OCFD HQ Slated For 3,852 Sq. Ft. Expansion
Under a particularly tight budget, the city plans to move forward this year with plans to renovate the Ocean City Fire Department headquarters on 15th Street.
City Council reviewed preliminary designs this week to repair and expand the city’s main firehouse, which has gone through a number of internal reconfigurations in past decades, but without an expansion of the building’s gross square footage.
“You’ll recall that we expanded the bunk room, we added a training room, and all of this was done without increasing the total size of the building,” said City Engineer Terry McGean.

Does John Brennan Know Too Much for Obama to Fire Him?
It's difficult to cross man with details on every secret drone strike you've authorized—especially the legally dubious ones.
When John Brennan assured the country that the CIA hadn't improperly monitored the Senate team that compiled a report on Bush-era torture, he fed us false information. That much is clear from Thursday's news that "the C.I.A. secretly monitored a congressional committee charged with supervising its activities." Either the CIA director was lying or he was unaware of grave missteps at the agency he leads. There are already calls for his resignation or firing from Senator Mark Udall, Trevor Timm, Dan Froomkin, and Andrew Sullivan, plus a New York Times editorial airing his ouster as a possibility.
President Obama could surprise the country by axing his former counterterrorism adviser, explaining that under Brennan's management, employees broke laws and undermined the separation of powers core to our democracy. Obama may well make a good-faith effort to act in the national interest. But it's impossible to believe that he won't be aware of the following: No U.S. official knows more than Brennan about Obama's many drone killings. Some of the killings were solidly grounded in international law. And others may have violated the Fifth Amendment, international law, or the laws of war.
In the past, Brennan has been willing to lie about those drone strikes to hide ugly realities. For example, he stated in the summer of 2011 that there had been zero collateral deaths from covert U.S. drone strikes in the previous year, an absurd claim that has been decisively debunked. What if he grew more forthright, either in public statements or by anonymously leaking information?
Recall how intimately Obama involved himself in many killings:

Harry Reid just made sure the Senate will deal with amending the Constitution first thing when it gets back from recess
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., on Friday scheduled a Sept. 8 procedural vote on a constitutional amendment to limit the amount of money that can be donated to campaigns, a measure that's likely more about curbing donations to conservative candidates than it is about about cleaning up politics.
Meanwhile, the U.S.-Mexico border is being overrun by thousands of unaccompanied illegal minors and lawmakers have yet to come up with a solution to the growing humanitarian crisis.
Think about it: Just before Senate business ended Friday, with roughly 100 lawmakers skipping town to return to their home districts for the five-week August recess, Reid filed cloture on a motion to proceed with S.J. Res. 19, which seeks to undo the Supreme Court's 2010 Citizens United decision that ruled the federal government cannot restrict political contributions from unions and corporations.

Woman Sues After Becoming Unwitting Hostage In Unannounced Active Shooter Drill
"Unfortunately, the training exercise alarmed some at our facility..."
A Colorado woman has filed suit against her former employer and the Carbondale Police Department after she says she was taken hostage during an unannounced active shooter drill.
The training exercise, which occurred last October, allegedly resulted in Michelle Meeker being held at gunpoint by a police officer disguised as a mass shooter.
Meeker says she was confronted by the officer while working at the Heritage Park Care Center, an assisted living facility for senior citizens, and forced towards a vacant room. Convinced the situation was real, Meeker says she refused to enter, prompting the officer to flash a firearm on his waist.
That is when Meeker says she began begging for her life, asking the gunmen to spare her for the sake of her young child. According to reports, the officer eventually identified himself as Michael Zimmerman before admitting that the event was a training drill.

Pennsylvania Man Dies in Fatal Crash Near Bear
Bear, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a late afternoon crash that killed one man and injured two others.
The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. Friday as Juan Manuel Castro-Mendoza, 35 of Newark, DE, was operating a 2001 Lincoln Navigator on the ramp connecting US40 eastbound to SR1 northbound. Robert A. Bloomer, 51 of East Earl, PA, was operating a 2014 Kenworth T800 truck northbound on SR 1 in the right lane of travel. As the Navigator began to approach the merge with SR1 northbound, Castro-Mendoza lost control of the vehicle and traveled westbound from the ramp into the northbound right lane of SR1. The left side of the Lincoln struck the right side of commercial truck causing both vehicles to spin clockwise. The SUV continued to travel northeast and come to a stop on the northbound shoulder of SR1. The Kenworth truck overturned onto the driver's side and continued in a northeast direction before striking the guardrail on the east side of SR1 northbound. It continued to rotate clockwise, while on its right side before coming to a stop in the right lane.
Robert Bloomer, who was not properly restrained, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
A 22-year-old passenger in the truck was partially ejected and transported by EMS to Christiana Medical Center where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
Juan Manuel Castro-Mendoza was properly restrained and was transported to Christiana Medical Center. He was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into this incident is on-going and charges may be forthcoming. SR1 was closed for more than six hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

House Revives, Approves Border Crisis Bill – As Obama Vows To ‘Act Alone’
The House late Friday revived and approved a Republican-authored border crisis bill after GOP leaders hurriedly resolved an internal battle that scuttled the vote a day earlier – but with the Senate on recess and the House soon to follow, there’s little chance of any bill reaching President Obama’s desk until the fall.
The president now is vowing to act unilaterally to address the illegal immigration issue.
The House legislation was approved on a 223-189 vote. The new version of the bill adds additional funding for the National Guard and includes policy changes meant to speed deportations of illegal immigrant children surging across the southern border

Congressman Massie: There Will Be ‘Anger, Frustration and Embarrassment’ When Redacted Pages of 9/11 Report Come Out
Congressman Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) is one of a number of lawmakers urging the government to declassify 28 redacted pages of a report investigating the attacks of September 11, 2001.
Massie said at a press conference earlier this month that when he read the redacted pages of the report, titled “Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001,” he had to stop “every couple pages” to try to rearrange his “understanding of history.”
“It challenges you to rethink everything,” he said.
Massie appeared on The Glenn Beck Program Wednesday to speak more on the subject and — though he couldn’t reveal any details — he said there will be “anger, frustration, and embarrassment when these 28 pages finally come out.”

CNN Anchor Bill Weir to Fox Nation: ‘You Willfully Ignorant F*cksticks’
It’s safe to say CNN anchor Bill Weir is not a fan of climate change deniers.
On Thursday, the Twitter account for Fox Nation, a blog run by Fox News, tweeted a link to a postheadlined, “Climate Doesn’t Cooperate With Al Gore’s Group’s Visit to Denver EPA Hearings.”
The story, aggregated from the Washington Times, relates to a Denver visit by former Vice President Al Gore‘s “Climate Reality Project” for EPA hearings on power plant emissions.
The group showed up to hand out ice cream even though it was 58 degrees.
Weir retweeted the link, with his own comment: “Weather is not climate, you willfully ignorant fucksticks.”

Obama Military Downsizing Leaves U.S. Too Weak To Counter Global Threats, Panel Finds
An independent panel appointed by the Pentagon and Congress said Thursday that President Obama’s strategy for sizing the armed services is too weak for today’s global threats.
The National Defense Panel called on the president to dump a major section of his 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) and write a broader strategy that requires the military to fight on multiple fronts at once.
It also said the shrinking U.S. armed forces, which are being downsized to fit that strategy and budget cuts, is a “serious strategic misstep on the part of the United States.” The forces’ numbers spelled out in Mr. Obama’s QDR are “inadequate given the future strategic and operational environment.”

Court Releases 'Fast And Furious' Info Withheld By Obama
A federal court has ruled that the Obama Department of Justice must turn over to the non-profit watchdog group Judicial Watch an index of materials related to the “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal that were withheld by the White House under executive privilege claims.
Judicial Watch sued because the government didn’t respond to its Freedom of Information Act requests in June and September of 2012.
The ruling by Judge John D. Bates of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia forces the Obama DOJ, for the first time, to provide a Vaughn Index, a detailed listing of all documents that it has withheld from Congress about the scandal along with justification for each withholding.
“Once again, Judicial Watch has beat Congress to the punch in getting key information about another Obama scandal – this time, the Fast and Furious outrage,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton.

NAACP: National Convention In Baltimore Not A Done Deal
The NAACP says the site of its 2016 national convention, reported to be Baltimore, has not yet been selected.
The civil rights groups said in a statement Thursday that its convention planning committee recently heard presentations from Baltimore; Austin, Texas; Cincinnati, and St. Louis. It said the ongoing selection process will include visiting the proposed sites, and recommendations will be made to the board of directors in October.
Tessa Hill-Aston, president of the Baltimore NAACP branch, said in an email on July 23 that the national board had selected Baltimore to host the 2016 convention.
Hill-Aston said Thursday that she could not immediately comment on the national group's statement or why she reported that Baltimore had been selected.

Obama: 'Embrace Economic Patriotism' So We Can 'Rise or Fall Together as a Nation'
On June 26th, Obama gave his weekly telepromptering the White House later titled, “Closing Corporate Tax Loopholes” in which the grand spokesperson for the United States of America, Inc. halfheartedly did his job reading a script on a screen to reassure us all that everything is economically rosy and coming up roses more and more everyday, before he urged the nation to “rally around economic patriotism” and rise and fall together as one nation and one people.
The next day, the White House’s official Twitter sent out the message above with the video.
Wikipedia defines economic patriotism as, “the coordinated and promoted behaviour of consumers or companies (both private and public) that consists of favoring the goods or services produced in their country or in their group of countries.”
Buy American. Well that sounds all good and fine in theory and I’m all for it, but the U.S. manufacturing base has been largely shipped overseas. People with little money to begin with (and working with less all the time) have to look much harder these days to find a product that doesn’t have a “made in China” sticker slapped on it, or a list of several other countries, the majority of which aren’t “USA”.
Bailed out mega corporations have bailed out of America.

Obama Administration Spent Thousands On Strippers, Boxing Tickets In Failed Sting On Border Patrol Agent
The Justice Department had made clear it was unwilling to provide even basic details of the investigation to the defense during pre-trial hearings
The Obama administration abandoned a corruption case against an Arizona border patrol agent after his attorney accused federal agents of entrapping his client, and spending federal dollars on strippers, plane tickets, and tickets to a Manny Pacquiao fight as part of their investigation.
A federal judge dismissed money-laundering and corruption charges against Customs and Border Protection agent Lauro Tobias Tuesday in response to dismissal motions from both the Department of Justice and Tobias’ attorney, which were filed within hours of each other July 25.
Tobias, a 10-year veteran of the CBP who also served in the Air Force for two decades, was arrested in March 2013 after he took a trip from Phoenix to Las Vegas for a drug deal — six kilograms of cocaine were exchanged with unnamed persons for $100,000. Tobias was paid $4,000 for working as security during the deal, based on court documents.

Sheriff: Over 120,000 Illegals Arrested in One Sector
Pinal County, AZ Sheriff Paul Babeu announced that over 120,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested in just the Tucson sector of the southern border. “We have [had] 123,000 illegals arrested right here in the Tucson sector” Babeu said on Wednesday’s “Sean Hannity Show.” He added that eight “cartel scouts” arrested in the last month. “close to 60,000, what’s predicted to be 90,000 by October 1 of unaccompanied juveniles” are expected cross the border in just the Del Rio Sector of Texas. [Note: Babeu is likely referring to number of unaccompanied juveniles apprehended along the entire border and misspoke when he mentioned the Del Rio Sector.]
Babeu also criticized the Obama administration’s lack of interest in securing the border, stating that Hannity has “done more on this issue...than, not just Jeh Johnson, than the president and every member of his cabinet combined.”
