I Have Some Questions About This

"Ribbon Magnets will be for sale before the candle light vigil on Jan 1st at the Salisbury Park. Proceeds will be going to Missing & Exploited Children's Association of Maryland."

First of all, why doesn't it say ALL Proceeds? Folks, this came from a message on Face Book and I'd like one of their representatives to e-mail me confirming ALL proceeds go to this association or I will put the word out that someone is trying to make a profit off the sale of these ribbons. I just want it made very clear.

I believe the vigil will start at 6:00 PM. Salisbury News will be present.

You are right, Joe! There are hustlers and scam artists coming out of the woodwork. The love of money is the root of most evil.

You go Joe! You should have been an undercover detective ! Good Question!!!!! EW

From their website, I don't see anything special about them. They, like other non profits, only need to spend no more than they generate in costs. I don't personally see what an awareness organization like they are would be of much benefit to anyone over here on the shore. Most people here are now aware of the sex offender problem.

If it makes you feel good to put a magnet on your car, buy one.

ALL the proceeds are going to Missing and Exploited Children Association!! I have a picture of the poster that is being put up with all the ribbons on my Facebook so maybe if you do a little more digging before you go plastering stuff on here you would know the truth!!

Waiting to see what you find out before I buy one.

Thank You Al but they're NOT the ones promoting the magnet.

In fact Folks, I have spoken with the director of this event and they have NO IDEA who's doing this.

I have NOT received a reply from the individual/s pushing the sale of such said items, therefore I would NOT trust the money is being donated like ALL other groups are providing.

When we're contacted in advance, we know it's on the up and up. We check them out as well as their banking credentials and clearly, (so far) this group does NOT check out.

You're welcome to purchase whatever you like but to this point you should be aware that there's absolutely no guarantee funding will truly go to Sarah's siblings.

anonymous 8:54, Nice Try! Once again you come on here using anonymous. Get one of the principals to contact me and we'll consider supporting it. Until then we will not support the sale of those items and let me assure you your sales will drop dramatically.

I am a member of MECA. This organization has existed in MD for over 25 years. It began with a couple women in Baltimore who had abducted and/or missing children. They have been the backbone behind a LOT of legislation in MD involving missing and exploited children. They are very closely affiliated with the Maryland Center for Missing Children (run by the state police) and many other police agencies. They hold conferences every year to train state social workers, teachers, police agents, etc. about various new programs involving the missing and exploited. They run a hotline for parents of missing children to call for support and direction. They (along with other missing person agencies) put on yearly events such as a ceremony on National Missing Children's Day (May 25th), and a yearly weekend event in Ocean City to spotlight the missing children in this state. They go to schools and educate children on safety, attend a yearly conference for missing children (this is where they bring what they learn to police and other people who work with missing children), hold vigils, set up booths and community centers and fairs, and much more.

The cost of the ribbon is 5$. I have talked to Anne by phone from MECA who was one of the founding women. I invited her down to this event but she said she would be unable to make it. I also talked to Pat who runs the support groups for them. I talked with her for a few moments and she was so grateful for what we were doing. I hope others will see that we are good hearted people just trying to help the community so nothing like this happens again. I informed both women that we would be donating the money in Sarah's name.

Do everyone a favor ALbero..don't go there snapping pictures for your own benefit. Post any and you'll regret it.

what a ridiculous threat, pictures of a community that cares enough to go show it, and that is for Joes benefit? This is a great site, I swear, who ARE these people?

Shame I couldn't be there tonight to watch the chicken hide from Joe. Joe does lots for this community. I'm glad he's on our side!
