It was the middle of the summer in 1985 when Lea Thompson and her boyfriend went to the famous Cinerama Dome theater in Hollywood to see what was quickly becoming the movie of the season, then the year and ultimately the decade.
When Thompson was cast in the Steven Spielberg production of "Back to the Future" she knew it was a big deal, but it wasn't until that moment that the she realized just how huge the movie was.
"They took us through the backdoor and the theater was completely full and we had to stand," she remembered.
Standing in the darkened movie theater, Thompson, who was 24 at the time, watched as members of the audience reacted to what was on the screen.
"I could see how it played and I could tell that people were just so with it," she said. "You could tell that people had already seen it a couple of times."
Three decades after the film's release, it continues to have an impact.
Friday, Thompson will be at the Maryland Live casino in Hanover as part of promotion celebrating the film's 30th anniversary. She will be on hand to give away a custom-built replica of the film's DeLorean DMC-12 time machine.

Sen. Simonaires want good Samaritan legislation for children locked in cars
The Simonaire legislative duo has requested a bill be drafted to protect people from civil liability when damaging a motor vehicle to save a trapped child.
"With sweltering summer temperatures, no one is safe inside an unattended vehicle, especially a child," Sen. Bryan Simonaire, R-Pasadena, said in a statement. "Providing immunity to everyday concerned citizens will allow fast acting responses to a dangerous situation."
Simonaire and his daughter, Del. Meagan Simonaire, R-Pasadena, are the first father/daughter duo to serve in the legislature at the same time.

POLLS: 'The Trump steamroller' continues to crush GOP rivals — even in their own states
Polls continue to shower good news on real-estate mogul Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
A Tuesday StPetePolls.org survey even found Trump leading two of his GOP rivals — in their home state of Florida.
The poll found Trump with 26% of the vote among Republican primary voters in the state, compared to 20% for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and roughly 10% for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida). Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), with 12%, also led Rubio.
Both SaintPetersBlog and the Drudge Report labeled it a "SHOCK POLL."
Trump reportedly reacted to the poll by telling Breitbart News, "I have always loved Florida, what a great honor."

A Letter To The President
Dear Mr. President,
Where are you? As I sit here at 4:30 in the morning with my-seven-year-old daughter who hasn't slept since our City was attacked by a terrorist who grew up here and called it "Home" for 24 years of his Muslim life..
Where are you? As I sit here at 4:30 in the morning with my-seven-year-old daughter who hasn't slept since our City was attacked by a terrorist who grew up here and called it "Home" for 24 years of his Muslim life..
Where were you? When the families of our five brave men who lost their lives that day were informed of the dreadful news, did they receive a call from you, our concerned, caring, president? I beg to differ. Instead you gave a nine-minute very insincere apology about what occurred in Chattanooga Tennessee. From my heart Mr. President, as a Native Chattanoogan, you have no right to even utter the words of my hometown. When the 9 Church members were
killed in Charleston, why you made no hesitation to scurry there, even rush behind a pulpit even preach a funeral! Then you took it upon yourself to sing the old hymn "Amazing Grace" trying so hard to bring God's spirit into that place and thru the TV screen. Let me be the first poor single mother to tell you Mr. President you didn't fool me. There was no God in your "Presentation", no God in that "Speech" that your overpaid blind-to-your- B.S. Muslim Personal Assistant prepared for you. No no no Mr. President, you see We The People are fed up with you. Instead of being an Honorable
President, and ordering ALL flags at half mass, you didn't order any.
Instead of trying to find out what this idiot had been doing to plan this attack all these months, you go on VACATION. WE SEE where your priorities lie, we see that you don't care these men protected your family as well.

Your 'white' house you live in is surrounded by Secret Service men, all armed. Let's take their guns away, like our service men and women and see how many days you call in sick.
Mr. President..... Where will you be, during the funerals of our five fallen men??? From my heart I say this to you, STAY AWAY, we don't need you now.
HERE IN THE GREAT CITY AND STATE OF CHATTANOOGA TENNESSEE WE DON'T LIKE COWARDS.
WE ARE A COMMUNITY OF STRENGTH, SPIRIT, AND LOVE. HEROES ARE BORN AND RAISED HERE AND WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN!

Helping family and friends: The best ways to make gifts, loans
WASHINGTON — At some point in your life, you may decide to give or loan money, a car or other property to a loved one and/or friend.
Whether you want to make a gift or a loan, there are a few things that will help you to do it correctly and avoid problems down the road with the IRS.
Making a gift:
A gift can be made in the form of cash or other property. Planning to give your adult son $10,000, or your nephew a new car? Those are both considered gifts.
But gifts also include a sale or exchange of property for less than its fair market value. In either event, if you give a gift to someone who is not your dependent, there are rules and limits that you need to know to handle the gift correctly.

Ex-Navy SEAL alleges anti-gay bullying by CIA workers
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A former Navy SEAL has filed an internal complaint alleging the CIA bullied him for being gay during a work assignment in June in Afghanistan.
Brett Jones said he filed the complaint last week against the federal agency, saying he was forced to endure homophobic slurs and other inappropriate comments on June 11 in Afghanistan as a group of contractors and civil servants in the CIA’s Global Response Staff watched news of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage.
He also said he was abandoned and forced to walk in 120-degree temperatures without water while he worked there as a CIA contractor.
Jones, the author of “Pride: The Story of the First Openly Gay Navy SEAL,” said he feared for his safety and returned home early from Afghanistan. He told his story to ABC and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Mia Farrow puts lion dentist's address on Twitter, faces backlash
Mia Farrow took some Twitter heat Wednesday for joining other angry social media posters and blasting out the business address of the dentist who killed the beloved lion Cecil in Zimbabwe.
Some apparently thought the actress had listed Walter Palmer's home address in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, calling for her verified Twitter account to be suspended under the site's terms of service.
A Twitter spokesman said the company does not comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons. He directed The Associated Press to official Twitter rules and policies that allow wiggle room on disciplinary action when information was previously posted or displayed elsewhere on the Internet prior to being put on Twitter.

The Missing Hillary Emails No One Can Explain
There is a two-month gap in Hillary Clinton’s emails that coincides with violence in Libya and the employment status of a top Clinton aide, Huma Abedin.
Among the approximately 2,000 emails released by the State Department from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private account, there is a conspicuous two-month gap. So far, there are no emails between Clinton and her State Department staff during May and June 2012, a period of escalating violence in Libya leading up to the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left four Americans dead.
A State Department spokesman told The Daily Beast that for the year 2012, only those emails related to the security of the consulate or to the U.S. diplomatic presence in Libya were made public and turned over to a House committee investigating the fatal Benghazi assault. But if that’s true, then neither Clinton nor her staff communicated via email about the escalating dangers in Libya during those two crucial months. There were three attacks during that two-month period, including one that targeted the consulate. (Of course, email isn’t the only or even the preferred way State Department officials communicate about sensitive issues—especially if one of those officials is using a private server ill equipped to handle classified information.)
That two-month period also coincides with a senior Clinton aide obtaining a special exemption that allowed her to work both as a staff member to the secretary and in a private capacity for Clinton and her husband’s foundation. The Associated Press has sued to obtain emails from Clinton’s account about the aide, Huma Abedin. So far, the State Department has rebuffed those efforts. Nor, understandibly, did Foggy Bottom turn over any emails about Abedin’s employment status to the Benghazi Committee, which asked only for Libya-related material.

VIDEO: PLANNED PARENTHOOD DOCTOR ON HOW TO AVOID GETTING CAUGHT SELLING BABY PARTS
The latest video released today shows Dr. Savita Ginde of Planned Parenthood talking to buyers from a fictitious company about how to avoid the appearance of violating federal law against selling fetal body parts that are the result of abortion. Ginde talks specifically about how to avoid getting caught.
“Because if you have someone in a really anti- state that’s going to be doing this for you, they’re probably going to get caught,” she says.
Ginde talks about how she’s very confident that Planned Parenthood lawyers had worked out the details on how not to get caught. “We talked to him in the beginning, you know, we were like, ‘we don’t want to get called on,’ you know, ‘selling fetal parts across states.’ I’m confident that our legal will make sure that we are not put in that situation.”

Rep. Mark Meadows: From 'Fat Nerd' to 'Rock-Ribbed' Boehner Opponent
North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, a conservative Republican who has introduced a procedural move to try and unseat House Speaker John Boehner from his post, has gained a lot of confidence since his self-described days as a "fat nerd" during high school in Tampa Bay, Florida.
"It’s tough. When you grow up as a fat kid, everybody makes fun of you, and all you want to do is fit in," the second-term congressman told the Smoky Mountain News in 2012. "When you run for office, people say stuff. It, at times, can step on pains. We just want to like everyone and be liked."
The evangelical Christian and real estate developer from western North Carolina is known around Washington for being "collegial" with both sides of the aisle, though Politico reports that Meadows is also a "rock-ribbed conservative" with a rebellious streak.
"He’s among the cadre of conservatives who earlier this year launched the House Freedom Caucus, which has been a hotbed for scheming against leadership," according to Politico. "He voted against Boehner for speaker on the House floor in January — one of 25 Republicans to do so. He also cast one of just 34 Republican votes against a pivotal procedural move on trade.
In June, Meadows was briefly removed from his chairmanship as retaliation for opposing a procedural trade vote.
Meadows has couched his move to unseat Boehner, which he initiated Tuesday, as a way to spark a "family discussion" within the GOP "about how the House is run," according to Politico. Punishing members who don’t tow the party line is unacceptable, he said.

Governor Larry Hogan Announces Closure of Baltimore City Detention Center
Addresses Men's Detention Center's Long History of Corruption, Appalling Conditions, and Waste of Tax Dollars
ANNAPOLIS, MD - Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the notorious Baltimore City Detention Center (BCDC) - Men's Detention Center will close immediately, bringing to an end the facility’s long history of corruption, appalling conditions, and waste of tax dollars. The closure of the Men’s Detention Center will dramatically improve staff, detainee, and public safety conditions, while also saving Maryland taxpayers millions of dollars per year.
“For years, Maryland taxpayers were unwittingly underwriting a vast criminal enterprise run by gang members and corrupt public servants," said Governor Hogan. "Ignoring it was irresponsible, and one of the biggest failures in leadership in Maryland history. That is why today, I have instructed Secretary Moyer to immediately shut down the Men's Baltimore Detention Center."
The Baltimore City Detention Center made national and international headlines in 2013 when it was revealed that a number of employees at the state-run facility had allegedly collaborated with a Baltimore jail gang, the Black Guerrilla Family, to smuggle drugs, cellphones, and other banned items into the jail. It was also discovered that gang members were using contraband and intimidation to orchestrate crimes inside and outside jail walls. More than 40 people were indicted, and last February, five were convicted in this massive jailhouse corruption scheme.

Larry Hogan, Maryland governor, to close Baltimore City Detention Center
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said he plans to immediately close a Baltimore jail where corruption was so bad just two years ago that inmates were said to run the facility.
“This facility is done. We will not be using it again,” Mr. Hogan said Thursday at a press conference held outside the Baltimore City Detention Center.
The 156-year-old jail houses hundreds of inmates awaiting trial or serving short sentences and the governor said those individuals would be transferred shortly to other area facilities. He declined to say exactly where or when the inmates would be moved for security reasons.
