Hours before the bipartisan agreement was announced yesterday, a few GOP members sent signals they weren’t comfortable with where the talks were headed.
The horse-trading has attracted strong criticism from liberals, but unrest is also building on the right.
Republican leaders have long stressed that any extension of unemployment benefits should be offset with spending cuts. However, some newly elected House GOP members claim the benefits have gone on for too long and need to be halted.
Congressional Democrats and President Obama insisted that unemployment benefits be extended as part of any deal on the tax cuts.

Well, this is what happens when hardliners on both sides fail to make the tough decisions based on objective analysis. You get tax cuts for the rich and continued benefits for the out of work, both of which this country can't afford, because neither side really wants to face reality. WE'RE BROKE.
The bitter pill that none of these guys seem able to swallow is that spending has to be reined in while the taxes of the rich will have to revert back to Clinton days (which were still relatively low rates) to help things get back on track.
I agree on reining in spending but raising taxes never works lowering taxes always creates growth and more revenue for government it's a proven strategy.
You can't compare the 20 percentage point cuts of the past to the effects of a 2-3 pt. increase today. Not to mention we've had nearly 10 years under the current tax regime. We were in recession prior to the enactment of BUsh cuts, and look where we're at now.
Because of government regulation over spending and high taxes so due the opposite.
