Police officer a suspect in fatal shooting of Smithfield man in Md.

WALDORF, MD.

Authorities plan to name a second suspect — an off-duty law enforcement officer — in the fatal shooting last week of a Smithfield man at a McDonald’s in Maryland.

The second suspect works in a neighboring jurisdiction, said Diane Richardson, spokeswoman for the Charles County, Md., Sheriff’s Office.

His name will be released during a press conference later this morning.

Robert Michael Mange, 25, had gone to the restaurant in Waldorf with his wife, 24, to pick up her two young children, the Associated Press reported Friday.

A woman got into Mange’s car and shot him, then shot his wife who was trying to run away, according to a news release on the sheriff’s website. Mange's wife was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
