Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy Arrested
Wicomico County Sheriff's Deputy Joel Arnold was arrested last night for domestic abuse charges. Joel had a disagreement with his live in girlfriend and things simply got out of control.
Joel has been suspended with pay and was released by a County Commissioner on his own recognisance. The entire investigation is being done by the Salisbury Police Department.

Simply out of control enough for him to be arrested.
Simply gets a paid vacation.

I guess in this case simply out of control Domestic Abuse is rewarded.

He will simply lose his job, his career, and possibly go to jail. At least has the same chance as anyone else to go to jail.

My heart goes out to the officer who has ruined his career with this incident. My heart goes out to the Sherriff's dept. who has lost a brother.
I bet if it was a SBY police officer, you wouldnt have said "simply" got out of hand, but that it "completely" got out of hand, and that it was because the Mayor and Chief are to blame.
Things simply got out of control.
They dont say that when they go to arrest someone else that is fighting with there girlfriend.
The nay sayers never remember one good thing a man does. They never forget the one bad thing. I wish this man well he has some deamons slay. The men and women that have witnessed this man's work ethic will not forget him for other reasons. Good Luck. God Speed.
The word simply was not a wise choice of words this is far from simply.
Arnold will be the first to take his punishment. He will not pass the blame or use his position to attempt to skate justice as some in political positions have. "Oh I drank to much wine at dinner". This man has integrity and will take the full responsibilty for his actions.
Those of you who have been so pristine and perfect in life need to contact the vatican they can use your help.
I in no way condone violence or the breaking of the law. It just seems to be total bullshit that two deputies will lose careers over alcohol related incidents in a year. The so called "Head Of law Enforcement" never missed a beat and went to North Carolina on vacation to"Clear his head" and came back to "prosecute" "Judge" those who have done the same thing. I guess this is America home of the haves and have nots.
SBY Police are pressed harder because their chief is a leader that is not a good example.
Mike Lewis holds himself and his staff responsible for their actions. They screwed up and they will pay now for that. Ruark yes screwed up but he can now speak from experience and will continue to conduct himself and his staff with pride.

I don't even know you, buit what if I brought charges against you for assult, do you think that you should loose your job and pay? You lose your pay and job when you are convicted. The difference is charges are not always convictions. Anyone can charge anyone else with a crime. It's for the courts to decide, not you..... not me. In the USA you are inocent until convicted.

He was probably released by a court commissioner... not a county commissioner. Just FYI.

Those who live in glass houses and think they are so perfect. We do not know what happened and we should not judge anyone. The police officers of Wicomico County are very good ones they are out there trying to protect you. What credit do you give them when they are being abused by the drug addicts the gangs the ones who rob you and get shot at. But you are so perfect you can judge them when you have no idea what happen. May god be with the officer hopefully he will get help and not loose his job we need all the good officers we can get with the crime in Wicomico County.
Innocent until proven guilty people. I know this man and he is a great person. Let the investigation proceed and innocence may be found. Sometimes a woman scorned can cry wolf and causes many a great man to lose everything he has ever worked for. I wish you the best Joel!!

Not defending cops because I just never do that, but it could be a very disgruntled woman who knows how to work the system.....
Yeah, sometimes things get out of control with the wife and I, but she is usually yelling in pleasure not yelling for the police!
Where are you people from? Iran? I'm pretty sure there aren't many true American posting comments here. In America, you are innocent until proven guilty. It may well turn out he was guilty, but until our system that our forefathers created and time has tested finds him guilty, he is innocent. You can't fire someone and take away their income for something they "might" have done.
You know, there were many an innocent person hung in the old days by people just like you all. They were called lynch mobs and history doesn't regard them well.
You should step back and think about the crap that springs from your fingertips onto the keyboard. One day, you might just be sealing your own fate.
Joel is a great police officer in general. His years of dedication to law enforcement and prosecution of criminals and drug dealers in the Salisbury and County areas are unfortunately undermined by what occurred. However, he is innocent until proven guilty. We support you Joel. I also support the female that was allegedly assaulted. Least us not forget her and who she is.
Both are part of my thoughts. Joel and other party keep your head up. There is more to life then this little corner of the world. There’s an entire world out there to explore. Adapt and overcome. To other brothers in law enforcement: Don’t forsake these brothers. Don’t talk smack. Be a brother to those who need brothers. All of us have been in situations where we needed someone in blue to talk to. Don’t think that a bad situation can’t happen to you. Joel is a good police officer and has done a damn good job for this county and it’s residents.
Stop talking trash about fellow law enforcement officers. Support each other. Don’t talk smack about rank and file in your or other departments any longer. Time for unity as we enter trying times for all law enforcement nationwide with soaring police murder rates and rampage killings. Wear your firearm off-duty. Back up each other. Adapt and overcome.
Read the charges on case search. I was informed by a WCDC officer that he also tore up a city police vehicle. Explain how someone else did that to him.

I am 12:59 and I stand behind my comments, knowing what happened! I don't think less of Joel or the victim! But you cannot deny when he tore up the SPD car that he needs help! I don't think he should have a job at the WCSO anymore! Bottom line! It may have been an isolated incident but it doesn't make it right! He was a great cop! All great cops get pushed to their brink at one point or another! His time has come to find a new career, as sad as that is!
I know Joel and the victim. They are the happiest couple I know. This was just an isolated incident. Both parties are experiencing tremendous guilt and want nothing more than for their lives to get back to the way they were.
Cops are only human, they don't have super powers. The crap they see on a daily basis would make anyone a little bonkers. Alcohol was the catalyst in all of this. I know they both love each other and are going to get through it together. Joel is by no means a violent person. He is one of the best damn cops that the Sheriff's Office has. This was NOT the case of a scorn woman but 0f a woman who had to do what she had to do for both parties involved
Thoughts and prayers are w you Joel. Joel is one hell of a cop and one that you would want backing you up any day. Joel is a professional that has been caught in an unfortunate circumstance. I am sure if he is guilty he will take responsibility for it and take his punishment like a man. No one needs to bash him, he has probably saved countless lives through his carreer. One should not be JUDGED by one incident, especially when no one may know what is going on behind closed doors in someones personal life. Joel I hope you make through this because Wicomico County needs all the great cops they can get. Cops are human too and they screw up too. Just so happens the consequences of cops screwing up are much more harsh than that of the average citizen, as well they should be. Cops are held to a higher standard, as well they should be. But don't judge someone until the allegations have been proven. And no matter what the outcome of this case is, I still respect Joel as one of the best cops I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
AS it has already been said. The whole glass house thing. It must be nice to walk the line everyday, and never mistep. It is never ok to abuse someone. I am sure that this officer understands that...hell it is his job to enforce it. We all make mistakes. Its easy to pass judgement on someone when we aren't in the situation. This man is a stand up guy, and a great friend. Perhaps he has lost his footing. I dont justify his behavior. But he will take his punishment like a man. Its a sad day for The Sheriff's office. To possibly lose a another brother.

You've been a great cop and i have the uttemost respect for what you've done for my county. Keep your head up and better yourself from this.
I also heard that Joel was tazed by deputies because he was completely out of control. The innocent part i agree with, but he was also charged for tearing up a city patrol car. That was typical criminal behavior and if he could not control his anger with other officers, what does he do with the general public? He obviously needs help, but he just should not be allowed back in law enforcement.
