Troopers Investigate Police Impersonation Incident

Location: Foulk Road at US Rt. 202, Wilmington, DE

 

Date of Occurrence:   Monday, August 22, 2011 at 6:00 p.m.

 

Suspect: White male, 35-40 years of age, 5’10”-6’00” tall, 180-200 lbs, with an average build and blonde hair. He was last seen wearing dark blue pants, and a light blue shirt with dark lapels, and was operating a 2009 green Kia hatchback with a Delaware registration.

-56 year old Aston, PA man

 

Resume: 

Wilmington- The Delaware State Police are looking for a male who impersonated a police officer early yesterday evening in Wilmington.

 

The incident occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 22, as a 56 year old Pennsylvania man was operating his vehicle on southbound Foulk Road approaching the intersection of Rt. 202 in Wilmington. The victim advised troopers that as he was driving, his vehicle was almost struck from behind by a subject who was operating a green Kia hatchback. A male subject, who was operating the Kia, then exited his car and approached the victim after they had stopped for a red light at Foulk Road and Rt. 202. The subject, who was dressed in what appeared to be a police uniform, began yelling and cursing at the victim and demanded the victim’s operator’s license. The victim turned over his operator’s license and was then told by the subject to follow him to his police station. The subject then drove off with the victim following him as he was ordered to do. The victim followed the subject to I-95 in the area of the Christiana Mall exit in Newark, where he then lost sight of him. The victim then returned home and contacted 9-1-1.

The Delaware State Police would like to remind the public that if you are ever approached by someone claiming to be a police officer but you are unsure, ask for identification. Do not assume that if the subject is dressed in a uniform that they are actually police officers. If you are still unsure, roll up your window, lock your doors, and contact 9-1-1 to confirm the subject’s identity.
