Preventing Veteran Suicide

The Department of Veterans Affairs is leading a summit on mental health and preventing veteran suicide. The summit will bring together community partners, veteran service organizations, veterans and families. The summit will also invite clinical leaders in suicide prevention and mental health from the VA, the Defense Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The purpose of the summit is to share knowledge and determine clearer paths forward to preventing veteran suicide.

Be careful. I know a man in Salisbury deemed "mentally unstable" and his guns were seized. He was an engineer who served our country in Vietnam. He surveyed bridges and such and gave the go-ahead for our marines and equipment to move in certain areas. He was effected by the war, don't get me wrong - but unstable to have a rifle to hunt deer? He had asked for assistance in his medical costs and that is when they moved in on him. They wanted his family to move his assests to go to his "care" that he would be receiving.

Having a commander-in-chief that isn't an idiot would go a long way toward reducing the suicide rate, along with fixing the absurd rules of engagement..

Anonymous 7:54 That's a stupid comment.... everyone's opinion matters. I served 21 years in the U.S. Marines and I defend anyone's right to participate in the discussion.

One way to halt or slow this trend down is for our representatives to stop obsessing on refugees coming to the US and start taking better care of the men and women who sacrificed and fought to retain our freedoms. Only when we can adequately assist people that are legal citizens and veterans can we start opening our altruistic arms to other nationals. For the time being, Americans, veterans and civilians, should be our government's first and only priority.

You people totally amaze me. The only way to prevent this is to actually care about them. 99% of us if we had it to do over again would say screw you all, all your feel good patriotic BS. We get home most of us scared for life and the very ones we are sent to engage have more rights than us. Immigrants have over run the blue collar job market and forget about the VA helping in any way. Get ready America life as you know it is changing and you fools think your too big for it to happen. Some of us can survive without all the abundance can you??
