Water Tower Struck By Lightning
Due to a lightning strike Sunday, June 20th, the water tower on College Ave. lost power and cannot be monitored electronically so the Water Plant Operators are manually checking the water levels. It may be possible that the water will overflow occasionally. If you see this please contact the water treatment plant at 410-548-3199 or after hours the operator on duty at 410-713-8290.

WILL DO Joe!
Water tower are hit by lightening constantly without issue since they are the ultimate grounded lightening rod. Someone is blaming equipment failure on nature. Nice try.
5:45 - lightning causes equipment failure all the time. inform yourself
Just how old is that antiquated tower anyhow? It looks to be 100 years old and ready to fall down! I bet it's the oldest and most run-down water tower on the eastern shore...what a joke Salisbury has become!
The power was out in that area Sunday night. It could be that it wasn't a lightning striking the tower that did in the electronics, but lightning hitting a transformer or whatever else caused the power to go down. In any case, it's better for the city to get out in front of this thing then to have a ton of angry calls when/if the tower overflows.
Actually, the overhead bridge tower is older.
Right now the water treatment plant is building a million gallon storage tank (not tower) on Naylor Mill and there is a 3 million gallon tower being planned for 2012.
while troubleshooting the equipment failure, I found the transmitter that sends the tank level signal to the park wtp had its output fried. the phone co. found the half-ringer in the nic to be blown open. the surge came through the phone line, most definitely. as for how, let's set up a commission to investigate, no wait, it seems we all ready have one.
btw, all fixed now.
