, “There is no difference in principle, between the economic philosophy of Nazism, socialism, communism, and fascism and that of the American welfare state and regulated economy.”
Not only is there little distinction between Soviet and German socialist systems of the 20th century, but there is no consequential distinction between Marxist Socialism, Nationalist Socialism, or the most recent incarnation of this beast, Democratic Socialism. The objective of socialism by any name, is to replace Rule of Law with the rule of men, and the terminus of this transformation is tyranny.
The once-noble American Democrat Party is no more.
Vladimir Lenin wrote of the application of Marxism in Russia, “Marx said that the revolutionary dictatorship of the proletariat lies between capitalism and communism [Read: "socialism”]. He noted, “Political institutions are a superstructure resting on an economic foundation,” and that foundation must be destroyed in order to bring down those institutions.
Following the Marxis-Leninist models, in Adolf Hitler’s 1925 autobiography “Mein Kampf,” he wrote of his Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (National Socialist German Workers' Party or NAZI), “The party should not become a constable of public opinion, but must dominate it. It must not become a servant of the masses, but their master.” On the the socialist state versus individual Liberty, he wrote, “The unity of a nation’s spirit and will are worth far more than the freedom of the spirit and will of an individual; and that the higher interests involved in the life of the whole must here set the limits and lay down the duties of the interests of the individual.”

One Week Since Migrant Attacks, Another Teenage Girl Hospitalized By Gang
COLOGNE, Germany – A young woman had to receive emergency medical treatment after being pushed down the Cologne Cathedral steps this afternoon, just yards away from where hundreds were molested and assaulted by migrants gangs on New Year’s Eve.
The latest attack, which took place in broad daylight is an embarrassing indication of the failure of Cologne police to secure even their central business district from migrant criminals in the wake of the new year’s eve attacks.
The group of teenagers, aged between 18 and 20 years old were climbing the cathedral steps at approximately 1230 when they were approached by a gang of migrant women. Cologne’s Express reports the gang “went mad” at the girls and chased them, pushing one of the girls down the stone steps.
She received emergency medical treatment at the scene for her injuries and her “shocked” friends were taken to a police station. There have been no reports of arrests linked to the incident.

Shooter of Philadelphia Cop Described As Quiet, Devout Muslim
The gunman who claimed allegiance to Islamic State after shooting a Philadelphia police officer was described by people who knew him as a devout, quiet Muslim who became more "combative" after trips to Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
As police charged Edward Archer on Saturday with attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault of a law enforcement officer, investigators continued to examine what prompted the 30-year-old construction worker to open fire on a police car. Two people who knew him described a pious man who began expressing interest in Islam in his teenage years and devoted his life to religion. He participated in a local Muslim football league and worked on construction jobs, they added.
They said they did not understand why, at nearly midnight on Thursday, he approached officer Jesse Hartnett, 33, and fired 11 rounds, some at point-blank range, through the car window. Three shots struck the officer in his arm. Archer later confessed to the attack and said he pledged allegiance to Islamic State, police said. FBI Special Agent Eric Ruona said Archer had traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2011 and Egypt in 2012 - a trip that a family friend said changed him.

Migrant Invasion Will Reach OVER 10 MILLION Warns German Minister
Europe has barely even seen the start of the migrant influx, Germany’s Development Minister has warned.
Gerd Müller said only 10 per cent of Syrian and Iraqi migrants have reached Europe so far and “eight to ten million are still on the way”, with even more to come from Africa.
“The biggest movements are ahead: Africa’s population will double in the coming decades,” he told Bild am Sonntag, adding: “In the Sahara up to one million people have died trying to escape.”
The European Commission, he added, has lost a significant amount of authority thanks to the crisis. “The protection of external borders is not working. Schengen has collapsed. A fair distribution of refugees has not taken place,” he said.
He said that in the digital age we live in, more people than ever know about the prosperity of Western nations thus making it more likely they will try to travel here.
He also called for a 10 billion euro “Marshall Plan”, with European states paying to rebuild war torn countries such as Iraq, Syria and Libya. “All states must pay, especially those that receive no refugees,” he warned.

Over 100,000 Muslim Foreign Students at U.S. Universities, Not Vetted
Over the fifteen year period since the terrorist attacks of 2001, the number of foreign students enrolled in American colleges and universities increased 72 percent.
During this same period, the number of students from Saudi Arabia grew by 1,000 percent and the number from the 19 nations of the Middle East and North Africa more than tripled.
Should we be concerned about the rapidly expanding Muslim foreign student population at our universities? Should we assume that since Saudi Arabia is an ally in the region, its students will be immune to jihadist recruitment? Have we forgotten that a majority of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis, not Syrians, Sudanese, or Egyptians?
It’s true that among the top ten nations sending foreign students to the U.S., Saudi Arabia ranks only fourth behind China, India and South Korea.

U.S Gives Illegal Immigrants “Severe Weather” Amnesty for Recent Floods
Always on the prowl for opportunities to grant illegal immigrants reprieve, the Obama administration is capitalizing on the recent floods to reward undocumented aliens in the affected regions with a special “severe weather immigration relief.”
The measure was recently announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agency—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)—that oversees lawful immigration to the United States. It appears that in the last few years USCIS has been preoccupied with shielding illegal aliens who may not be candidates for the president’s broader executive amnesty initiatives from deportation. Judicial Watch hasreported on this extensively over the years, publishing articles on the administration’s special hurricane, earthquake and Ebola amnesty programs.
Now we have “severe weather” amnesty for those who live in the Southern and Midwestern United States. Massive flooding has battered the region and rivers from Texas to Illinois have surged out of control. At least 31 flood-related deaths have been reported, mostly in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Illinois and Missouri and thousands have been evacuated. Undoubtedly it’s a dire situation that clearly deserves emergency help from the federal government. But extending special immigration rights seems like a bit much, though. The administration appears to be getting incredibly creative as it finds new reasons to shield immigrants from deportation.

3 'Radical' Associates of Philly Terror Suspect Still At Large
Philadelphia police have been told that three "radical" associates of a self-proclaimed ISIS-inspired gunman who attacked a cop Thursday were still at large and that "the threat to police is not over," according to a published report.
A law enforcement source told Fox News that city police and the FBI were investigating the tip, which came from a woman who stopped an officer on the street Saturday night.
The Philadelpha Inquirer reported Sunday that the woman told police that Edward Archer, who allegedly shot and wounded Officer Jesse Hartnett while the officer sat in his patrol car, had associations with three other men, all of whom were more "radical" than Archer.
The Inquirer, citing police sources, reported that the tipster warned that the three men all frequented an area near where Hartnett was shot and warned police to be careful.

A Man of Many Faces
By Thornton Crowe
In his lifetime, David Bowie cultivated many friends that became his extended family – both musically and personally. He inspired musicians all over the world with his persistence and audacious approach to life and music in ways very few have achieved before or since. He often played a pinnacle part in defining people's life soundtracks. His history in music began in 1962 and spanned the decades all the way up to his death with the current release of, Blackstar, ironically released on his 69th birthday on January 8, 2016. He fought liver cancer for the last eighteen months but continued to live his passion with his music to the very end!
Becoming recognized in the Seventies, his artistic reputation first began with his flare to create characters with his stage personas, the Thin White Duke to an alien, Ziggy Stardust. In the Eighties, he moved into a new era, reinventing himself in unison with changing times with Let’s Dance and Blue Jean. His crisp look and stark white hair won a new generation of fans with the advent of MTV and music videos. In the Nineties and beyond, David adopted an organic persona more true to his real personality and created music with many contemporaries whose coupling, while seemingly unlikely, worked to generate more hits. Hence, he never shied away from trying new genres, people and experiences.
Producing twenty-seven records, nine live albums and participating in many compilations, David worked (and inspired) with many talented artists like Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. He crashed through barriers that customarily pigeonhole artists and put his own touch into everything he did while embracing the technological age.
Most forget this but he was also a very talented actor, acting in movies like Absolute Beginners andLabyrinth. Additionally, he made his Broadway debut in The Elephant Man, a part that garnered him many accolades for his acting abilities.
Whether you’re a fan or not, his innovation made changes seldom duplicated and his spirit lends to us a real ‘hero’ and mentor. Above all, in spite of his life in the entertainment eye, he was notorious for being a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Both the man and his colossal talent will be missed as he left us way too soon. Rest In Peace.
EPA, FDA Stocking Up On Body Armor
As the U.S. engages in a national debate over the militarization of the police, federal data shows that government agencies charged with largely administrative roles are spending tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to purchase SWAT and military-style equipment.
Since FY 2006, 44 traditionally administrative agencies have spent over $71 million on items like body armor, riot helmets and shields, cannon launchers and police firearms and ammunition, according to federal spending data from watchdog group OpenTheBooks.com.
This comes in addition to the $330 million spent on such equipment in that period by traditional law enforcement agencies like the FBI, Secret Service and Drug Enforcement Administration.

ABOUT THAT “SEX LOBBYING” LAW
SHOULD LAWMAKERS HAVE TO DISCLOSE WHEN THEY HAVE SEX WITH LOBBYISTS?
There are three types of lobbyists: Those who get ahead on the strength of their issues and arguments … those who sleep their way to the top … and those who do a little of both.
We know lobbyists at the state and federal level who fall into all three categories …
It’s been said that everything is about sex … expect sex, which is about power.
But what about “power sex” – i.e. lobbyists who sleep with lawmakers (or other government officials) in an effort to get them to vote (or rule) a certain way? Should such arrangements be disclosed?
That’s the subject of a proposed Missouri law …

OC eatery loses wage case for failure to pay overtime
OC Abbey LLC, the local arm of the business operating Abbey Burger Bistros, has agreed to pay Travis Betz, of Rockville, more than $10,200 for back wages, liquidated damages and attorney’s fees for unpaid overtime.
Betz claimed in court documents, and District Judge J. Frederick Motz agreed, that the 126th Street restaurant violated the Fair Labor Standards Act and Maryland’s wage and hour law when it paid Betz straight time as a cook, regardless of how many hours he worked.
According to court documents, Betz performed manual labor in the Bistro’s kitchen during the statue of limitations period, which is the last three years. Betz said he worked at the restaurants from June 2013 to July 2014.

Making a Murderer and the President Pardon Retort
By Abigail Bailey
While I published as a comment under another thread here on Salisbury News, I wanted to republish it to clarify why a pardon would not be feasible for Avery and Dassey’s cases.
Repost (Edited):
The long short of it is, Ken Katz (the special prosecutor for Calumet County) publicized the investigation during its infancy. He ruled out any other 'potentials' before other suspects could even be interviewed or checked out. He participated in extreme posturing by stating before a newscast, "If you are under the age of 16, please do not watch this broadcast..." (This tactic wasn't even done during the Simpson/Brown-Simpson case and that investigation/trial was highly publicized due to Simpson's celebrated status in American culture.) By doing this, Katz and investigators eradicated any presumption of innocence until proven guilty, which is Avery and Dassey’s Constitution Right.
Second, Manitowoc County should not have been involved in any way in the investigation because Avery was suing them for $36M in a wrongful prosecution suit. This is a conflict of interest and should never be allowed in any criminal investigation. Period. The public was assured they were not involved, yet the documentary clearly shows this to be false. The thin blue line was ever-present here and there were 36-million reasons along with saving face to make sure Avery was convicted of a violent crime.
Third, regardless of the cat incident as a teenager - which is disturbing but not a sole indicator of future violence - Steven Avery was wrongfully prosecuted by the same Manitowoc Sheriff department - almost to the point of being framed (i.e. coping his mug shot and passing it off as the victim's description of her attacker.)
The documentary, while it left some evidence out, did bring to light what it wanted to about the case. It should inspire new trials for both Avery and Dassey due to the mishandling by Katz, the investigators (Fassbender/Wiegert), Dassey first attorney (Len Kachinsky) and the Manitowoc County Sheriff's office (Lenk/Colburn/Peterson).
Additionally, what the documentarians also provided to viewers that anyone can be falsely accused and convicted of a crime - the judicial system is far from flawless, especially when it fails to uphold laws against crimes like perjury under oath or failure follow protocols for investigating crime scenes.
A pardon is inappropriate because if these two committed the crime then they should be incarcerated. A pardon would exonerate them completely from any punishment and negate a need for the new trials they deserve given the above.
Furthermore, given this is a state matter; it is up to Scott Walker to intervene not the POTUS. It's bad enough he weighs in on every shooting; we don't need to encourage his deity complex with our judicial process.
Refugees Arrested Across USA in Terrorism Investigation
HOUSTON, Texas – An Iraqi refugee was arrested in Houston, Texas, today in connection with an alleged terrorist plot, including support to the Islamic State.
The three-count indictment charges Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan with attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State, procurement of citizenship or naturalization unlawfully, and making false statements, according to a statement from the FBI obtained by Breitbart Texas.
Al Hardan, a Palestinian born in Iraq, entered the United States as a refugee in November, 2009, the FBI stated. He was granted permanent resident status on or about August 22, 2011.
Another Iraqi has been arrested in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Bee. It was reported that the man, Aws Mohamed Younis Al-Jayab, was arrested because he lied to immigration authorities over his relationship to the Islamic State and his travel to Syria. According to the federal criminal complaint filed in California obtained by Breitbart, he emigrated from Syria to the United States.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said, in a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas, “This is precisely why I called for a halt to refugees entering the U.S. from countries substantially controlled by terrorists.”
“I once again urge the President to halt the resettlement of these refugees in the United States until there is an effective vetting process that will ensure refugees do not compromise the safety of Americans and Texans,” the governor added.

Does it feel like only 5% to YOU?
By Thornton Crowe
As the media trumps the three-month 5% unemployment numbers like it was a great accolade on behalf of the Obama camp, one finds that most people are not buying it.
Salisbury has sustained several closings and layoffs over the last year, leaving us with a rising unemployment – now up to 7% in Wicomico County. Mind you, this figure does not include the following: under-employed – part-time workers who want full-time work, benefits expired/exhausted, unqualified for unemployment insurance and jobseekers that have simply given up. One quick look on Careerbuilders.com – which tells you how many have applied for any given position – you’ll find some jobs have 300+ applicants. Yet, Day’s first bold statement is to hire a Marketing Firm for downtown rejuvenation? (Sounds a bit like looking to keep people safe from guns rather than creatively solving a bad economy.) You can’t encourage business openings when people are flat out of cash, so the question is why?
Surely, many Salisbury residents would love nothing more than to open their own businesses and be their ‘own boss’ yet, governmental red tape – local, state and federal – coupled with lack of funds and credit – it seems to be a chicken and egg syndrome in every way possible. More businesses do mean more jobs but where does one go to start a new business in a town that seems hell bent on ‘good ole boy politics’ and a government more interested in placing Band-Aids rather than real economic growth solutions?
Instead of a Marketing Firm, perhaps a more advantageous attack on Salisbury’s downtown situation is to figure out how to get businesses to open there. Meaning, how do you put money in the right hands to get a business launched and offer incentives for downtown real estate. Third Fridays – while a grand time – does not generate a month’s worth of healthy revenue stream for any business located on the plaza.
Revenue streams come from a populous that has MONEY$$ to spend beyond their basic living expenses. With a whopping 7% unemployment rate (and that’s the November 2015 stat, showing a steady increase in the prior months) and the job options shrinking with every breath, where does Day and his cronies think the citizens are going to get money to spend? This is most definitely an Economics 101 concept completely lost on most Democrats in our local government; proving once again, a clear disconnects between idealism and reality.
So, do you feel that your world in the Bury is better now than it was eight years ago? Do you feel richer? Poorer? Stat? Weigh in…
