I know the odds are slim on this but we're looking for a possible witnesses who may have seen a pickup truck in front of a home at 22808 Capitola Road in Tyaskin/Whitehaven, near the Red Roost.
The person/persons in the pickup broke into this home of a young couple celebrating Christmas for the first time with their 6 month old baby.
The robbers stole EVERYTHING they had purchased for Christmas and just tore the place apart. The Police did fingerprint the home and they did life some prints but any help we can give these fine people would be fantastic.
Perhaps you noticed an unusual vehicle/truck, the color of it, one or two people in it, young, old, white, black, MD tags, VA tags, DE tags?
If possible, let's see what we can do to salvage Christmas for this Family and hopefully get these Idiots placed behind bars before they hit someone else.
If you saw anything, please contact me at alberobutzo@wmconect.com and I'll get the info to the Police right away.
Thanks Folks. Joe

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!
FIRE AT CENTER OF SALISBURY MALL!

More Eastern Shore Justice
The charges against David Bruce Whetstone a 20 year old charged with assault, malicious destruction of property and robbery at the Royal Farms Store have gone to trial. He goes to court, in Wicomico County, pleads guilty and gets 15 years in jail. Then the judge suspends all but 8 years of his sentence and gives him 18 months probation.
Someone should have told this guy, if you are going to commit any type of theft crime you have to steal from the taxpayers of the county NOT a privately owned business. That is, if you don't want to spend time in jail.
Ok, so Ray Lewis, Kenny Townsend and all the other crooks didn't physically assault anyone but they did commit robbery and they did maliciously destroy the trust of taxpayers in this county. The only ones guilty of assault are the judges who sentenced those that have been tried already and the States Attorneys that have presented these cases in court. They are guilty of assaulting the intelligence of the taxpayers of Wicomico County.
You have to love the judicial system.

Salvation Army Bell Ringing Update
Ladies & Gentlemen, we need your help. Quite a few people have come down with the flu that's been going around and just as soon as we got excited about filing all of the open slots, quite a few others opened up. I'm told Michael's opened up from 12-6 today and possibly tomorrow. The North WalMart Food just opened from 12-3, someone called in sick. As you can see from the schedules above, we've been blessed with coverage but there are now a few open slots needing to be filled. If you have the time and energy and you'd like to help in any way you can, we'd be truly grateful. Please call the Salvation Army at 410-749-7771 ext. 100. If you call them and ask what might be open they can fill you in immediately as they have the up to the minute fill in's and or cancellations.
I'm heading to Sam's Club right now to cover from 2-4. Yes, even one of our own from Salisbury News became sick. Thanks for the help everyone.
UPDATE: The Walmart Retail entrance 2 til 5 pm slot is now filled for tomorrow, Tuesday Dec 23. Thank you, Mr. Savage.
Christmas Shopping 2008
Shopping...bah humbug. I despise shopping for anything so, I wait until I can't wait any longer. Actually, I did start shopping around the 10th of December, early for me. While shopping in all the big box stores, and the mom and pop stores I noticed something very strange this year. Not once did I wait on line to pay for my selected items. Not anywhere, at any time of day or night. The only places I've had to wait on line was at the bank and the grocery store.
I have also noticed there is no big rush for the must have item of the year. Does anyone know what the must have items are this year? I haven't heard of any particular toy, music, video games or dvd's that people absolutely must have. I am beginning to believe the merchants consider everything a must have item this year.
Another thing I've noticed, there are a lot of people out shopping but they aren't buying. Sit in the mall and watch all the people walk by with not one bag in their hand. Is it like this everywhere?

Delaware Electric Cooperative "Peak Alert"
“Peak Alert”
6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Tonight, December 22
Because of the colder than normal temperatures across our region today, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., December 22, we are asking you to delay the usage of all unnecessary lights or appliances during these hours.
While one of the largest consumers of electricity in the home during these hours and during this time of year are heating costs, other large consumers of electricity include major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers, hot water heaters and stoves as well as Christmas lighting displays.
By delaying the use of unnecessary lighting and appliances between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. tonight we can save energy resources, avoid high cost energy and help the environment.
We need your help. Together we can “Beat The Peak”
Thank you.

"Joe,
This morning I heard a loud noise coming down my street, and saw a county vacuum truck slowly inching along with the big vacuum hose hovering over the gutter. To the end of the street and back down the other side, I really didn’t pay it much mind. As I went out to run a few errands, I looked both ways before pulling out of the driveway, and noticed that the gutters still had sand, rocks, and leaves in them…FROZEN TO THE GUTTER, as it was some 24 degrees. I went around the block out on Zion Road, and there he was, continuing this futile attempt at cleaning gutters! Please see the attached “before” and “after” photos and figure that drivers’ pay plus the fuel burn for two engines on that piece of equipment, plus the payments on the truck probably is costing us around $410 today to accomplish absolutely NOTHING!
It rained yesterday, froze last night, and is still frozen now!
DUH!"
Mayor Tilghman, A Legend In Her Own Mind
This morning, Mayor Tilghman had her weekly radio show on WICO. It was quite interesting this week. You see, rather than someone interviewing the Mayor, she interviewed herself.
Nevertheless, she'd say to herself, self, why aren't you going to run again for Mayor. I'm glad you asked that question, self. You see, I want to go out at the top of my game.
Self, what do you think your biggest accomplishment was? Working directly with individuals and helping them resolve problems, such as social services. The Mayor went on to explain how she was able to work one on one with people and help them to the next level, so to speak.
That's not what a Mayor does Barrie. Granted, it's nice when you can help individuals and I commend you for that. However, you FAILED the City. A Mayor represents everyone, not just one at a time. I would have loved to be able to call into the Mayor and say, how do you feel about the hundreds of animals that died at the Salisbury Zoo and you not only knew about it, you covered it up? I know they're not taxpayers but if so many people are worried about puppy mills, the Zoo was a thousand times worse and we delivered evidence proving to the Mayor and John Pick just how many hundreds of animals that had died unnecessarily. It's no wonder the City is in so much trouble. Oh well, she'll leave it to the next person to clean up her mess. Oh, trust me, it's going to get really bad too.
I'm sure in her Diary after that interview it read, Self, you did really well in that interview.

Sunday's Daily Times
As many of you are aware, I am a part of the forum each week that is asked a question and the answers are printed in the Sunday Daily Times. This past Sunday the question was, What was your fondest Christmas memory. My reply was, (in which the Daily Times produced)
"This year Mayor Barrie Tilghman delivered my fondest Christmas memory. How can anyone deny the pleasure of believing there's finally hope for the City of Salisbury. Should Voters come through by electing someone more fiscally responsible and actually run a more open form of government, there is no better gift for so many thousands of people. While the Mayor had claimed her decision wouldn't be brought forth until after the Holidays, she truly gifted the citizens with hope. It's a Very Merry Christmas and Mayor Tilghman gave the guy who has everything the best Christmas gift ever.

According To Forbes
Labor cost per hour, wages and benefits for hourly workers.
Ford: $70.51 ($141,020 per year)
GM: $73.26 ($146,520 per year)
Chrysler: $75.86 ($151,720 per year)
Toyota , Honda, Nissan (in U.S. ): $48.00 ($96,000 per year)
According to AAUP and IES, the average annual compensation for a college professor in 2006 was $92,973 (average salary nationally of $73,207 + 27% benefits).
Bottom Line: The average UAW worker with a high school degree earns 57.6% more compensation than the average university professor with a Ph.D., and 52.6% more than the average worker at Toyota, Honda or Nissan.
Many industry analysts say the Detroit Three, must be on par with Toyota and Honda to survive. This year's contract, they say, must be "transformational" in reducing pension and health care costs. What would "transformational" mean? One way to think about "transformational" would mean that UAW workers, most with a high school diploma, would have to accept compensation equal to that of the average university professor with a PhD.
Then there's the "Job Bank"When a D3 ( Detroit 3 carmaker) lays an employee off, that employee continues to receive all benefits - medical, retirement, etc., etc., PLUS an hourly wage of $31/hour.
Here's a typical story....
Ken Pool is making good money. On weekdays, he shows up at 7 a.m. at Ford Motor Co.'s Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne , signs in, and then starts working -- on a crossword puzzle. Pool hates the monotony, but the pay is good: more than $31 an hour, plus benefits."We just go in and play crossword puzzles, watch videos that
someone brings in or read the newspaper," he says. "Otherwise, I just sit."
Pool is one of more than 12,000 American autoworkers who, instead of installing windshields or bending sheet metal, spend their days counting the hours in a jobs bank set up by Detroit automakers as demanded by the United Auto Workers Union - UAW - as part of an extraordinary job security agreement.
Now t he D3 wants Joe Taxpayer to pick up this tab in a $25 Billion bailout package - soon to be increased to $45 Billion if Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton have their way.
The "Big 3" want this money - not to build better autos. No. They want it to pay the tab for Medical and Retirement benefits for RETIRED auto workers. Not ONE PENNY would be used to make them more competitive, or to improve the quality of their cars.
We ALL have problems paying for our Medical Insurance - but the Democrat leaders in Congress now want us to pay the Medical Insurance premiums of folks who have RETIRED from Ford, GM and Chrysler.
Not a good deal for us.
How about Chapter 11 -???????

MD State Employees Furlough And Salary Reduction
"Joe
It surprises me nobody is talking about the State Empoyees Furlough and Salary Reduction the Governor is requiring. I know it is a sore subject to a lot of people. This is thanks to BUBBA and the Good Ole Boys abusing the system. But there is the family person who is trying to earn an honest living and trying to be respectful in the community by giving an honest days work. This is just another way for the Democrats and our Governor to tax and spend more. He has not cut spending that would not be considered an ENTITLEMENT OR NECESSITY by MD law. The Governor has exempted the Legislative & Judicial Branches along with other employees which would include his buddies. Yes, the Governor stated he has written his check. But this does not reflect the same impact on him, $150,000 salary, and his family that it does on the lower salaried employee. Since the Governor does not have the balls to do a percentage / impact program for all State employees and ones payed from the State budget shows his ruthlessness. This also shows two other things the impact of a one party State government and the ineffective and uselessness of the Unions. Since they are the ones who put him in office how are they going to fight this injustice? I know there will be a lot of negative comments but healthy discussions always involve negativity. Comments are welcome and I would like for some of the comments to explain why cuts done to the programs that do not fit in the two catagories of ENTITLEMENTS OR NECESSITIES required by MD law were not the first option.

Redmen Lodge Food Drive
Joe,
Thought you might be interested in another food/toy drive for the local area. The Redmen Lodge in Fruitland has once again this year put together Christmas baskets for 93 local families with a total of 156 children. Parkside High School was able to collect three pallets of food to assist us this year which was a big help. We will be delivering all of the baskets to the families starting at 9am on Wed morning. We would like to thank all of the volunteers that have helped again this year, without your help it would not be possible. All the clear plastic bags are full of presents for the children in the families I have included some pictures feel free to use any of them you want. This is just one of the many good things that the Redmen Lodge does year round

THE DOWNTOWN SALISBURY DISASTER AREA
These photos were taken around mid afternoon this past Saturday, December 20. It is obvious that the claims made by Barrie Tilghman and Bubba Comegys about how they have saved the downtown are pure BS. We shouldn't forget the rest of Main Street starting with Wayne Gilchrest's Office available very soon. There's another shop closing at the end of the Plaza at the end of this month and then there's Feldman's, who has been closed for almost a month now. The photos above are just an example of the numerous buildings and space available. Who's kidding who? Pictures don't lie Barrie = Bubba.

Salvation Army Nostalgia
DON’T FORGET THE SALVATION ARMY!
And don’t miss this snippet Don't Forget The Salvation Army from a recording of the song of that name made in 1919 at the Edison recording studio and released on “Edison Blue Amberol” cylinders. The lead vocalist is Arthur Fields, who was a leading recording artist of the early 20th Century.
The entire recording and many others from the “cylinder days” are available at the website of the Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project of the University of California, Santa Barbara, which has a collection of nearly 8,000 cylinder recordings that includes some from the 19th Century. I Tried Warning All Of You About Those Used Car Salesmen
"Hi Joe,
I don't know if this is a story for you or not, but I was scammed BIG time this weekend. I have talked with you via email a few times about my family and how hard times have been for us the past few months. Well I had a van that we were no longer using because I lucked out and got a newer (1998) truck. In order to buy gifts for my children this year we decided to sell the van. All seriousness without the sell of this van we would have nothing for Christmas. Any how, I listed the van on craigslist and within 2 hours I was contacted about it. The guy "Rob" gave me this heart wrenching story that his motor had just blown in his car right here before Christmas time and he really needed a way back and forth to work, he had been using a cab and was desperate for a vehicle. He wanted to know if we could take $400, I said no, no way I could go that low. So I said $550, I was asking $700 which is already $500 below BBV. He calls back in desperation "Would your husband please take $500 its all I have and I really need this car, it's just been a run of bad luck with my motor blowing and everything right here at Christmas time." Now I have told this guy I need this money in order to buy my children gifts this Christmas, so he is very well aware of that fact.
Feeling sorry for this guy, I accept the $500, because I know what its like to be without a vehicle and I figure it's better to help someone out who is in need than to hold out for the higher (asking price) bidder. So the guy comes here to get the van and he is still sticking with the his motor blew up story. I am a bit disappointed because I know I will not be able to buy my children the things they wanted but I am feeling really good about helping this man right here so close to Christmas time. Ok, all that being said I look on Craigslist, the original listing place, and there is an ad "MUST SELL 1994 Plymouth Voyager Mini-van" $1500. So of course I open it to see, because that is the same exact make model and year of the van I just sold. What I was already fearing was true, it WAS my van. The thing that just ticks me off is he could have cared less about the fact this money was for my children's Christmas and was greedy and selfish. I guess not all people are concerned with others, if nothing else I can say at least I showed I have a heart! The following link is his ad, seems to me by the look of his house and things, he surely could have sprung the extra $200 I was asking for. Oh and one more note the van isn't in excellent shape like he claims, the distributor needs to be replaced, the water pump may possibly need to be replaces, it needs tires and a side mirror, the gas gauge is broken, and the windshield may not pass inspection. Also there is a short in the electric wiring that interferes with the windshield wipers, causing them to wipe when the switch is off. The only way to stop this from happening is to remove the fuse. This guy not only swindled me but is attempting to swindle someone else. What a crook!" http://easternshore.craigslist.org/cto/966186149.html

Delaware Electric Cooperative "Peak Alert"
“Peak Alert”
6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Tomorrow, December 22
Because of the colder than normal temperatures expected across our region Monday, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, December 22 we are asking you to turn off all unnecessary lights or appliances that may not be needed.
In addition, whenever you can, please delay major appliance usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers, and if you can, delay any hot water usage.
By reducing our peak demand during these hours we save energy resources and the environment.
We need your help. Together we can “Beat The Peak”
Thank you.
Twas The Month Before Christmas
*Twas the month before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a 'Holiday'.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd! *
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Daschle, Now Darden, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, on Rather, on Kerry, on Clinton!*
*At the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
* Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS ,
not Happy Holiday!*
Please, all Christians join together and
wish everyone you meet
MERRY CHRISTMAS
