Concerned Alumni

"Dear Joe,

I am writing you because of my disgust of non action taken against the Salisbury football players who were involved in the Oct. 5th incident where several players were arrested for assault, disorderly conduct, and drug possession. Yes at the time Coach Wood said these players were no longer part of the team and awaiting
disciplinary/possible expulsion from the university, but when a week or so had passed the school did not discipline these individuals nor were they off the team. i am a former college athlete but i was always held to higher standards because i was a representative of the university. I feel that because these individuals were African American athletes who cried racial equality to there coach they were given preferential treatment. I know this because i was involved in the original event
that occurred on Oct. 5th. These individuals cursed fought and yelled at arresting officers saying that there coach would get them out of this and that they would not be held accountable, and in the end it looks like they were right. When representatives of the Monkey Barrel went to talk to Coach Wood about what happened he refused to speak with them and instead sent one of his Graduate Assistants out to relay the message he did not want to hear what they had to say, and that he would be going on the words of his players. Now i am someone who usually turns the other cheek and would count this whole incident as a lose, but now after reading your blog on Dec. 19th i am infuriated.

On December 19, 2008 at approximately 7:46 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police Department Community Action Team executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence on the two hundred block of Newton St. During the execution of the search and seizure warrant the officers recovered quantities of suspected “crack”/cocaine, suspected Marijuana, unauthorized prescription medication, and a handgun.

ARRESTED: Justin Taylor Sykes, 22 years of age Salisbury, Maryland

CHARGES:
Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute
Possession of marijuana
Possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute within 1000 feet of
a school
Possession of cocaine
Possession of CDS/Paraphernalia (2 counts)
Possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking
Possession of a firearm while engaged in drug trafficking

DISPOSITION: Released to Central Booking
CC # 200800042131

This individual is on the football team was the individual who was arrested on Oct. 5th for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, along with 4 other charges. The house the police raided is known as a "football" house where parties occur and other social activities involving the entire football team. Other individuals in the house were football players who also were involved in the Oct. 5th event but were
not arrested because they had nothing in there possession according to an officer who was on scene and is a close friend of mine.

Now i write this all to you because your site is the most honest and uncorrupted news source on the shore.

Thank you"

Stories from a bitter (still) backup player

This is a COLLEGE student????????? My seventh grader writes better than this! He capitalizes "I", and the first word of each sentence. He also knows when to use "there" and "their".
Look out, America, our coaches and teachers are allowing this to happen, and these people are going to be running things soon.

NOT stories, Coach, FACTS.

Barry, I'm a little surprised at you. Did you happen to catch the point of this story? Help me believe you're smarter than that?

Why not hold the coaches and trhe students and coaches to a higher standard? Because its racial and the heads dont give a chit.

Since students are being arrested by the college and city police. The college no longer disciplines them through the school like they used too.

How is it that 14% of the population of this country has suddenly become immune from any criticism or punishment no matter how much it is deserved? Why are they entitled to free everything without working for it?

10:00, It's called "no child left behind" and it produces this end product. Drugs for dummies, and look the other way.

sounds to me that this coach is the "dirtbag"...setting another fine example for our youth

What was his bond???

Well at least they are young college athletes being let off the hook and not the people at the Cecil County SPCA.

The insidious and decaying thread that has weaved itself throughout our society. Apparant in all social and economic classes from the heads of companies, government, the haves and the have nots.
Crime pays, cheating, lying--it all pays. There is very little moral compass left.
What a shame. What we are moving toward is complete anarchy. Lawlessness and blamelessness; the order of the day.
Absolutely disgusting.

We have elected to POTUS a man that refuses to release his college grades, refuses to show his birth certificate or passport and who lied about his relationship with a couple that tried to bomb the Pentagon under the guise of "war protest" Not to mention his dubious rise to the top with the help of Auchli,Soros,Dailey etc. The L.A.Times refused to show a tape that proved his association with a radical Islamist terrorist. And you wonder why certain ethnic groups are emboldened and empowered now?

I will say this. I played under Mike McGlinchy as did Sherman Woods the now Head Coach. If in fact Woods kept these players on the team after official police reports from the Monkey Barrel incident indicate crimnal activity, then he should have taken action. One can only guess what Woods true connection to these players may be. The comment stories froma bitter still back up player speak volumes of what the teams mentality is. Stand my white brother. I feel you are 99% right if they were white they would have been cut. Now one of them at a "Football" house is selling crack cocaine among the host of other drugs. This is a D-3 school not U.S.C. Coach if you need players that bad then maybe your recuiting is lacking in a big way. This takes away from the honor this college had years ago. The D-3 programs are true student athletes. There is no scholorships so I guess it is O.K. to sell crack, assault police officers, kick other students around and basically bully the community. I dont think this would be tolerated even if you won the Stagg Bowl. I observed your jellyfish schedule this year and it was obvious the glory days you and I played in Coach Woods are long gone. As for this kid drawing attention to this criminal hiding among your team I suggest you do something right away with his companions as well. There is no room at the University for this type of behavior and there sure as hell is no room in Wicomico County for this. As for the brotherhood taking care of the brotherhood. Stand tall White America there is no shame or guilt here. Have a Delmarvalous Day !!!

Better than using his daddy or grandaddy to get into college, and then finish at the bottom of his class.

The one thing I can say is the African Americans stand together. Lets put this right where it belongs. 14% stood together and got the man elected. White America is to greedy and selfish to stand together on any issue. Example 10 A/A girls beat up one white girl at the movies. See they stuck together. The 300 whites there that night did not jump in. Hmm I see this all over the country. It is a current trend that is poisoned our society. White America be proud I dont know about you but I did not own anybody. I dont care about a 100 year old crime that was committed by some. If you want to go back to the mother land load up and go the freak home. I am American period. I dont care what color you are if you call yourself African American you are in fact a racist period. The title itself is offensive to me. I dont hear Irish Americans stating I am Irish or Italian or American Indian. You know why they are proud of their hertitage, but they are Americans. Some days ago it stated in a post that the American Indians were given land for the crimes committed so why not give it to the African Americans. You allready have it wake the hell up. I pay taxes when I work my sixty hour work week. If you want a free trip home and I suggest you do your home work before you take that trip home, then fine. Things in good ole Africa are not that great right now. The American Indians were here they were slaughtered and the land taken. Real big differance in that they did not sell one another to the white man.

I don't believe this was written by a student at all! Joe, do you know who wrote it???

Anonymous said...

You think Coach Woods will be bailing out his afro american football player?

Anonymous said...

Who cares who wrote it if it is true

I know exactly who wrote this, and he is a student, a graduate of SU and a former football player. Either way black or white these people were out of line.
