The Salisbury Fire Department will be participating in a block party at the Princeton Avenue Service Center, Saturday, October 16th, from 10am-12pm. The block party is being sponsored by Allen Memorial Baptist Church. In conjunction with our recent Fire Prevention Week 2010 campaign, the Salisbury Fire Department will be handing out free smoke alarms and batteries to those in need, as long as supplies last.
Pastor Bruce Glisson, Pastor of Outreach at Allen Memorial Baptist Church, says, "I have assisted families who have been devastated by fires. I have seen what a difference a smoke alarm can make."
Approximately 65% of reported home fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms at all or no functioning smoke alarms. Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a fire in half. The Salisbury Fire Department urges every home to have at least one working smoke alarm. Make sure your smoke alarm has working batteries by testing it at least once a month.
The Princeton Avenue Block Party is a free, family oriented event. The Princeton Avenue Service Center is located at 117 Princeton Avenue, Salisbury.

Thanks for posting this but just a minor correction. Tomorrow the 16th we'll be going through the Princeton Ave area passing out invites to the Block party which is Oct 23rd from 12-4pm. Some of the teams tomorrow will have Fire Dept. volunteers who will have batteries and smoke detectors.
Better wear a bullet proof vest if u go!
what a great idea! send all these goodie two shoes into the 'hood to get mugged. hall-e-lu-jah....
How sad that people cannot see past their own nose and realize the people that live in this area are still PEOPLE fashioned after God's own hand and are valuable to Him, they are not animals! These people are precious in God's sight - we ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Some have it rougher than others and react to life situations differently depending on their background, trauma, etc. Violence is certainly not the answer, nor are derogatory remarks towards those of us who care about our city and the people in our city... but God IS the answer! Why be so horribly ugly "Anonymous?" You are obviously very bitter and I am sad for you. I am no better than anyone else in this world, but I do have Christ's love to give, and yes, that includes you!
