Congressman Andy Harris Press Releases

Rep. Harris Issues Statement in Support of FIRST STEP Act

WASHINGTON, DC: On May 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5682, the FIRST STEP Act. The FIRST STEP Act seeks to improve the federal prison system through enhanced prison security and providing inmates with educational and vocational training opportunities. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) issued the following statement after the bill was passed:

“Today, the House of Representatives passed bipartisan prison reform legislation to make our country safer and more successful. The FIRST STEP Act expands educational, mentoring, and job training opportunities for inmates, setting up inmates to lead productive lives upon release. Inmates with access to such programs are more likely to find work and housing upon release, and have a lower risk of returning to a life of crime.  The FIRST STEP Act will strengthen our public safety by reducing the number of inmates who become repeat offenders.”

Rep. Harris Issues Statement on Right to Try Act

WASHINGTON, DC: On May 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 204, the Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act. This legislation increases terminally ill patients’ access to experimental drugs that have not yet been approved or licensed by the FDA. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) issued the following statement lauding the bill’s passage:

“Today, the House of Representatives delivered new hope to patients fighting for their lives. Stunning new cures in medicine occur each and every day, and patients deserve the right to try any and all available treatments, including treatment options still in the final approval process. The federal government has no place denying terminally-ill patients the opportunity for survival, especially when there are hundreds of potential treatments stuck in the FDA’s pipeline. As a physician, I am proud to support the Right to Try Act – a bill that will bring hope and relief to families plagued by terminal illness across the United States.”

Rep. Harris Releases Statement on Bipartisan Banking Reform Bill

WASHINGTON, DC: On May 22, the U.S. House of Representatives passed S. 2155 – the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act. This bipartisan bill eases the burden several Dodd-Frank regulations have placed on small community banks and consumers. Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (MD-01) released the following statement in support of the legislation:

“Heavy handed and costly banking regulations hurt America’s small community banks and American consumers. The bipartisan Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act passed by the House of Representatives today will provide small community banks and consumers with much-needed relief. This legislation will exempt small banks from time-consuming reporting requirements, protect consumers’ access to credit, and implement credit protections for veterans and student borrowers. I applaud my colleagues in Congress for passing this pro-consumer, pro-small business legislation.”

Joe, I just saw this press release from Jake Day. Didn't he try this BS once before, like last year or the year before? If no one did it then what makes him want to do it now. By the way I believe we are getting close to Jim Ireton's 10 year anniversary where he promised everyone that he would have the Wicomico River cleaned up. The Press release when out yesterday for a Ribbon cutting today, Thursday, at 5 PM. Kind of short notice Jakey! It was done last year just in time for Memorial Day weekend as well. He did the same crap last year and it was a failure and he is trying it again this year. What do they say about doing the same thing over and over again?

Jake Day did give someone free City property for a paddle board business. It's in the DT Link below and has pictures of the Boi Mare and the worst police chief in uniform riding a paddle boat. Check it out.

Joe this will be a good story for you on another failure of Jake Day's. I posted the link to the Daily Times article where the Paddle Board Ribbon Cutting was last year on April 27, 2017. I then went to their Facebook page and they never even got off the ground. Another failure by Jake Day and him rebuilding downtown Salisbury.

Here is their Facebook page. The Ribbon Cutting was April 27, 2017 of last year and July 13 and 14th they posted on their FB page that they won't be open for business "full-time" even though Jake Day gave them a free dock and built and expensive aluminum launching pad. Go to FB and see the pictures and posts. This would be an awesome story of another Jake Day Failure!

Capital SUP SBY is feeling fabulous at Downtown Salisbury.

Fun times this past weekend exploring the Wicomico River with the Eastern Shore Running Club (ESRC) and Mayor Jacob Day!

Although we won't be opening up full-time this summer like originally planned, we will still be getting people out on the water!

Schedule a group event with us!

"It's in our best business decision not to open up full-time this summer like originally planned. We will, however, continue to schedule and lead group events through September. There is the possibility we will be open on the weekends starting in late August."

Thank you Mr. Congressman. I agree should i face a terminal illness it should be up to me and my family as if i get to try experimental drugs. Its not for the Govt to automatically deny us those drugs. We have a right to save our lives in anyway we can or choose. Thank you!

Joe here is some more fodder for your story on the Kayak Landing from Channel 47 WMDT. The funny thing is Jake Day failed to mention that the ramp was build last year for that Stand Up Paddle Board company that promised to open and they never did. Jake Day is a joke. Look at those Goobers who are City Employees looking stupid in those four Kayaks. Look at Julia Glanz's fat ass in the kayak looking at the camera looking like "am I done yet" and wearing dress clothes for work.

City launches new kayak ramp

SALISBURY, Md. - A big announcement was made at the Salisbury Marina Thursday afternoon, the official launch of the new kayak launch ramp.

The city says this new ramp will provide new opportunities for leisure along the Wicomico River.

The ramp is two years in the making, and was installed by the city's operations crew. This is one of many initiatives the city is undertaking along the river including new housing.

"When we undertook a few years ago the branding process for the City of Salisbury, we asked our citizens what is Salisbury to you," said Salisbury Mayor Jake Day. "And time and time again participants mentioned that they felt like we are a river town, they mentioned the Wicomico River."

As of right now it is a BYOK area, or bring your own kayak. Eventually there will be a spot where folks will be able to store their kayaks.

Here's more on the Kayak Launch Pad again from WBOC. Funny how again Jake Day fails to mention that he had the same press conference just in time for Memorial Day Weekend last year as if people forgot. It's the same land ramp and launch pad he built for Capital SUP who never got off the ground because there was no customers.

This is a story for you to post on another one of Jake Day's business failures. Your choice, I did all the work for you.

New Kayak Launch Pad in Salisbury Hopes to Get the Community Outdoors

Updated: May 24, 2018 6:54 PM EDT

SALISBURY, Md.- The City of Salisbury opened their new kayak launch pad on Thursday afternoon at the Port of Salisbury Marina.

The pad provides space to put kayaks in the water before taking off into the Wicomico River. Salisbury Mayor Jake Day says it's giving the community a new way to explore outdoor leisure activities this summer.

While the launch pad does not provide kayak rentals at this point, the city says they hope to have a new boathouse by next summer at the marina. The boathouse is set to have a paddle board company with rentals and space to store equipment inside.

Cherry Woote lives next door in the Rivers Edge Apartments. She says she loves being in the water whenever she can, but doesn't have her own gear yet.

"I would be out here probably every day, during the summer I'm like a fish so I love to be in the water," Woote said.
