Ford's 2020 Explorer for police has hidden lifesaving design feature
“And four times is actually low. I know a trooper who has been hit more than 10 times,” Shaw said. “You can probably talk to any state trooper. It’s not a matter of if, but when. People just aren’t paying attention out there, and sometimes they’re impaired with alcohol or marijuana or even their cellphones. Maybe they’re just gawking. And our troopers are getting hit.”
Police say that officers being maimed or killed while investigating accidents or conducting traffic stops is a rising danger. Sometimes, drivers strike a parked police vehicle, pushing it toward officers working on the roadway. Other times, officers are still inside their cars when they are struck.
"I actually climbed over a median wall. You get used to it," said Shaw, 54, who has been a Michigan trooper for 24 years. "We’re trained to pay attention to what’s going on around you. You have one eye on the crash site and the other on what’s driving toward you.”

The best-selling police vehicle in America will soon be faster than ever.
In head-to-head testing, the new Ford Explorer-based law enforcement vehicle will be the fastest cop car on the street, according to new preliminary test data from the Michigan State Police based on a 32-lap dynamics test.
“The fact that a big SUV can smoke a Hemi Charger around a racetrack is pretty ridiculous. The 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is a beast,” said Chris Terry, Ford product communications spokesman.
“When a car blows past you at 120 miles an hour, you need to get that person off the road as quickly as possible in the interest of public safety," he said.
The Dodge Charger had the quickest acceleration at lower speeds — 0 to 20 mph, 0 to 30 mph, and 0 to 40 mph. But the Ford Police Interceptor had the best times going 0 to 50 mph, 0 to 60 mph and 0 to 100 mph.
A heavy SUV going faster than a fast sedan in a pursuit ratings test is notable, Terry said.

Justin Fairfax placed on leave by his law firm after rape allegation
Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax has been placed on leave by his law firm as it investigates the sexual assault allegations against him.
Washington, D.C.-based Morrison Foerster "has retained outside counsel to conduct an investigation. During the investigation, Justin Fairfax has taken a leave of absence from Morrison & Foerster. Justin has agreed to cooperate with the firm’s investigation," Larren M. Nashelsky, chairman of the firm, said in a statement.
A number of prominent Democrats, including former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Virginia Sen. Mark Warner, and several members of Congress have called on Fairfax to resign but it could be that financial pressure is what forces him out.

A pregnant woman had some major beef with a New York restaurant.
New York City police are searching for a woman who was caught on camera smashing a restaurant’s windows and front door in the Bronx with a bat after she allegedly found out the eatery ran out of the beef patties she was craving.
The unidentified woman went to the Back Home Restaurant about 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 15 and ordered a beef patty, but an employee told her they ran out, police said. Upset by the news, she left the restaurant and came back with a bat and began smashing the store’s windows and front door.

Texas Police Form Wall of Vehicles to Help Border Patrol Stop Caravan Migrants
“Texans ask: what’s going on at Eagle Pass?” Governor Abbott tweeted. The governor’s tweet includes a photo showing a large number of DPS vehicles lined up with Border Patrol vehicles along the Rio Grande River near the border community.
In addition to the strong law enforcement presence, President Donald Trump re-assigned 250 active duty military personnel to the Eagle Pass area to assist in securing the border region that has no physical barrier infrastructure in place.

Obama's Energy Secretary Shoots Down Green New Deal: 'It's Just Impractical'
Ernest Moniz, former energy secretary for President Barack Obama, weighted in on the newly introduced Green New Deal during a Friday interview with NPR, calling the plan "impractical."
"All Things Considered" host Ari Shapiro asked Moniz if the Green New Deal's goal of eliminating the U.S. carbon footprint in 10 years is attainable.
Moniz said a version of the Green New Deal, one that pursues "very low carbon and social equity," is "exactly what we have to do," but he said the plan introduced by Democrats this week is "just impractical."
"Now, when we come to the Green New Deal, I'm afraid I just cannot see how we could possibly go to zero carbon in the 10-year time frame. It's just impractical," he said.
Self-described democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D., Mass.) released an outline of the Green New Deal on Thursday. New York City Catholics and abortion opponents voiced outrage Saturday over the lack of justice for an unborn child who was killed in Queens.
Queens District Attorney Richard Brown recently charged Anthony Hobson with murder for allegedly killing Jennifer Irigoyen on Feb. 3 — but said hecouldn’t bring charges over her unborn child’s death due to a recent change in abortion law.
“It’s evil,” said a nurse attending Mass at the Church of St. Agnes in Midtown. “It’s a progressive slippery slope.”
“I’m enraged,” said Rose deMarco, 78, of Greenwich Village. “That was murder. [Hobson] murdered two people and he should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
Irigoyen, 35, was five months pregnant when Hobson, 48, allegedly stabbed her multiple times in the abdomen.
He was initially charged with abortion in the second degree, a felony under the state’s previous statues, as well as second-degree murder for Irigoyen’s death.
But the Queens DA’s office withdrew the abortion count when it learned theReproductive Health Act, signed into law last month, moves abortion from the state’s criminal to public health codes.
That “means it’s open season on pregnant women in New York,” said Dennis Poust of the New York State Catholic Conference.

'Virginia Vise’: With Lt. Gov. Not Quitting Over Sexual Assault Allegations, Democrats Continue To Implode
The dumpster fire that is Virginia state government continues to burn. It has decimated the governing leadership, as well as the Virginia Democratic Party. State Attorney General Mark Herring and Gov. Ralph Northam both admitted to wearing blackface. Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax is now besieged with allegations of sexual assault. The second woman came forward Friday, which Fairfax strongly denied. He was equally vociferous in his denial regarding the first allegation, which he said was a consensual encounter. In less than a week, the Virginia Democratic Party has been decimated.
