Md. Unemployment Up To 7.3%, But New Jobs Added

Unemployment increased in Maryland last month, but so did the number of jobs, as employers filled 10,000 new positions, the Labor Department said Friday.

That's a turnaround from June, when companies shed 4,400 jobs from their payrolls, according to federal estimates. The numbers are preliminary, which means they could change.

Last month's job creation wasn't enough to keep the unemployment rate from ticking up to 7.3 percent, from 7.2 percent the month before.

Even with the extra jobs, Maryland had 50,000 fewer positions last month than a year ago.

The estimates are adjusted to try to account for seasonal changes in hiring and layoffs.

Maryland is still doing far better than most of the states in the country, thank goodness! Many are in the 8.5% on up to double digits. Only a few are in the 6% and 7% ranges.

I would like to see what the unemployment numbers are on the Delmarva Peninsula? I am sure its more than 10 percent. I've been unemployed for 6 months now, and I can tell you it is really tough out there! Some jobs I applied to had over 300 applicants! Don't expect help from the unemployment office. They direct you to the internet and you are completely on your own! Even retail jobs are hard to find. There are also few jobs that pay over 10 dollars per hour even with a college degree. If I didn't have the support of my church, I would probably be on the street by now.

Check this link to the national unemployment map. It should speak for itself and I think the number are far worse than what is report on the map.

The Huffington Post is equivalent to the Weekly World News at the grocery store.

this all george bush's fault, our President Obama needs more time to undo all the horrible evil sick twisted things he and the republicans did. Now that a black man is in office, the government is going to fix all of our problems. We need to give our government complete control to fix this mess that the republicans started.

Yo beeatch..hand me my crack pipe now, or we's gonna play whaccka hoe
