Couple Travels 7,900 Miles In 28 Hours To Visit Three Disney Theme Parks On Valentine’s Day

So you think you love Disney, huh? Do you love it enough to fly to three different Disney theme parks in one day just to snap a celebratory anniversary photo? Didn’t think so, but one couple from San Diego managed to pull it off in the name of love on Valentine’s Day.

It’s not that they’re especially mushy about that particular date, but it was the only Saturday that worked out to celebrate their 17th anniversary, which was Jan. 17, reports the New York Daily News. It had to be Saturday, because that’s the day Magic Kingdom in Orlando — their last stop — stays open until midnight.

Every year on that day, they’d returned to Disneyland to mark their anniversary. But this year they wanted to do something different, so they decided to fly to Tokyo, back to Anaheim and on to Orlando on Saturday.

“It’s completely insane, and that’s why we did it,” the husband says.

Act of Kindness: Teen stops car to shovel snow for man with walker

NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. — A Nottoway High School senior who spends snow days clearing snow and ice from neighborhood driveways and sidewalks saw something out of his mother’s car window that compelled him to tell her to stop the car. Teresa Adams and her son Tommy were driving home from the DMV when they drove past an older man who was trying to shovel snow from his driveway. The man was using a walker to get around.

“Tommy said ‘Mamma stop the car,'” Teresa Adams recalled. “I got scared and asked ‘what’s wrong?'”

He said, “there’s an older man with a walker shoveling snow — I’ll help him out,” she added.

Tommy approached the man and asked him for the snow shovel.

Record Year For National Parks

National Parks draw record-breaking crowds in 2014. More than 290 million people visited national parks last year, breaking the previous record set in 1987. The National Park Service says the reopening of the Washington Monument in 2014 boosted visitation numbers. The parks saw a dip in visits in 2013. NPS attributes that to the 16-day government shutdown and several park closures for repairs after Hurricane Sandy.

Fingerhut.com Uses Over-Inflated Retail Prices To Make Rent-To-Own Look Affordable

On its TV ads, Fingerhut.com shows people making peace with their “budget” alter-egos by doing their shopping on the website that allows you to make “low” monthly payments. But what the site doesn’t say is that not only do those payments add up to a lot more than the original price of what you’re buying, but that Fingerhut’s sticker prices are grossly inflated over the actual retail prices.

Just take a look at the three following examples that we picked at random from the many items for sale on Fingerhut.

ISIS May Send Fighters To Europe Disguised As Migrants

ISIS is planning a campaign to dominate Libya before sending fighters to southern Europe disguised as illegal migrants to wage more terror there, according to a published report.

The Daily Telegraph, citing a British anti-terror group that claims to have seen letters written by the group's supporters, said that ISIS hopes to use militiamen from its current strongholds in Syria and Iraq to overrun Libya before embarking on a campaign targeting both Europe's mainland as well as maritime shipping.

The letter is written by an ISIS propagandist using the name Abu Arhim al-Libim. He describes Libya, which has descended into chaos in the wake of the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Qaddafi, as having "immense potential" for the jihadists.

"It has a long coast and looks upon the southern Crusader states, which can be reached with ease by even a rudimentary boat," the man writes. He also points out that the country is replete with weapons, many of them seized from Qaddafi's forces by rebels as the regime collapsed.

In describing the possibilities of attacking Europe, al-Libim discusses the number of ships brining migrants across the Mediterranean Sea illegally, then says "If this was even partially exploited and developed strategically, pandemonium could be wrought in the southern European states and it is even possible that there could be a closure of shipping lines and targeting of Crusader ships and tankers."

Eric Holder calls for pause on death penalty executions

Attorney General Eric Holder called on states to temporarily pause death penalty executions on Tuesday, until the Supreme Court decides a case about the controversial drug cocktails used for lethal injects in some states.

The Supreme Court plans on hearing a case brought up by death row inmates in Oklahoma, who believe the midazolam-based drug cocktail used by the state is a breach of their constitutional protection from 'cruel and unusual punishment'.

The death penalty has long been controversial but became an even bigger issue last year with the botched execution of Oklahoma prisoner Clayton Lockett who writhed in pain and clenched his teeth during the 45 minutes it took for him to die from an injection last year.

Holder, who will be retiring once his replacement is confirmed, has long opposed the death penalty since it presents the 'inevitable' risk of killing an innocent person.

Final 100 candidates selected for one-way trip to Mars

Mars One, a group that plans to send humans on a one-way trip to Mars, has announced its final 100 candidates. They have been selected from 200,000 applicants and will go on to further testing later this year, which they expect to include team-building exercises and later, isolation.

Eventually, 24 will be selected to make up six crews of four, which Mars One says they hope to launch to the Red Planet every two years from 2024, with the aim of starting a colony there.

The Dutch non-profit hopes to use existing technology to carry out the mission. However, the planet has always been a difficult target for exploration, with only around half of all unmanned missions succeeding. The journey itself is expected to take around seven months, and a recent MIT study found that, should the first explorers succeed in landing, using current technology they would likely survive just 68 days.

So what kind of person chooses to go to Mars on a one-way mission? The list of 100 finalists includes scientists and academics as well as those who are just seeking the ultimate adventure. We spoke to two of the British hopefuls.

Scott Walker: Obama's Harvard Degree Proof I Don't Need One

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has lashed out at the "elitist" critics who have attacked him for not having a college degree.

On Fox News' "The Kelly File," the potential Republican presidential candidate defended himself after liberal commentators had attacked him for failing to finish his final year at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

"That's the kind of elitist, government-knows-best, top-down approach we've had for years," Walker told host Megyn Kelly, according to Mediaite.

"I'd rather have a fighter who's proven he can take on the big government interests and win. I think people want to judge what have you done lately."

He also noted that President Barack Obama, who has a degree from prestigious Harvard University in Massachusetts, has done a lousy job running the country for six years.

Although he hopes his own sons finish their education, the college dropout added, "You don’t have to have that to be successful."

This Is What We Love To See

Hi Joe

Glad you referred me to Dicarlo Printing for converting my family scrapbooks to digital. They were the only ones on the shore that were able to transfer the 13 x 13 scrapbooks to digital. This will preserve the Perdue Family History on the Eastern Shore for years to come. The years from approx. 1940 - 1980, articles and pictures, cannot be erased.

Dicarlo's did a great job and was very careful in disassembling and reassembling the books before and after converting them to digital.
Again thanks so much for directing me to Dicarlo's and thanks to Dicarlo's for doing a great job.

Say 'NO!' to the FCC Internet Takeover

On February 4, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler proposed that the federal government reclassify the Internet from an ‘information service’ to a ‘telecommunications service’ in the name of keeping it 'fair' -- a plan that came straight from Barack Obama's desk. Of course, this is nothing more than a pass for Big Government to expand its regulatory power at the expense of digital freedom.

Like all innovation, the Internet wasn’t created by government… and government certainly has no power to control it. Nowhere in the Constitution is there a provision providing the federal government with power to regulate the free-flow of information. In fact, such an idea flies in the face of the First Amendment.

ConstitutionAlly is calling every American to sign our petition and message the FCC, prior to their February 26 vote on Obama's plan. Take Action: Say ‘NO!’ to the OBAMA-FCC Internet takeover.

Add your name below and send your message to the FCC now!

C.I.A. Is Said to Have Bought and Destroyed Iraqi Chemical Weapons

The Central Intelligence Agency, working with American troops during the occupation of Iraq, repeatedly purchased nerve-agent rockets from a secretive Iraqi seller, part of a previously undisclosed effort to ensure that old chemical weapons remaining in Iraq did not fall into the hands of terrorists or militant groups, according to current and former American officials.

The extraordinary arms purchase plan, known as Operation Avarice, began in 2005 and continued into 2006, and the American military deemed it a nonproliferation success. It led to the United States’ acquiring and destroying at least 400 Borak rockets, one of the internationally condemned chemical weapons that Saddam Hussein’s Baathist government manufactured in the 1980s but that were not accounted for by United Nations inspections mandated after the 1991 Persian Gulf war.

The effort was run out of the C.I.A. station in Baghdad in collaboration with the Army’s 203rd Military Intelligence Battalion and teams of chemical-defense and explosive ordnance disposal troops, officials and veterans of the units said. Many rockets were in poor condition and some were empty or held a nonlethal liquid, the officials said. But others contained the nerve agent sarin, which analysis showed to be purer than the intelligence community had expected given the age of the stock.

Revisiting Ronald Reagan's Evil Empire Speech to the National Association of Evangelicals - 1983

On March 8, 1983, President Reagan delivered an address to a meeting of the National Association of Evangelicals in Orlando, Florida. It referred to communism as "the focus of evil in the modern world," and quickly became known as his "Evil Empire Speech." The speech was delivered at a time when Congress was debating a resolution in support of a "nuclear freeze," a doctrine supported by the Soviet Union that would have prevented the deployment of U.S. cruise and Pershing II Missiles in Europe. On March 7, President Reagan had met in the White House with a group of conservative leaders and pro-defense elected officials on the subject of the nuclear freeze. The President advised that his Administration was stalwart in opposition to the nuclear freeze, but meeting participants nonetheless urged him to use his presidential "bully pulpit" more often on the topic. Following the meeting, according to a contemporaneous report by the President's National Security Advisor Judge William Clark, the President added paragraphs to a speech he was scheduled to deliver the next day to the National Association of Evangelicals. Those additional paragraphs turned it from a routine, if worthy, speech to one that electrified dissidents behind the Iron Curtain and appalled Reagan's domestic opposition, including much of the press. The speech was destined to go down in history as one of Reagan's most influential addresses.

CONSTITUTIONAL STANDING: WHEN CAN A PARTY ACTUALLY BRING A LAWSUIT?

Recently a U.S. Federal District Court ruled that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) could turn over publically gathered data on concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO) to three environmental groups. American Farm Bureau and National Pork Producers Council (“Plaintiffs”) had expressed concerns the disclosure would violate privacy rights of their members. The district court found the Plaintiffs had no standing to bring the claim.

American courts have had a long tradition of only hearing cases where the parties can demonstrate imminently to be harmed by a law. This means having legally protectable interest in the dispute; this is also known as “standing.” For example, you and your neighbor are having a property line dispute. You and your neighbor would have standing in any dispute involving the property line, but a property owner a mile away would not have standing in a property line dispute between you and your neighbor.

To find standing, courts often require the parties to meet three requirements:

1. The party has an injury-in-fact – the party has suffered or will imminently suffer an injury to a legally protected interest. The injury cannot be hypothetical or abstract.

2. The causation relationship between the injury and the defendant’s action is being challenged.

3. It must be likely that the injury can be solved by a favorable decision and not merely speculative.

A party demonstrating all three of these elements will have standing to bring a claim in court.
