Historian Says Don't 'Sanitize' How The Government Created Ghettos

Fifty years after the repeal of Jim Crow, many African-Americans still live in segregated ghettos in the country's metropolitan areas. Richard Rothstein, a research associate at the Economic Policy Institute, has spent years studying the history of residential segregation in America.

"We have a myth today that the ghettos in metropolitan areas around the country are what the Supreme Court calls 'de-facto' — just the accident of the fact that people have not enough income to move into middle class neighborhoods or because real estate agents steered black and white families to different neighborhoods or because there was white flight," Rothstein tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross.

"It was not the unintended effect of benign policies," he says. "It was an explicit, racially purposeful policy that was pursued at all levels of government, and that's the reason we have these ghettos today and we are reaping the fruits of those policies."

Washington Post Editorial Board: Pour More Money Into Infrastructure To Prevent Next Train Tragedy

You might be aware of Liberals blaming a supposed lack of infrastructure spending for the crash of the AMTRAK train in Philly (say, whatever happened to the $800 billion Stimulus, as well as all the smaller stimulus packages during the first few years of Obama’s reign?), as well as attempting to blame Republicans in multiple ways (many easy examples at Twitchy, includinghere, here, and here). We even know the actual cause. The Washington Post knows the actual cause. Heck, even the Washington Post Editorial Board knows the cause, and they still drive to the corner of Disgraceful Road and Bat Guano Insane Lane

Prevent the next train tragedy
The Philadelphia train crash is a reminder of the need to invest more in U.S. infrastructure. (WT note: that subhead is from the WP front page)

IT’S NOT yet clear why Amtrak Northeast Regional Train 188 derailed Tuesday night, killing seven and wounding more than 200. The National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday afternoon that the train was traveling more than 100 mph in a 50 mph zone in North Philadelphia, where the tracks take a sharp turn.

So, everyone knows that the train was going double the speed limit, including the WPEB, but the WPEB is unsure what caused the crash? Would this be considered Amtrak Trutherism? It’s certainly a way for the WPEB to push Talking Points

At first glance, in other words, this would appear to be a story of human failure. But no matter what the investigation yields, there almost certainly will be lessons about the United States’ negligent stewardship of its roads, rails, bridges and tunnels.

Parolee Escapes, Gets Shot by Female Homeowner

This homeowner was smart enough to grab her firearm when she got a call that there was an escaped parolee. The escaped parolee was not lucky that he picked her fence to jump over.

Redding resident Jennifer Doolittle received the call, retrieved her handgun, and stepped outside to get her dogs and bring them in the house. As she did this, Carmelo climbed over her fence and allegedly “advanced on her and again acted as if he was reaching for a handgun.”

So Doolittle fired a number of rounds, striking Carmelo and stopping the advance.

Carmelo is back in police custody. Score one for good guys (or girls) with guns!

Hackers drain bank accounts via Starbucks app

Thieves are stealing money from people's credit cards, bank and PayPal accounts -- by first tapping into their Starbucks mobile app.

Starbucks on Wednesday acknowledged that criminals have been breaking into individual customer rewards accounts.

The Starbucks app lets you pay at checkout with your phone. It can also reload Starbucks gift cards by automatically drawing funds from your bank account, credit card or PayPal.

That's how criminals are siphoning money away from victims. They break into a victim's Starbucks account online, add a new gift card, transfer funds over -- and repeat the process every time the original card reloads.

Police Officers Threaten to Turn Their Backs on Obama at the D.C. Memorial Service

Obama is expected to speak at the National Peace Officers Memorial Service in Washington, D.C. this week, despite his many anti-police statements over the past year. And because of those statements, law enforcement officers are reportedly threatening to turn their backs on him at the service.

Law enforcement officers at Washington, D.C.’s annual Police Week tell The Daily Caller that the anti-police climate is taking its toll on the men and women in uniform and that morale is low in departments across the country.

One source told TheDC Monday night that officers have stepped back from engaging in proactive policing, because they often see the same violent criminals they arrest immediately released on to the streets.

President of the Fraternal Order of Police Chuck Canterbury told TheDC that he believes that a shortage of cops is the reason. “For the last six or eight years, proactive law enforcement has come to a stop because of shortage of personnel.”

Additionally, cops say that the fear of legal and political backlash, similar to what was seen in Ferguson, New York City and Baltimore, is hurting morale. One source at Police Week who also does part-time security work for private companies was astounded at how young some of the violent individuals were during the Baltimore riots.

… A law enforcement source told TheDC that some attendees are threatening to turn their backs on President Barack Obama at the annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service at the Capitol, where Obama is scheduled to deliver remarks. Obama made comments in the past that many in the police community found offensive.

17 arrested in northern Illinois during ICE operation targeting criminals

ROCKFORD, Ill. — As part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) ongoing efforts to focus agency resources on the arrest and removal of criminal aliens, 17 convicted criminal aliens were arrested during an operation carried out this week in northern Illinois.

The three-day operation, which concluded Tuesday, was conducted by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) as part of the agency’s commitment to prioritize the removal of individuals previously convicted of a crime.

All 17 Mexican males are convicted criminals whose convictions include: aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated drunken driving, domestic battery resulting on bodily harm, battery, carrying a concealed weapon, and drug-related crimes. Two of those arrested have outstanding deportation orders against them; two others were previously deported and illegally re-entered the United States, which is a felony.

Chairman Obama: Private Schools Lead To “Less Opportunity For Our Kids”

In a shocking video courtesy of Pat Dollard, President Obama, sounding more like Chairman Obama or Comrade Obama, denounces private schools as a path that leads to “less opportunity for our kids.”
“And what’s happened in our economy is that those who are doing better and better — more skilled, more educated, luckier, having greater advantages — are withdrawing from sort of the commons — kids start going to private schools; kids start working out at private clubs instead of the public parks. An anti-government ideology then disinvests from those common goods and those things that draw us together. And that, in part, contributes to the fact that there’s less opportunity for our kids, all of our kids.”

It’s not altogether unsurprising that Obama would say this; to those who foster big government, it is inconceivable that the private sector can accomplish with better results what government cannot. Government, to Marxists like Obama, is the center of the universe around which we all orbit- the hub of human existence.

What is shocking is that we, as Americans, are currently in a position where an outright Marxist is sitting in the highest office in the land and was even elected to two terms.

Try Not to Flinch When You See What Happens at the End of This 9-Second Shooting Video

A man was flat on his stomach pointing a firearm at a target at an outdoor shooting range in El Paso, Texas, earlier this week.

When he knew the cellphone recording him was rolling, he took the shot.

Success at hitting the target, which exploded with a bang of dust suggesting he was using Tannerite, was short-lived though as a rock decided to hit back.

New Timeline Shows the Transfer of Half Of U.S. Uranium Output To Russia As Hillary Clinton’s Foundation Bags $145 Million

As Hillary Clinton mounts her 2016 presidential bid, she is conspicuously dodging tough questions about her pocketing of cash that appears to have been earned from selling influence. In a new report, Breitbart offers a damning timeline of Hillary’s shady dealings with regards to a $145 million profit from the transfer of Uranium to Russia during her tenure as Secretary of State.

A newly released GAI timeline depicts the sequence of events leading up to then-Sec. of State Hillary Clinton’s approval of the transfer of half of U.S. Uranium output (20% of all U.S. Uranium) to the Russian government in 2010.

Clinton’s State Department was one of eight agencies to review the deal, but Hillary Clinton was the only agency head whose family foundation bagged $145 million in donations, reports the New York Times and Clinton Cash.

Indeed, the head of the Russian government’s uranium company, Ian Telfer, made a secret $2.35 million foreign donation to the Clinton Foundation, as was confirmed by the New York Times.

Bill Clinton also received a $500,000 speaking fee for a speech in Moscow paid for by a Kremlin-connected bank, reports the New Yorker.

“I’ve gotta pay our bills,” explained Bill Clinton.

Please see the graphic below for a timeline of Hillary’s seemingly unethical quid-pro-quo.

The fundraising effort begins again Saturday and runs through Memorial Day.

GREAT News: Teacher Who Forced Grade Schoolers to Send Cards to Cop Killer Was Fired

Here is some good news. The New Jersey teacher who forced her third graders to send get well cards to cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal has finally been fired.

In April news broke that this “teacher,” one Marilyn Zuniga, had her 8-year-old students send the get well cards to the convicted cop killer.

Now Zuniga has been fired for her stunt by the Orange, New Jersey public schools.

Marylin Zuniga, a first-year teacher who drew widespread condemnation for assigning her young charges the task of writing to Mumia Abu-Jamal, was canned at the meeting of the Orange Board of Education, the Star-Ledger of Newark reported.

…The vote to fire Zuniga occurred after several hours of public speakers, many of whom praised Zuniga for teaching her students to have compassion for a man who killed a police officer. Abu-Jamal killed Faulkner during a routine traffic stop of Abu-Jamal’s brother. At trial, several witnesses reported seeing Abu-Jamal kill Faulkner, and two witnesses said Abu-Jamal confessed to the killing, saying, “I shot the motherfu**er, and I hope the motherfu**er dies.”

Although the abrupt vote left meeting attendees unsure of what had happened, Orange Superintendent Ronald Lee confirmed that Zuniga was fired in an email to the Star-Ledger.

This is the right move. Any teacher who would teach 8-year-olds to celebrate a murderer deserves to be fired.

Dear Chris Rock: White Kids Get Shot Too… More, Actually.

Celebrities say lots of stupid things, like Chris Rock claiming that police shootings “never happens to white kids.” Let Steven Crowder illustrate some of the ways that he’s wrong…

From 1999-2011, 2,151 whites died by police-fire compared to 1,130 blacks. If you’re able to count, that’s like 1,000 more white people than black people in a little more than one decade alone.

Chris, you probably don’t know about Gilbert Collar, a white, unarmed 18-year-old man who was killed by a black cop. You probably also haven’t heard of Dillon Taylor, a white, unarmed 20-year-old shot and killed by a black policeman outside a 7-Eleven in Utah. Namely because it didn’t make the news and it didn’t cause completely unjustified riots. (Ones which disproportionately victimized black people and business owners, by the way.) When will you speak out for them?

Of course, fact don’t matter if it advances a liberal agenda. This is just another example.
