The Daily Times Does It Again!

Today's Daily Times online (www.delmarvanow,com) has removed the comments section, including one already published comment from one of its stories, this time the one about campaign contributions. Anybody keep a copy of it from this morning so that Joe can post it?

The Article:
Ireton, Comegys raise most funds
By Laura D'Alessandro • Staff Writer • February 26, 2009

SALISBURY -- The campaign contribution reports are in, and mayoral candidate Jim Ireton has reported the most funds raised thus far at about $7,000, with Gary Comegys the closest behind with more than $4,000.

Candidate Bob Caldwell, who reported $875, came in third, and Michael Della Penna reported $0 in contributions.

"I put it out there for people to make contributions," Della Penna said. "I guess people just don't like me."

He said his expenditures have so far been a little more than $500 out of his own pocket and he plans to invest more if he makes it through the primary, from which he said he does not intend to withdraw.

"I have heard people saying I should just back out, that all I'm doing is hurting the rest of the candidates," he said. "But I'm not going to do that."

Caldwell and Comegys turned in short lists of mostly large donors compared to Ireton's list of more than 100 people. Ireton has also spent the most so far on his campaign.

While candidates still spend the typical majority of their money on signs, brochures or mailings, candidates are now showing an investment in the Internet.

Candidates are required to report their contributions again March 31 and give a final report May 21. The primary election is Tuesday. The general election is April 7.

Whew!! Seven large-that will get you a nice "nu-sed" Hyundai-don't fall for the extra subcharge for that factory installed TruCoat rust-proofing. Let us hear more about specific responses to the plethora of more compelling issues.

The comment is over on the Two Sentz blog. I think that is the one you are referring to.

It's still there, it's under the contributions list not the actual story. It was posted to Joe's blog under the Louise Smith post prior to him putting up the Contributions post. Here it is again:

"Was it deliberate to not put a line in to show where Comegys donations began? I think the end of Ireton Expenses was at "Karen Silverstrim, prepare will, silent auction item, $100.00." Next begins Gary Comegys Contributors beginning with "Gamee Elliott, Salisbury, $250." So Ireton had 107 people contributing to his campaign, only four of whom gave the maximum donation of $250. Gary Comegys had 22 contributors 13 of which (over half) gave the full $250. So this reveals that Ireton has a wider base of support from average people while Comegys has very little support, but lots of it from people with money. Go back and look at Comegys' donors and count how many are landlords or developers. This will reveal the special interests backing Comegys. He won't have the City taxpayers' interest in mind, he will be protecting the special interests of people who make their money off the decay of the City. Remember that when you vote on Tuesday."

2:49,
It is better than 4 large! And you should banish the word "plethora" to your high school essays--it is usually used when someone wants to sound smarter than they really are. You seem to be a Comegys supporter--please tell me what "issues" Comegys has addressed? How to find the best sleeping spot in the cemetery? He took his "issues" right off of Ireton's website and just rearranged them. But he paid a lot of money for that fancy site with no ideas!

I found it funny that Jim Ireton donated $200 to himself, and Gary Comegys donated $0 to himself. Either Gary doesn't think he's gonna win, and doesn't wanna waste the money; or it looks like another Chapter 11 is on it's way. Look at Gary's list of donors.....Barrie anyone!!!

If you're too dense to figure it out I'll spell it out for you..........
VOTE for JIM IRETON

Comegys loaned himself a chunk o' change, though.

His slumlord buddies lie in wait to anoint their chosen.

Joe, you are so critical of the Daily Times, why don't you buy it. You think you can do a better job of running it. Please condescend and show us your talent.Call it the Albero Times.

Liz,

Why would I hire on a crew who has obviously failed. What I'm doing is right and what Greg Bassett and the rest of the staff there is doing is failing. Yes, ALL of you are to blame. I have a successful Blog, you cannot deny that. Why would I want to throw good money after bad money. Buying a newspaper is a waste of money today. Find new jobs.
