Massive Brawl Breaks Out At Monkey Barrel

Last night there was mayhem at a local Salisbury Bar where things got completely out of control and your beloved Salisbury University was once again the center of attention.

I'm sure Monday night the Mayor will be giving out proclamations to the entire Football Team trying to settle things down but here's what happened.

It turns out, the stupid idiotic Coach of the SU Football Team allowed not only his team to go to this Bar but the opposing team as well. Dee, Dee, Deeeee!

The next thing you know, the Manager of the Bar is calling the Salisbury Police as a massive brawl broke out, DUH!

Things got so bad, ARE YOU READY, Wicomico County Sheriffs Department, Maryland State Police, Delmar, Fruitland Princess Anne and the entire squad of the Salisbury Police were called in. One Football Player punched Officer Kenny Wilson square in the head for no reason whatsoever.

At one point mace was used to calm things down and one of the girls had to be taken to the Hospital because she has asthma and had a bad reaction to the mace.

All in all there were six men and one woman arrested and sadly, although this happened last night, the arresting Officers who were supposed to get off at 3:0 AM are still at the Police Department right now as I type this because their system crashed last night and they're having to process each person by hand.

This sports crap has got to come to an end. Team Players were yelling, nothing is going to happen to us. The Coach is going to get us off on everything. Even the Coach seemed to allegedly be upset with the Police.

Fortunately no one was seriously hurt last night but to pull every single resource you have out for a SU brawl, this needs to stop and it needs to stop NOW! Perhaps the City of Salisbury needs to start charging SU for their time as well as any other Police Department having to respond to such nonsense.

I am curious why you would say the coach "allowed" both his team and the opposing team to go to the bar? First it is a free country, if the people are over 21 they can go or not go..their choice. I have never heard of an opposing team having to get permission from the other teams coach to go to a bar..seems you may have just a little bit of a personal interest in this story.

SU students are out of control. I live near the university and the other day 2 students walked by my house and threw trash in my yard. I asked them to pick their trash up and the next thing you know they are calling me a bitch. In addition, they went on to say that I am white trash who must be from Salisbury (mind you I have a master's level education). How funny for them to call me white trash when they disposed of their trash onto my property. Obviously these kids think they are above the people of Salisbury and think they can do whatever they want. The university should be held accountable for the actions of their students. I am sick and tired of them destroying our neighborhood with their loud parties, empty beer cans and arrogant attitudes.

I heard the other day that Benedicts is the next target for acquisition.

More and more property is being removed from the tax rolls.

There should be some kind of legislation imposed on this State institution to reimburse the local City and County Governments for the lost revenues. It is staggering what has been wiped off the public doles.

I'm a middle aged female, so have personally never had an experience being part of a collegiate football team. I have a couple of questions, rhetorical I'm sure.
How much responsibility does a team coach or manager have for the team members, while at home, in the evening after a home game? I would not expect that a college team was comprised of all over-21 members, so an after game field trip to a local bar would seem to be an event not sanctioned by the coaching staff. Blame the coaches for them being there? Probably not.
NOW, as for expecting better behavior from students of the university, and holding them responsible for any damage, absolutely. The lacrosse players who were convicted last year were ultimately deprived of the priviledge of graduating. Bad behavior from college students, regardless of the circumstances is unacceptable. I'm anxious to hear how this is dealt with. Ed Cowell, are you listening? The neighborhoods surrounding the university are listening, too.

Joe, SU played away at Apprentice which is in Virgina, how were both teams in Salisbury at the Monkey Barrel?

Here we go with the BS again. My sources, (who were in the middle of it) say this is how it went down and who were involved. I guess it never happened, right?

Anonymous said...

That's a fantastic idea! I never thought of that, and it's entirely possible for the city to do it. Charge the University for every city and state resource that is needed due to criminal activity that comes from SU students.

Having played D-II football I can tell you our coach had very strict guidelines for conduct and where you were to go/not go for your entertainment, dress codes etc... SU is a school of liberal, entitlement minded staff from the President down and it will aleays be this way or worse with that kind of leadership.Lock these bone heads up and throw the book at them they are after all adults and have rights to be prosecuted.

Was the Salisbury University Police there to assist?

Each and everyone of these players that were involved in the meleigh(sp) should be terminated off the football team and expelled from school. That bar is a well known establishment supported by Salisbury University students and their poor conduct is a reflection on the University? If the coacher were there they need to be terminated as well.

If they are found quilty of law breaking and stupid drunken non-sense charge them more.

Wow go Salisbury, Yeah Seagulls Prove to the area that college jocks are more superior and better humans. Not to stereo type all students but No matter what the situation if your an a-hole you should be removed but I guess that's why I don't do bars anymore. Ok to be realistic take all the teams and remove them from competition if they back players or individuals that are idiots, SSU lacrosse will get no more donations because of the idiots that the students say "got a bad deal"

Whether or not the students or team members cause problems, the University should be paying into public safety, they certainly want and deserve it. Some are targets of criminals so I'm not going to go down sounding anti-University.

Someone should figure out how much our emergency personal (police and fire, EMS) costs per citizen, then apply a fee to the University to cover the costs to keep enough officers, firemen and other services on hand in relation to student population.

This too, will also benefit the students that have been targets of criminals. If you want protection you have to pay for it, it shouldn't be up to the citizens of Salisbury to pay for protection of University students. We are all in this together, they just need to pay their fair share.

And don't give me that "Well they contribute so much to our local economy" BS either. Public safety is an entirely different problem than just the population increase and use of all our infrastucture.

SU used to be a great place. Kirstie Alley sold all of you down the (polluted) river just like Barry Witchface. Snakes are usually only poisonous near the head. Any questions?

Anonymous said...

Not only do they throw there trash
on my property, but they threw an egg on our second floor window last year as a prant or plain meaness. Then this year they shoved a beer can in my daughters tailpipe when visiting and pulled out a smallbush out front, roots and all and plunked it right in front of our front storm door so we couldn't open it without a struggle. They also throw their beer bottles against the sidewalk where they break and are left. I think the University has to get these children under control. And that has to start right from the President! Start by kicking the trouble makers out of the school.

Please do not lump all of us SU students into the same category as those who start bar fights and throw garbage in your yard. The University does alot of good for this area.

They bring in guest speakers, art exhibits and other activities of public interest. SU also has Fun Day every fall and The Big Event every spring to try and bring the university and the town together.

I will not deny that there are students who will act like morons but they are in the minority. Most SU students are hard-working, giving individuals who do not want to disrupt the local community.

joe albero said...

Let me ask you a question anonymous 12:25.

Why do you people come out of the wood work AFTER something like this happens. Oh, it's not all of us. We're so innocent and there are just a few bad apples.

IMHO, obviously the Coaches of the Teams there at SU have no control over their people. This wasn't one or two people screwing around and harming people. There were many.

If SU cannot get control of the problem, simply remove ALL sports from the University and PROVE you actually care about the Citizens in which you place borrowed time with.

Chiefy Webster should demand such changes but he's more like a Mafia Soldier who won't rock the boat, just does what he's told to do and goes home with a great paycheck.

Just another bad day in Salisbury, like most others. Like I said, the Mayor will be giving away cirtificates and bullshitting the citizenry soon by making statements like she did at the last council meeting stating how wonderful the LX Team is to the community. I threw up a little in my mouth once that was said and it clearly proves how crooked the woman is and how much she'll lie on television. At least this time she was wearing a bra.

Well said Joe. I will provide candor here. Back in my day ( I now sound like "Grandpa" in the "Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road Joke."), we didn't go bat shit like this (and I can guaran-damn-tee we consumed as much as these guys-we drank tequila and whiskey, not those girlie little Shirley Temple shooters you gobble down these days)because we KNEW we were drinking in a bar/someone's home UNDERAGE...and we policed our own because back then the bar/home owners had the balls to ban our sorry butts forever if we so much as cracked a barstool. We policed our own out of respect for the community, but I'll be serious-we also did it selfishly wanting to make sure we would have a place to relax when the time was right. A lot lot lotta' blame should go directly on the University Pres (avon lady?),coaching staffs of these programs, and quite honestly the BAR OWNERS THEMSELVES. I know many at SU adopt the now traditional "8 year program," but where I live now those IDS would have been checked big time (What the entire football team now consists of 21/22 year olds?). I tended bar for a few years in OC, and is someone here really going to tell me that no bar representatives noticed "The Look Of The Werewolf" and tequila-induced tough talk that immediately proceeded this crap? THIS is what those pathetic little responses mean when you see a comment such as "give them a break these students bring SO much money to our economy." Load up on the po-po in the Cheers/Thirsties parking lots on Thurs-Sat.....they are spending (Daddy's) money all right-on cases, kegs and smokes (right after SU squeezes them for a laughably high tuition that they will be strapped with student loan payments on for the rest of their lives). The rest of us are expendable.

If, as you say, the: "students who will act like morons but they are in the minority" actually are in the minority, why does not the majority stand up and demand that these "morons" be punished and preventive measures taken to reduce the amount of negativity heaped upon the heads of all SU students?

Granted, "The University does alot [sec] of good for this area. They bring in guest speakers, art exhibits and other activities of public interest. SU also has Fun Day every fall and The Big Event every spring to try and bring the university and the town together." As long as these "morons" are allowed to act in such a disrespectful manner to the citizens of this area the reputation of the whole University and all the students will suffer. Time spent in college is a time to not only learn the didactic education but lessons in how to behave like an adult, take the responsibilities of an adult, and be a respectable and responsible member of a community. Granted many members of the University community take this period of learning to heart and endeavor to make the most of their college years. Unfortunately others, which seem to primarily be the "jocks", look to these years as time to run wild, have an exaggerated sense of entitlement, are disrespectful to the citizens and business of this area and to be above the law. I doubt they would act in this manner were they attending college in their home town.

Unfortunately, all the good works of SU are overshadowed by the "bad apples", or "morons" and until the majority of the students and the administration of the University look beyond the label of "sports hero" and take positive corrective action the whole of SU and all the students will suffer the negativity from the community regardless of the number of "guest speakers, art exhibits and other activities of public interest. SU also has Fun Day every fall and The Big Event every spring to try and bring the university and the town together" and the gap between the students and the citizens will grow ever wider.

When I lived near the college, it was not unusual to awaken and find beach towels stolen off the clothes line, beer bottles and trash in my yard, front and back, and trash in my swimming pool in my fenced and posted back yard in the warmer months as well as trash and beer bottles in my yard in the cooler months not to mention the loud, boisterous, and obviously intoxicated individuals in cars and on foot at all hours of the night.
Signed:
A Salisbury Citizen who is thankful not to live in close proximity to the college any more.

Where is the outrage by the citizens of Salisbury? Where is the outrage by the government of Salisbury and Wicomico county?

This type of behavior needs to be dealt with swiftly and with the highest amount of punishment possible. The heads of the university need to take immediate action against all involved including any coach or advisor. The notion that they can abuse alcohal and cause massive unrest and destruction to a city that most don't even call home is reprehesible.

Charge the University for every penny of the cost of the services rendered by law enforement and fire/medical. I hope the prosecutors charge the max and the judge sentences the max. Allowing for this type of behavior will ultimately lead to something much worse, and quite possibly death. Nip this in the bud before that happens.

The chief of police needs to be fired. He has absolutely no desire to combat the crime, no desire to help grow his officers and orginization, and he could care less about Salisbury. I hope the next mare make it a requirement for department heads and such reside inside the city limits. In most cities, you have to be a resident to be employed by them. If Salisbury would do this, there would be much more concern and pride in the jobs because it directly affects the neighborhood they live in. Most police, fire, ems, and so on live outside of the city limits. They treat the city like a job. One they punch out, it's somebody elses problem. Chiefy webster and see both live away. One lives far away and that is unacceptable.

...I think the University has to get these children under control...
12:20 PM

First lets get one thing straight, they are not children. Although they act like children they are full grown adults.

The first thing this County needs to do is pull some political strings and get rid of the Great Hyphenated One. She, like Barrie Tilghman is the root of most of the problems. The GHO has singlehandly got her and her family off of may criminal offenses. Her son went on a rampage running from the University Police driving through private yards and tearing up the landscaping. These criminals need to be sent back to where they came from.

Well I liek the fact that you pass this extremely biased man as a credible news source.
1) Salisbury University contributes over $350 million annually to the Lower Eastern Shore economy and generates the equivalent of 3,000 local jobs, according to an economic impact study recently released.
-SO howabout The City should pay the university to stay here.
-thats very nice of of us concidering Wicomico County is one of the poorest counties in the country
2) With your way of thinking, Maybe the city of Salisbury should get charged for all of the gangs going to Ocean city and starting fights. When a 400 person brawl breaks out in a nightclub in Ocean City Between 2 rival Salisbury gangs, The city of Salisbury should be charged.
3)Howabout everytime a student gets robbed at gunpoint, they charge the city for thier losses.

Here is what the rest of the world thinks about your Beloved City
http://www.homesurfer.com/crimereports/view/crime_report.cfm?state=MD&area=Salisbury

"Salisbury, Maryland is in the 100% percentile rank in the state for Violent Crime. It is in the 99% percentile rank nationally. Lower numbers are better. In this case, 100% of cities in Maryland have crime rates equal to or lower than Salisbury, or said another way, 0% of cities in Maryland have crime rates higher than Salisbury."
--NOONE WOULD LIVE HERE IF THE UNIVERSITY WAS NOT HERE
get off your high horse and thank every college student you see for making an economy here.

Yoru super credible sources fo rthis news outlet are totally wrong because Salisbury University was AWAY. AWAY. Not here, I doubt they invited the opposing team to travel back to salisbury after the ROAD victory 48-17. So who knows what else is wrong in this article.

I am not saying the fight was right, And lawbreakers should be punished. But stop bashing students, and look at how violent your own population is. Salisbury is a dangerous city to live in because students are blamed for everything and murderers walk the streets.

Your broke county and city steal our money, through police, targeting us because we have money while locals go to court for armed robbery, use public defenders dont pay thier court fees, and walk loose.

I would love to debate you.

Mardela,

First of all, the MSM needs to cover the event first so the rest of the community knows about it. Police Officers getting punched in the face by kids, nah, don't say anything.

I can hear the telephone call now.

DT.... Mayor, there was a massive brawl with SU Students last night.

Mayor.... Greg, you better not say anything about it or we'll pull our advertising and we won't give you the private scoop on all stories ahead of everyone else.

DT.... OK Mayor, we completely understand.

Now let's try the same thing with Salisbury News.

Mayor.... I understand you have information about the brawl last night at SU.

SBYnews.... Yes Mayor we do. Would you like to comment on it?

Mayor.... WHO AM I SPEAKING TO, IS THIS JOE ALBERO?

SBYnews.... Yes it is Mayor, speak.

Mayor.... Do you want another lawsuit Albero? Would you like me to sick the Comptroller on you again and have you arrested? You better not say a word of this or you'll have trouble on your hands Albero.

SBYnews.... Tha nk you for the quote Mayor. I'll have a bottle of Jack delivere to calm you down after you see the article.

Ring, Ring....

Hello?

Police Chief.... If you process that article Albero I'm going to go to the Daily Times and tall them you're being investigated for tampering with an ongoing investigation. (sound familiar Chiefy?)

SBYnews.... You go right ahead Chiefy. We've already spoken with the Daily Times and they are on top of your game already and they're NOT interested in the same game you tried on Davis Ruark and Hunter Nelms. We'll send you a bottle too.

I bet you wont post my comment because it is actually a ligitamate arguement that does not fall in line with your backwards ideology. The facts are the facts, This is a dangerous city NOT because of college students. I dont feel safe here because the local population is not policed.

I also curious to know why the coach would allow the opposing team to come out with the SU football team when clearly they had an away game. What the opposing team travel on the same bus (idiot). I am also assuming you obvisouly were not there because if you were there you would know that it wasn't a massive brawl because if it was there would be more people arrested instead of what u claimed to be six football players

Carry your ass somewhere safer to live if you feel so threatened by the natives, oh I forgot you are an SU official (is that you yourself Kirstie?) who is willing to sell their soul for a big paycheck to live in "our backwards sewer" because otherwise you would be working at Barnes and Noble. I'm not Joe, but how are MY debating skills so far?

If this were such a dangerous city why would you not choose to go some place else for your education?

Also, if the coach(s) were at the Monkey Barrell with the team(s), why were they not monitoring their charges and intervening?

Were all the students at least 21?

I hope that the student or whomever punched the police officer gets charged with assault of an officer.... regardless of their status.

Anonymous said...

SU needs to adopt a NO Tolerence policy for any charges filed against students..Suspended until their court date and expelled if convicted..This is the case on the job for many so why not the students..And for those who say this fight never happened you are sadly mistaken. Along with the disorderly conduct and assault charges, one player also had "Pot" in his possession. I thought that players were subjected to urine testing for drugs????

Welcome all college students and I also invite each and every one of you to join us at a city council meeting where you can tell the heads of this city you don't feel safe.

I've said it so many times they get tired of hearing me and want to call me names like disgruntled citizen, obsstructionist, one of the dirty dozen yada yada yada

Please students come to these meetings, you live here and help the rest of us get a better policed city, but we need your help to speak up...Please!

I do believe the positives outweigh the negatives, join us to fight for a safer city.

Salisbury has nothing good but the University. Where's all those cops when students get mugged? You can't even drive down some of the side streets off Church Street becaude the "kids" are playing basketball in the middle of the street and won't move. The police won't do anything. Would anyone of you walk the 'strip', on 13 by the motel, late at night? Didn't think so! The city taxed all the factories (do they still exist) out of town. Without the University, Salisbury would really be a slum. A little bar fight is nothing compared to the criminal enterprises that are allowed to exist in Salisbury.

My heart goes out to the SU football team and especially the player who punched the cop! WHAT AN IDIOT! That's the one thing you never do, hit a cop. Now, it's open season on all SU football players. I bet the City police officers know where the football and party house(s)are. So boys, enjoy the rest of your stay in Salisbury.

Both the lacrosse team and the football team are a group of college kids who think their sh!t doesn't stink. They walk around like they own the city. The beloved lacrosse team who has lost 3 players in the last couple years for menacing surrounding neighborhoods, but i guess if they win the championship every year that makes it ok. It is a shame that a bar fight broke out and so many people had to respond. But as for every other night when there isnt a brawl, maybe the police officers around here should focus more on the real crime going on in salisbury instead of worrying about college kids trying to drink a beer on a weekend night. Of all the crime there is in salisbury, thats where the police force is, riding around looking for college parties.......what a waste. I am from salisbury and go to SU and i along with everyone else who is familiar that the real crime in salisbury is not at a college party.

Joe, I was there and yes I am a college student who is ashamed to say that I attend SU with these people. First of all these students/ thugs were completly out of control. There was no other team there, they were fighting with themselves. Certain members of the football team who could not hold their liquor were picking fights all night and finally they got what they were looking for.

The police did everything in their power to get these thugs to leave, but when one of them punched another student for no reason, it went down hill from there. Police attempted to place this first guy under arrest and all his thug friends surrounded the officers. The officers sprayed mace, yes I got a face full, to break the crowd up. Then all hell broke loose. Police from all over, execpt SU police showed up to try to calm this thing down.

These thugs were extremely disrespectful and a disgrace to SU and the football team. They got what they deserve by getting arrested and I only hope the courts and the school will follow suit.

Please don't lump all of us in with these a$$holes. Thankyou to all the officers from all the agencies who responded. SU police you should be ashamed, this was right across the street and you could not come help. WHY?

Ashamed to be SU student

Anon 6:39,
You are right about one thing-all around the city on some side streets you get cussed out if you dare to interrupt a street ball game to drive thru. And there are local hoodlums but that does not give SU students carte blanche to get drunk and high and go out and cause trouble. That makes them no different than the local thugs, only the local thugs do not have "resources" to expunge their criminal records.
Despite other negative effects of less students, I cannot help but mention that if there were less college students in town, maybe landlords would be forced to actually make the rents affordable for families rather than renting by the head at gigantic rates. If SU students feel victimized or disenfranchised, perhaps they should take Tims advice and attend a council meeting.

Anonymous said...

8:58 get a clue, officers respond to these parties because they are called by neighbors. So you want the officers to go fight real crime, then control your parties so they can fight crime instead of dealing with drunk college students. Trust me they would rather be doing anything else then dealing with college parties.

The fact that certain details of this "massive brawl" are inaccurate is enough to recognize that this news blog shouldn't be considered a legitimate news source. Moreover, readers are wasting their time by debating/reacting/"soap boxing" an incident that was poorly reported. CNU is 2-3 hours from SU, and while the Monkey Barrel may be entertaining, I'm certain members of the CNU football team did not drive up Rte. 13 to bar-hop in Salisbury. Instead of trying to provide the scoop, investigate your facts and sources so your readers are fully informed. By the way, Coach Wood and Coach Berkman are outstanding members of the community and well-respected for their teaching, educating, and coaching throughout the NCAA community. Every college campus throughout this country is challenged by student conduct, and Salisbury feels like Oz compared to many other college towns around the nation. Of course, the owner of a legitimate news source would report that to better educate their readers and present an unbiased, impartial story. Props to the reader who identified that the adult bookstore located two doors away from a youth boxing club should be more of an issue to the community. Why not challenge the Mayor about that instead of her support for SU athletics??

-----------------------------

So SU students should pay more for protection? This haincedent happened off campus in a public place, as do many crimes against the students. In your wisdom then all citizens should be paying for protection. That is what taxes are for. These students ( or parents) pay enough in tuition to warrent protection on campus as well as off as resididents(albeit temporary) of Salisbury.

And to the idiot who posted that the University should be held responsible for actions of the students off campus... well... you are an idiot no matter if you have a masters degree. Thats like holding your employer accountable for your actions when you are off work.
One last thing, I do believe the University does come down hard on students who get in trouble off campus, which I totally disagee with. Off campus is exactly that... no jurisdiction of the University. Thats why many live off campus to get away from campus rules. If they break the law and get get caught then it is up to the county laws to prosecute them.
Enough of rant...

I, myself, am a senior now at Salisbury and was not personally present at the brawl but did hear a number of stories regarding it. I don’t know where some of you people get off saying what you have about how SU students behave and the punishments we all deserve. Yes we do have a few ‘rotten eggs’ that go to Salisbury and they do make us all look bad, but at the end of the day you have to remember we aren’t all like that and also feel the consequences. I live in the area and don’t always feel safe but I wouldn’t change my mind about coming here because Ive had an amazing education and made friends Ill have for the rest of my life. I will however say that Salisbury Police does not do their job as well as they could with the rate at which innocent kids are getting mugged and beat up. I have friends who got mugged who are the nicest people and certainly didn’t ask to be held at gun point and had their stuff stolen and never had the culprits caught. For once Id just like to hear that they caught a bad guy and threw him in jail instead of throwing a bunch of football players who may have been drunk and bumped into the wrong person or reacted the wrong way.

O and for you ignorant idiots who think we should be charged for the resources we use, I pity you all. That’s what they are there for, they get paid to do their job, or lack thereof. I don’t think the use of outside help for one night was asking too much. I’d like to think if there was a big fire in Salisbury, the Fruitland police/fire dept. wouldn’t say “O sorry, you didn’t pay us for that last 3 alarm fire we helped you put out, good luck with that.” We are simply divided by location, not by the services we provide. I thank the departments who went out of their way to assist in resolving the problem at hand, much like I thank people from all over who go to help Hurricane victims.

So please talk all the trash you want on SU because half of you people really have no idea what you’re talking about no matter how much you believe you do and the others are severely exaggerating their uncalled for opinions in order to get ‘their point’ across. And before I forget, the head coach of the SU football team is not idiotic nor stupid, I have had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with him and certainly believe him to be a very respectable man.

Please respond if what Im saying is wrong, Im open to feedback from whomever.

Instead of blaming SU for all the problems in the community, why not take it a steap farther and find the parents of these individuals and give them a good spank them. Mind you, SU educates around 7200 students and brings much revenue to the Salisbury University. How can the University be completely responsible for each and every single student in the community. They have civility campaigns, outreach programs, and counseling services for all students, but they can not force a student, who happens to be an adult, to attend any of these. You can only hold SU responsible to a certain point.

The University Police is a full-fledged police agency recognized by the state of Maryland with all the authority of the Maryland State Police, Wicomico County Sheriffs Office, Salisbury Police etc.

They do carry guns, as well as batons and mace.

But you are correct, the Monkey Barrel does not fall under the jurisdiction of the University Police, hence the reason they did not respond.

the city of salisbury is a bunch of racist pricks out here. i was at the bar and i noticed all they were arresting were black men. There were a bunch of white people involed in the brawl and some how none of them got arrested or went to jail. I also noticed a bunch of white cops brutally beating on a black football player. its like rodney king all over again!!!

12:05. Because in retrospect we all know what an angel Rodney King was....read how much of a solid citizen he was AFTER everyone gave him a second chance. Last I heard, he was scheduled to star in Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Get used to the hats and bats boys, your "pity passes" expired after the LAX crimes last year. BTW if you were at the bar, why didn't you help get your own savages under control before things got out of hand?

I can not believe that all of you people are so pig headed! Saying that all of SU students are bad is ridiculous!! The only time you hear about SU students is when something bad has happened. What about the good things they do? Haven't you all ever been 21 and out drinking at a bar before? You can not tell me that if one friend was confronted by someone else for dancing with the other persons girlfriend that you wouldn't "have his back" too. This kind of behavior happens all of the time--not just with SU students. Unfortunately the only time anybody pays attention to it is when it is SU students and they can then bad mouth the university. These football players are adults not 15 year old kids. The coach is just that the coach--not a baby sitter. The coach can set rules for his team and if a member breaks those rules he can make them pay the consequences but he can not be expected to be responsible for all of the players actions all of the time. I repeat-- these players are adults!!!! They should be punished. When they were at the bar, they were there personally not as the Salisbury Football Team. They were there with their buddies having a few beers. If you and your buddies were at a bar and something happened where you had an altercation--would you employer be blamed for it? I don't think so. SU does alot for our community--don't blame them!!!

you call yourself "Gods Gift to man"
Rodney king was not the most good citezin and i dont doubt he was breaking the law, but he did not deserve to get assaulted. am guessing your not black so you wouldn't be able to comprehend what a black man goes through in white america.

9:22 from last night: Please call the police department and leave your name and number for whoever is investigating. Also, please contact the Dean of Students' Office so that these agencies can get an honest account of what happened from an obviously honest, independent third party. The accusations of racism, brutality and such being lodged against the police need to be set straight and good people like you should come forward to clear those officers and make sure the violators are punished for their CRIMINAL behavior. Thank you for your honesty and please do the right thing.

seven kids were kicked off of the football team and out of the university. the person who instigated the fight(not a football team member) wasn't arrested and was the one who started the fight. the football player was helping a girl who was being pestered by a guy. so he tries to help, a fight breaks out and it's SU's fault?

hat happened? Did one of those power officers get their ass kicked? HAHAHA I hope the rest of them get their asses kicked! They need to treat people with respect to get respect!

The police around here are out of control, especially the Wicomico Sheriff's Department. I have heard many stories about these officers and from good sources..remember this..They have only one black officer! Does that tell you anything. I also have heard about them assaulting white kids. You won't hear about it here on Salisbury News. You will only hear it about the city officers here. You will see more officers get struck in the future. Alot of them think they are above the law.

Joe Albero has a source at the WCSO! They are liars and Joe thinks they are great. File a lawsuit on those officers and they will quit beating people. They have done this since Mike Lewis has been Sheriff!

You all just look for something negative. You thrive on it!

1 bad egg and you want to shoot down a fine SU athletic team. Get a clue! I am sure bar fights is the #1 reason why students practice hard everyday and play a college sport.

Go rant about how much you love McBush or something.

Bring a Div 1 size University to Salisbury and watch what really could go wrong.

LOOK, quit downplaying this whole thing, ALL of you. There were, (COUNT THEM) SEVEN Polic e Departments called out to this fight. Get a grip, SU Students that night were out of control. I'll add, one of them punched a Police Officer right in the face.

"Rodney King was not the most good citezen." Nice...No I am not black. Although I am Down With OPP. And it was one of your little similarly educated fellow players that called me God's gift to man. I gotta' admit, I liked it. Rodney King needed to be beaten several times in his life. I was also in LA a couple weeks after those riots (when your momma' was still wiping snot off your nose-based on your apparent education skills, she may still have to help you from time to time), and maybe you should clean the house of your own race before you go pointing fingers about who played the fool back then (Reginald Denny?). And as for your written comment that Wic. Sheriff (actually the best group of officers/deputies we have)can expect to get hit more-please take video when that happens; and remember, you are obviously too slow to play for a real football program so I don't think your dumbass is going to be able to channel the spirit of Usain Bolt to get away from their dogs. Have a blessed day.

Joe's account of the fight has been reiterated by news story after news story following this pathetic event, so his sources were pretty correct. The staff of the bar reported to the police that the football players had been instigating fights all night. Obviously management would not have called the cops to their own bar if the level of disturbance created by these individuals was minimal. But of course nobody seemed to care or comply when they were asked to leave the premises, because in their eyes they were above the law, which is probably why one of them hit a police officer in the face. There is never an excuse for hitting a police officer; any logical person would deduce that action would result in arrest and subsequent consequences from the University. Believe me these boys are made aware of what the rules and regulations are regarding their behavior both on and off the field and they chose to ignore them. No matter how mad you may get, you can always walk away! Especially with so much on the line! It just takes a little self-control and less alcohol consumption. The case information also states one of the individuals arrested did have marijuana on his person. Facts are facts. Try and defend that. Righhhhttttt…so everyone else is responsible and maybe the weed fairy just slipped that into someone’s pocket! Please! Do not blame the Police. Yes, it is true that the SPD may not be the finest in the nation, but in this instance it seems like they did what they had to do. My heart goes out to the coaching staff and the fans. This weekend they had to find out the hard way that their team obviously doesn't take football and the guidelines that come with playing a collegiate sport too seriously.

It appears this Joe character has nothing else better to do with his life and time then post blogs. It's people like him that give society a bad name. A wise man once said if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. Nonetheless, I hope Joe keeps in mind that "what goes around comes around."

Get a life JOE!

8:08. "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Are you that large of an idiot? Have you even considered the meaning of democracy or the Constitution? Put your blindfold and earplugs back on and return to living under your rock of denial. And the wise man who created that saying is laughing his/her ass off at you!

Ok so it's Joe and bloggers like him that give society a bad name? Last time I checked blogging was a victimless crime, unlike the person the other night that punched a police officer in the face and got arrested for disorderly conduct. Honestly, who would have anything nice to say about their illegal actions?
