Everyone is taking way too much ibuprofen
Many adults who use ibuprofen and other so-called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs take too much, increasing their risk of serious side effects like internal bleeding and heart attacks, a new study suggests.
About 15 percent of adults taking ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) or other NSAIDs like aspirin, naproxen (Aleve), celecoxib (Celebrex), meloxicam (Mobic) and diclofenac (Voltaren) exceeded the maximum recommended daily dose for these drugs, the study found.
“NSAIDs are among the most commonly used medicines in the US and worldwide,” said lead study author Dr. David Kaufman of Boston University.

Jerks force LL Bean to ditch world’s best return policy
LL Bean is tweaking what may have been the most generous return policy in the world.
Calling out a “small, but growing number of customers” who abused the no-questions-asked policy, the outdoor gear and apparel company will limit returns to one year after purchase — and require a receipt, it said in a letter to customers.
“Some view [our guarantee] as a lifetime product replacement program, expecting refunds for heavily worn products used over many years,” wrote executive chairman Shawn Gorman, who is the great-grandson of founder Leon Leonwood Bean.
Gorman said in the letter that “others seek refunds for products that have been purchased through third parties, such as yard sales.”
The change in the longstanding return policy by the Freeport, Maine, company, which has a cult-like following in some places, drew more than 1,000 comments on its Facebook page.

33 pounds of fentanyl – enough to wipe out Massachusetts – seized in Boston
Boston authorities said they seized more than 33 pounds of fentanyl—enough to kill millions of people—in connection with one of Massachusetts’ biggest drug busts ever.
In announcing the results of a six-month wiretap probe called "Operation High Hopes," prosecutors said the synthetic opioid was being sold on the street by a drug gang with links to Mexico’s notorious Sinaloa Cartel, the drug organization once led by Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán.
“I want to be clear about the size and scope here,” District Attorney Daniel Conley said at a news conference Thursday. “Massachusetts’ fentanyl trafficking statute covers quantities greater than 10 grams. That threshold represents less than 1/1000 of the quantity we’ve taken off the street.”
He said the number of overdoses the seized fentanyl could have caused “is truly staggering.”
“Individuals who buy and sell at this level aren’t users,” Conley said. “They’re not small-time dealers, either. They’re certainly not selling to support a habit. They’re trafficking in addictive substances that claim more lives in Massachusetts than all homicides, all suicides, and all car crashes, statewide, combined.”

Battlefield acupuncture? Yes, the military is using it to fight troops’ pain
The U.S. military has added the ancient holistic therapy of acupuncture to its arsenal for fighting opioid abuse in the ranks.
The practice, which first originated in China about 8,000 years ago, provides immediate relief for acute and chronic pain, and, without the risk of addiction, can be used without any restrictions.
One of the most popular forms used in the military has been dubbed ‘battlefield acupuncture,’ or BFA, because it’s simple to administer and easily transportable, according to Dr. Richard Niemtzow, who developed BFA in 2001. With BFA, service members can continue to participate, unimpaired, in work and life.
“They don’t have to wait hours for medications to take maximal effect or endure side effects, like drowsiness or allergic reactions, of common pain medications,” said Air Force Col. Lynda Vu, who recently administered BFA while deployed in Qatar. “This allows personnel to go back to the fight with minimal impact to continuing mission operations.”

Invasive 20-pound rodents increasingly burrowing into California
A giant invasive rodent with the ability to destroy roads, levees and wetlands has been discovered in Stanislaus County.
Weighing in at 20 pounds and measuring 2 feet, 6 inches long, plus a 12-inch tail, the nutria live in or near water. They're also incredibly destructive.
“They burrow in dikes, and levees, and road beds, so they weaken infrastructure, (which is) problematic for flood control systems,” California Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Peter Tira said.
When nutria aren’t burrowing, they’re eating. They can consume 25 percent of their body weight each day in vegetation, but they waste and destroy 10 times that.

White House did not deny release of Democrats’ memo: Rep. Nunes
Rep. Devin Nunes, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and author of the controversial Republican memo alleging government surveillance abuse during the 2016 presidential campaign, said on Sunday the White House did not block the release of the Democrats’ rebuttal to the GOP note.
“What they did is they said, ‘look, you need to make some redactions and some technical corrections here and we will get it out right away.’ Now from that point, we’ve heard nothing but crickets,” Nunes, R-Calif., told Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.” “Their memo is sitting at the House Intelligence Committee down at the bottom of the Capitol waiting to be redacted. If they really wanted to get it out they’d be down there all day yesterday redacting it, getting it back over to the White House so that the public could know what’s in it. So this is nothing but politics,” he added.

Flashback: Democrats Defended Sen. Sherrod Brown Against Wife Abuse Claims
When Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel noted in 2012 that Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) had been accused of abusing his wife, liberals accused Mandel of abusing women by raising the issue.
Rita Smith, executive director of the Denver-based National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, declined at the time to criticize Brown. Instead, she defended Brown’s voting record on women’s issues. And she told an interviewer that Mandel’s attack on Brown was “‘actually abusive,’ because he is putting Brown’s family, including his former wife, in a negative spotlight, ‘and that is abusive of women.'”
That is how many Democrats really feel about politicians who abuse women. As long as they have a “D” after their names, and vote for abortion, they are almost incapable of abuse.

*Update* Troopers Investigating Serious Crash-Millsboro
Millsboro - The Delaware State Police are investigating a serious crash that occurred at the intersection of Dupont Boulevard (US 113) at Town Center Boulevard, the entrance/ exit to the Peninsula Crossing Shopping Center.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:06 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 as a Volvo tractor pulling an empty enclosed box trailer, operated by a 63-year-old man from Birdsnest, VA was traveling south bound on US 113 in the right lane just north of the entrance/exit to Peninsula Crossing with a green light displayed. A 2013 Nissan Altima, operated by a 26-year-old female from Dagsboro was in the east bound left turn lane exiting the shopping center with a red light displayed. The operator of the Nissan was believed to be turning onto north bound US 113. For unknown reasons the operator of the Nissan failed to stop for the red light and entered the south bound lanes in front of the Volvo. As a result, the front of the Volvo struck the left side front door of the Nissan. After impact, the Volvo continued south and came to rest across the grass median. The Nissan was forced in a south, easterly direction as it rotated counter clockwise across the median and coming to a rest in the north bound right lane of US 113.
The 63-year-old operator of the Volvo was properly restrained and not injured as a result of this crash.
The 26-year-old operator of the Nissan was removed from the scene by Emergency Medical Services and transported to the Beebe Medical Center prior to being transferred to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition.
Impairment does not appear to be a factor on behalf of either operator. The roadway was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours while the investigation was conducted and the roadway was cleared.

A guest at a Kentucky hotel was in for a surprise Wednesday when he discovered more than 650 high school choir students singing a rendition of the national anthem.
Garrett Mager, who was staying at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville, woke up hearing a lot of commotion in the lobby and decided to investigate, WSB reported.
Mager discovered that all the high school choir students participating in the Kentucky State Choir Finals were staying at the hotel, using their downtime to perform “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Violent Somali Rapist Told Teen Victim She Couldn’t Be a Virgin ‘Because She’s White’
A Somali national has been jailed after he held a sharp piece of wood to a teenage girl’s throat as he raped her.
Ahmed Abdoule said the girl could not be a virgin “because she was white”, and told her “my country would love you” following the attack, was given an 11-year sentence at Hull Crown Court the Hull Daily Mail reports.
Reports have not indicated how long Abdoule will actually spend in prison and the court has not responded to a request for information, but if the sentence follows the standard formula he will likely be released after roughly 5 years.
Despite his racial contempt for the victim, the Abdoule’s crime does not appear to have been treated as racially aggravated, which could have meant a tougher sentence.

DACA ‘Dreamer’ Wanted for Alleged Murder of Texas Store Owner
An investigation by a Houston television reporter revealed that the man accused of murdering a store owner is allegedly an illegal alien who is currently under President Barack Obama’s DACA amnesty program. The “Dreamer” is currently on the run after allegedly killing the store owner and shooting another man.
An investigation by ABC13’s Jessica Willey reports that accused killer Judas Deluna, 21, is an illegal alien who is currently under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) amnesty program. The program allows undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents to receive temporary protected status from deportation. The federal government is supposed to conduct a criminal background investigation prior to adjusting the immigrant’s DACA status.
Deluna may have obtained the DACA protection despite a prior history of felony arrests and convictions.

New Bill to ‘Protect’ Journalists Is Unnecessary Political Pandering
On Monday, Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and several other Democratic congressmen introduced a bill in the House that they say is necessary to protect journalists from violent attacks caused by the Trump administration’s “toxic culture.”
The bill, called the Journalist Protection Act, would make it a federal crime to intentionally cause bodily harm to a journalist, either while the journalist is taking part in newsgathering, or with the purpose of intimidating or impeding the journalist’s newsgathering.
The maximum sentence for a conviction is six years in prison for causing severe bodily harm, or three years in prison for causing lesser bodily harm.
Swalwell says this measure “helps ensure law enforcement is able to punish those who interfere with newsgathering.”

SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah State Senator says a woman may have tried to entrap him at his hotel room, and lawmakers are asking for a police investigation.
Sen. Evan Vickers, R-Cedar City, told reporters he was getting ready to leave his hotel room at the Little America on Thursday night when a woman knocked on his door.
"I opened the door and there was a young lady standing there and she said 'Hi,' and I said, 'Hi, who are you?' And she said, 'I’m your date.' I said, 'No, you’re not.' She said, 'Yes, I’m your date.'"
Sen. Vickers said the woman refused to leave and insisted she was his "date."
He locked his door, and called a legislative colleague to walk with him out of the hotel. By the time that lawmaker arrived, the woman had left.

Recently, Open the Books filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (pictured) for all federal employee names, titles, agencies, salaries, and bonus information.
We’ve captured and posted online this data for the past 11 years. For the first time, we found missing information throughout the federal payroll disclosures. Here’s a sample of what we discovered from the FY2017 records:
254,839 federal salaries were redacted in the federal civil service payroll (just 3,416 salaries were redacted in FY2016).
68 federal departments redacted salaries. Even small agencies like the National Transportation Services Board and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation redacted millions of dollars in salaries.
$20 billion in estimated payroll now lacks transparency.
A 7,360 percent increase in opacity hides one out of every five federal salaries.
Who’s the bureaucrat in charge? Not a Trump appointee – the president doesn’t even have a current nominee at OPM. So, the buck stops with new acting Director Kathleen McGettigan, a 25-year staffer who assumed the position because she was the next in line, not because the White House appointed her.

Bill Making Houses of Worship Eligible for Disaster Aid Included in Budget Agreement
A bill from Sen. Roy Blunt (R., Mo.), titled the Federal Disaster Assistance Nonprofit Fairness Act, was included in the recently passed Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, making houses of worship permanently eligible for Federal Emergency Management Public assistance grants.
The final text of the regulation reads that any nonprofit facility that provides essential social services to the general public should be eligible to receive aid after disasters.

Dem Senator Who Hit Ex-Wife Sits Out Rob Porter Abuse Scandal
Delaware senator Tom Carper, a Democrat who has admitted to hitting his ex-wife hard enough to give her a black eye, will not be commenting on the scandal surrounding spousal abuse by now-resigned White House official Rob Porter.
The accusations from Porter's two ex-wives of domestic abuse, which were bolstered by a photograph of one of them with a black eye she says was caused by Porter, was the top political story this week in Washington, D.C. Carper, however, has been silent.
"We do not have a comment on Porter," said a Carper spokesperson.

The accusations from Porter's two ex-wives of domestic abuse, which were bolstered by a photograph of one of them with a black eye she says was caused by Porter, was the top political story this week in Washington, D.C. Carper, however, has been silent.
"We do not have a comment on Porter," said a Carper spokesperson.
