Pawscars honor top animal actors, including prolific primate

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Honoring actors brings out red carpets, couture and — sometimes — creatures.

A monkey who's starred in 25 movies over two decades was top dog at the sixth annual Pawscars, the animal version of the Oscars. Waving a statue over her head in triumph, a beaming Crystal accepts the "lifetime diva achievement award" looking every bit the part in a pink, floor-length gown and necklace during the show streaming online Wednesday.

The Capuchin monkey, who played a Ben Stiller-slapping, key-stealing primate in "Night at the Museum" and a drug-dealing monkey in "Hangover Part II," is "the Angelina Jolie of animal stars," said "NCIS" actress Pauley Perrette, who is hosting the show with teen actor Lou Wegner.

Holding her tiny hand, Perrette asks the prolific primate: "So Crystal, you have starred with some of the top leading men of all times — Bradley Cooper, Ben Stiller, Matt Damon, Robin Williams — did you have a favorite?"

Bride’s Scathing Wedding ‘Invitation’ to Estranged Parents May Be a Viral Hit, but Her Deeper Story Details Years of Abuse That Led Up to It

A scathing wedding “invitation” from an angry bride-to-be to her parents is rocking the Internet, but the woman’s now-viral gesture contains a deeper story rooted in what she says was years of abuse.

“So my narcissistic parents abused me for 16 years before I ran away from home. Now they’re trying to bully their way (via family, they haven’t bothered to speak to me personally) into getting an invitation to my wedding,” the woman posted on Reddit. “There was really only one way to respond.”

UMass Amherst prohibits Iranian national students from taking engineering and science courses

In what it claims to be an attempt to begin complying with a more than two-year-old US law, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst has said that it will no longer allow Iranian citizens to enroll in many of its science and engineering programs. The school says that the policy is "unfortunate," but necessary to comply with sanctions against Iran. However, the law that it cites doesn't actually appear to require this. The university references the "Iran Threat Reduction and Syria Human Rights Act of 2012," which prohibits Iranian citizens from receiving US visas if they intend to attend college and then return to Iran to work in energy, nuclear, or related fields.

That's quite different from supposedly banning schools from teaching subjects to certain students, which it does not appear to actually do. "US law does not prohibit qualified Iranian nationals coming to the United States for education in science and engineering," a State Department official tells The Boston Globe. "Each application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis." Basically, if someone has a visa, they should be good to go — it doesn't appear that it's up to the college to enforce this policy.

UMass-Amherst claims otherwise. "There are significant penalties, both civil and criminal, that could potentially impact faculty, staff and students, for violations of this act and the related regulations and restrictions," it explains in a lengthy statement on the new policy. To some extent, the school almost makes it sound like this policy could be in protest to overbearing aspects of the law that have been causing trouble for many of its Iranian students, but that tone is very quickly dropped in favor of explaining that this is simply how the school reads this law and believes it must act. In fact, in a separate statement, it suggests that other universities have this same policy. It is unclear what other schools have this same policy.

Walmart to give 500,000 employees pay raises, improve scheduling and training programs

NEW YORK - Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is spending $1 billion to make changes to how it pays and trains hourly workers as the embattled retailer tries to reshape the image that its stores offer dead-end jobs.

As part of its biggest investment in worker training and pay ever, Wal-Mart told The Associated Press that within the next six months it will give raises to about 500,000 workers, or nearly 40 percent of its 1.3 million employees. Wal-Mart follows other retailers that have boosted hourly pay recently, but because it's the nation's largest private employer, the impact of its move will be more closely watched.

In addition to raises, Wal-Mart said it plans to make changes to how workers are scheduled and add training programs for sales staff so that employees can more easily map out their future at the company.

Rare Finds - 1969 Chevy Camaro Z/28

"Somebody let loose a juicy tidbit about an original '69 Z/28 in a basement."

Skip Lecates found this Camaro the same way he found the Yenko Deuce that appeared on the cover of this magazine's Sept. '12 issue ("Mission Accomplished"), by talking with muscle heads in his area. He determined that the owner was a very private individual. Instead of knocking on his door with no invitation, Skip asked "a friend of a friend" who works with the Camaro's owner to "talk to Larry and see if I can get in to look at the car."

Troopers Investigating Crash Northwest of Bridgeville Involving Three School Busses

Bridgeville, DE – Troopers are currently investigating a three vehicle crash involving school busses transporting students that occurred this afternoon.

Preliminary investigation indicates the incident happened around 4:00 p.m. Thursday February 19, 2015, as three school buses were traveling northbound on Adams Road approaching Newton Road (SR404) northwest of Bridgeville. As the first bus was coming to a slow stop due to icy conditions, the third bus began sliding on the ice and struck the rear of the second bus which in turn struck the lead bus. All three busses were loaded with students from the Woodbridge School District ranging from 3rd to 5th grade.

At least 16 children were transported by EMS to area hospitals where they were treated for minor non-life-threatening injuries. The additional students were transported by other busses to Woodbridge Middle School where a reunification center was set up in the gymnasium to reunite the kids with their parents as well as conduct examinations by Sussex County Paramedics and local EMS.

Troopers are continuing the investigation into this incident. SR404 at Adams Road was closed for approximately three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The 46 year old female, 30 year old male, and 55 year old male bus drivers were uninjured in the collision. No charges are forthcoming.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, the Sussex County Emergency Operations Center began receiving calls regarding crashes throughout Sussex County, primarily due to hazardous road conditions caused by the wind-blown snow across the roadways. At least 51 collisions which includes eight that involved non-life-threatening injuries have been investigated by troopers since that time

Terrorists already hit U.S. via 'refugee' program

Amid concerns potential terrorists can take advantage of the U.S. refugee quota for Syrians, it may be instructive to recall the family of Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the brothers who carried out the Boston Marathon bombing, were granted political asylum in the U.S. under a similar program.

WND reported last week a senior FBI official has admitted the U.S. is finding it virtually impossible to screen out terrorists that could be hiding among the thousands of Syrian “refugees” heading soon to American cities through the State Department’s refugee-resettlement program.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his parents came in April 2002 to the U.S. on a 90-day tourist visa and applied for political asylum, citing fears of persecution due to the father’s ties to Chechnya.

Oil Rally Seen Reversing as Rising U.S. Supply Deepens Glut

(Bloomberg) -- The rebound in oil will reverse because rising U.S. production is deepening the global supply glut, according to UBS AG, Bank of America Corp. and Commerzbank AG.

Brent futures entered a bull market this month as U.S. drillers stopped using a record number of rigs, companies cut at least $40 billion from spending plans and hedge funds turned the most bullish in seven months. None of that will stop Brent slipping back to $45 a barrel or lower within the next three months, from about $61 now, the banks’ analysts say. Prices fell as low as $45.19 on Jan. 13.

The highest U.S. oil production in three decades won’t be curtailed by the idling of rigs and inventories will keep expanding, according to UBS. The rally has been based on sentiment rather than the fundamentals of supply and demand, Commerzbank says. As storage space fills up, producers will need to discount to sell barrels, Bank of America predicts.

“Oil prices should again come under pressure,” said Giovanni Staunovo, an analyst at UBS in Zurich who expects Brent to reach $40 in the next three months. “Production is likely to rise further and inventories will continue to rise. This means the market will remain oversupplied in the first half of 2015.”

Brent’s advance to a two-month high of $62.57 on Monday prompted some members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to signal confidence in a recovery. Qatar’s Energy Minister Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada said that “a sense of optimism” has returned, while Kuwaiti minister Ali Al-Omair said the supply glut is smaller than previously estimated.

Drink This, Sleep 90 More Minutes A Night

Gulping 16 ounces a day could knock you out cold

No, it's not whiskey. New research from Louisiana State University finds that drinking tart cherry juice twice a day can help you sleep nearly 90 more minutes a night.

Researchers had seven older adults with insomnia drink eight ounces of Montmorency tart cherry juice twice a day for two weeks, followed by two weeks of no juice, and then two more weeks of drinking a placebo beverage. Compared to the placebo, drinking the cherry juice resulted in an average of 84 more minutes of sleep time each night.

(Are you getting the recommended amount of shuteye? Find out How Many Hours of Sleep You Really Need.)

Cherry juice is a natural source of the sleep-wake cycle hormone melatonin and the amino acid tryptophan, says study coauthor Frank L. Greenway, director of the outpatient research clinic at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at LSU.

Sad But True

Here are the 10,535 pages of ObamaCare condensed to 4 sentences… As humorous as this may sound, every last word of it is absolutely TRUE!

1. In order to insure the uninsured, we first have to uninsure the insured.

2. Next, we require the newly uninsured to be re-insured

3. To re-insure the newly uninsured, they are required to pay extra charges to be re-insured.

4. The extra charges are required so that the original insured, who became uninsured, and then became re-insured, can pay enough extra so that the original uninsured can be insured, which will be free of charge to them.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is called "redistribution of wealth" ...or, by its more common name......... SOCIALISM.

The Maryland Senate has voted to raise the speed limit from 65 to 70 mph on state highways.

US 'crusader' returns to Iraq with Christian militia to fight ISIS

A 28-year-old former US soldier has returned to Iraq as part of a militia defending one of the world's oldest Christian communities under threat from terror group ISIS.

The man, known only as Brett, is one of the leading foreign fighters in the Dwekh Nawsha Christian militia. He had previously served in the US Army in Baghdad between 2006 and 2007.

Now, he is based in Al-Qosh, home of a mostly Christian population, which had been forced to flee into Kurdistan when ISIS fighters threatened to approach.

Brett describes himself as a crusader' with a tattoo of Jesus with a crown of thorns on one arm and a machine gun on the other.

He is also responsible for recruiting fellow foreign fighters.

ISIS was never able to capture Al-Qosh, but much of the population, like that in Mosul, which had a large Christian community, has also been forced to flee.

Speaking from the Dwekh Nawsha stronghold in the Kurdish city of Dohuk, he said: 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. But here we're actually fighting for the freedom of the people here to be able live peaceably, to be able to live without persecution, to keep the church bells ringing.'

The mass exodus that took place in mid-2014 has put the continued existence of one of world's oldest Christian communities into question.

With Kurdish peshmerga fighters now clawing back land around Mosul, some Christians are keen to take up arms for their survival and Dwekh Nwasha is only one of several recently formed groups.

Thousands of westerners have been recruited into the ranks of ISIS, but many of those end up as 'cannon fodder' or suicide bombers to assist more valuable Chechen fighters.

MD Delegate Wants to Raise Highway Speed Limit to 70 MPH

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The speed limit on Maryland's highways could end up getting faster.

Delegate Neil Parrott is sponsoring a bill to increase the speed limit from 65 to 70 on Maryland's expressways, interstates, and highways.

"Prior to 1973, that was the maximum speed limit in Maryland. It was 70 miles per hour. Now our roadways are safer. Our cars are safer. They run more efficiently at high speeds, and it makes sense to return to what we had before at 70 miles per hour," says Parrott, (R) , Washington County.

Senator George Edwards is sponsoring his own bill to increase the speed limit from 65 to 70 along Route 68 in Maryland.

"It connects 69 to West Virginia, where it is 70 miles per hour. A lot of my constituents say, 'If you go 70 miles per hour in West Virginia on 68, why can't we do it in Maryland?' Our roads are actually better than their roads when you look at the safety features, the width of it, and so forth," says Edwards, (R) - Garrett, Allegany, and Washington Counties.

Senator Ron Young is a co-sponsor of the bill.

"The roads, like in Senator Edwards' area, there's not a lot of traffic. The roads are designed for it. They're safe. There are roads around the state where the same conditions are true, and I think it just makes sense. It improves traffic," says Young, (D) , Frederick and Washington Counties.

Giving Illegals The Vote: How To Wreck A Country

Immigration: State officials are warning that President Obama's de facto amnesty easily enables illegals to cast ballots in U.S. elections — effectively canceling out the votes of American citizens. This is how a republic is wrecked.

They say a nation that has no borders is no longer a nation. But for state officials who are seeing "a massive problem" of illegals voting in U.S. elections after President Obama's questionable amnesty of 5 million, it's real life, according to testimony last week before the House Oversight Committee.

Secretaries of State Kris Kobach of Kansas and John Husted of Ohio warned Congress Thursday that Obama's issuance of Social Security numbers to illegals through his Immigration Accountability Executive Actions, as well as various states' issuances of driver's licenses to illegals, make it impossible — impossible — to distinguish between legal and illegal voters in elections.

"These are the same documents that federal law requires the states to recognize as valid forms of identification for voter registration," Husted testified.

"There is no way for us to validate" U.S. citizenship, "since under the executive actions previously undocumented non-citizens will have access to the same documents as U.S. citizens."

In other words, under Obama all U.S. identification cards are worthless now that anyone can vote here. And this comes as goodies for illegal immigrants are being piled high.

Those eligible for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, for example, are being given a fast track to citizenship, according to testimony Friday by Department of Homeland Security officials.

And the Internal Revenue Service confirmed that illegals would be given "amnesty bonuses" worth as much as $24,000, retroactive through three years, via the earned income tax credit. Even those who have never filed tax returns are eligible.

The extension of such privileges and rights look suspiciously like an attempt to build a new Democratic voting base from scratch — a base of foreigners from the least-educated parts of Central and Latin America last seen electing Venezuela-style communists offering economy-wrecking handouts.

Don't think the Venezuela model won't be tried here. In 2004, two months before the late dictator Hugo Chavez faced a tough recall, he handed out instant citizenship and voting rights to 5 million illegals in his country. It may well have been the difference in his questionable "victory" that year.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.) today announced the introduction of the Highway Runoff Management Act, S. 518, a federal measure to reduce the pollution and erosion damage caused by untreated stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces.

“We have got to do more to control the unabated flow of pollution into our waterways, along with the erosion that follows surges of stormwater. This bill address these problems head-on, and better places the financial responsibility for the solutions on the agencies that most directly contribute to the problems,” said Senator Cardin, a senior member of the Environment and Public Works Committee. “Far too much of America’s transportation infrastructure is obsolete and not up to the task of adequately protecting our waters. Ignoring this problem any longer gives rise to unacceptable risks on the road for the public and does a chronic disservice to our creeks, streams, rivers – and the Chesapeake Bay.”

Untreated runoff from impervious surfaces like buildings, roads and parking lots is a growing source of pollution nationwide. Stormwater that falls on roadways, for example, washes oil, grease, asbestos brake-dust, nitrogen deposits from tailpipe emissions, trash, sediment, salt and de-icing agents into nearby waters. Worse, the erosion that too often accompanies storm surges chokes waterways and can undercut roadways, causing them to collapse.

Kristin Walsh's work also draws from landscapes, and investigates how changing uses of the environment refuse any clean distinction between "natural" and "manmade." She uses installation, photographic prints and sculpture to construct a series of object-landscape scenographies to make visible how and why an object creates a spatial void in a landscape.

White House Tells Reporters: Violent Extremists Also Come from United States

Senior Obama administration officials said that the three-day “Countering Violent Extremism” (CVE) Summit being held at the White House this week will also focus on “violent extremists” from the U.S. in addition to Islamic terrorists abroad.

“ISIL is the near-term threat that we all are focused on, but we also recognize in the United States there has been violent extremists that come in all sorts of shapes and sizes,” an unnamed senior Obama administration official said during a background conference call with reporters on Monday.

Rather than focusing exclusively on Islamic terrorism, “the agenda for all three days is going to show a wide array of speakers and participants from all backgrounds who combat radicalization, violent extremism and terrorism in its many forms,” reporters were told.

ATF Proposes Ban on AR-15 Ammo

It looks like the current administration is back to its old tricks of seeking backdoor gun control that will only affect law abiding gun owners. The ATF is apparently in the process of attempting to ban a popular type of 5.56mm round that is popular with AR-15 owners.

Based on new proposed regulations, the ATF is essentially seeking a ban on the popular M855 round (aka “green tip”).

The NRA-ILA weighed in on the measure:

Now, BATFE has released a “Framework for Determining Whether Certain Projectiles are ‘Primarily Intended for Sporting Purposes’ Within the Meaning of 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(17)(c)”, which would eliminate M855’s exemption to the armor piercing ammunition prohibition and make future exemptions nearly impossible.

MIKULSKI, CARDIN SEEK TO EXTEND THE CHILDREN'S HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM

WASHINGTON  U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.), have signed on as original cosponsors of legislation that would ensure continued health care coverage to more than 135,000 children in Maryland. Senators Mikulski and Cardin joined Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) in introducing legislation to extend the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) through 2019. If Congress fails to act, federal funding for CHIP will end on September 30, 2015, leaving millions children and pregnant women nationwide without, health care coverage.
“I fought to create the CHIP program in 1997 so that children across America, regardless of their parent’s income, would have access to quality, affordable healthcare. I have been fighting ever since to expand coverage and increase payment to states,” said Senator Mikulski, a senior member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. “States want to do the right thing, but they can’t do it on their own. That’s why this CHIP extension is so important. I will keep fighting, so that the federal government fulfills its responsibilities to America’s families, America’s children and America’s future.”
“No child in Maryland or in the nation should be without health care,” said Senator Ben Cardin. “By extending the federal funding CHIP program through 2019, we are making sure that states and health departments will have the resources needed to reach out and make sure every child who is eligible for Medicaid or CHIP is enrolled. Thanks to CHIP, we now have the highest number in history of children who are insured with medical and dental insurance. I am particularly proud that we guarantee dental benefits for millions of children through CHIP. Good oral health is essential for our children to thrive.”

McDonald’s “Pay With Lovin'” Campaign Doesn’t Result In Any Actual Love For Company

Nearly four months ago, when we first got hints that McDonald’s was going to be making a Super Bowl-centered campaign about how “lovin’ is better than hatin'” and other folksiness, we predicted it wouldn’t exactly be well received by consumers. And when it finally rolled out the “Pay with lovin'” campaign, our opinion didn’t really change. Now that this brief, G-droppin’ period has passed, it doesn’t look like people have anymore love for McDonald’s than they did a few months ago.

CDC Hypes Flu Dangers: Top Doctor

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urges Americans over the age of six months to get an annual flu shot. Their pleas are combined with dire warnings of risking hospitalization and death for those who skip the shot. But are the warnings over-inflated?

On their own website, the CDC states that flu deaths between 1976 and 2006 ranged from a low of 3,000 people to a high of 49,000. But they also reported on their website that only 500 people died from flu in 2010. "The fact is, the outrageous claims of 3,000 to 49,000 deaths are inaccurate numbers," says holistic family physician Dr. David Brownstein. "They are just guesswork."

The CDC itself admits it doesn't know how many people die from flu each year, and that their figures are estimates. How does the CDC get such over-inflated flu death numbers? "The CDC lumps pneumonia with the flu to make their numbers look better," Dr. Brownstein tells Newsmax Health. "It is an estimated number that includes people who also die from pneumonia, and the flu vaccine has never been shown to protect against getting pneumonia," he says.

Why does the CDC keep reporting inflated numbers? "The CDC needs to keep Big Pharma happy, because that's what really controls healthcare," says Dr. Brownstein. "So, the CDC perpetuates the myth that everyone needs a flu shot. The CDC can say they're doing their job, Big Pharma can sell more shots, and everyone is happy."

So, hospitals, doctors, pharmacies and other health-related organizations and health personnel relentlessly push vaccination.
