Recode has published a report outlining how Democrats are attempting to use contacts within the Tech world to further their political causes.
Recode’s article titled “How Silicon Valley is trying to topple Trump — beginning with a special election in Montana” outlines how the team running the House of Representatives campaign for Democratic politician Rob Quist, “a guitar-toting first-timer in the hunt for Montana’s sole spot,” recruited Jessica Alter, a bay area resident who works to link digital tech companies with progressive candidates and causes.
Quist reportedly didn’t “have a whole lot of help from the Democratic Party’s official organs,” in his campaign and as a result was short staffed, particularly when it came to tech experts. This is where Alter steps in, running a group known as “Tech for Campaigns”..

Arizona Governor Signs Bill To Repeal State Capital Gains Taxes On Gold & Silver
Good news for precious metals investors in Arizona.
On Monday, Gov. Doug Ducey signed a bill into law that eliminates states capital gains taxes on gold and silver specie. It's tax repeal will not only benefit Arizonans who invest in gold and silver, it will also facilitate their use as currency and undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money.
Rep. Mark Finchem (R-Tucson) sponsored HB2014. The legislation eliminates state capital gains taxes on income “derived from the exchange of one kind of legal tender for another kind of legal tender.” The bill defines legal tender as “a medium of exchange, including specie, that is authorized by the United States Constitution or Congress for the payment of debts, public charges, taxes and dues.” “Specie” means coins having precious metal content.

FTC: Illegal robocalls on the rise
BALTIMORE —Has your phone been ringing off the hook lately due to robocalls?
You're not alone.
The Federal Trade Commission has seen a significant increase in the number of illegal robocalls --recorded messages about a product or service -- and complaints about them.
Robocalls can be annoying, if not dangerous. To date, the FTC has brought more than 100 lawsuits against 600 companies and individuals responsible for billions of illegal robocalls and other do-not-call violations.
"The technology that's available for folks to make these unwanted calls is widely available. You can do it from anywhere in the world, and it's very inexpensive," FTC attorney Janice Kopec said.

Woman, 98, has died after nurse purposely 'broke' her leg
A nursing assistant intentionally broke his 98-year-old patient's leg before she died while undergoing surgery to fix it, police say.
Hakim Ogunkunle, 43, is facing aggravated battery charges for allegedly injuring his patient, Edna Warren, while she was under his care on Tuesday, at the Newnan Health and Rehabilitation in Georgia.
Warren was rushed to the Piedmont Newnan Hospital to have emergency surgery, but died during the procedure.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation believes Ogunkunle caused Warren's injuries because of a mismatch between the details of his testimony and the severity of her injuries.

Delaware State Police Carry Naloxone (Narcan) Kits
The Delaware State Police have joined other Delaware law enforcement agencies in carrying the overdose reversal drug, Naloxone, also known as Narcan.
Troopers will begin to carry nasally-administered Naloxone kits on patrol for use in treating subjects suspected of suffering from heroin or other opiate overdoses.
In conjunction with the Delaware Office of Emergency Medical Services, the Delaware State Police implemented a training curriculum and developed Divisional Policy authorizing and monitoring the administration of Naloxone by Troopers.
“As first responders on patrol, Troopers often are the first to arrive on the scene of medical emergencies.” said Sergeant Paul G. Shavack, Trooper Medic Commander and Delaware State Police Naloxone Program Coordinator. “Deployment of Naloxone kits in conjunction with EMS response has proven instrumental in saving the lives of those suffering from heroin or other opioid overdoses and increases the level of service that Troopers provide to our community.”

Wicomico County Health Department Receives Certificate of Promising Practice
Salisbury, MD - The Wicomico County Health Department announced yesterday in a press conference that it has received a Certificate of Promising Practice from the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) for its pilot Community Outreach Addictions Team (COAT). With this certification, the program exhibits the potential for becoming a Model Practice in our nation’s fight against the opioid epidemic.
The COAT team, created in June of 2016, is comprised of peer support specialists who are able to respond to overdose calls and link individuals battling addiction with treatment services. This innovative program has been successful in guiding 56% its contacts into treatment. The success the Health Department has seen would not be possible without the collaborative relationships with Peninsula Regional Medical Center and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office.
County Executive Bob Culver and Health Officer Lori Brewster recognized members of the Community Outreach Addictions Team yesterday for their extraordinary work in reducing the number of overdoses and playing a part in assisting individuals into treatment and recovery.
NACCHO is a national organization that represents over 2,800 local public health departments in the U.S. and provides leadership, up-to-date information, subject matter expertise, and other resources to strengthen local health departments’ program work in a wide array of public health and safety areas.
If you know of someone in need of treatment for a substance use disorder, please call 443-783-6875. For more information on the COAT program, please visit www.wicomicohealth.org.

Mom's horrific Facebook post about the dangers of nail biting goes viral
Many kids often bite their nails as a nervous habit, and while many parents try to urge their children to stop biting, one mom from Louisiana is now warning other parents about the potential dangers of biting your nails.
Last week, Sara Guidry noticed something odd in her son Kale's mouth. Something white was poking out of his gums.
"I get a tweezer and pull it. It looked like a finger nail. I continued to pull 4 more out," Guidry wrote on Facebook. "I then search his mouth and find another area. I pulled around 27 out of the second spot. YES 27!"

Major League heroes brought colourised photos Boston Reds team from 1890
A set of incredible images from yesteryear show a number baseball players dating back to the early days of the Major League Baseball (MLB).
One picture from 1890 shows a team portrait of the now defunct Boston Reds uniformed in their original colors of red and white.
Other images display different teams and players such as Babe Herman a right fielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers long before they became the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1958. Another picture shows the celebrated Philadelphia Athletics player, manager, and later part-owner, Connie Mack draped in a classic overcoat and fedora hat.
Baseball great Mack played as a catcher during a ten year playing career but its more famed for his management skills. He is the longest-serving manager in Major League Baseball history, leading the Philadelphia Athletics for the club's first 50 seasons of play, starting in 1901, before retiring at age 87 following the 1950 season.

Nancy Pelosi complains Trump not visiting countries in alphabetical order
Has Nancy Pelosi completely lost her mind? Or does she just have to complain about everything President Trump does?
During a press briefing on Thursday, the House Minority Leader criticized the president’s choice of visiting Saudi Arabia first during his inaugural foreign trip.
“I thought it was unusual for the President of the United States to go to Saudi Arabia first. Saudi Arabia!” Pelosi said.
“It wasn’t even alphabetical. I mean, Saudi Arabia.”

State police prepare resort leaders for shooting attacks
Maryland State Police prepared several hotel and restaurant leaders for the one event they hoped would never happen: an active shooter walking into an Ocean City business.
During a two-hour seminar on Monday at the Princess Royale on 91st Street, Trooper First Class Stephen Hallman and Sgt. Ted Antal walked Hotel-Motel-Restaurant Association members through various psychological and physical stages of an active shooter or bomber event – and what they can do to fight back.
“Evil exists in the world, so we have to prepare to minimize damage when an incident occurs,” Hallman said. “You may have an emergency operational plan, but when it happens, do you have time to go through the manual? That’s why you prepare people.”
Shooting incidents occur very quickly, he said, meaning there is a need for individuals to be prepared. To illustrate this, Hallman said during the Columbine High School shooting in 1999, the gunmen killed 10 people and injured 12 more in the span of seven minutes.

Petition drive to close golf course in Pocomoke City
Conflicting perspectives about the future of Winters Quarters Golf Course were presented during the Pocomoke City Council meeting on Monday.
Duane Durham, who resides in the Winter Quarters neighborhood, has spearheaded a petition drive seeking to close the course. Despite revamped marketing efforts, from his view there doesn’t appear to be an uptick in attendance.
“Yesterday was a beautiful day and I saw nobody on the golf course,” he said.
Durham said for decades the facility has been a bust to the town’s operating budget.
“There are more important things that this money can be used for,” he said. “The people of this town should be able to turn their faucets on and have quality drinking water.”
For the past two weeks, Durham has gone door to door and collected more than 200 signatures on a petition asking to close the golf course. While presenting the list to council, he noted the consensus was overwhelmingly in favor of shuttering the course.

Date Change Needed For Troubling Weekend
The time has come to moving the spring Cruisin’ weekend event to earlier in the spring season.
Whether it’s held in March or April, it’s likely the same problems seen last week will exist, but the only non-option is to do nothing and resolve that beefing up law enforcement will be able to tame the outside groups from ruining the weekend.
It’s clear the 3,300 registered participants in Cruisin’ Ocean City are not the problem. While they may not always be able to resist the urge to peel wheel or burn out at stoplights, there’s mechanisms in place to hold them accountable. Organizers have given police the ability to yank a registered vehicle’s participation in the daily car shows should there be any major issues.
We believe Cruisin’ Ocean City is a worthwhile event that should stay. The Boardwalk parades and the daily car shows are nice attractions for Ocean City. The problem is over time the event has been riddled with serious safety and quality of life concerns that are not directly linked to it.
