Troopers Arrest Two for Drugs During a Home Visit- Laurel
Laurel - Troopers of the Sussex County Governors Task Force (GTF) and Probation and Parole Officers responded for a home visit which led to multiple drug arrests.
On Friday, February 9, 2018, at approximately 2:40 p.m., members of the GTF assisted Probation and Parole with a home visit in the 600 block of Little Creek Apartments in reference to a Level 4 Probationer, 24-year-old Joseph R. Palmer of Laurel. Upon GTF’s arrival, contact was made with Palmer and another tenant, 26-year-old Ebony Hopkins of Laurel, outside of the residence. Palmer was immediately taken into custody for being out of the apartment which was outside the scope of his home confinement agreement. Probation Officers then entered the apartment and conducted an administrative search. During the search the following items were located: approximately 251.29 grams of marijuana (in bulk and in small packages for distribution), approximately 12.63 grams of cocaine, and numerous drug paraphernalia including plastic bags and a digital scale.
Both Palmer and Hopkins were transported back to Troop 5. Palmer was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver-Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver-Marijuana, Conspiracy 2nd, and two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $32,400.00 cash only bond. Hopkins was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver-Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Deliver-Marijuana, Conspiracy 2nd, two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Maintaining a Drug Property. She was arraigned out of the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on $35,400.00 secured bond.
