OCEAN CITY UNDER WINTER STORM WARNING

(January 21, 2014) – Ocean City is currently under a Winter Storm Warning. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, VA, Ocean City will experience snowfall accumulations between 5 to 8 inches and north winds averaging 20 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 40 to 45 miles per hour. Light snow will begin by noon and continue through the early afternoon. The period of heaviest snowfall is expected Tuesday afternoon through the evening.

The Town of Ocean City’s Winter Storm Plan is in effect and the Emergency Operations Center is partially activated. Liberal leave for Town of Ocean City employees has been authorized as of 2 p.m. today and all Ocean City Recreation and Parks programs scheduled for this evening have been canceled. Also, the regularly scheduled Mayor and City Council Meeting for tonight has been canceled, however; all items on tonight’s agenda will be rescheduled for the January 28 work session or the regular session on February 3.

Due to the combination of heavy snow, gusty winds and very cold temperatures, travel is strongly discouraged late today and tonight. If you must travel, please use extra caution and follow these winter driving safety tips: http://ocpdmdinfo.blogspot.com/2014/01/ocean-city-under-winter-storm-warning.html.

I'm willing to wager two dozen donuts of your choice that Ocean City gets no measurable snowfall. Any takers?
